Nisekoi: (Second season of Nisekoi: False Love)
Original score -- 8/10 Updated score -- 8/10
Whereas the first season was all about building up the love triangle between Raku, Chitoge and Kosaki, this season takes a much more light-hearted, comedic approach and focuses mainly on how Raku is able to collect a harem. At the same time, we also see the deepening of his relationship with Chitoge and a glimpse into Raku's and Kosaki's past. For me, though, the highlight is still episode ten in which Raku desperately tries to find a way of helping his best friend, Shu, come to terms with the fact that Shu's love interest is getting married; not only does it show that Raku's kindness isn't limited to just girls, it also highlights the reality facing Seishiro and her interest in Raku. Whereas every other episode in the season is a reaffirmation of the power of love and the happiness it can bring, episode ten confronts the bittersweet sting of learning that your love may go unanswered. It's best to view this season as somewhat of a side-story to the main plot (the locket and keys) otherwise you'll likely feel frustrated at the lack of real story development; this season is all about further exploring the interpersonal relationships of the group and not with telling a singular story.

There is a reason that show sat at the very top of my anime list for a such a long time. The genius segue of a light hearted, and funny rom-com into a look at societal norms, learning to accept who you are, who you were, and who others are. That's not even mentioning the peek at how the loss of a loved one can deeply impact one's life. It's just, dammit I'm going to have to watch again.... Alright, I Beyond the Boundries Dub was painful, they choose some very wrong voices, and though I am pleased they keep with the senpai's, it's hard to enjoy.

With the emotional strength of Angel Beats and the tenacity and strength of Guren Lagan, yet gentle pacing worthy of Spice and Wolf, Love, Chunibyo, $ other Delusions is one of the single best shows I have ever seen.
it explodes your screen with one part FANTASTIC visuals, and another part great drama. Then mixes it together with some of the best animation and scripting.
It's adorable, action filled, funny as hell, adorable, dramatic, fun, interesting, adorable
And it's no wonder it's so good, Kyoto is behind this, aren't they? This K-on style animation and scenes that look like they're 60 frames, it's there signature work.
the flow shows so harmoniously from the slice of life to the over-the-top exploding in every direction action that it deserves a standing novation. It's hard to create transitions like these, but using peoples delusions this show pulls off a miraculous performance.
And the music? Why would you skip the OP or the ED? Not only are they catchy, they're fun to watch too.
I'm now on my way to season 2, and pretty excited for it.

it's painful watching contrived scenes that make great character seem like idiots.
And thankfully Mikan's lack of screen time means lack of that non-sense, but she's likely to take a greater and greater role, she's been concreted as the single most important person in Rito's life, so even if she does go with someone else, she's already won, lol.

So I just watched Overlord from last season and omg they actually managed to get a MMO anime right for once.
The "I'm gonna need to cast all my buffs before we start the battle" scene was what drew me in to the show. https://youtu.be/6dxICJHd518
My favorite part is just how overpowered he is compared to everything There's another scene where the enemy uses an 8th tier god crystal on him, and he simply remarks "Ah yes, so this is what it feels like to take damage!"

The drama itself is so very well done, the show slows down dramatically to give very emotional performances that are as equally well choreographed as any of the exploding fight scenes. This sweet tale of two kids falling in love with all there awkwardness is beautiful. The gorgeous background and animation adds to the tender moments and the gorgeous battles played out in there imaginations. It just flows so well, and the comedy slap-stick behavior and willingness to smack a cute girl in the face is hilarious. This show leaves nothing to the imagination because it's giving it to you, the amazing battles, beautiful romance, great comedy, trolling, character building, everything it does it does on expectation.
And I really like the OP and ED too, good music.

Ore no Kanojo to Osananajimi ga Shuraba Sugiru (My Girlfriend and My Childhood Friend Fight Too Much) OreShura for short: Well, this was an anime. The MC, Kidou Eita, is the top of his class, and has sworn off of love. Of course, everything goes to hell since he used to be chuunibyou, and a certain girl, Natsukawa Masuzu, just happened to find it, and blackmails him into dating her. Following that, he somehow manages to build a harem out of his childhood friend, Harusaki Chiwa, a chuunibyou girl, Akishino Himeko, and of course you can't forget the resident tsundere, Fuyuumi Ai.
Overall it wasn't terrible I guess. As a known hater of harem anime I guess you could call me biased. I literally just watched it for the chunnibyou part. Burning Fighting Fighter lol. Even better is Himeko's name, Burning Pudding Princess. The show does fall into a lot of the pitfalls of harem anime. Unnecessary drama, a dense protagonist, and failure to make some of the girls matter. However, it does avoid some as well. For instance, all of the girls in his harem pretty much admit to it being a harem. Also, he cuts back on his density about 3/4th the way through, and he actually makes a choice! Somehow, it still ends with the harem ending anyway.
The MC himself was not anything special. Standard nice guy who ends up building a harem by being really nice. Except for the chuunibyou parts. That was comedy gold. Masuzu, the Titular Girlfriend: She was an interesting character. Almost like Ami Kawashima. Supposedly extremely beautiful, but with an ugly personality. The real difference is that she decided to make a play for the guy instead of simply stepping back. Chiwa, The Titular Childhood Friend: Loud, small, energetic. The life of the show, and my personal best girl. Himeko, The Crazy One: Burning Pudding Princess. Let that sink in. Burning Pudding Princess. Lawl. Anyway, beyond that as unimportant as could be. Ai, The Tsundere: Ai is possibly the worst tsundere I've ever seen. I don't mean that she's a bad tsundere, I mean she's bad at being tsundere. Her obviousness is so painful. The best part were her outbursts, and celebrations. Also unimportant.
The art was a bit too bright for my tastes. Especially the OP. The music wasn't anyting special.
Who I Would Recommend it To: Anyone who wants a harem, and has run out of harems they actually want to watch. If you want good chuunibyou action just watch Love, Chuunibyou, and Other Delusions. If you've already seen it, watch it again.

Seven Deadly Sins: Bad-ass, is how I would describe this show. As I was contemplating what anime I could do a review on, but wanting something new and I haven't yet watched, I noticed Netflix updated with an original series - and it was anime!
So I jumped at it and took a quick gander at the first episode 1 twice, once in sub, once in dub.
I find I preferred the Dub even though the female lead, Elizabeth, sounds much better in the sub. I just find Dubs do a better job these days in capturing the comedy and action, not needing to avert your eyes from the beauty on screen.
But I didn't think that would originally matter, this show is kinda ugly. The character designs are akin to DBZ's, with eyes to close together or too big for there sized head, or awkward looking faces. But the actual animation, the movement, and most especially, the battles, were epic and gorgeous.
The fight scenes are a higher impact version of Fate Stay's, with super movement speed packed with huge explosions. It's beautiful, absolutely stunning sometimes. And these characters don't die! They take hit, after hit, after hit, and keep on going! The pacing of the plot sometimes takes you out of the experience, with 24 episodes the show still needed to rush the meeting of the characters, explain each one of the 5 of 7 sins background, in detail, then tie it all together with the devoloping plot around them.
Plus, there was the princess, 4 different bad-ass holy knights struggling with right and wrong, and even a fairy, 2 actually, 3 technically.
There's Giants doing battle with people on equal footing, and people can slash a mountain in half with just a twig. It's insane how powerful and amazing the battles can be.
But back to the plot: It was good for the twists, but the ending ruined a lot of it. A to be continued ending that also tried to tie up the ark with a happy one, reviving dead characters and creating a mood that shouldn't exist considering what the country just lost and was about to lose more of.
There's other elements in the plot to enjoy, however. Besides the great action, the drama surrounding and tying it in was well played, basing itself on a desperate princess trying to save her land from it's own military, and turns to knights known as The Seven Deadly Sins, who are considered traitors to the country, for help.
The MC, the leader of the Sins, is pretty laid back fellow, completely confident in his strength, so nothing will go wrong. His buddies in the Sin are just like that, oozing confidence. And it's apparent quickly, why.
Music is so-so
If you enjoyed Guren Lagan, you're going to love this. Highly recommended to action fans. There's a bit of romance in there, and lots of drama and even moments that may threaten a tear, but the show is really all about the super action.

ItGÇÖs amazing how a show can touch you, we grew up to shows like Barney and Reading Railroad, telling us to be good, telling us knowledge is the key to happiness, telling us to be good to one another.
But anime shows us. It brings us there, shows us the pain and joy. The messages we grew up too never changed, the message just grew more beautiful.
And as we get older our shows start becoming funnier, flashier, more drama and character driven.
And when you take those older shows concepts of funnier, flashier, and more story elements, and add in our original cartoons, you get anime.
ItGÇÖs a weird way to look at it, but thatGÇÖs how I see it. It has everything we, as adults, love in our shows. Mature and sexual humor, dark plots, character growth. Anime focuses on all the elements we typicaly are drawn into. But keeps the morality theme of being good to your friends, staying health, be a good student, etc.
However, itGÇÖs done so through sometimes rather odd looking characters. Throwing some off the shows purpose and confusing itGÇÖs value.
This is where most people draw the line of difference between Anime and more mature content, like whatGÇÖs typically found on HBO.
and thatGÇÖs a fair assessment. Look at some of these characters, they were not made for a larger audience in mind, typically male targeted. But a good amount of anime arenGÇÖt like this, and even some of the ones that do are well worth the watch anyways for all genders.
and though we continue to see the same cliched elements in todayGÇÖs shows, the actual quality and story telling year by year continues to rise, creating in some of the best story telling IGÇÖve ever come to enjoy. |

I wish HBO would get back into animation (well, anime.) I remember when the Spawn cartoon was shown--such a badass show that didn't shy away from the violence and nudity.
*sigh* Haven't found any interesting shows to watch for now, so I just re-watched Is it Wrong to Pick up Girls... and am about halfway through Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero; it's absolutely amazing how you can have two genuinely "good" MCs be so totally different. Bell exemplifies childhood innocence and hard work while Akki exemplifies the opposite: jaded and cocky. Yet they both have that kindhearted inner core that compels them to help others.
Come to think of it...how awesome would it be if Akki started showing up in other anime shows, given his ability to visit other worlds?
