Not-so-patiently waiting for this season's shows to conclude so that I can binge watch them. Can't stand the thought of juggling 4/5 shows each week and trying to keep track of what was happening.
Did watch the first episode of Seven Deadly Sins yesterday. OMG...the show is absolutely f*cking terrible. Everything--the horrible animation style, lame attempts at humor, etc.--is simply awful.
I need to find something to watch and fast...I'm doing all of my exercises while watching anime and I've managed to drop about four inches from my waist since May...

Seriously...if I'm just going to be sitting on my @ss while I watch anime for hours on end I figured I might as well do something useful. Top of the hour means it's time for a smoke, followed by a set on the rowing machine (125 today, adding 5 to each set per day from here on out) while I watch. Repeat each hour on the hour.

Magical Warfare: In this modern magic action story, Takeshi Nanase is an ordinary high school boy who has a somewhat dark past. Due to certain circumstances, he formed a "fake" couple with his childhood friend Kurumi Isoshima, but otherwise, he lives a normal life. However, one day, he comes across a girl named Mui Aiba, in a uniform he has never seen before, collapsed on the school campus. This encounters changes Takeshi's destiny completely. Mui tells Takeshi that she is a magician, and she apologizes, for she turned Takeshi into a magician, too. What Takeshi once knew as one world is actually twoGÇöthe world where magicians live and the world where humans live. - MAL source
This show has some of the most awkward pacing I have ever seen. Creating this roller-coaster effect in enjoyment. The show never settles on what it wants to be, a high school magical romance drama or the beginnings of an encroaching magical war between guilds.
but with 12 episodes there isn't enough time to flesh out an entire war scenario and make us give two ***** about any of the characters or settings. And that's what happens here, no one but the MC gets any flesh, at all.
The war gets the same attention, being a consistent theme of conversation but never really being a part of the show till the end. What the show focus's on instead is the real MC of the show, Kurumi Isoshima
She's the too beautiful to be true so gets harassed by boys girl. So she's dating our MC, who, for whatever reason, knew each other as kids. So they pretend to date to keep guys off of her, but there's a catch, if one falls in love they end it. Only, she fell in love with him, so she's full of complicated tsundere emotions. Especially after the man she loves meets a loli with boobs, Mui Aiba
This encounter sets off the setting of basically half the damn show, as Kurumi trys to get in control of her emotions.
Our MC, on the other hand, isn't only the clueless type, but he's the poster child to every MC ever made, never once taking a step out of a comfort box to be a unique character. His friends are all pretty much the same, and the cast is designed as if based on characters from other shows.
The only character that stands out is the Loli Grandmaster. Who gets the best scenes in the show, by far.
As the show progresses through Kurumi's bs, the magical war sometimes makes an apperance, because the show is supposed to be about finding Mui brother and finding out what happened. And the resolution to this is so incredibly awkward, poorly explained, and just, generally makes no sense. Why would you to a hostage exchange with people who don't believe they're hostages and will obviously try to go back????
The poor level of detail, reasonings, and even just getting us to believe in this world. They either had no budget or had no idea what they were working with.
Music's pretty good, Dub was pretty good too, honestly. I could never get passed the Sub, but hearing the cussing in the Dub actually put a smile on my face.
The one redeeming factor of the show is the ending, which is also a sore spot because of the epic cliff-hanger. But the show finally reveals a twist worthy of Black Bullet.
I'd recommend this to Otaku's only, generally people willing to watch any anime with cute girls in it, because it fails at really accomplishing being an action, drama, or romance. But the characters themselves can be enjoyable. |

I'm actually re-watching it right now. Love this show (and it doesn't hurt that it's sexy as hell.) I actually enjoy the story and have high hopes for the second season; hopefully they don't try and bring in too many characters and go for the grand harem trope and instead focus on developing the characters they already have. Maria is hands-down the best character.
And it looks as though the Wiki page explains who the nurse actually is, so I'm assuming that this gets addressed in season 2. Hope you watched the OVA, because she steals the show.

Black Bullet had a way better ending imo. And both shows felt very similar, how they tried to be dark, but just end up moe. lol
Testament story has too many convenient quirks in the good guys favors, just so they can keep the school-life living together scenario.
That demon could of just put a ice shard while they pee'd in the school at any time, and Maria was supposedly working for the bad guys, but how does that make sense? How did the red head get away in the first place then? Wasn't it the demon who attacked her Maria was working for? Why did she run instead of handing her over and protecting her mother? And then we found out those two parents actually ran an orphanage - where the **** did those kids go, lol.
and the hero tribe is FRUSTRATINGLY stupid.
which makes kinda sense, look at the blue hair girl, she's as stupid as they come. She just mimics and wants what the other girls have already done, her only real identity trait is stealing everyone else's, and she's ******* useless in a fight.
Maria is apparently OP as ****, but has been hiding this fact until now because apparently she always worked for the bad guys.
And the show confuses what the neutral faction in the demons is or who they are. The last boss guy was apparently a member, so can you really trust the rest? What if they only fell in line because of the immense power of the previous king?
They blur the lines, never really throwing us a bone on what's going on around them, because they're too busy getting naked or talking random crap. |

RWBY - This is the show we've been waiting for. The spark that will lead to a flame of western developers creating anime.
The lack of inner dialogues and monologues with the obvious western style comedy *Eastern comedy is way more influenced by us then the other way around* mixed in with moe character designs. I can not declare enough love for this.
Anime, lately, has turned to crude humor, explicit language, and sex jokes for the majority of it's comedy. Even shows not considered comedies typically only use these forms of comedy. From the accidentally falling down on girl routine to slap-stick over the top joy-rides, anime tends to go all in or all out with comedy.
But RWBY finds a middle ground that western writers are so well known for. You'll recognize the styes of comedy instantly from Game of Thrones, Community, and pretty much anything on Showtime or HBO. It's fast paced, eye to eye comedy. Meaning while they talk very fast, they engage directly with each other, creating some really great skits that both entertain and progress the story or characters growth.
And where there's so much good going on in the plot, the setting even gets it's own episode dedication to help flesh out the world, and it ends up being very well thought out and interesting. Even the monsters get a dedicated episode to explain them, if this show had a Like button I'd be smashing it.
and even with all the greatness in the plot and setting, still better yet is the animation. I could caps lock a lot of descriptive words, and it would be well deserving. But I think you all know what I mean, episode 1 food fight was just orgasmic, and they do that kind of fight scene once every 2-3 episodes.
People jumping higher then buildings then casting magic using "dust" *Great concept for the show to use* combining some of the best Kung-Fu with high movement explosives everywhere action.
And that's still not even my favorite part of the show, i love these characters. Weiss is my favorite by miles, a poster child Tsundere, and she's western made, it's just exciting to see. The rest of the cast too, just charm the socks off you, then blow them off with there intense stunts and willingness to show very real sides to make them so much more then 1 sided characters.
Even the sub characters get amazing plots, my favorite character is the red head amazon girl, she's not only charming and easily the strongest, but has the purest heart of them all.
I could go on and on about all the different elements I enjoyed, but I'll stop, and say, damn, should of watched this earlier. |

True, but it's necessary for the harem aspect of the show. It also allows for the "strengthening of the bonds" to happen with regularity (and in privacy.)
Shadowed Cola wrote:That demon could of just put a ice shard while they pee'd in the school at any time, and Maria was supposedly working for the bad guys, but how does that make sense? How did the red head get away in the first place then? Wasn't it the demon who attacked her Maria was working for? Why did she run instead of handing her over and protecting her mother? My understanding was that the villain kidnapped Maria's mother after she saved Mio. Either way, Zolgear is now directly threatening her mother's life, hence Maria's decision to betray Mio. That said, her intervention prevents Zolgear from having his way with Mio, which would have killed her due to the curse.
Shadowed Cola wrote:And then we found out those two parents actually ran an orphanage - where the **** did those kids go, lol. Considering that Mio doesn't recognize Lars despite their being classmates, I think it's safe to assume that the parents were no longer running an orphanage when they were entrusted with caring for Mio.
Shadowed Cola wrote:which makes kinda sense, look at the blue hair girl, she's as stupid as they come. She just mimics and wants what the other girls have already done, her only real identity trait is stealing everyone else's, and she's ******* useless in a fight. She's had feelings for Basara longer than anyone. She isn't trying to "steal" him--she's trying to get close to him again after having been separated. She also realizes that the master-servant pact enables Basara to grow stronger in power, which is why she demands to follow through with the same routine as Mio. She isn't mimicking so much as trying to do what she can to help the others out. I'd also argue that she's anything but useless in a fight, seeing as to how she's up against vastly stronger enemies most of the time (Takashi and his special spear, Zolgear and Lars.)
Shadowed Cola wrote:Maria is apparently OP as ****, but has been hiding this fact until now because apparently she always worked for the bad guys.

They blur the lines, never really throwing us a bone on what's going on around them, because they're too busy getting naked or talking random crap. Maria's ability was supposedly limited in its usage, as I recall, and was also supposed to be her trump card against Zolgear.
The show also mentions that it was Wilbert's power that kept the radical demons (I don't believe Zolgear was mentioned as a moderate) in line; once he died, the moderates were removed from power in favor of the current Demon Lord and people such as Zolgear, who wants power for himself.

Fair points, Everything.
But the Blue Hair girl, there's no defending her character. It's because of her background with the hero that she makes no sense. Even if she was feeling left behind even though she feels a strong bond, you don't replicate what others are already doing.
And it's not just something she does once, or even twice. But time and time again, she sees another girl do something, and now she wants too. She lacks any real independent thought, and her only rebellious actions shouldn't of needed time to occur - the entire reason she became strong was to help him. Here's her opportunity, and she didn't know what to do. Because she's borderline the worst childhood friend I have ever seen.
Poorly designed, fleshed, and her motivations don't actually motivate her. Originally they do when she confronted Mio at the start - then goes downhill quick the more she's explained.

Again, I'll disagree. Where she shows initiative: -hugging Basara in front of the class after he introduces himself -taking him to the coffee shop -coming to Mio's aid after she runs away -asking Basara out on a date -using the sleeping powder on Basara -going against the Hero clan and trying to protect Mio and Maria -wanting to form a contract with Basara -demanding that her contract by the same type as Mio -staying behind to help their escape from the monster
I think what you're focusing on are almost exclusively her inter-personal relationships. It's clear that the show intends for her to be something of a "blank slate" character (think most any AI girl in an anime) that doesn't know how to express her feelings; however, I'd argue that she's much closer to Maria in terms of personality--she clearly has the hots for Basara (even mentioning that their hugs in the past were little more than an excuse to have Basara fondle her rear) and seems to take enjoyment out of teasing Mio with that fact. So whereas you dismiss her actions as mimicry, I see them as devious attempts at "one-upmanship" to woo Basara over to her. Look no further than when she finds out about Mio's contract--Mio is obviously embarrassed by the situation while Yuki gets excited and looks forward to such an interaction...and doesn't hesitate to let Mio know how eager she is to be doing that sort of thing with Basara.
Honestly, I think the problem stems from the fact that Yuki just isn't given a clear personality of her own. The show treats her as little more than the rival lover when it comes to dealing with the other members of the harem (though Maria is more than happy to encourage her.) In the end, the biggest problem may be the simple fact that Maria already owns the "sexy troublemaker" role and Yuki is left with the scraps.

-The hug was the symbol of there childhood friend status, it added nothing to her character, besides showing us she's either absent minded about those around her, or is very straight forward. Turns out she's both, lol -The coffee shop didn't do anything for her character, either. She interrupt Mio to get her time with him, then uses the time to give us her background. Which would of been fine, if there had been anything else really there. She just shows concern for the MC. Which is the entire basis of her ENTIRE personality.. Even her background is centered around his saving her. - The sleeping powder scene did nothing to add to her character, but actually confused the living **** out of me, lol. Did she honestly think she could beat the other guy herself? Even though he's wielding some bad-ass weapon? It was a pointless moment that did more harm to the show then good imo. - Her entire background was centered around her love and desire to be closer to the man who saved her, she always believed her village wrong, but she didn't have the strength to act on her own and stayed with the village. This is, quite literally, her background. It's her motivation, it's the core to how she became who she is, and it was a hard choice for her to make to help him, which she didn't really do, just gave Mio a heart attack for nothing. - This is an example of her wanting to be like Mio. It's the only reason she even wants it - her safety is kinda pointless as crap, and having her around was suppose to add to there fighting strength, not give the MC something else to worry about... - Look at above statement. - Did this really add to her character, or just finally show us what quality the show kept saying she had as a hero clan member?
That's my problem with her, and the entire hero clan. The demon side actually make somewhat sense, especially different factions and it not all really working out but they try anyways. The hero clan makes NO SENSE, and it dumb for the same reasons Aldnoah Zero's world is dumb, to give the MC motivation to do something himself cause no one else will use there head and help the good guy.
The blue hair girl and everything she represents is everything that's wrong with the show, lol. |

Hunter X Hunter S3: This may in fact be the best season yet. This one is more about the Phantom Troupe than it is about the main characters, and they are absolutely awesome. The main downfall of this season is that it's fairly predictable. You know what's supposed to happen from the beginning of the season, and that's pretty much exactly what happens.
