SUBspace overvraper wrote: Everything dies rated a rushed and incomplete anime 9/10... Maybe the manga deserved 9/10 but definitely not the anime. The anime has a lot of skipped out scenes, like more character development, comedy.. Sure within the 12 episodes there were definitely character development but i still felt like it was missing something, like it needed more fleshing out. If they had made it 25 episodes I would have no problem and with that ending it would be perfect. 25 episodes gives you double the time of 13 which would mean that there would be space for *rainbows appear* everything. This would be perfect for those who wanted more romance and screen time of the 7 witches.
What can I say? I found the romance in Yamada and the Seven Witches to be much more believable...because that's pretty much how it worked out for me when I fell in love. There wasn't a bunch of "Why do I feel this way? Why am I getting jealous? etc." that you commonly see in shows such as Toradora (which, for the record, I loved); my ex-wife was dating my (then)bestfriend and as a result we were constantly around each other. It was a sensation of being comfortable, of being most at ease when I was around her--similar to how Yamada and Shiraiki are constantly seeking out each other without consciously thinking about it. You naturally gravitate towards those people that make you happy. I agree that the show would have benefitted by allowing for more time for the actual mystery of the Seven Witches...but yet, that whole part of the show was secondary to me. The main focus (for me) was the unspoken love that developed between the main characters.
Contrast this with Toradora, which is much more of an anime in it's styling--the constant introspection to explain a character's thoughts, the constant obstacles being thrown up, etc.--as good as the show is, the love between the two comes across as being forced, in a way. It falls into the old adage of "show, don't tell." Yamada is a good example of showing two people falling in love while Toradora basically tells us that the two people are falling in love.
To each their own, I suppose.

Shukufuku no Campanella (The Blessing of La Campanella)
4/10
Working for an adventurer guild named "Oasis," Leicester spends his days crafting and repairing items that are technologically far superior to what is normally seen in his medieval world. With his guild mates in tow, Leicester takes in the annual meteor shower from atop the roof of a chapel; unfortunately for them, a stray meteor aims right for them and crashes into a section of the chapel that is normally locked up. Leicester investigates the impact site and discovers a young girl...who awakens and immediately calls him, "Papa." She is an automaton--a living doll that is powered by Ale, the magical source of power that flows throughout the world. Her arrival brings together an eclectic group of companions as an impending danger threatens the world around them...
As a whole, this show was pretty unspectacular. Leicester is quite forgettable as an MC and doesn't display any outward signs of interest in the harem that surrounds him. In fact, the whole "romance" part of the harem trope is essentially missing in its entirety. Almost any attempt at developing romance is done entirely for comedic purposes that become (tired)running gags. Nothing of note really happens in the show until the final handful of episodes...with the obligatory "happy-happy" ending the inevitable result. Characters are generally uninteresting, though the Tortilla sisters are quite amusing (along with Golem.)
Animation is bright and colorful and the music is unobtrusive. Frequent comedic uses of ecchi and a fair amount of nudity; the characters are fairly attractive but unspectacular in any way (aside from Leicester's mom.)
Verdict: Pass. Only watch if you're like me and are running out of ecchi/harem shows to watch.
For the Record: Hmm...I guess team Chelsea? Yeah, it's a pretty uninteresting harem...

i will be writing up quite a review soon for Hayate the Combat Butler - it's over 100 episodes of goodness, and i decided to do so in the Dub.
And, for the first 75 episodes, I actually really, really, really liked the Dub. Nagi, Hayate, Mariah, Hina, everyones voice is spot on, and in Hina and Maria's case - better then the japanese VA.
But as i get half way through season 3 there is something i can no longer take in the Dub - and that's the switch in voice actors. A new company takes over the dubbing to Season 3 - and, for the most part, it's fine. Maria got worse, everyone else pretty much feels the same, that's a good thing.
Until Hina comes.
Wtf.
It's bad enough they pronounce her last name completely wrong, "He-na-g-ku, compared to, Hyna-g-kun. i don't know why the spelling changed all of a sudden, but it burns my ears. Especially since she's probably THE most impressive character in the show, ranking up as one of my all time favorite character, a true weapons grade waifu.
But there interruption of her in the Dub in S3 is just ******* horrendous. Hina is a tsundere, she's suppose to have a lil spunk mixed in with maturity. Noble, confident, she sounds much like Holo from Spice and Wolf, and the two characters are a lot like, but Hina is more on the serious side, who dere moments are like over-loads of cute.
The first two seasons have her perfectly, in fact, I can't imagine her with any other voice now. And comparing it to this unconfident, homely, sounds like she's never spoken up too loudly because a man might slap her for it, season 3 interruption is sad.
I just wanted to rant about it. The show would of continued to be an awesome watch if they hadn't ****** up such an important character.

third poll made no sense to me at all This limits the amount of animes by sorting them by year. So 2000-2015 would mean I would have to add all animes that aired from 2000 to 2015. Which would also mean me listing over 9000 waifu options... Even when they are separated by year, (2-5 or 10-15 votes per year) it would take a **** long time for me to find then list all the girls.

Nyan Koi!
7/10
Comedy/Romance/Harem
Junpei is a high school student from a family that loves cats. In fact, most of Junpei's life has revolved around cats--be it his childhood friendship with Kanako or his secret crush--Mizuno's--love for them...but as luck would have it, Junpei is allergic to them. Junpei's luck is so bad that, while trying to kick a can into a garbage bin, he accidentally knocks the head off of a cat statue in a shrine. This unfortunate accident results in a curse being placed on Junpei: he can now communicate with cats directly and must grant the wishes of 100 cats or else he'll turn into a cat himself...which would be fatal due to his allergies!
I enjoyed this show much more than I was expecting. The comedy flows freely and hits more often than it misses. The romance aspect is decent but predictable while the harem tropes only come into play for comedic purposes and not romantic ones. Junpei is great as the down-on-his-luck MC that grudgingly makes the best of his situation, and his reactions to happenings around him are the primary source of humor. Mizuno is your basic "innocent object of affection" character that serves as the main love interest. As a result, her character doesn't really develop over the course of the show so it's hard to see her as anything but generic. Kanako plays the role of old friend/love rival and shows the most growth of any of the harem candidates, though even the show points out the obvious while mentioning "flags" to denote changes in her behavior. Four other girls fill out the harem but are never seriously presented as potential love interests.
Animation is colorful but unexceptional. Music is entirely forgettable. Female characters are average in their cuteness, though Kanako has an oddly masculine appearance to her face at times...perhaps done to contrast with her feminine figure. A few moments of ecchi (typical bath house/hot springs fair) with no actual nudity.
Verdict: Worth a watch if you're looking for a silly comedy. Not recommended for romance/harem fans as the show was obviously intended to run for at least another season.
For the Record: Team Kanako.

I've watched K-On!, the show by which all "cute girls doing cute things" are judged. I've seen Azumanga Daioh, the grandpappy of the genre. I've immersed myself in Usagi Drop, which stars an adorable little girl. I've viewed Engaged to the Unidentified, and almost had my heart explode from Mashiro-Tan's almost illegal cuteness.
However... Nothing, I mean nothing, prepared me for Non Non Biyori. I rate this as officially the cutest show of all time. I'm not just talking about the weaponized cuteness of Renge. I mean all of it is absolutely precious. This is a show that can instantly make any day a good day. Many shows make me happy by the time I'm done watching them. Non Non Biyori is the only show however, that actually relaxed me as well.
I probably won't watch Repeat until it's finished though. This is definitely the kind of show I can easily marathon.

Of course I can add pre-2000 waifu. There will be an "other" option which you can put your waifu in but I'd like to add them all before that poll. How many votes per year is pretty self-explanatory. This how the waifu poll works at the moment. I will add all girls from 2000-2015, separate them into different polls (sorting them by year) then each poll (basically each year) will have 1-15 votes and you can pick 1-15 girls within that year. So if its 2005-2015 then it will go like:
Spans 2005-2015 (this is the base years in which i will add the girls, waifus before 2005 can be accepted) Poll 2005: (url)
Poll 2006: (url)
and so on..
Poll 2015 (url)
Each poll (representing a year) will have 1-15 votes. Then at the end of each poll, you can see the results. So there will be a best dust waifu per year from 2005-2015. Then from the results of each year, there will be one last poll including the winners of each year polling against each other into one final BEST waifu.

So I'm currently watching Hellsing Ultimate, its been great so far. As if one pistol wasnt enough, they got him another pistol so that he could dual wield over-sized, overpowered pistols. 39 cms long, 16 kilograms heavy, 6 bullets each magazine, fires 13 mm armor piercing rounds. The rounds are jacketed with a "casing" of blessed Macedonian silver and tipped with a hollow point, which contains an explosive charge of pre-blessed mercury. I don't think this is a pistol.. more like a hand cannon (bolt pistol anyone?).

DearS
1/10
Ecchi/Harem/Sci-fi
Aliens have crash-landed on Earth. Known as DearS, the 150 aliens aboard the ship have been adopted into Japanese society and have begun the process of further integrating themselves into the world. Takeya is a high school student that despises aliens--thanks to the sci-fi movies he saw when he was a kid--but his world is thrown for a loop when he rescues a DearS from a speeding truck. She kisses Takeya and later calls him, "Master." Takeya is slowly drawn into an unpleasant reality as he finds himself having to care for an alien he despises and an out-of-this-world danger...
There is crap...and then there is DearS. Just awful. What could have been an interesting story (who the DearS are, and what their purpose is) is completely destroyed by one thing: Takeya is a horrible MC. He's portrayed as the put-upon protagonist that finds himself stumbling from one uncomfortable situation to the next...or at least, that's how he should be portrayed--in reality, he comes across as a petulant, ignorant A-hole whose treatment of the female characters is borderline abusive. He has zero redeeming qualities and completely manages to make himself look worse with every major decision he makes. The fact that I left out "Romance" from the genres should tell you all you need to know about how he handles personal relationships. You wait (and wait) for Takeya to offer some sort of redemption for himself...and in the end, you just want to see him get his @ss kicked. About the only interesting character in the show is the sex-crazed teacher.
Animation is dated, but that doesn't excuse the downright ugliness of the characters. People apparently have freakishly large foreheads in this universe. Seriously, folks...there isn't a single attractive female character in the show. Music is pretty bad, too--just try and listen to the opening theme and you'll understand. Lots of ecchi thrown about (particularly with the teacher) but no actual nudity.
Verdict: Don't. Just...don't. Unless you really, really want to get a better appreciation for shows that are actually good.
For the Record: Umm...the teacher, I guess?

Gate 9 - The show has continued a steady beat of impressive development. I haven't commented much on the last episode, if at all, but between these two recent episodes the girls from the new world have visited ours, and it's been pretty delightful.
The gothic loli continues to take the spot light and makes sure the show is settled into a mature rating with both her antics and instinctual natures. While the loli-human-mage brings it back down to a slower, more realistic pace. Elf girl gets little to no real screen time, and when she does, it's always about worrying about something. Otherwise she's just been a cute doll that's charming from time to time.
The red-headed-princess and her yellow-haired-tsundere-noblewoman have turned into typical girls franicking *my word, means panic and freaking* at everything they see. They also seem to be perverts. lol It's actually not bad to watch and see them as, since they're suppose to be the 'high borns' of there world and haven't been introduced the way the others have to our way of things. Hopefully they get a grip soon and finally develop a lil.
The main character is just ... stuff? Lots of stuff. Butt loads of 'em, he keeps being one thing, then another, then something more impressive, then something more impressive then that, then it turns out he knows and can ask for something even more impressive. He's an enigma, I don't know what to think of him. I like him i guess? Lol, he's cool and chill, but his character is overly generic, you can out-guess him in every scenario, it's his comrades that make him less dull, and luckily they always keep a few around.
overly the show just continues to delight me :3 9/10 |

Unlimited Fafnir
6/10
Action/Sci-fi/Harem
Powerful monsters--known as Dragons--have begun to roam the world, spreading destruction in their wake. A small collection of girls share similar powers to that of the Dragons and are known as Ds. The Ds are brought together at a remote school to train their powers and abilities to aid in the fight against the Dragons...but there's a cost for doing so--each girl bares a mark that correlates to a Dragon, and said Dragon will relentlessly pursue her with the ultimate goal of turning her into a Dragon. It is in this world that Yuu is suddenly cast; a former soldier, he's the only known male to possess the ability of a Dragon. Now Yuu must not only deal with the ever-present threat that the Dragons pose...but he must also learn how to survive the potentially deadlier issue of living in a school surrounded by girls!
This was a bit of a strange show. Let me start with the good: the story is action-centric with a few bits of humor and romance thrown in. There is always a sense of danger hanging over the goings-on of Yuu's school life, and much of the show centers on the actual fighting with Dragons. Fight scenes are good, though the "having each character call out the name of their attack" bit gets repetitive. Yuu, as an MC, is pretty solid. He has just enough badass-ness to make for a strong protagonist without being overpowered. The fact that his power comes with a significant trade-off (the loss of his memories) keeps him in check and allows the female characters a chance to show their own strength. Though the focus on action prevents a sense of development in the female characters, the background storyline of Yuu's sister and the trauma she (and the other girls) went through prior to Yuu's appearance does a good job of running throughout the course of the show.
As far as the bad goes: a bunch of stuff is left unexplained. Namely, why is Yuu referred to as a "Fafnir" by his former commanding officer? He's obviously meant to be a special person, but the show never explains why that is (aside from him being the only male to possess D power.) Though the show has harem aspects (at least three characters openly possess romantic desires towards Yuu, though one is the stereotypical loli character) there isn't much sense of romance actually taking place. Instead, we have Yuu being a general "good guy" that listens to the girls and tries to help them whenever possible and in return, they all start to blush and act shy around him--fairly standard stuff, really. Given that this is a recent show, it'll be interesting to see if a second season is made that expands upon the characters (in particular, the revelation about Yuu and his sister that comes at the end of the show.)
Animation is really good with vivid colors and smooth movements. Girls are cute, though all of them look to be a tad too young to be considered attractive. Music has some good moments with some crunching guitars riffing while the battles play out. A fair amount of ecchi is thrown into the show with no actual nudity.
Verdict: Enjoyable, but forgettable. Think of it as a popcorn flick.
For the Record: Seriously, what is up with Yuu's former commander and all of the "My Fafnir," talk?!

a full review of Hayate is on back burner, the show completely falls a part after season 2, which means 100 episodes of goodness, and 24 episodes of weird.
but even the weird was good, just not as good or for any of the similar reasons that made the first ones so entertaining.
It'll likely take a few posts to cover even 1/4 of the show, there's a lot to say...
But, for now - Moving on to Idol Master, which has me enthralled thus far. |

This is a must watch so far this season. It has turned into a mystery, fantasy, action, thriller show. That man aint goku. Seems he can't beat a single brave honestly in a 1v1.
But the way he adapts and the way the show pans out, albeit slow, is still a wonderful watch.
Clue finally got that anime adaptation we were all clammoring about
That's about how I feel about the show so far.

There's a show a lot like it

I believe i scored this show higher for better animation, characters, design, and progression. Story they're about equal. |

If it ends up being 2 seasons of 24+ episodes i can see it being one of the best fantasy/adventures we've had in ages. |

Are you referring to Clue, the movie? One of my all-time favorites? And the movie that single-handedly (no pun intended) guided me towards puberty (Colleen Camp is the greatest French maid of all time)?!

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai (The World God Only Knows) Season 1
5/10
Comedy/Romance
Keima is a high school student that is obsessed with video games; he's established a reputation as being the single greatest dating sim player in the world. There is no virtual girl he can't seduce...which is why he accepts a mysterious challenge to put his wooing abilities to the ultimate test. Unfortunately for Keima, this challenge has decidedly real-world ramifications--if he doesn't help the Demon Hunter Elsie retrieve runaway souls by charming the girls that they've possessed, both he and Elsie will die!
I can see...the boredom. Honestly, not much really happens in this first season. Yes, Keima woos a handful of girls...but what else? The storyline is basically stuck in neutral with zero character development for Keima or Elsie, and the only characters that are actually developed (the possessed girls) disappear as soon as their stories end. The show can be funny at times, but outside of that there's very little to keep the viewer interested in what's going to happen in the future. Given the praise that other posters have directed towards this show, I expected better. Getting ready to start season two, so hopefully things will pick up.
Animation is pretty much average. None of the female characters are particularly noteworthy, though Keima's mother has a great body. Music is actually the highpoint of the show, particularly during the Shiori episodes. Some ecchi thrown in but no nudity.
Verdict: I'll reserve judgement until I complete the series, but so far it's a pass.
For the Record: I guess the mom's hot...

*Rory notices someone peeping* Everyone else: Whats wrong? Rory : I felt someone watching us Everyone else: *surprised* Shino Kurebayashi (aka the brown headed girl in MC's squad): Is it the captain ? *Callsign Archer (special forces at peeping) looks at rory through binoculars*
*Archer and rory cross eyes* *Archer gets sp00ked* 2scary4me
Base: Archer, whats wrong? Your heart rate skyrocketed Archer: I just locked eyes with Subject Black. It felt like she was going to kill me. Base: Impossible, you're separated by more than 450 meters. Archer: No, she detected me for sure. My intuition is telling me... She's dangerous. Extremely dangerous. Me: Well no ****
This is what happens when you try to peep on girls. Remember guys, not even the strongest military can save you from the wrath of a waifu if you get catch peeping.
