Quickgloves, the CEO of SVER TRUE BLOOD, welcomed his son into the world recently. However there have been severe complications resulting in 13 blood transfusions at this point.
This was mentioned in a thread in the War Room with a link to his Facebook page. I went to Quickgloves Facebook page and read some of the updates on his son. As a father of two I wanted to try and help out. I reached out to him and found one of his friends from STB on Facebook. They've set up a fundraiser to help with medical bills and lodging for Quickgloves and his family (his son is in a Children's Hospital 30 hours from their home).
I'm going to donate some money to help out and I wanted to post a link to the fundraiser because I'm sure others will want to help as well.

I was going to buy another merc pack this afternoon but this is a much, much better idea.
On behalf of Hellstorm, I wish QG and his family the best. The Dust community is pulling for you!
E: I've posted this on the Hellstorm.org forums to make sure it reaches as many people as possible. Directors and CEOs should send corp or alliance mail to reach all those players who don't frequent the forums. Let's show the Dust community more than OP & QQ. |

I messaged back and forth with QG on Facebook and he is dealing with more than most of us can ever imagine.
If 100 of us donate $5 that could put them up in a hotel for a week. I really hope some more people can help him out. |

On behalf of Quick, Mandy, Weston, and the STB family, I'd like to take a moment and thank everyone here who has gone out of their way to show support for Weston. He is a little fighter and we are praying every day for him to pull out of this and get healthy.
Times are really tough right now and the aid from you guys is a game changer. People from all over the world, friends and enemies, and even people we would never have spoken to before are coming together to rally support.
Quick, Mandy, and Weston...
You are not alone, look at all the people showing their support! Keep up the good fight young blood!! |

As a father of one (with another on the way), I have been in this situation before. My son was born at 25 weeks and 2 days, roughly 4 months early. He weighed 1 lb 6 oz and was 12 inches long. He was helpless and as a father, I felt the same. It takes a toll on you emotionally, as your child's life, a life you feel obligated to protect at all costs, is not in your hands. I know exactly what he is experiencing all too well. I visited my son every morning, every lunch break and every night, sometimes sleeping there. I just wanted him to know I was there. He fought everyday and I was going to do the same. He is doing well, extremely intelligent and will be turning 6 in February. He is perfectly healthy and only has a small scar on his back from when he had heart surgery. Miracles do happen.
People, give whatever you can. Dollars and cents add up and you get to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Someone needs our help and our support and video games is a fanatstic avenue because you meet so many people doing so. Sacrifice buying that little bit of arum this week and give instead to a father who is probably scared and trying to make sense of it all while his child is feeling ill. It is the best thing that we as a collective community can do. |

Your name here represents 2 things in this game that are separate and should continue to be separate, one is the merc you go with or against in game and the other represents the fellow human being playing the game.
We must always remember that we are a community of fellow gamers alike, differences are null when we are referring to the person playing the game.

Here is the latest update from QG's FB page:
Update 14: Today Weston has had three major things done. First was the Transfer from one form of ventilator to another. He is currently unable to breath on his own due to the amounts of morphine that he is receiving.
Secondly they transferred a line from his stomach to his arm to in order to give him more nutrients. They attempted to give him a pick line which will go directly to his heart, but they were unsuccessful.
Third thing is currently going on as I write this. They are giving my son a spinal Tap. I am very nervous about this. Terrified is a better word. In hope the doctors want to test for meningitis. They want it to come back negative so they don't have to treat as long with antibiotics. The longer they treat for infection the less nutrition Wes is getting. THe sooner they can stop treatment for infection the faster they can give him what he needs.
His kidneys are still not showing improvement but he is still able to control dangerous levels in his blood without much support. He is swollen with edema still because he isn't urinating properly.
I have to now show my thanks to all of you. I have seen 2 charity collections for my family. As it stands Mandy an I are out of work to be with are son. He could be here for months an I would not care. The fact that you have all come to support us with prayers an thoughts was good enough for me. Now you have all reached into your hearts an sent physical support. The money that you have collected is going to support are stay in Philadelphia so we can be here for are son. I tearfully thank you all.
I am working with agencies to postpone collections on many bills due to the current state of things an all your help is so appreciated.
SVER you guys are showing the world why we say we are family. Video gamers around the world are chastised day in an day out for being outcast or socially awkward. You who may have never met me or been an enemy in a online world have shown tremendous support to us. The flowers the money the gifts. We are the Brotherhood. I love you guys. An to all the dusties reaching out TY.
To my family an friends You have seen us in are lowest hour an worked to keep us hopeful. Everyday that passes is a day We cherish. Every moment i have to look at my son is a moment i would never trade. Weston does not know how fortunate he is to have such a family in real life or in the online gaming world. Thousands of you have messaged me with prayers an wishes, support an love. I never imagined this much support. I hope that Weston's story touches lives of people that see this years from now. Every birthday Wes has I will re-read all of this. As each day goes my hope grows.
As each moment passes my breathing grows steady. My family is in a very rough spot, but with all of you helping us an sending us rays of hope an prayers full of love this journey is by no means easy but you are all making it a lot smoother.
With a most sincere appreciation My family Thanks you so much! |

Update 15 : So quick update. The doctors were unsuccessful in attempting the spinal tap. due to all the swelling they could not confidently take the sample they needed. They intend to try again tomorrow: as well as send him to radiology department to use there equipment to guide the pick line. They plan on doing that Monday.
They sent another specialist today to check his thyroid. Something about a count in his blood that pointed at something with his thyroid I was confused in the explanation but didn't push the issue because the doctor said that Wes did not show any major signs they just wanted to check on it.
Sorry I could not recount more I am trying to be in the room as much as possible now because they are weeing him off the morphine. My hope is that he will try to open his eyes so he can see Mandy an I at his side.

He was born premature, which leads to a LOT of crazy medical complications - in his case it seems he has some infections and has lost some blood somehow.
My neice, Rachel, was born 3 months premature. She had a huge hole in her heart and was bed ridden until she was about 2 or 3 years old. Basically, premature babies and suffer from any number of complications.
Addiitonally, if I remember right, Mandy had some difficulty with the pregnancy, which also impacts the baby's health now.
I don't know all of the details, only that things are going pretty rough right now. But if my neice got better, I'm sure Weston will as well!
EDIT: I don't have any first hand knowledge, only what I've read in the updates on the fundraiser page. |

Guys, after coming back to this thread after sleeping I am so proud that it is still going strong and more people are giving their support for Weston and his parents. It hurts so much to see such a good friend in pain and I simply cannot put into words how awesome your support for them is. I certainly do not have the capacity right now to send a lot of money but if I could persuade just one more person to show their support for a family in need...
I hope I will never have to experience what Quick and Mandy are going through and I certainly don't know how Quick has managed to stay so strong for his family...
Please Dust Community, if you can find it in your hearts to help them out.....Quick is a good man and it breaks my heart that bad things happen to good people. Weston is still fighting strong but Quick and Mandy have to be by his side and they need your help so they can be there for their son.
God Bless and fight on Weston |

Could not have said it better myself. lets do QG, Weston and his Family a favor and bump his ignorant and insensitive comment deep into the depths of an insignificant page surrounded by a multitude of pages filled with gamers with compassion and love for another human being.
To me money is a fascinating concept, a man made system of valuing often arbitrary objects that people Fight, F***, Lie, Cry, Declare War and Die to. But it becomes so much more when, this thing that we dedicate our lives to accumulate, can be easily parted with in hopes to be able to help, by any minuscule amount, a fellow human being in a time or hardship.
To Kingseeker Kobra, whoever you are, just know that it is people like YOU that cause other people to cast a negative light on communities of competitive gamers and video games alike. Please keep your opinions to yourself and do as all a favor by not tarnishing the name and face of this beautiful community we have in Dust514. |

Furthermore, all that money is probably going straight into his pockets, it probably cost QG 2,000 dollars to even walk through the front door of the hospital

You refer to Quick's newborn boy as an it, you act like a child's life is some small thing that you can just end because everything wasn't perfect, and you accuse Quick of pocketing the donation money after he and Mandy have both quit their jobs to be with their newborn son.

And I bet if I checked I can find some more.
To young and gullible? I am capable of making very hard decisions and have done so I my lifetime, (such as putting down my dog after he got cancer and the vet said that he had absolutely no chance of survival.
I believe that you are incapable of handling the responsibility and that you have a lack of understanding of the importance of human life, heck just about any life.
I hope that you never become a parent and in the sad tragic case of that nightmare becoming a reality, I hope that your child doesn't have any disabilities, as based on what you are saying here, you will most likely give up on the poor child. |

Sorry you're all too young to set aside your feelings and look at this objectively, but that's not my problem. I will explain to you why you are wrong right here: When you are talking about a precious human life, you never compromise. Look, even if this infant has no chance of making it out alive, that doesn't mean you stop giving the family a reason to hope for a miracle! I mean, that's something that makes humans so unique, we never give up on each other.

WOW! I wake up and check the dust forums to see were already creeping up on 2000! People are still donating and pledging to help out if and when they can. That's pretty incredible.
In nice to see that even though we all hate each other in space army when disaster strikes one us there are people willing to step up and try to help however they can. QG won't ever forget what we did here.

wow, just wow.
I will address this one time and one time only...
Everything, EVERY SINGLE THING that is happening to Quick's son happened to my son. When we heard that he was coming way too early (4 months early), after a few hours, the doctors asked us (and kept asking for a while) what we wanted to do. He gave us two options: deliver him and try everything to save his life OR deliver him and watch him take his last breaths while we say goodbye. They explained that IF we chose life and IF he lived past his hospital stay, that he would most likely have a lot of complications in life. I will admit, after hearing that, we both thought for a second that maybe we should just let him pass so he wouldn't suffer. It took her sister to come in and say"you will fight for him while he fights for himself and you will give that baby a chance at life".
Best decision we have ever or will ever make in our lives.
There were nights when he had it rough. There were nights that he had a new neighbor because the one the day before passed away. There was a specific night where we were asked to leave early because the baby next to him was about to pass away and his parents were there saying tjeir goodbyes. I remember that baby's dad sitting there, in a dark room, with his hands in his face crying. I thought to myself "that could be me at any day now".
But my son made it. It doesn't always happen, but he was the exception and I couldn't be happier. He has absolutely no dibilitating injuries. None. Not even allergies. He walks fine and he speaks fine. As a matter of fact, he started kindergarten one year early because of how smart he is. He has no physical deformities at all. He is perfect.
You say that he should just let his child die and I may be assuming wrongly, but I ASSUME either you have never been in that situation OR you have and are still angry about it. Whatever the reason, life is something to value and to fight for. I was in the military. I took that oath to protect life. I am a paramedic in real life and my fiance is an RN with her Bachelor's degree. We both what we do because we value life, now more than ever because it affected us directly.
I could go on a " you are trash, go die" rant, but instead, I pity you.
Why, you ask?
Because you most likely have never had anything worth fighting for in your life. It is inevitable, though. You will and I hope you do the right thing. I wouldn't wish this kind of stress or pain on anyone.
Miracles do happen and nothing that you can say, sir, will make me think otherwise. Have a great day.

wow, just wow. You are an f'ing scumbag. This is someone's child, not a pet hamster. what's the difference? Who are you to put more importance towards one life versus another? THIS CHILD IS BEING PUMPED FULL OF MORPHINE AND IS SO SWOLLEN THEY CAN'T EVEN FIND HIS SPINE
YOU ARE PERPETUATING HIS SUFFERING BY DONATING MONEY
EVERY LAST ONE OF YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED
So, by your logic any child born with a disability should be euthanized immediately.
Anyone who gets disabled during their lifetime should just be put down.
Anyone who gains terminal cancer should not try to extend their life or hope for a cure. Just jump off a bridge.
And who appointed you the ruler of all things? You are just some worthless sack of sh!t who tries to place your misguided values on other people. Quick and his family made a decision to try to save their child in hopes of a meaningful life. They asked for our support and we chose to give it to them. If you dont agree with it then dont donate but leave your hate and shi!tty soul out of this thread.
You are no better than the stains of humanity that threaten others because they dont believe the same thing. But hey, I heard the Westboro Baptist Church is recruiting. Im sure you would fit right in. |

Yes, absolutely. Think of the money society would save not having to pay their medical bills, conform to their standards (i.e. laws mandating ramps, demanding everywhere is "handicap accessible", etc.), reduce a good chunk of the world's population and thus saving on food, water, electricity, etc. etc. etc.
the world would be a better place and you cannot possibly deny this.
you can't tell me from an objective standpoint the euthanization of disabled children isn't a great idea.
It's just like "humanitarian aid" for starving kids in africa
now instead of 20 starving kids in africa, there's 20,000 starving kids in africa...all in the name of help. 20,000 more souls that are suffering every single day because people think they're "helping" them
why can't people accept the fact that a lot of these cases are better off dead? that's the humane thing to do. |

Actually, the immediate euthanization of a disabled child is not a good idea because of the fact that with the help of modern medicine, most disabled children stand a pretty good chance against death.
Who are we to deny someone the right to live, or at least an attempt to do such?

Update 16 : 10/5 7:18 pm
Weston was doing well for about 36 hours. He had been switched successfully from an oscillator to a ventilator. His morphine drip was reduced an he began to move again. His counts were also holding steady. This morning his labs were not the best. He had to have yet another transfusion. His 14th to be exact. They began to change his anti-biotic. They want to try an give him more nutrition, but are unable to because his kidneys are still not working properly an the amount of anti-biotic is keeping the doctors hands bound because of his fluid limit.
Now I am no man of false hope I fully understand Weston is sick. However I feel that I must share with you the few moments of joy that I share with Mandy an Weston in the days that we spend together.
Today Weston was moving an trying to open his eyes. He was fighting his battle an I could see it as I stared down at him. Every move he made you could see his tenacity. He actually managed to breath over the ventilator a few times today. Every beep that machine made was like a surge of energy for Mandy and I. A sign of hope way off in the distance.
Mandy an I were blessed with the support of are cousins today. They stood by us these last 2 days giving us support through love an comedy. You guys kept us focused on the good things. An we thank you for being here.
A women came to Mandy an I at the hospital the other day. She offered words of encouragement. she handed Mandy and I a Guardian angel medal an a prayer. Mandy an I have been praying to Weston's guardian angel now every day and we will continue every day for as long as we both live. Wes, you are a beacon of light an hope for all of us.
The war is far from won, But today even with the transfusion, and changes made to antibiotics, it was a good day. Wes every day you fight to be with us is a good day an I will never take that for granted. Thank you for being in my life. |

Medical technology these days is amazing and because of that im pretty hopeful things will even out eventually. But make no mistake, theres still a rough road ahead.
At any rate, best of luck to QG. I really do hope everything turns out good, and I believe that theres a good chance it will! |

The Spartans did? I thought? Not that I endorse the act, but it is a pretty simple and effective way to keeping mutations out of a population. I mean, think about it, how are mutations going to be passed on if everyone who gets one is put down? From a genetics stand point it makes sense to do that because the more the technique is practiced the less it will have to be practiced over time.
Imagine a world where nobody was at risk of things like Huntington's disease, or Taysachs disease, or Alzheimer's. All of these are genetic mix ups that could have been avoided if the person who passed down those genes wasn't able to in the first place.
But nope. We live in a "morale based society" these days. So that sort of practice wont ever be likely to pass or at least not for a very long time. Meh.... honestly I would look more for a cure to these deformities rather then a quick fix like that. Cures would make the whole practice unnecessary. lol, anyway back to the main point of the post....... I wish QG good luck with his son. I've read through a couple of the Kobra's comments and quotes and I think there are a few things to be said. I've looked through this thread a few times (but not nearly all of it) and if I say something that someone else has addressed, forgive me.
The first thing I noticed was this from the website linked by the OP... "We are just trying to raise some money so they can be closer to their son"
Kobra, what is wrong with this? I get that you're sucking the utility argument **** all over this thread but riddle me this: regardless of the outcome of this child's complications/treatment, why would the parents being closer to their child be a bad thing? I think I saw before that you discouraged people sending money partially on the grounds of it not being able to take significant financial strain off of the parents but it would help them be closer to their child. The contributions made by these generous people would have an enormous impact on the parents no matter what happens so why isn't this considered in your analysis of the overall utility of the situation?
Full disclosure, I support euthanasia in the following cases for different reasons... 1. A person wishing their life to end and deciding that they would prefer to die rather than live. 2. A person leaving behind instructions on what to do if unable to make medical decisions on their own (say, while in a coma). 3. A person unable to give consent but has no chance of survival and will endure pain until death.
Each of these cases is complicated with its own reasons for or against, but ultimately I have been in favor of euthanasia after careful thought.
****I should probably make it completely clear that I DO NOT feel that this situation falls into any of the three cases.
The thing about you, Kobra, is you give me the impression of someone who has not yet thought of all of the consequences to the arguments that you're using here either purposely for shock value or because you just didn't think enough before coming to your conclusion on the matter.
For example, you use the utility argument that boils down to "society would have more money if they didn't keep the disabled alive". Let me just remind you that this would mean that researchers, doctors, or anyone who has made a career out of helping the disabled or sick would probably lose their job. Society would have no use to try and improve on current medical treatments for these people and medical science would basically slow to a halt. I know this is sort of a slippery slope argument but not really. My main point is that you're not thinking about what your black and white implications mean past the initial "I'm the Dr. House that everyone is afraid to be but not me, I'm bold" factor.
I will just skip the emotional utility counterargument as I'm sure everyone else on this thread has demonstrated it well enough.
Basically I just see you as a bully. People might be ganging up on you because it offends them but it doesn't offend me at all. Say whatever you want but don't hide behind the utility principle like a shield because it's a weak shield at best. I'm calling you out on it.
Please just remember that you don't have ethics on your side and that there's at least someone who sees through it as just a way for you to rebel against modern social norms. If you wish to continue a debate on the moral issues involved with euthanasia I'd be happy to start another thread but considering you've made your opinion known here the only thing you stand to gain from continuing to discourage people form donating money is the satisfaction that you're potentially keeping grieving parents away from their sick child.
Looking forward to hearing back from you, or better yet, not at all.
I don't believe in any god but I do hope that things work out for the affected parents. I can't imagine how hard this must be for them.

There's a reason we don't look back on ancient civilizations and think "why don't we still do that?". It's a simple and effective way to keep anything you want out of the population. Jews for example. Mutations need to be eradicated. Not people with mutations. I'd rather die from any disease than think my kids would be killed for being born blind or having an extra finger.
The eugenics debate is based completely on morality. Competing moral principles for or against. It seems that society (well at least western) has made up its mind about it. |

Hey everyone, If we want this to have a sticky, then we need to make our voices heard.
Everyone report the OP and in the text ask CCP to give this thread a sticky. That way our voices will be heard!

I can't believe that certain people have negative comments about this thread, I haven't seen them but there have obviously been a few. To the sad people who posted them, I hope that if someone in your family ever gets sick you will remember the day you were so insensitive and stupid to say something bad about another person's misfortune. There is a special place in hell reserved for people like you!
My thoughts and prayers are with baby Weston and his family. The birth of a child is meant to be the happiest day of one's life, unfortunately for this family that feeling has been postponed for now. The feeling will instead be reserved for the day Weston is given the all clear and can begin his life in earnest, free from all pain and ill effects of his ordeal. May God watch over Weston, ease his pain and help him on his road to recovery and may God also grant his family the strength they need to get through this time of adversity.

I cannot aid financial support at the moment, however, I noticed there were some negative comments regarding the ill and disabled, as well as euthanasia. It is important to remember that everything in this world requires resources. The ill may consume "more" until they are healthy, or always consume more depending on their illness, but everyone consumes some.
The computers you type on requires all sorts of metals and plastics. Your smartphones probably contain rare earth minerals that we can not replenish. If you are speaking on this forum and play Dust, you are a drain on the resources of this planet. Surgery's and medical services allow people to continue on living and enjoying their lives when they would've suffered and died. I think that's a better use of our resources than playing Dust, buying a new smartphone every year, watching TV, listening to music, and more, all of which are not essential to our lives. Does anyone you know own jewellery? Well, someone had to dig a mine and find the metal ore and jewels to make that, someone had to cut the jewels, smelt the ore, make the ring, transport it, and then sell it, all so someone could affix a ROCK to their finger that shines. In the case of diamonds, not even a colorful rock. Now, that is a wonderful use of materials such as gold, silver, steel and diamonds. Plus, the fuels used to dig the stuff out of the ground, transport the stuff and convert it into the product. Obviously. /sarcasm
Life saving medical attention is not the problem. If anyone wants to scream about the time, energy and materials medical care consumes, you should get rid of all your technology and go live in a forest eating nuts, because all your fancy entertainment devices consume MORE, so you certainly are not living in a manner that sustainably and efficiently uses resources to reduce human suffering.
Also, if you think euthanasia without consent when a person can be saved with a reasonable success rate is reducing human suffering, you must also think jumping off a cliff reduces human suffering. Life is often a painful struggle. If we all just jumped off a cliff as soon as we experienced suffering instead of working as hard as possible to diminish it, where would we be? Extinct. That's where we'd be.

+1 I ike you Toby Flenderson, i'm glad you were a random blue that jumped into my squad o7 ... and said hello ;)

As a merc I am not SVER fan boy, nor do I hate them. They are brother mercs on the battlefield whether they are blue or red dots, it is the battle that really matters.
As a father in RL I can only begin to imagine the battle that little Weston and his parents are in. I am very proud on the community's response so far, I have met some good people playing Dust & EVE, this just goes to prove it.
Both Jason & Mandy have had to give up work to be with Weston as much as possible at this most difficult of times, the hospital is 30 miles away from where they live. SO if you can give something, no matter how small (pennies all ad up) it will go to Weston's parents to help them support him in his difficult entry into this world and will be appreciated more than you probably think. I have given what I would normally spend on my passive and active boosters for the month.
My thoughts and prayers go out to little Weston, Jason & Mandy

On as side note, in the lifespan of this game I have encountered much hatred, much ignorance, intolerance, and even prejudice people, but when one of us falls, or has a major issue such as this one for everyone to come together and drop differences in order to help it is very rewarding to witness. Now I know its only a game but some people here go to the far ends of the world in order to make it more than a game with the hate mail and the in game wars and the verbal abuse we inflict on each other lol. Just glad to see that in a serious situation we are able to remember it is just a video game and that we are willing to help. +1 for the Dust player community. |

Everyone please keep QG and his family in your prayers, and know that every penny donated will help lighten the burden of the cost of medicine once baby Weston gets to come home!!
Could not have said it any better let's keep this thread about little Weston!! Please donate what you can!! |

Update 17: Weston opened one eye today! He looked over at Mandy an I.
I was lost for words. Mandy cried an spoke to him softly. She about crushed my hand from squeezing it. I was over-whelmed with pride. Wes an I shared only a brief gaze together. It was worth it. Every moment spent by his bed every time i startled myself awake to check on him from the metal chair i sit in next to his bed. Just to get that moment between us. A moment where he knew I was here for him. I sent a picture to my brothers an mother one of them can post it my phone is not smart enough!
Yesterday the doctors for a second time failed a procedure known as a spinal tap. It consist of them inserting a needle into the spine an drawing a fluid they can test for a infection. They intend to send my son to a radiology department to use equipment to guide the pick line hopefully tomorrow. All in all he is doing good today. Urine output is about the same so he is still able to keep the dangerous levels in his blood low. They are again changing his nutrients to increase the amount they can give him an optimize the nutrients. It was nice today for Mandy an I to spend some alone time with him an actually have him move an react to are voices. He is strong very strong. His ability to give us so much joy is amazing.

Update 18 : 1-0/8 4:23 p.m.
So today Mandy and I spoke to a swarm of different specialist. Ne o-ontology, Hematology, Ne-phrenology an a few others. Each had many different things they wanted to discuss.
We woke to a call from the hospital about Wes. He was once again bleeding, this time in his lungs. They gave him another transfusion of plasma. Taking his total number of blood product transfusions to 15.
Then they used suction to remove the secretion and blood from his lungs. They x-rayed to search for bleeding an noticed his breathing tube had migrated south. So they re-adjusted. After hours of deliberation as to the cause of the bleeding they decided that it is possible that the tube irritated the trachea causing bleeding or that the tube was rubbing the wall of his lung causing bleeding. Just to be certain they sent the Hematology team to check him.
The Ne-phrenology team was much less supportive. They gave us detailed information on the damages Wes sustained. As of now they are confident in assuming little baby Wes only has about 10 percent of normal kidney function. A very low number. His Keratin levels, which are an indication of kidney function for his age an weight should be about (.02). They are currently staying steady at a whooping (6.4) that is a huge difference an not in the good way. Now the reality is that Wes has a chance of a full recovery. It may take weeks, months or even longer: But there is a chance of recovery.
The fact that Weston is producing urine is a good thing. He is still keeping dangerous levels under control. So the kidney doctors are very optimistic that he is trying to recover. So keep him in your prayers he stills need them! Every day is a battle an Weston is undefeated so far. |

Update 20 : its 12:25 a.m October 10th 2013. Since September 25th I have lived in a bubble. A bubble that I never want anyone to ever have to experience.
I have met so many great people an have such a supportive family an collective of friends. Still I find myself sitting here in the wee hours of the morning trying to keep my composure. I have always claimed to be a strong independent person. Even moved away from everything just to prove I could do it on my own. I did what I told everyone I was going to do. I proved to myself that I had the strength, the intelligence an the courage to take on the world by myself an conquer the challenges that would be set before me. I planned, an trained myself for these tasks. Even after I met Mandy I adapted to care for her, to protect her, to love her. An as pattern is proven I again adapt and endure to care, love, an protect my son.
I never imagined that I would have to endure the current events even in my wildest nightmares. I never planned on being so helpless. I never thought I would be so taxed an deprived that I would rely on everyone around me to keep me strong. I have always made attempts to be the lone soldier. The calm amongst the storm. Especially for Mandy. yesterday was a long day. Weston had to have yet again 2 more transfusions, his numbers did not improve an once the sun comes up I am to meet with a collective of doctors to talk about my sons options.
I am tired. I am sad. I am terrified. I am doing everything I can to save face in front of Mandy. I fear her to fragile to see me in a weakened state. I did not even know how hurt I truly am until today. Many times I have choked back tears to shine strong for Weston an Mandy. So many times I walk outside into the cold air just to try an numb the feelings I have or to confuse the senses into feeling the cold instead of the sadness.
Weston you are so pure an innocent. so defenseless to this world. So wonderful yet so sick. I am praying that as I sit here an pour my heart out, as I show how sad I am, as I beg for God's compassion to save you: to heal you: to give me strength That he hears me.
So many of you offer encouragement an hope. I have not lost it. I am just so desperate to show my humanity without the fear of worrying my wife that I choose to do it here. Mandy as we all know barely ever goes online or uses anything electronic. So I don't intend for her to read this. She knows I love her so much an I am going to be there for her an our Son. I am just vexed. I hate this feeling that I have. This pit in my stomach the pain in my chest the fear I see in my eyes when I stare at myself in the mirror.
This nightmare that I am living is real. An as a man I must endure. I ask for God's forgiveness in my moment of weakness. I ask for the love of my wife an son to forgive me for any in-abilities I have shown. I am trying. I am trying so very hard to be there for you. To stand against the tide as it belches out these tragedies on are family.
I will wear my armor proud as I stand before you. Weston an Mandy I will be your man of steel. I will love you forever an always. I am so sorry for the challenges we must endure, but we must endure.
Angel of God my guardian dear To whom his love commits me here Ever this day or night Be at my side To light and guard To rule an guide Amen |

I am sure i am not the only one that has been watching this very eagerly for updates. This is the latest update thus far to the gofundme page for them. You will want to read the whole thing there is some good news in this post :) Update 21 : 9:37 p.m. 10/10 At...Update 21 : 9:37 p.m. 10/10
At dawn this morning I reached out into hope. An with my pleas for compassion a bright sun rose for my family.
Mandy and I met with a team of doctor's today. I prepared to hear news that I knew would shatter me at my core. Much to my surprise an pleasure, that was not to be the case this day.
Weston is suffering from internal hemorrhaging. Bleeding in his lungs an abdomen along with acute renal failure (kidney failure). This is the culprit forcing the doctors to have given him 17 transfusions. They believe that because of his damaged kidneys the bleeding has continued. The kidney is interrupting with the functions of Weston's platelets. He is having problems clotting.
Now the good news is this. Doctors believe that Weston has shown progress. Positive progress. They are comfortable giving him support when needed(transfusions) and letting him fight to recovery.
The kidney doctors believe that the degeneration of his kidneys has stopped. They think that if he can manage to continue to produce urine an recover, that over time the bleeding will stop. Over time he will regain some kidney function. In hope, they even suggested that he may regain all kidney function.
The only negative thing said today was that the doctors are concerned that Weston may have sustained brain damage during the ordeal. Lack of blood an oxygen to the body may have caused some damage. They are not saying it as a definite yet though. They are concerned because of the lack of movement from Weston these last few days. They are hoping that it is because of the morphine an are in high hopes that as the morphine wears off Weston will begin to show more signs of awareness.
They also hope to ween him off of the ventilator this week.
So in reality. If Weston can avoid sickness, keep his blood levels stable with support from doctors that he will grow, that he will LIVE. Weston is fighting, we all know that. He is fighting an gaining strength from all of you. Your prayers are keeping my family so strong. Please continue praying.

However what would also be very generous and would posibally help ccp even more would be advertizing and donating a part of aurum purchases or merc pack purchases towards the fundraiser. For example advertize that 25% of all aurum purchases between date x and date y will go towards this fundraiser. It would hopefully generate increased revenue for ccp and of course part of it would benefit the family. I hope they post pictures when the munchkin is allowed to go home. The video on the gofundme site at least for me was very blocky. |

They should do it anonymously so that everyone doesn't start asking CCP for donations. Although, it doesn't matter if they did ask because CCP doesn't have to give back to anyone. However, QG has been a long time supporter of CCP and this game and this would be an exception.
I am not starting a CCP to donate campaign....just making a friendly suggestion :). |

From that update it sounds like good news for the munchkin. But i am betting even if things continue to go well it will be another week in the hospital. I just hope that they continue to get good news and that the munchkin is able to start putting on the pounds and get bigger and bigger. Hopefully the parents have been able to get at least one night of sleep here and there. I have my doubts on that though. |

Update 22 10/14 10:47 A.M
So last few days have kinda been a whirl. Weston has some numbers that are encroaching on concerning, but is still producing urine like he needs to be. His catheter was removed and they hope to remove the ventilator by the end of the week.
The doctors have begun feeding Weston so he is getting some extra nutrition now as well. They had to give him a stool softener to help him along. He is a bit more swollen , but it is because they upped his fluids in hopes to kick start his kidneys.
No major changes negative or positive. Weston is listed as Critically Stable. Meaning he is extremely ill in renal failure but able to be supported by the doctors an machines. This is a good step from being listed as simply Critical like he was when he was hemorrhaging.
Weston wants to be here but he is in need of your prayers still. His road is long an difficult. Your love, positive energy an prayers will help guide him an keep my family safe.
Angel of God my guardian dear To whom his love commits me here Ever this day or night Be at my side To light and guard To rule an guide Amen |

Not the best of news with the latest updates. Lets hope this turns around for the little guy and the family. I think they primarily update this site: http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/help-with-baby-weston-s-medical-expenses/92940
here is some background info for what i think they were talking about. I guess the good side to this is that it has been discovered very early. The re-test will confirm of course but i am betting the dr's are already making plans as though it is a true positive result.
from webmd.com: Galactosemia is a rare, hereditary disorder of carbohydrate metabolism that affects the body's ability to convert galactose (a sugar contained in milk, including human mother's milk) to glucose (a different type of sugar). Galactose is converted to glucose by a series of three enzyme reactions. The disorder is caused by a deficiency of an enzyme known as "galactose-1-phosphate uridyl transferase" which is vital to this process.
Galactosemia may also be referred to as classic galactosemia because a few variants of the gene for galactosemia have been identified. One variant causes a milder form of the disorder known as Duarte galactosemia. Classic galactosemia is the most severe form.
Because milk is the staple of an infant's diet, early diagnosis and treatment of this disorder is absolutely essential to avoid serious lifelong disability.

Update: Weston received multiple rescues, mechanical and chemical, yesterday. He continues today to need sedation because he keeps dropping his heart rate to dangerous levels (below70). He has another transfusion pending his 22nd. Biopsy if his colon today at 12. He was making progress with his kidneys until today. His urine dropped to 1.3 from over 5.5. As well as his cretin level has also gone back up from a 5.4 to a 5.6--. it is supposed to be (.02). So definitely not good. Specialist will be by later to speak with us again. We asked for the Chaplin to come by an bless him again. Weston decided during the blessing it would be a good time to drop his heart yet again.

November 2 Update : At another crossroad in Weston's life. They did extensive testing to figure out why Weston was becoming so sick with no results. Then without warning Weston began to get better. No bleeding, his counts were coming back to normal, creatnine level was going down. doctors were happy an optimistic. Today all of that is gone. Weston is once again bleeding heavily from his stomach. Its not even 10 :30 am an West has already had 2 transfusions today alone. A total now of 28 blood transfusion. All of these transfusions are keeping him from bleeding out yes, but they do have effects. His spleen, liver an kidneys are all negatively affected by massive introduction of blood product. Just another catch 22. No sign of infection or a wound nothing that points to anything. Just my son, sick an bleeding. An here I sit typing to you because I am useless once again to do anything about it. I am doing the only thing that I can do an asking for you all to pray, to plead, to beg for healing. Weston wants to be here, watch the video he knows when we are talking he waves hello already, he is so smart an strong. The doctors need prayers of enlightenment that they figure this out. Weston needs to come home an show the world just how special he is! |

truthfully i mean this with all respect in the world and i cant comment on what your going through. but I KNOW there is a direct correlation between this and a 40%-60% increase in stomach ulcers. so it cant hurt to stay away from it.
seriously, i pray for you and your child, no one should ever have to go through this but keep in mind....

Hello everyone. It has been a long time since I landed on these forums. I just want to personally come here an show my thanks for all that you have done for my family.
As a gamer we are all privy to the wickedness of some and the comardirty of others. I saw that some people once again took reality for granted becasue they think this virtual world we live in doesnt matter. Yet so many of you have shown otherwise.
So many of you my enimes, allies and friends have supported me through these times of hardship. Thank you.
You donations allowed me to stay near my sons hospital for the last two months without me losing my house. I am approaching very tuff descions soon on how I am going to juggle work an my sons health in order to keep my home, but you all have made these last 2 months so much easier for my family. Thank you
He is 3 days shy of 2 mothns old today. THat is a gift all in itself. CCP thank you for creating a world that I and many others can belong to. Your community here has accpeted me an my men, challenged us to be great, and when we fell upon dark times they lifted us up an saved us.
So many of you may not understand just yet the feeling that a father has for his son, yet all of you responded with such generosity an love and care that you have blown me away. I tell alot of people I meet about STB, about Dust, about all of you. They then go on here or other forums that I have been apart of and see the true nature of gamers.
This a prime example of what humanity is. We are a species of understanding an comapssion. You all should know I have never felt the amount of love you all poured out to me. Your support, care an prayers kept my fire lit. In the darkest hours an the toughest moments I was reminded of how many of you still want to shoot at me an my son when we finally get back on Dust.
Reality has a funny way of warping things in a game. Thank you for putting everything aside an giving me an my family hope. I hope to send a true heart felt apology on an episode of BOTG if its still airing when I hope I can take my son home one day.
Just an offical update now that my mushy sentimental stuff is finished.
Weston will be going on dyalsis soon for his kidneys. When he reaches 18-22 pounds he will undergo surgery for a kidney transplant. He requires daily platlettt transfusisons due to a blood disorder that casuses an enzemye in his blood to destroy his platlets an red blood cells. Docotrs are trying to figure out what it is in order to treat it. He needs a few surgerys in prepartion for dyalsis an transplant. Weston also suffers from hyperbullirubin. A condition that turns him yellow an marks a level of liver dysfunction. He is almost 8 weeks old an has had about 43 blood transfuisions. So if your the giving type, please check out your local blood drives and help restock the shelves. Weston will be in the hosptial for a long time, he will need weekly visists even after I am able to take him home. Right now the biggest issues is the blood disorder an kidney disease. THey need to fix the blood disorder in order for Weston to have surgery. Bleeding complications are keeping us from moving forward. During a MRI scan they noticed that Weston also sustained a level of brain damage to his frontal lobe. They do not know the level of damage jsut yet.
Many things are happening but every morning I get up an look at my son. That is only possible becasue of all of you. Thank you.

Best of luck Quickgloves. I hope everything goes well. It sounds like the doctors now have a plan which is good to hear. I hope the little guy is able to go home soon.

Yes, thanks for the update. We all know you don't have to share such details, but a lot of us feel as if Weston is part of our family. Keep your head up and stay strong. |

Thank you for this, it's great to see your family and friends supporting you in your time of need. Good luck for going back to work, that will be hard to break you guys up, but you're all strong enough to deal, and you hopefully still can spare the time to be together at times. You'll be together in spirit when not in body, and we guys are still keeping you in our thoughts, and hoping for cures :) |

this is a very moving thing that the dust community has done i only wish it were around to be able to help all chikdren who are born early. i was an early birth child though i am thankful that i didnt not have as many of the health issues that most early babies have i do know what kind of a toll it takes on those who love you most as i was reminded growing up about it. as ceo of rare850 i encourage all corps to come together. on behlaf of rare850 i would like to appologise for not being able to contribute more but i do know that if nothing else whatever is able to be contributed is better than nothing at all . so please everyone help this family out. the more we help them the more we help ourselves at being a little more humane which is wht life is all about, helping those who are unable to fully help themselves no matter what the reason. |

Update: So after a week and a half of progress we hit another wall. Weston has been doing awesome since about Christmas eve. Over the last 3 days his health has declined dramatically. This has been a bad week for Weston. Early this he had breathing issues an had to go back onto the ventilator. His Red blood cells an platelets once again dropped an required yet another transfusion. His lungs had collapsed an needed support. His hear began to have issues dropping to low levels. His potassium spiked. An echo-cardiogram was done of his heart that showed abnormalities in the vessels. narrowing of his veins and/or fused valves in his heart. I do not understand it in detail, waiting for the carido team to come talk to us. They ran infection screenings an Weston has contracted E coli, as well as developing an UTI. He is on antibiotics to treat both. So as it stands now, Weston is once again on the pattern of getting better then having some sort of crash every month. ITs frustrating. HE is a warrior and has battled through issues like this before an I hope he stills has some strength in him to keep fighting. I am very worried about his heart an hat that could mean for us. Also he will having an upper GI contrast study done to see if his internal anatomy is the way it should be in preparation for his numerous surgery's. |

Even if Dust 514 goes down into a heap upon itself at lest this is one great cause that the players were able to unit upon and help to make a very positive difference. Nothing beats the outcome of this either. I bet by now he is eating them out of house and home :)
