I don't see it happening. Also, there'll pretty much be racial variants for everything once the content ball really gets rolling, so I don't really see the point in holding back. It'll only take a week or so of play to spec into a new thing well ...

And also the point about being spawn-sniped... the solution is not to make gear non-consumable; the answer is to make a way to stop spawn-sniping. I don't have a good solution for this but yours is solving the wrong problem.
