Despite the rack on the main Heroine, its more about politics and economics than anything. IIRC, made by the same dude who gave us Log Horizon.

Shadowed Cola wrote:RWBY - This is the show we've been waiting for. The spark that will lead to a flame of western developers creating anime.
The lack of inner dialogues and monologues with the obvious western style comedy *Eastern comedy is way more influenced by us then the other way around* mixed in with moe character designs. I can not declare enough love for this.
Anime, lately, has turned to crude humor, explicit language, and sex jokes for the majority of it's comedy. Even shows not considered comedies typically only use these forms of humor. From the accidentally falling down on girl routine to slap-stick over the top joy-rides, anime tends to go all in or all out with comedy.
But RWBY finds a middle ground that western writers are so well known for. You'll recognize the styes of comedy instantly from Game of Thrones, Community, and pretty much anything on Showtime or HBO. It's fast paced, eye to eye comedy. Meaning while they talk very fast, they engage directly with each other, creating some really great skits that both entertain and progress the story or characters growth.
And where there's so much good going on in the plot, the setting even gets it's own episode dedication to help flesh out the world, and it ends up being very well thought out and interesting. Even the monsters get a dedicated episode to explain them, if this show had a Like button I'd be smashing it.
and even with all the greatness in the plot and setting, still better yet is the animation. I could caps lock a lot of descriptive words, and it would be well deserving. But I think you all know what I mean, episode 1 food fight was just orgasmic, and they do that kind of fight scene once every 2-3 episodes.
People jumping higher then buildings then casting magic using "dust" *Great concept for the show to use* combining some of the best Kung-Fu with high movement explosives everywhere action.
And that's still not even my favorite part of the show, i love these characters. Weiss is my favorite by miles, a poster child Tsundere, and she's western made, it's just exciting to see. The rest of the cast too, just charm the socks off you, then blow them off with there intense stunts and willingness to show very real sides to make them so much more then 1 sided characters.
Even the sub characters get amazing plots, my favorite sub character is the red head amazon girl, she's not only charming and easily the strongest, but has the purest heart of them all.
I could go on and on about all the different elements I enjoyed, but I'll stop, and say, damn, should of watched this earlier. One of us, one of us...
But seriously, I'm glad you are enjoying it. I loved the premise of this series and where it came from and originated.
I have many things I want to tell you about it as well as some other things that were connected to it.
On a sad note though, the creator of this series passed away a while back due to an unforeseen allergic reaction during a routine surgery. May he rest in peace.
They make a tribute to him in S3E1 if you get to it. I'll show it to you if you miss it.

Kail Mako wrote:Dude, I've heard an endless amount about One Punch Man. After that I think it's probably whatever season of Monogatari is currently airing. Stumbled across Bakemonogatari a few years ago when it started airing. Blasted away by the first episode. Animation was unique and familiar (Shaft head tilts anyone?). Dialogue was off the charts, introducing me to many different things about Japanese culture that I never knew about. Characters were developed extremely well. For me though, the music: when you hear it, it's like nothing you've ever heard before from other works of art. And then after you hear it, you can't confuse it with any other musical pieces either - the moment you hear the notes, you can immediately tell it's Monogatari from a mile away. Most music for me is quite forgettable or is too close to other generic pieces of music that it's hard to tell where it came from. Monogatari goes well beyond that and creates memorable music pieces that distinguish it from other works of art.
(Currently, the one that's airing is Owarimonogatari. I need to add that to my queue now that you mention it.)
One Punch Man. The hype that the internet created on this was about on par with Kill La Kill. The premise is absurd too: where do you go with a story where the main character can defeat any foe with one punch?
I wasn't going to get on that hype train. I was under the belief that it was just Kill La Kill all over again. (Sidenote: I loved Kill La Kill, but I can go into more detail about the pros and cons of that later.) I believed it's animation would be ok to great. Story wasn't going to go anywhere though. Too much hype, better stay away.
And then there was rage as well over it, specifically the fact that the manga elements of it were highly detailed and people were essentially screaming "YOU BETTER NOT F*CK THIS UP!!!". Another mark for me in which I would stay away, seeing that most of the time the anime doesn't live up to the manga. Figured I would stay away from the ragestorm that would follow.
Browsing on the internet, I came across it again through ANN. Figured I'd give it a look to see what they said for it since they are some of the most critical anime critics I've ever come across. Clicked the link. 4's and 5's across the board.
Somewhere around the range of "it delivered" and "stayed true to the manga" as well as them saying it had a great story premise even though your initial thought is that it wouldn't be able to go anywhere with that. (Hey, they read my mind.)
Wow.
I can't even write a good enough review on it. Furthermore, after watching One Man Punch, I felt like a kid again watching Saturday morning cartoons. And then beyond that there came the comments something around "it lived up to the manga" and "it did better than the manga". And finally, I found out that Madhouse essentially hired all of the "Gods of Anime" to make this.
If you haven't tried watching One Man Punch, just go and watch it.

Review Time!
Owari no Seraph (Seraph of the End)
6/10
Vampires/Demons/Fantasy/Action
Plot: Disaster strikes the Earth as a virus wipes out almost everyone over the age of 13. Those (un)lucky enough to survive find themselves thrust into a new world in which they're hunted by terrifying monsters...in addition to vampires! Yuichiro, an orphan at the time the virus struck, spent four years alongside his fellow orphans living as "cattle" to feed vampires; along with his best friend Mikaela, the two led their friends in a desperate attempt to escape the vampires but are caught. Only Yuichiro escapes. Finally free of the vampire city, Yuichiro is taken in by the human survivors and joins up with Japan's Imperial Demon Army. For four years he trains and attends school and now, at the age of 16, his dream is finally at hand--to take revenge on all of the vampires of the world.
Theme: The inherent cruelty and kindness of humanity.
Finally, a show that matches the emo-ness of Attack on Titan. It centers on Yuichiro's never-ending desire for vengeance against those that oppressed him and killed his "family." Unfortunately, much of the show focuses on the exact opposite of that: the army's attempts at turning Yuichiro from a loose cannon into a reliable teammate. As such, you can expect to see the requisite fellow teammates (that all carry some sort of tragic past designed to elicit sympathy from the viewer) introduced over time, and almost always finding themselves butting heads with the stubborn Yuichiro.
The vampires make for great enemies in that they're far stronger than the humans. Not only that, the show briefly touches upon brief moments of vampire society in effort to "humanize" them; you get the strong sense that not everything is right in the vampire world and that their actions may well be driven by survival more than anything. That said, the overwhelming arrogance they typically display leaves them a bit flat in terms of characterization.
The show is fortunate enough to end strongly. Though the "ending" is wide-open, it does enough to hint at a larger storyline that is hopefully being addressed in the second season (currently airing) and promises plenty of intrigue and the further obfuscation of which side is truly "good" or "evil."
Unfortunately, the show largely ignores the most intriguing character of them all-- Asuramaru, the demon that inhabits Yuichiro's sword. She is, in many ways, the personification of Yuichiro's desire for revenge: a being opposed to love and fond of desire, she frequently visits Yuichiro in his dreams to communicate with him (and possibly convince him to allow her to take over his body.) However, as the show goes on you can sense that Asuramaru may actually have a fondness for Yuichiro...despite the late revelation that she is, in fact, frightened of the power lurking inside of him.
And no review of this show would be complete without the heavily implied yaoi relationship happening between Yuichiro and Mikaela. If the show was aiming for a "best friends/brothers forever" vibe, they completely whiffed. Their relationship comes across more as "Will the separated lovers ever be reunited?" Make of that what you will.
Art is decent and at times gory. Characters are generally cute but by no means attractive (though a few of the vampires are noteworthy.) Music is largely forgettable. No actual nudity is shown and only the slightest bit of ecchi humor.
Verdict: Watchable if you're out of shows to watch (like me.) Worth throwing onto the bottom of your queue.

Hmm, I might try out OPM, but tbh I don't really like Saitama's character design. I'll look into it after it's finished airing. I currently have a lot on my plate. The next anime I have lined of to watch is Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary).

I never would've stared Hunter X Hunter if my brother didn't watch it first. He just kept going on about how good it was. Even so, I watch it in stride. After each season I give it a few weeks until I bother with the next one. If I ever decided to watch another longer one I'd definitely give it lots of breaks between series/seasons/arcs. Still gotta watch the other Fate/ stuff. Curse you Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, and your ability to pull in this yuri addict!
Yozakura Quartet: In a world where demons and humans don't get along, there is a town where demons and humans are able to coexist peacefully. The job of our protagonists' is to protect this town from demons that seek to disrupt the order.
Not really anything I can fault it for, but nothing I can really recommend in for either. Well, except the tsundere song. That's so cute. I'd say this one is sitting just above average. Mainly because it manages to create interesting characters, with interesting powers.
I also personally find the art to be appealing. There are two songs that get played over and over during the series. Some might find it annoying, but personally I think they added to the show.

Kill la Kill - I gave it a 7 just because it had a real, if not insane, story. It did a good job turning villains into good guys and creating tension and some bad ass moments. However, it wasn't Guren Lagan, whose characters were a lot more traditionally anime looking. It's a good watch in Dub over the Sub for a lot of reasons believe it or not.
Log Horizon S2 - The show was already slow, this just took the slowness and made it both repetitive and knowingly frustrating when trying to get to any of the real plot. It isn't even using the cast in enjoyable ways, if anything S2 shows how much certain characters charisma carried the show, and with several of them missing or on side quests, the rest of the cast barely keeps up. The Ninja girl is for looks only to me at that point, turning into a melodramatic idiot.
I had several other problems, and things I actually really liked, but idr, been some time lol
Akama Ga Kill - It's really hard to judge this show, only because the formula becomes so painfully obvious while still remaining a pretty gripping watch. But it completely takes you out of the experience when you're naming who dies when long before events even start happening. I never bothered with the last 2 episodes, I'm sure they're great, ad that no one but one lives. You'd of thought I'd continue to just watch the MC die, lol, god I hated him.
Chivalry of a Failed Knight - So far, this is the best show from this magical wars craze we got this season. Between *W, Anti-Magic, and Chivalry of a Failed Knight, Chiv is the more interesting show, so far.

In fact, once that hit the internet, I remember the comments section exploding. It was explicit without it being explicit. I remember someone saying that if their parents walked in the room, he would have just switched over to a window with ACTUAL explicit content because it would be easier to explain...
And now, all you have to do is type in "toothbrush scene" into Google, the entire first page is loaded with videos on that scene alone. What a time to be alive!

Well, when any series starts branching off into multiple viewpoints of the story, it makes moving content along really difficult. You have to explain each viewpoint from all the different angles. Even if you don't right then and there, you'll have to somehow later.
"Don't split the party" comes to mind.
What I think was a big "f*ck you" though is how the author throws the predictable curveball of "Girl 2 falls in loves with the same man Girl 1 was falling in love with". There were even many outs for it, but nope - they had to make it a "Akatsuki vs Minori" catfight. It's starting to become a plot element that's become stale to me: "Girl 1 is too shy to make her feelings known to Guy 1 so we introduce Girl 2 as a rival in order for Girl 1 to take action!" I can see it from a mile away now and when I saw it coming, I felt like the coach in the dugout trying frantically to tell your pitcher to not throw that curveball, only to watch it get hit out of the park and lose the game.

Romance in Log Horizon has it's ups and downs.
Ups - anything to do with the princess x other guy with glasses
Downs - dealing with a love triangle that is painful to watch.. Because a perfectly beautiful 21 year old girl, is being totally out played on a very mature level by some pre-teen who just barely became self-aware. |

My opinion on Kill La Kill? It was good. Gosh, I must've watched it ages ago back when I was still an anime noob. Mostly, it was absurd. That's why I loved it. The fights were epic, the nonsense was hilarious, and the story was... There. It wasn't bad, but we all know that no one was on that boat for the story. I will say that the Kill La Kill dub is pretty amazing as far as dubs go. I don't know if you play the Hyperdimension Neptunia games, but I found it amusing that Mako is Nepgear. Oh, and Gurren Lagann? I got 3 episodes in before dropping it. It was boring, and I couldn't stand the whiny ass MC.
Akame Ga Kill. Yea, I dropped this after uhm... 5 episodes? 6? When did Sheele die? When at the very beginning I looked at the premise and said to myself, "Yep, everyone is going to die," I never had high hopes from the start. After they did start dropping and I felt nothing I knew that I just wasn't going to enjoy myself. Even though one of the more likable ones died first.
If you really wanna see some good action stuff just go watch FMA:B. Of course, this is coming from the guy who actually likes SAO, and Bleach so my opinion is irrelevant.
I stand by decision that Non Non Biyori is the best anime in existence.
Officially recognized for advancing the science of getting bent.

you know, I did quite a bit of work on the 'moe off' segment before going back to constantly writing about different shows. *Just finished show 13 in 1 week*
Non Non Bu, Order is a Rabbit, Yuru Yuri, and the more recently, Himouto! Umaru-chan all follow the same trends of cute characters + cute situations = a good time.
This is the basis of our understanding of the 'moe' genre, but this is actually a slice of life trend that's been going on for years.
'moe' shows actually don't exist. If you do a genre check, you'll see shows labeled 'moe' range from cute and cuddly, to dark and freaky. *Order is a Rabbit vs When They Cry*
As the years progress our characters are getting cuter and more entertaining to hide the same plot elements we've seen before. Non Non Buyri is a perfect example, offering up nothing new in anything, but still managing to be a great watch.
It's the same concept that's made Reality TV in america so popular, interesting characters, especially cute ones *Looking at you Road Trip and Real World* really bring in audiences. Both male and female.
put them in real life settings that your audience can relate too - you're bound to get a hit. I kinda scratch my head that anime hasn't done this.
But breaking down the 'moe' shows that do technically exist, you can only judge them based on one quality - character enjoyment. And on that regard, Yuru Yuri's Ayano is queen in my book.

Although, when I go back, I see a lot of plotholes and missteps, but I still love them for their premise.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, someone dropped Gurren Lagan because of the MC???
I completely agree! Now go back and re-watch it and forget the MC even exists. By the time he actually starts mattering he himself becomes a bad ass. |

Video Editor Update
I'm on the market for a new computer, and plan to buy hollywoods most expensive editor, lol
Kinda sucks it's over 300 dollars :(
But I'm about ready to get back on movie making, but rather then 'critical' reviews I've been doing, but thinking of mixing it up and making 'biased' or 'opinionated' reviews.
Like, a "10 reasons to watch this show"
or
"Why you, as a genre fan, will love/hate this show*
then rather then breaking down the entire show for all it's qualities, just highlight the more interesting points. I still want to do critical reviews, though |

You probably don't need the most expensive video editor youtube.
Price is not linear in regards to quality.
Find something decent for a good price.

I actually went and talked to other editors in the review scenario and told them what it is I'm looking for. I reached out to 4 different Youtube guys who talk about editing, how to improve, and what you need. Turns out, one was a voice actor working for Funimation! :O
If I want to play several clips at once while trimming clips and cutting characters and portions of the clip from each other to create new content, there are no cheap editors.
Here's an example of what I'm looking to make:
