Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School)
8/10
Action/Magic/School/Romance
Plot: Tatsuya and his younger sister, Miyuki, begin their new life as first-years at First High School, a high school dedicated to those that can utilize magic (which has become a form of technology.) Miyuki's high test scores place her in class alongside other "Bloom"--those that have displayed the highest aptitudes for using magic--while Tatsuya's practical scores place him in the "Weed" class. Beneath the surface of the school, however, a growing confrontation brews between the two classes of magic users and threatens to spill over into open conflict; outside of school, the usage of magic remains a flashpoint amongst the people as outside powers quietly manipulate affairs from the shadows. It is in this world that Tatsuya and Miyuki must find their way, all the while keeping their true identities secret, as well as Tatsuya's true powers...
Theme: The delicate balance of power and humanity.
A solid, action-packed show that stars a badass MC in Tatsuya. He is a man of immense power that clings desperately to a sole piece of humanity--his love for and desire to protect his sister--in the light of terrible burdens that he bears with quiet stoicism. He is cold and calculating while at the same time avoiding falling into the "good guy at heart" trope. Miyuki's over-affection for her brother is quite the turn-off at first as it appears to be little more than the stereotypical "let's give the main female character a brocon issue." As the show continues, however, you begin to understand just why she cares so much for him and what he means to her.
Numerous other characters fill out the show, so much so that it can be hard to keep track of them all. What I found to be interesting was the fact that the show initially appears to be setting things up as a harem for Tatsuya...only to slowly pair off many of the characters while Tatsuya keeps his distance.
One problem with the show is that Tatsuya is simply too much of a badass--you never really get the feeling that he's in danger of losing, or worse yet, that those around him are in much danger. In fact, it isn't until the very last episodes that Tatsuya needs to bring out his true power, and the explanation for why doesn't really use it before is just sort of thrown out there in a feeble attempt to force the plot to fit. It's as though show decided to head towards a darker tone at the end only to back away at the last moment.
Animation is sharp and several of the characters are pretty (without quite being beautiful) while Tatsuya actually looks like a cool guy. Music is solid. A few ecchi moments are sprinkled in here and there without any real nudity (though Erika's backside is plenty nice.)
Verdict: Watch. The plot can drag at times over the 26 episodes, but Tatsuya shines time and again with both his brain and brawn.

Family and life, family and life. I've re-written this script so often I'm going to start calling myself the Aldnaoh Zero guru.
It's not even honestly a good pick, since it's obviously unfleshed out to make you buy the manga originally - and then they got word they got a second season and up the dramatics near the end to prepare for it.
Should of chosen a completed show, in dub. I want to focus on Dubbed shows >,<
Maria is a Virgin Witch mmm Aldnoah Zero mmm So many options, and I'm not tied down, it's all so cool and overwhelming <3 |

1) Everything is getting dubbed these days 2) it's easier to work with and find 3) Not many reviewers pay it much mind, even though the westernization can dramatically impact the plots enjoyment 4) Dubs generally help bring in newer audiences.
But by wanting to focus on Dubs I mean just reviews, I still plan to do much with the Sub work, including it's own rating etc. |

I'd just go off voice myself if I can't get video to work. I'm not here to be an idol.
That, and I don't have a good backdrop to support video. They would get a panoramic shot of my bedroom pretty much .
If I could though, I think I would have video just to put a face to a name. That, and I'm pretty good at presentations and such. Speech class I'm in this semester records all of our speeches, and I've gotten damn near perfect scores on all of them so far, alongside positive peer reviews.
My years in marching bands, sports, and plays have made me excellent at performing in front of audiences

Finished the first season of Is the Order a Rabbit? With the second season already started I don't think I should bother doing a review yet. I will say that this is the most moe of all the moe shows. It's also unexpectedly tender at times.
Tamako Love Story: First off, I'd like to clarify that I enjoyed the Tamako Market series. There were two main reasons, 1) The Shopping Arcade, and 2) Kanna. Both were kept mostly in tact, so in theory the movie should be just as good as the series. It wasn't. The animation kept bugging me for some reason. In the beginning I thought it almost looked like the characters were just standing in front of pictures, and then they kept doing little jumps here and there that were distracting. Not to mention the weird running animation they had for the legs. Furthermore, the movie really faffed about too much. It could've easily cut out about half an hour and not lost anything at all. Also, Tamako herself was klutzier, and dumber than I remember. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just something to note. Oh, and Midori. I cry for Midori.
This picks up pretty much where the anime left off, and actually comes to a pretty good conclusion. Some people weren't satisfied with the ending, but I thought it wrapped it up nicely. No need for a second season here! It retains the same Shopping Arcade from the show, but puts it more into the background so it can focus on the character relationships. The main one being the triangle of Tamako, Midori, and Mocchizou. The first act of the movie was very slow on this front making the movie almost boring, but the second act picked up the slack moving toward a more interesting plot. Finally, the third act completed what felt to me like the entire series rather than just the movie. This is a good thing.
Because I'm obligated to do this: Kanna best gril.

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU)
5/10
School/Romance/Comedy
Plot: Hachiman is a bitter antisocial high school student with no friends and "dead" eyes; he spends his days brooding over society's shortcomings an avoid most any and all conversation with other people. After getting into trouble at school yet again, Hachiman is forced by his teacher to join the Service Club--a club dedicated to helping others out with their problems--that consists of one other member, the beautiful and intelligent Yukino...who happens to have a personality that's as caustic as Hachiman's. Can the two overcome their mutual dislike long enough to actually help others? And can they help themselves?
Theme: No man is an island unto himself.
*Sigh* A show that starts off promising but ultimately goes nowhere. Hachiman is an interesting MC given his nihilistic outlook on life (and youth in particular) and is, in many ways, someone that I can personally relate to. Yukino is great as the "Ice-cold Beauty" and would likely be among the great tsundere characters in anime...if she ever moved past the "tsund-" phase, that is. Instead, she, Hachiman and Yui (the eventual third member of the club) are generally stuck in a holding pattern over the course of the show. It's frustrating to watch as the characters come together and begin to learn about each other (and themselves) and start to grow...only to revert back pretty much to their starting personalities by the end of the show.
The best character, in my opinion, is Shizuka. She's is Hachiman's teacher and acts as advisor to the Service Club. Though saddled with the stereotypical trope of "young and single and desperately searching for a husband despite being so incredibly gorgeous" she is, in many ways, the heart of the show; she guides things generally from behind the scenes but is willing to step in and give the others a push if they're struggling. She is genuinely concerned for Hachiman's future and is trying her best to have him emerge from the shell he's put up around himself, going so far as to tell Hachiman that hurting himself to help others can be heartbreaking to those watching him. The show likes to flirt with the idea of Shizuka having a romantic interest in Hachiman but never commits to it.
In fact, the show doesn't really commit to anything. It just sort of...ends. There's no sense of closure, and that's a direct result of the show's inability to flesh out the characters enough for the viewer to draw conclusions from. Hell, it's a very misleading title as there's very little romance and much of the comedy falls flat.
Animation is solid with plenty of attractive characters (Yukino and Shizuka are particularly beautiful) and a running gag is how pretty Saika is...despite being an actual boy and not a cross-dressing girl. Music is largely forgettable. No real ecchi humor and no nudity.
Verdict: Pass.

Another
8/10
Horror/Mystery/Psychological
Plot: In 1998, 15 year-old student Koichi transfers into Yomiyama North Middle School and is immediately struck by the uneasy feeling that envelops his class. There is one girl in his class named Mei that wears an eyepatch over her left eye...and who no one else in the class will even acknowledge. Koichi repeatedly ignores her warnings to stay away from her, but in the end he and Mei strike up a friendship...which places him in the middle of a horrifying school secret that ties into the mysterious death of a student in 1972 and the terrifying curse that follows the students of class 3-3 each year...
Theme: Japan's xenophobia and the fear of the "other"
Man, what a show. Dark. Brutal. Inhuman. It's a terrifying look into the fragility of the human psyche and the extraordinary lengths people will go to, to protect themselves and those that they care about. From about the third episode on, there's a definite sense of watching Final Destination as each moment constantly plays with your sense of dread. There isn't much I can say without stumbling into spoiler territory, so let me just say that a. don't get too attached to any one character, and b. know that the story doesn't answer the true question of what the curse is and why it happens.
Animation is solid and deaths happen in often sudden, brutal and graphic ways. Characters are pretty subdued in terms of appearance. Music can be excellent at times, but to really watch the show you need a good sound system that can pump out the ominous bass tones.
Verdict: Watch. If you're a fan of horror films--particularly a more mature take on Final Destination--you'll love this. Some plot holes are to be expected, but man...a trippy show that fills you with dread as you watch (and hope that your favorite characters survive.)

Re-wind Review:
Toradora! (Tiger X Dragon)
Original score -- 9/10 Updated score -- 10/10
After a second viewing, I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best shows I've seen. Ryuuji and Taiga's love story is simply awesome; heartwarming, heartbreaking, funny, sad, moving...you name it. It's truly amazing that, right from the first episode, you know the two will pair up by the end of the story...and yet the show constantly throws twists and turns at the viewer to keep a lingering sense of doubt beneath the surface.
What really stands out are the numerous supporting characters; in most other shows, a character such as Ami would have been thrown in as a one-dimensional romantic rival. In Toradora, however, she becomes a key component of the show through her actions while at the same time developing on her own as a person; she's still my favorite character after watching the show again. I initially was put off by Minori's character the first time around, but I really liked her this time. Much like Ami, she is of a duplicitous nature--the character she projects to everyone else and the tragic character she truly is. She sacrifices more than any other character in the show and honestly receives reward for doing so. If Ryuuji and Taiga represent the joy that comes with falling in love, Minori represents the heartache that comes with being passed over. It's in the final four episodes or so that her character is finally laid bare and you can't help but sympathize with her.
I can't think of a single show that does a better job of portraying the importance of love and family...and how truly na+»ve young people are when it comes to such matters. If you haven't seen this show, do so now. If you already have...then go and watch it again.
