Alright, so I've come across (no pun intended) a "Heimdallr" show: Yosuga no Sora: In Solitude, Where We Are at Least Alone
7/10
Haruka and Sora, twin sister and brother, have lost their parents and must now live on their own in a small town where they used to spend their summers. Can their lives move forward peacefully, or will the past come back to haunt them?
Yeah, it's a crappy description. I watched the first four episodes and was like, "Wow, the MC's already fallen in love? How does this show move forward?" Then comes the fifth episode and it all clicked into place (that, and a quick visit to the wiki page confirming the origin of the show.) In essence, you have one storyline that has four separate branches. If you're at all familiar with visual novels, you should know how this goes (and that includes the "payoff.")
Alright, so storyline 1: A basic romance storyline that I thought was setting the grounds up for a harem show. I was quite mistaken! In a word: sweet.
Story 2: An alternate path of the first story, less romantic but far more emotional. Ending was a little too happy-happy for my tastes.
Story 3: Ah, wherein the events of the past come charging directly into the present! Romance and rivalry take center stage.
Story 4: Forget the "darkest timeline"--this is the "Heimdallr timeline." Pretty sure you can figure the workings of this storyline. Can be a bit disturbing to watch.
So, yeah. Good story, okay story, good story and creepy story. The "bonus" story at the end of each episode is good for a chuckle, as well.
Word of note--this goes well beyond ecchi, folks. Talking straight-out hentai (minus the genitalia) at times; this even carries on throughout Heim's story, so be forewarned.
Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention how awesome the musical score is. The same melody is repeated quite often, but the impact of hearing it performed solo on a piano or accompanied by a full set of strings makes it wonderful. I gave the show an extra point for the music alone.
Now, to go outside and cleanse myself with a cigarette...

I'm going to ask you to justify that 7, i gave it a 5. I found half of the girls annoying, the girl with glasses wasn't so bad, but everyone else was just weird, and the different routes highlighted how awkwardly they are when they aren't the focus.
One girl never gets a route, easily the most interesting character, and the show turns her into nothing but a snooping *****. The sister is a sex crazed maniac thinking more of her personal desires then anything realistic, she's nearly a nut case honestly, and most of the characters could be defined in one word. |

With a caveat that my only exposure to Fairy Tail is the manga I found the thing to be completely forgettable. Truly as run of the mill as you could get while throwing as many "power of friendship"-ex Machinas as they could in every major arc. If you're gonna waste your time on anything, there are far better shows to do that on.
I noticed you mentioned Cowboy Bebop earlier on as a potential option for what to watch next. Go with that. A lot of the old Toonami classics are worth jumping into if you haven't seen them yet, FLCL and Samurai Champloo would also be on my list of shows that pretty much everyone should experience at least once.

I have completed FSN:UBW.
8.5/10
Gorgeous is the first word that comes to mind - fight scenes were absolutely stunning. And it's awesome how brutal this show is compared to it's previous counter-part.
But the story has a few loose ends - like what ever happens to Sakura during the whole story? It looked like FSZ was set up just so they could make this show stand out from it's background more - but all the pain and suffering Sakura goes through in FSZ apparently amounted to a total of 10 minutes of screen time between 2 seasons.
And there explanation of magic was strange - if Rin has magic circuits - why do the majority of her spells require her to use outside sources to empower her spells?
She apparently has enough magic to replicate Archers Marble - so that's confusing.
And Shinji - a character who actually deserves to die, gets treated warmly by the sister he physically abuses, and saved by the girl he attempted to ****.
Thankfully they gave us episode 25 to wrap up things nicely and expand upon this universe that we constantly glimpse into but never really get to know.
And i really disliked how Saber was handled. She was more of a woman then a warrior in the second half, dressed in a wedding dress for no reason given and bounded. Which confused me - was that necessary? One minute she's caressing saber infront of the priest to show off her her puppet - the next she needs her bound?
Still, a good watch, and easy to recommend to anyone not familiar with the series. |

Let's see...so what makes it above-average in my eyes, outside of the music? To start with, I like the format. I was expecting this to be a harem anime and was surprised to see it instead showcase how the MC could end up with each girl (excluding the one you are referring to, who unfortunately seems to have been forgotten in the show.) In particular, I really enjoyed how the first two stories mirrored each other to give a more complete picture of the people being affected; it was easy to have a negative view of the parents involved in the first story but the second story actually reveals their motivations for why they behave the way they do.
The third story is interesting in how it both establishes a link between the three characters (Heim-, err, Haruka, Nao and Sora) in the past and how those past actions directly tie into their current reality. This isn't a simple matter of being childhood friends--the experience shared by Nao and Haruka was emotionally devastating for all involved and sets the stage for explaining why Sora is the way she is. Reflecting on it, I'd strongly disagree with your dismissing of Sora as a sex-crazed maniac; she is obviously (and painfully) mentally unstable with severe abandonment issues. What's interesting is that she and Akira (from the second story) are two sides of the same coin--both use sex as a means of establishing a connection with Haruka, but each reacts differently to the result. Akira tells Haruka that they can't be together because she's afraid that he'll leave her, just as everyone else she's cared about has left her. Her reaction to the fear of abandonment is to push those around her away in an attempt to avoid being hurt.
Now contrast that with Sora who, as a result of her various illnesses, has only had her brother as her constant in life; she clings desperately to his companionship and views the attention shown to him by others as a potential threat to her happiness. The issue of Nao and Haruka only complicates things, as none of the parties involved quite realized the emotional impact of that one event; in Sora's case, she realizes that this act--despite being "wrong" in so many ways--could be used to as a means of maintaining a relationship with her brother. In the end, that's how I view it--Sora and Haruka's interest isn't in the physical act of sex itself, but rather the shared intimacy of two people who have found themselves lost in the world for so much time that their entire sense of being is based solely on how the other person views them; for Haruka, he must serve as father, brother, guardian, cook, etc. to Sora. He judges his entire self-worth on Sora's well-being. Though he is cognizant of the fact that their actions are wrong, he worries more about the impact of refusing Sora's advances would have on her mental/emotional state. Sora, on the other hand, is entirely dependent upon the care of Haruka; at no point does she take action of her own initiative. Everything she does is in reaction to the events happening around her currently and the experience between Nao and Haruka in the past. Discovering Nao and Haruka together is what guides Sora to using sex as a means of keeping Haruka's attention solely on her.
Any way you look at it, these are all some F'd up people with a lot of emotional issues.
Oh, and I tacked on an extra point for Motoka's "bonus story" at the end of each episode. A. she's hot, and B. they're actually pretty funny.

I'll address these as best as I can
1. Remember that F/SN is a visual novel with branching paths. There are 3 main "routes" for which the story is told. Fate route is the Saber focused story, Unlimited Blade Works is the Rin focused one, and the final route is the Sakura focused one - Heaven's Feel, which is getting a movie by Ufotable some time in the future. "What ever happens to Sakura" is addressed in that final route.
2. I don't remember a ton of the details for how and why they have as much magical power as they do and there are certainly some ass pulls there (lol magical semen in the VN) but magician families typically have 2 sources of magic, their own internal one powered by their circuits, and the one granted by their family Crest which is expanded on / passed down each generation. The crest is some bananas **** that allows a magician to pull from a pool of magic much more powerful than they themselves would be able to do internally. This is why Sakura was given up in the first place because only one person in the line can receive the magical crest.

Rin's family was taught magic by a very important person in the setting - a man who is technically a vampire named Zelretch, it's highly focused around jewels.
A lot of magi require specific components for their spells - shirou is special.
Shinji is also treated differently because he's not an inherently *bad* person, he's just reacting really poorly because he found out that he is not a wizard. Also how they handled saber had a lot to do with that caster is a bit strange.
Read the VN if you want all the info. Fate = Saber focused, UBW = Rin focused, Heavens feel = Sakura focused.

Fate Unlimited Budget Works is rin's storyline (and archer's) so rin is the main heroine and thank you based Ufotable for bringing a faithful adaption of the VN, unlike the last studio.. (I'm looking at you studio Deen). Studio Deen's fate/stay night has all 3 heroines everywhere i presume (havent watched it yet). I hear that it has a bit of all 3 routes so yeah.. If you want to know sakura's storyline wait for the Heaven's Feel movies. There has been 3 confirmed movies (its kinda like kara no kyoukai) and i heard somewhere about there being up to 6 movies?

And i really disliked how Saber was handled. She was more of a woman then a warrior in the second half, dressed in a wedding dress for no reason given and bounded. Which confused me - was that necessary? One minute she's caressing saber infront of the priest to show off her her puppet - the next she needs her bound?
Caster has a bride fetish = fan service for us (and ufotable makes saber look amazing in that dress number 1 or Dat as.. dress

I never watch films or anything, and I often find it hard to sit through 2 regular episodes of anime straight... Akira is great, most miyazaki/ghibli movies are great too. Welp, I watched it. It was pretty good, really. ^^ It's hard to think that this film was made in 1988.

Even crazier when you realise it only covered about HALF of the events and the manga is incredibly more detailed.

The movie came out halfway through the manga, it covered the events that were written. Nevermind, manga started in 1982, movie was directed in 1988, manga was finished in 1990.

i might just watch something that i wont cry for 30mins straight in the shower over at the end or in any episode. like K-On or something maybe Attack On Titan AoT might not be what you're looking for, but K-on's a great choice, as is Lucky Star, Ordinary Life, and Yuru Yuri lucky star is too boring :P i am half way through ill finish it later also AoT is kinda, i was watching a few eps on tv the other night. I might jsut watch one that I put on my list and never really heard about it. Or i could watch Afro samurai or cowboy beepbop I recommend trying Fairy Tail, it's a slow start, but it's the only long-standing-anime i've ever come to enjoy. One Piece visuals throw me off and make it harder to enjoy, Bleach S4 is terrible, Naruto has way too many fillers, and Inuyasha hanged on one issue way too damn long. Fairy Tail has a way of constantly resolving then bringing a new appeal, the time ark is kinda draggy, but over-all, the show really grows on you. My brother has watched the entirety of Hunter X Hunter (2011), and thinks it's pretty good. My favorite of the long one's is Bleach. Technically I watched 96 episodes of Index/Railgun, and still want more. You also forgot DBZ and it's various other franchises. How could you forget DBZ? Oh, and what kind of anime do you like Firstname? Action, Comedy. Romance, Drama, Horror? I like all of them honestly.. but with me cutting recently I kinda wanna watch more towards action/happy things over, oh look heres a girl and a boy *nom nom nom nom* dead.... ;-; or here is a ghost of a dead little girl who chills with the guy she loves and makes him get his friends together and remember all these sad things and make me cry alot and then make a movie to make me cry more ;-;..
just wanna see happy things for now
