I will be pretty pissed, if DUST ports to PC. I've spent hundreds of dollars on the game, and not to mention the hours too. I still want to play DUST some more. Rattati, if you have the game ported to PS4, I'll keep funding the game, lmao. But seriously... please port to PS4 and not PC. You PC gamers already have EVE, so, back off. |

It's got to be PC. Imagine LvLCap and the like playing it, the competitive scene, the infinite ceiling of ever increasing PC components and the huge amount of exposure it would get worldwide.
Or you could put it on PS4 and get maybe a year or two down the line and have to make a freaking PS5 version - PC makes sense, consoles should be an afterthought. |

Because DUST, in a sense, (and in my opinion) is OUR share of CCP's game. DUST was intended for a console, and so it came out on a console. Don't go ruining it for those of us who have gaming consoles, by suggesting a port to PC. And CCP can still get their money's worth on PS4. Since DUST is ALREADY on PS3, why not move it to PS4. Another thing to keep in mind, is that when you're actually on DUST, in your chats, you see more Dust bunnies, then you do EVE pilots. So... there are more players on PSN playing the game already. And it would be easier for me to purchase a new PS console, than it would be to buy a PC, (which we all know, the current percentage of DUST players won't actually do). I kinda want to lean on my opinion, which is the fact that it would be easier for those of you who already have PC's, that y'all would want DUST to port to PC. That, to me, is SELFISH. And in the eyes of those of us who game on PS consoles, would agree with me on this. In other words, go find another game to play, or stick to EVE, because DUST is ours ;) |

Don't go ruining it for those of us who have gaming consoles, by suggesting a port to PC. This is speculation. We could also say that Dust 514 (PS3) was an experiment. It was CCP testing the FPS market on consoles. Neither of our statements prove anything.
Doug Garcia wrote:And CCP can still get their money's worth on PS4. Since DUST is ALREADY on PS3, why not move it to PS4. Well, let's begin with the fact that the last sales numbers for PS4 put it at 20 million units sold. Assuming every single PS4 owner downloaded Dust 514 (which is unlikely) they still wouldn't hit 20% of the active accounts on Steam. As a business, those are significant numbers.
Doug Garcia wrote:Another thing to keep in mind, is that when you're actually on DUST, in your chats, you see more Dust bunnies, then you do EVE pilots. Also, sometimes Dust mercs are located in low security space which is not heavily populated right now. Try looking at high sec or null. The number of Eve pilots dwarves the number of Dust mercenaries.
Doug Garcia wrote:And it would be easier for me to purchase a new PS console, than it would be to buy a PC, (which we all know, the current percentage of DUST players won't actually do). I think you would be surprised at how many players already own a mid-range PC capable of running 2015 games. It's a fallacy that in 2015 you have to make the decision on either being a console gamer or PC gamer; mid-range PCs are now as affordable as a console and usually meet or surpass console specs.
Hell, even if Dust gets ported to PC I will still buy a PS4 soon (probably Christmas) for some PS4 exclusives.

You play a hard bargain. And you brought out great points. But in my position, you have to understand that, I'mean not the kind of guy who plays more than 3 games at any one time. I like taking my time and really go through with each individual game. Another reason why I'mean stubborn as far as keeping DUST to PS, is of course, the money that's been put in the game. And 2nd to that, the hours (like, I seriously went crazy for DUST... and somewhat anorexic). It just wouldn't be fair. For the love of all that is Amarr, PLEASE port to PS4. I don't want to spend my life savings on Battlefront or Destiny.

To clarify my official stance on the port issue: I believe that porting to PC is Dust's greatest chance at survive HOWEVER after we have a successful PC port I could absolutely get onboard a PS4 cross-over (similar to what Planetside 2 has done). PS4 is a clean, powerful machine (for a console ) and Dust could do well on it.

Ripple, I honestly think that Steam and, therefor, PC would be the worst choice for many many reasons.
There are many things I really don't understand of Steam:
- Why does Steam have 8-9 millions players "online" while only 2-3 millions are playing games? - Steam's grand total of players is made mostly by DOTA2 and Counter Strike players, At peak hours they take up more than half the total number of players alone. Also, both of them are regularly played daily and updated. The other most played games are either masterpieces like GTAV, Borderlands, The Witcher or Strategy / Manageria / Survival games. - A "much better" FPS like Planetside 2 on Steam only have 2800 players average, which is actually the same number as our old PS3's Dust 514, with all its flaws, all its bugs, all its overall "oldness" and its decaying community.
And I'm not considering the fact that CCP should expand their pool of players and shouldn't do self-competition to Eve Online.
Of course, PC offers expandibility and the development is stable for years, possibly reaching much better visuals, but that's it. Games like No Man's Sky, Elite etc on Console are doing (or will do) just fine, simply because nowaday's consoles can handle the immensity of their Universe while old-gen couldn't (technically old-gen could, but with too many compromises). Hell, even Star Citizen could have seen a development on PS4 if Sony ever accepted to give him free reign concerning pretty much anything.
Then, the same old PC-Console arguments I'm not going to repeat (hackers, ease to use bla bla bla). I'm conscious that developing on PC would give a bit more freedom on many things and that the game might have a bettertechnical aspect, but this is just my opinion, if Dust ports to PS4 I will play it gladly, if not I'm probably not going to deal with it.

I'm not sure what your point here is. Yes, many Steam players play DOTA, CS:GO, Civ V, etc. Warframe is also very popular, though not a PC exclusive.
This may come as a huge shock to many people, but it is possible to play more than one game For example, I play Warframe, Dust 514, Pillars of Eternity, Pokemon Y, Civilization: Beyond Earth, and PSone-era games on PS Vita. I enjoy all of them at my own pace when it suits me.

And I'm not considering the fact that CCP should expand their pool of players and shouldn't do self-competition to Eve Online. Planetside 2 is a different style FPS. More twitch; faster TTK, more emphasis on reaction times and muscle memory. It has captured its audience in F2P future-tech shooter market. Dust can capture a different set of players... or some of the PS2 guys, who knows.
As for the "self-competition to Eve Online" remark: have you considered the possibility that CCP wants this? Oh no! You quit Dust 514 to play Eve Online! Oh no! You quit Eve Online to play Dust 514. Either way, they make money.
Also, see my previous comment about the ability to play more than one game...

Speaking of Chris Roberts, GÇ£Star Citizen IS a PC game,GÇ¥ Roberts writes . GÇ£It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform. We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.GÇ¥
xxwhitedevilxx M wrote:That said, the need to move on another platform, is way more important than "which platform". We are in agreement here. PS4 isn't a bad console. I would play Dust on it (once I get one). I would play Dust on PC too. The point is that we get Dust off the PS3.

I always looked at the future of Dust like this...
Dust is part of the EvE universe. EvE is a long running popular game. So Infantry Eve, (Dust) will continue in some form anyway and if that means porting to pc or next gen or upgrading to Legion then I guess that will happen when it happens.
So I just never worry about it.
and we're all going to get ps4s eventually anyway...
