As part of their research, they are requesting the aid of mercenaries everywhere in a bid to find experts and generate more combat data with these weapons. Good idea, one small problem. People will boost the crap out of this event remember the black eagle challenges etc... within minutes of starting people were boosting so while I love this idea and would love to name a mass driver as they are my favourite weapon you can guarantee the winner for each weekend will have been boosting like mad.

Good to hear but will you be able to let people know boosters have been punished and how, reporting a booster feels a little pointless as all you get is a message saying Thanks, now we will do something but you cant know what.

So its possible to check kill logs and stuff like that to make sure they're not boosting then I suppose?

Very nice idea, but I'm worried this will be abused. I'd welcome a random draw with requirements instead kinda.
Eg you will be eligible for getting a chance to win if you kill x people with said weapon instead of auto-win being the top one. That way you will get more data as well I'm sure since some people won't bother at all if they feel they clearly won't have a single chance playing like 24/7 ever weekend...

This is potentially bad news for me. That's all we need is an Officer Combat Rifle. Now they're going to be even more OP.
All I can do is hope someone in my corp/alliance is willing to stomp the living Hell out of people on the weekends, because honestly I really don't feel like doing this event with a Duvolle. It'll cost me money. Guess I'd better pull out the Kaalakiota Forge that I never use because the Assault is superior.

You screw up your weekend by overdosing on a (fun but mediocre) console FPS for the unlikely reward of abstruse internet swag.

i dont play any events that doesnt give everyone an equal opportunity. equal chance at the top rewards within their own playstyle being my main gripe with most events. this one just rewards those with the biggest ingame wallets and no jobs/life so have all the time in the world to play

Another issue I foresee with this is since there will never even be simply player-to-player trading in Dust, all these officer weapons will feel redundant as you will likely loot something you can't use or don't want to use, and then it becomes a wasted asset just like all the Balac's and Thale's I have in my inventory that I have no intention on using. At least being able to sell these things to NPC markets to get a bit of ISK out of them would be nice.

Well you don't have to play the event. There is no obligation for CCP to make events that appeal to everyone. I believe there is an event going on currently where if you win one match each day you get some low meta gear, doesn't interest me at all but I know that not all events will. Or what about Operation Mauler or the Commando Contingency or that Scout/Nova Knife event, I'm sure those didn't appeal to everyone. CCP's never going to please everyone. If you don't like the event than don't worry about it and play the game the way you enjoy.

Who's to say there won't be a similar event for secondary weapons? It's better this way, as it encourages a finite player base to focus on a smaller number of weapons. If/when the challenge is rewritten for secondary weapons, the same principle applies.

This is a wonderfully designed event.
I might actually log on and attempt a no life on one of these weekends, it's actually gotten me really interested.
Taking a popular community game (naming officer weapons after players) and making it an actual event... That's great.
Well done.
I'd like to ask for a of clarification though - I'm pretty sure I've understood correctly but before I attempt to clear a weekend I'd like to check if I'm right.
On each weekend, you have a chance to get lots of kills with one of these types of weapons.
The highest score of any of these weekends is what is counted for you.
The person with the highest score will have the opportunity to name that officer variant.
Is that correct?

I was gonna go for the Plasma Cannon...but Ghazbaran deserves the PLC way more than I do (even though I still REALLY want an officer Plasma Cannon)

Especially because the entry requirement is proto guns. So you have to have a certain level of no-life to even be capable of participating.

I was about to agree with this, but then I remembered something... Laser rifles are't FoTM, nor are Plasma Cannons, Forge Guns, Mass Drivers, Sniper Rifles, or Swarm Launchers. Oh, they'll likely get the Combat Rifle and Rail Rifles, maybe even the Scrambler Rifles and HMG's, but the rest of those will likely go to the dedicated who have been using them for a long time.
Nova Knives are best sidearm.

We would take great pleasure in educating people on proper event etiquette. So its possible to check kill logs and stuff like that to make sure they're not boosting then I suppose? just check the weekly kills or KDR if you see multiple people with like a 400 kills and 1 death they are boosting and report their ass i know i will. |

It's because of the lore
We're testing "prototype" weapons to create a new "variant"
That, and it'll make the event more fun.
And you're risking much more isk with prototype instead of just spamming mlt suits
Also, why give 30 officer weapons to a player that isn't willing to use their proto gear? If they won't risk proto gear, why should they get to use officer gear? On top of that, if someone got a ton of kills with a basic weapon, yet died 20 times, they wouldn't be risking anything in order to win that officer gear.
And finally, if someone who isn't even skilled into proficiency wins, why would you give that player officer geat they can't even use?
I understand that the event excludes newer players, or players without a lot of isk...but it prevents players from being able to name an officer weapon who:
-are not willing to risk their gear
-are not good at this game
-do not have the isk to run proto (or are so bad at this game that they can't make enough isk to run proto)
-do not actually use these weapons (i.e. are not even skilled into the weapon very far)
-are not dedicated players that have been wanting specific officer weapons
It makes it so that you compete for the weapons that you are skilled with, and can't just compete for weapons that you don't have the skills to use (unless you spend a lot of money on aur weapons)

Yes, you only need to max one weekend out of the four, this is designed so players have four distinct periods, not a sum of the weekends. It also means a single person might win all weapon naming rights by having incredible 12 single days, though I doubt it can be done

Most of us expect that people will indeed boost their kill counts and do their best to hide this fact. As other have pointed out, this event does seem to target the same hardcore players that would also have hundreds of millions of isk to burn through. Perhaps a temporary reduction in proto weapon prices would help even the playing field?

Could you hotfix the shotgun so that all the pellets register? The shotgun can be very frustrating due to shield flare and no damage registering. This statement makes me assume that you believe all the light weapons are done being iterated upon.

Don't think the event is that bad, i'll have a crack at it.
if nothing else there will be new officer weapons available for nearly all the weapons afterwards.
1 thing I'm a tad confused on is if the assault and breach proto weapons aren't valid why is the thales valid?
it's an officer weapon rather than a proto, just sayin...
also what exactly is boosting? as long as it can't be done without intending to do it I'm happy. |

You could have had other smaller rewards like "for very kill you get with X weapon, you will be rewarded 2 X weapon of the same tier" or something. There is no incentive for anyone else to participate except for the super-rich super-hardcore tiny tiny tiny tiny fraction of the community.
Seriously, how did you think its ok to have an event where 99.99% of the community will gain NOTHING? there should have been smaller rewards for other people.

But please change this, it would also allow the winner of each category to move onto different weapons that they're not as familiar with and allow other people to win, and allow people to know if they even have a chance of winning with their select weapon.

I am in agreement with the majority of the voices on the forums. The idea that only the person with the most kills with each weapon will gain this opportunity makes it almost pointless for the majority of players. However, Aero Yassavi has a good point as well. So I have come up with a compromise.
The person with the most kills will get to name the officer weapon and will get 30 of them right? And we want to give the other people who realistically have no chance at actually WINNING this thing a reason to play right? Why don't you just say for every kill by a proto weapon, your name is entered into a raffle. At the end of the tournament weekends, take all of the names and draw 10 of them for each weapon, giving each of them 10 of the new officer weapon. So if I, for instance, had 10 kills with a Combat Rifle and Aero also didn't win but he got 110 kills with a CR (just using it as an example), he has his name entered 110 times and I have mine entered 10. This way, anyone who participates has an opportunity to at least get something out of it. I know if I at least had a chance to win something (because there is no way in hell I have the time/resources/skills to win this thing), I would be more likely to at least run a few matches and try and get my name entered as many times as possible to win a few "SNAFU" Combat Rifles or whatever name the winner comes up with. However, Aero is much more LIKELY to win one of the spots in the raffle because, you know, odds and stuff.
We are talking about a basic MS excel document and formula that takes about 5 minutes to type up so we're not talking a lot of time/resources on this. Run it 10 times and give 10 of these to those players, but no one can win more than once and the overall winner is not eligible since s/he is already getting 30 of them. We're not exactly flooding the market and they can't be exchanged anyways. Any thoughts/suggestions?

This event gives neither of these things. It's nothing more than a sink for the vast majority of us, and an excuse to protostomp for the rest of us.
I wouldn't have a problem with the event being more valuable for these wealthy members, but that no-one else benefits is the part I have a problem with.

It would be nice if they added a, every X kills you get with X weapon you will get X officer variant of that weapon. Would make it feel a bit more rewarding. Something like a 100:1 ratio would be fine since it is an officer weapon.

Wait im confused, so the part where you say -get 500 kills with assualt rifle and 200 with "pyrus" assualt rifle= only 500 for the weekend because of different weapons-does that mean i can only get my Boundless HMG kills to count while my Gaustan HMG doesnt? Apologies for confusing text.

I'm not a dev so my thoughts are not definite.
Though my guess is that in the first case, it's the exploding tank that kills the player. You made the tank explode so the kill is credited to you, but technically it was the explosion that killed the player, not your swarms. So my guess is that it doesn't count.

I don't really see the problem with that.
It gives you a choice between continuing with one weapon to feel like you've ensured victory, or you can gamble and try for another.

Can this be clarified? Are you expanding the event to beyond the weekend or is that just a 'thought'? If you do expand the event to beyond the weekend you *need to make this exceptionally clear to the community* as it certainly affects those who are competing for a weapon.

The counterpoint to this is people seeing what a 'record' is and being able to go out and 'smash' it. It's already somewhat easy to figure this stuff out - just look at who is competing for what and then check their weekly kills before and after event.

I have to agree with the original idea of not posting records each week. If only encourages people to compete on the last weekend of the event as they know what the record to beat is. If you don't have extreme amounts of isk, money, LP or time attempt each weekend to ensure victory, you might only make one attempt, and it isn't fair that people who compete during earlier weeks have a disadvantage over people who compete during later ones because the later competitors know what scores to beat.
This event is about dedication. You are to become the officer worthy of having a weapon named after them. If you really want to go for it, then you should attempt it as hard as you can, but everyone has enough time to save up, practice, and attempt it during at least one of the four weekends.
Also, on the idea of more rewards for the non-winners, perhaps if you reach a certain milestone, you are rewarded with some of the new weapons. This could be done for each attempt. For instance, if you get more than 500 kills with your most used weapon during a weekend, you get 10x of that officer weapon. Then people with less money/time/skill can still have fun getting new gear, and people competing for their coveted weapon can get a consolation prize if they don't win. It encourages people attempting multiple weapons, and involvement from players that don't want to compete for the top spot to be involved in the fun.

Well that's a big problem because If you don get caught your not punished. As for killer, victim, your character aspect, there are some people you can see boosting very evidently in the weekly kills. They jump the chart and get 100+ kills in 20 mins. Check the leaderboards and you will see

There are rumors going around that the rate of salvage has been increased.

Clearly this. If you should post numbers you should have decided on that beforehand. Assuming you want to run some sort of fair type of challenge that is, thinking about that not everyone may have the time to participate all weekends, thus the later weekend you can participate, in theory the more help you have as you know what goals you need to reach.
I for one rather hope that my 3 swarm kills* is the best until the event is over knowing I cannot participate every weekend, rather than seeing it broken on week one.
So don't go posting numbers suddenly, they add (imo) absolutely nothing good to this event except frustration that you change your minds in the middle of the event.

I hate to say this and I tried for going on 2 weeks not to say anything since people were doing the event. Therefore it pains for me to that that this was by far the WORST event EVER MADE in DUST514 history.
Pros:
- New officer gear for every heavy and light weapon is coming out
- Data is gather for each weapon and how many kill there were for each weapon
Cons:
- There are only a handful of weapons to name. meaning only less than or equal to 10 out of 1000s of people will get to name a weapon and the same 10 will be the only ones getting the new gear in their respective weapon
- This caused Prototype gear usage to go haywire aka proto stomping.
- Killing the NPE (new player experience) and this is coming from a 1 year vet
- Every weekend when this event happens means that anyone old or new will tire of playing the same people using the same overpowered gear over and over and over again. This drops the retention rate of this game IF if wasn't low enough
- Poor timing. Not even a month ago when Legion was announced player retention rate dropped faster than the Great Depression. Was this event made to increase or maintain the retention rate?
I cannot list everything that comes to mind but there are more cons from this event than there are pros.
My feedback would be to take the cons listed and take those into account for future events. Hopefully players who chose to go on to Legion will not face the same problems DUST had. Speaking of which did Legion get green light yet?

Perhaps next time have an event where everyone can have a shot ? Mercs vs. Devs and the top 100 people who get the most Dev kills on the weekends with a qualifying proto weapon gets a chance with a random drawing?

This would only work if it was done in Project Legion and Project Legion was open world.
People could then hunt the Debs similar to events I remember happening in Eve.
It would be too easy to flood queues with the same people lobby after lobby.

so now that the event is over (more or less) I'd just like to remind ccp to be very careful with the winners of this event there have been cheaters, and with more than one method of cheating.
to anybody that has cheated in this event, I'm seriously disgusted.
if you come away from this event with the win do not think it means you are the best if you boosted regardless of how many people you had to help you boost, got somebody else to do an extra thirty hours for you whilst you slept so your character could run for 72 hours, or any of the other multitude ways of cheating.
unless you did the work yourself and against genuine players then you don't deserve it.
after watching people on here complain about various "scrub" tactics from red line sniping and rail tanking right through the range to proto stomping none of it comes close to you. you folks are the ones that ruin the game.
and it should be obvious enough...
as if people can honestly stay awake for 72 hours straight whilst sitting still, or suddenly stop being killed in a single weekend out of their entire time on dust, or suddenly and miraculously start killing people at ten times your usual rate 
to ccp I'll say this
if you catch em, ban em. your game does not need this.

It's been years since I've stayed awake for 3 days straight. For good reason. My insides feel like crap, my hands are cramped, and I can't tell if I'm hungry, tired, or sick. Probably all three, but I'm doing it. Haven't played Dust 514 in over a month, but I felt I owed it to myself to make a legitimate attempt.
If these guns port over to PC with Legion (as a throwback to the original fans) it will have all been worth it.

no i backed out of like 80%+ of all my matches tried to back out as much as possible. it must be something else.

I personally counted every single kill I got. Some games I didn't count my kills just in case at some point I over-counted. There is no way that I got under 2000 kills. Gadamit. |

I was certain either TT or more likely catdog had the shotty, I know catdog used a fair share of Remotes and saw him get a kill with a boundless every now and then when he would swap suits at a depot and wasn't sure of his starting numbers so TT at least stood a shot at winning but TT got like 6k kills IDK why it displayed such a low number and I took like 800 kills off TT's score for non shotty kills and Wednesday + Thursday something's up.

So since someone got picked up by a milita needle (Mind you I was spamming ambush so there were lots of milita medics) I'm suppose to let the person aware of my presence turn around and kill me and for the kill to count after I rekill the merc I have to rush towards 10+ enemies to terminate a clone!? Again information before the start of the event would've been crucial so I could've spammed Dom instead

You were not required to terminate the clone.
Additionally, kills still counted when backing out of a match.

Well I'm completely bewildered to why my 6,307 kills counted and tallied with a calculator, didnt secure me the Combat Rifle title. All kills were from the basic proto version "Boundless Combat Rifle" all kills counted were after 7 o'clock am CST Friday until 7 o'clock am CST Monday, I subtracted my score from the previous days before the event. I even re-counted the kills from Friday and Saturday plus the current kills for Sunday while the 4 hour downtime hurt my standings.

Are you counting kills in PC? because those kills don't count

I added the PC kills to the count before the event started including non combat rifle kills which is why I know I have 6,307 CONFIRMED combat rifle kills.

Half of you are counting matches from planetary conquest and factional matches which those kills dont count. Public match kills were the only thing that counted.
Why am i the only person who participated in the event that isnt having a **** fit about them winning? Seriously get over it you lost move on.

If you read we said we SUBTRACTED kills that don't count, and when you stay up for 3 days straight (more or less) you'll fight for a recount on the unjust results

99% of all PC players that did the event MAYBE participated in one or two PCs over the weekends
And judging by the amount of kills you get in PC, I doubt it would have swayed the votes between first and second anyway
I know personally 0.H. And I.H. stopped all weekend PC attacks over the first three weekends so that our players could all participate in the event

Simply do the math, 3 days with down time is 70.5 hours or 4230 minutes. Take this into account on the number of kills, 2115 kills is one every two minutes. 6345 kills is one very 45 seconds not taking to account of battle search time or taking any breaks. I might have averaged 150 kills with 20 hours each weekend with the Charge Sniper Rifle, 160 counting all weapons. The most kills I saw was 24 by a tanker calling the Warbird Strikes in all the battles I was in. I have a hard time believing the numbers are for only the most kills for one weekend and the listed gun.

SMH you are foolish if you think the 1st ammendment is valid on the internet. 1st ammendment doesnt give you freedom of text so until you have the ammendments changed to include the internet you CAN NOT say whatever you want on the internet. With that being said no they dont have a right to complain. They lost they should just get over it and so should you. They obviously are counting themselves wrong. Or adding in kills that didnt count I.E. grenade kills or road kills. Regardless they lost so a recount is not necessary and its a moot point. Just deal with it YOU ALL LOST (except the winners)

I should have stated that what battles I was in, Skirmish and Domination, Ambush was not checked so I did not fight in them. I do believe that IT is possible to get that many Ambush, not in the other two. I did not grind to win, not complaining, way to old to sit that long and not be watching ****. I am not into the 1 to 1 kill ratio, working to get back to 4 to 1 as a Sniper. I have tried other rolls but do not have the reflexes to be up close, down to 1.85 to 1 with the HMG in May. I did make the top 10 before the Event started was at 65 to 1, after that fist weekend I was off the list.I knew I had no chance, so grinding was not on my list to do.

Just checking but this is exactly like when my gf complains that my controller is broken bc she can't get past somewhere on sonic the hedgehog... She's 100% sure its the controller, but yet I get pastin half a second... Just saying, but VG players are notorious for crying out that anything/everything is unfair when they don't win as much as their ego tells them they need to. Also lol that when someone is a good sport they didn't win and when someone QQs its because they got cheated. I disagree. I'm not sure if the PS4 controller has a more sensitive joystick, but as long as there are people playing FPS games with joysticks there can not be an easy way to aim without selling the game purely for M/KB users.

I've already made a push for my personal preference for any future sniper rifles, and with the issues currently being addressed that's kind of on the back burner right now. That weapon looks fun, but seems to akin to a rail rifle with higher damage and smaller clip.

There are weapons in the game with longer names, and some with slightly more or less characters.
We have the technology. It wouldn't break the kill feed.
In part this is why I chose not to use the "modified" descriptor in the name of the rifle.
This is a special event. I want them the accommodate the length of my name.

I sent back asking them to reconsider "Viktor Hadah's NEG1 Laser Rifle" I mean spending 50+ hours in one weekend to play this game and plus supporting it for 3+ years. I would think they could be a bit more lenient, it's not really about just naming the weapon it's more about leaving a mark on New Eden, so i can be playing EVE or Legion 5 years from now and see my name on a weapon that i put in the hard work and dedication into.

So it wasn't just me, I wanted to Use Alex-ZX's modified imperial murderer Heavy machine gun, U can't question me it was funny, then Alex-ZX's modified SG-003, was another..... no you can't buddy, so well Alex's modified ZX-030 HMG, at least i can say there's no other Alex-ZX in this game and i already have the "same" name in EVE Alex-ZX HUNTER so i can't complain that, of course i would like to see my complete name in the weapon. :P not talking about the recommendations of the weapons cus they can be or not....... I'M COMPLETELY SURE ALL OF U KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!, hehehe |

Something a little closer to a Thale's but a charge variant, so increased damage. Scope isn't all that important. Maybe just give it insane headshot damage, and moderately higher damage than a Thale's. Headshots are rare in PC, but it would be effective against heavies. There are so many good options. I hope they choose something both cool and useful, but honestly I won't mind so long as it's a useful gun that people won't be upset looting.

Oh, yeh! A free officer weapon I could use on every suit in every pub match. :) I think the winners are the only ones in the universe that aren't made ill by the thought, lol. It would be a different thing entirely if the event was about a BPO standard or enhanced weapon with a name of your choosing. Maybe they'll decide to do some dropsuit or sidearm data mining and that could happen. |

As far as I know, no. We can see them in variations, but I have know idea whether people can salvage them or not, and I certainly don't have my precious scramblers yet

I request the laser rifle to get the spread and damage of an HMG building up to even more with more heat at twice the optimal range of the current laser rifle with no overheat

We added the actual items so we can more easily add the stats at a later date (actually deploying a new item is more work than fixing it's stats, so we just copied the prototype weapons as placeholders with the new names). I've got the first pass on the stats sitting waiting to go and as soon as they're live you'll all get your copies. Later on all the new officer weapons will be added to the regular salvage tables.
