Oooh, imagine the tears when the one and only officer mass driver is named "The Imperial Mass Driver." 
But CCP, why no sidearms? Also what were the complications with having officer weapons of the variants?

Doh, you're right. But we need more!
No clue why I forgot that because I absolutely love my Wolfman, just don't use it enough because I don't have many.

Another issue I foresee with this is since there will never even be simply player-to-player trading in Dust, all these officer weapons will feel redundant as you will likely loot something you can't use or don't want to use, and then it becomes a wasted asset just like all the Balac's and Thale's I have in my inventory that I have no intention on using. At least being able to sell these things to NPC markets to get a bit of ISK out of them would be nice.

Would you like a participation trophy? i dont play any events that doesnt give everyone an equal opportunity. equal chance at the top rewards within their own playstyle being my main gripe with most events. this one just rewards those with the biggest ingame wallets and no jobs/life so have all the time in the world to play
Well you don't have to play the event. There is no obligation for CCP to make events that appeal to everyone. I believe there is an event going on currently where if you win one match each day you get some low meta gear, doesn't interest me at all but I know that not all events will. Or what about Operation Mauler or the Commando Contingency or that Scout/Nova Knife event, I'm sure those didn't appeal to everyone. CCP's never going to please everyone. If you don't like the event than don't worry about it and play the game the way you enjoy.

Seriously, how did you think its ok to have an event where 99.99% of the community will gain NOTHING? there should have been smaller rewards for other people.
On the flip side, there are several events where the rewards are something the "super rich" don't care at all about. I use quotations because I am going to be able to easily fund a full prototype weekend and I don't consider myself super rich, plus I don't participate in PC and spend a lot of my time in FW that doesn't even pay ISK. So I don't really think the barrier to entry on this event is all that high, but back to my point: There are lots of events that do nothing for these "super rich" players, so why can't you throw them a bone and let them have an event designed for them? What's so wrong with that? Also these "super rich" players tend to be the people who have supported Dust through thick and thin and they are the ones most deserving to name a weapon.
