I have personally spent around $800 dollars on this game if you include the eve collectors edition and the ps3 I bought SPECIFICALLY for DUST 514. and personally, with the answers the panel is giving right now. I feel like CCP is giving me the finger and telling the DUST community as a whole to go **** ourselves. I hope you realize CCP that you have just made ALL of us feel really alienated and will lost a good fraction of your playerbase due to this. I will be here till the bitter end, watching this once glorious dream of ours crumble around our ears.

Wow.... And I don't mean the Keynote/ Blog thing from CCP-Rouge. I mean the grunting and morbidness of US, console players---we act like such defeatists. Are YOU the players I play alongside in this game?
All due courtesy to him, but CCP-Rouge's "speech" in this blog was spoken like a true vulnerable politician/CEO. He's fitted the speech with the corporation-presentation-to-public phrases that are customary in his field (and unfortunately sound blander than corporate persons perceive): "It's been our pleasure, and will continue to be", or "Looking forward with new excitement", or "Our mission has always had three cardinal principles", are phrases you may hear in any CEO's presentation, and I THINK you read variations of these phrases in Rouge's statement. But it's a statement that is meant to state nothing, and is usually too timid to even want to intentionally IMPLY anything.
The only "inference" I get (and I get it more from CCP's behavior over the past two months, NOT much from this dev-blog entry), is that the company has only made a single internal decision about this Dust/Eve hurdle it's stuck on, doesn't know how far around the hurdle the decision will go (or maybe hasn't yet made all the detailed decisions that follow the single first decision they just made), and honestly don't want to TRY to talk 'suppositions' and 'maybes' to the public because that stuff just triggers "A Run on the Bank".
I don't blame any CEO or company for that. When the only real answer is "We're trying something new...we don't know yet if it will work--we have to continue pushing on both the new and old and see where it goes" , OMG you know you can't say that at your company's presentation/conference. But you gotta say something... Public's drooling like fanatics... So you give the public what CCP Rouge gave: "Warm and Mushy, and Hope to See You All As Stage-2 Begins!".
...Face it, that's all the announcement really said. If you find something in there to make you feel sad or stabbed in the back, you're making up that ghost yourself.
When I read about opening a player account on Dust 514, I understood it was giving no promises, but it WAS on a CONDITION: The condition is that this hasn't ever been tried before, so players will have to put up with changes and updates, and we'll see. Stay with us please, but remember CELESTA, we don't know JACK about whether this all will work...it's an experiment.
I made up my mind and said "okay" to that busride a year ago. It's been MORE than two years for some of you, and some of you STILL have yet to make up your mind to ride along on something unknown, or climb off the bus because it's too unpromising for you. .... |

From the sound and performance of things, the Dust code for PS3 is a convoluted mess. They started out with some seriously high ambitions and a good layout to get there. Along the way it turned out a new engine was needed so things had to be switched over and since then new issues and technical limitations have cropped up endlessly likely only furthering the convolution of the code.
Dust514 could never get the sort of features and possibilities it needs to really be great on the PS3 or likely with the code currently in place. By restarting on a platform without such limitations and with the experience gained, CCP can now build a game with a clearly laid out master plan. The code can be developed logically toward that goal to allow for all the planned features.
Developing legion separately frees CCP from the tangled code mess while allowing them to use all they have fine tuned with the dust controls. Legion is in a good position to make rapid progress and it offers something completely new. Now when legion is completed, they will have all the minute to minute mechanics for a shooter in place because these are necessary in order to do scavenging the way they talked about.
Once Legion is finished I would imagine CCP will begin another major piece of the original idea behind dust as a second feature of legion. Basically they will have the engine for an FPS made and can add the features they hope to keep from Dust into this separate game.
Eventually Project Legion can contain all of the things we wanted for Dust and at that time they can look at putting it onto a console capable of handling it or leave it as pc only. This approach will let them make the best use of the experience from Dust and for a game with such high ambitions they really have to develop it on the least restricted hardware available and then, once complete, see if there are other options for systems it can be run on.
TL;DR Restart, add stuff, learn from past, make way faster progress by removing old roadblocks and confusing code. Make the features we always wanted, expand it until it includes the entire original concept, dramatically increase likelihood of actually getting what we wanted. |

Fair enough. And if you want to stick with it...kudos to you. Sincerely, much respect.
But understand, my issue is not that they decided to go to PC. Whatever...it was always a possibility. What burns my ass is that they are moving all forward development to PC, and we are left with what? Yeah...think about that. Think about how great it is gonna feel reading about all those great strides they will be making on EVE: Legion while console players get what? Do what? Continue to do what we have always done...wait? No thanks.
And it isn't just the news they gave us but HOW it was delivered. They used 20 minutes of a one hour keynote speech and then dropped the mic and walked off the stage. No indication of how this would be implemented or how it will affect those of us who have been playing the game for two years. We get a Dev Blog minutes later saying essentially we have become the 4th Class citizens in New Eden behind EVE Online, EVE: Valkyrie and now EVE: Legion.
Defend them all you want. You know in your heart of hearts that you've been screwed over.

Mixed feelings for me.
I'm a PC gamer at heart (purchased a PS3 solely for the -souls series) so the platform switch is fantastic for me. On the other hand; I invested a lot of time in money into Dust due to the promise of what the game would be in the future with a proper EVE-link, not what it is currently as a generic lobby shooter. By the sound of things, there will be no carry over which bums me out a bit.
If there was some sort of transfer over from Dust to Legion, even a one way irreversible character transfer I would be very happy with the announcement as a whole. |

I'm sure Legion will be a lot better on the PC than Dust could ever be on the PS3. I might even play it at some point - although recent events haven't exactly made me less anxious of giving my money to CCP to fund the possible realization of a distant future goal. Also, I don't have a gaming capable PC at home, so that's a definite hurdle. However:
- You really bungled every aspect of the communication about this.
- Why would I continue playing Dust when you've basically admitted that you don't really have any idea how long it will be kept running, what features or improvements will make it into both Dust and Legion, whether you'll be able to do any kind of Dust character migration to Legion (some dev, don't know his name, just said on the stream that you'd really like to facilitate that but you don't know if you'll be able to) etc.
I have about 34 mill or so SP at the moment - a good chunk of that was earned through bhuying boosters, BTW - and am currently spending any extra I earn on luxury upgrades like SMG proficiency for 777000 SP and stuff like that. Some of my Dust sessions I enjoy, some I don't. What has mainly kept me playing has been:
- My in-game friends - of whom I see less and less
- The notion that I'll get to use my upgraded skills etc. in new game modes and contexts some time in the future, perhaps even do more PC matches than the 20-or-so I've done at random times during my 15 months of play.
The hope for fanfest was that there would be some information about what I could reasonably be using my hard earned SP and experience for in the future. The takeaway is: probably nothing.
I sure as hell know I'm not wasting another second playing Dust until there has been some rock solid clarification about what actually will happen to it in the future and whether there will be any kind of transferrability of Dust characters to Legion.
Annoyingly enough, the EVE subscription I started 3 and a half months ago (specifically to have an EVE side presence that would allow me to produce gear for my Dust character) was just billed for another 3 months, so I'll probably keep spending 10 minutes a week on training new skills just in case some positive news emerges. Although the outlook is rather bleak there, too - the guy in the Dust 514: Progression session basically said there would be no production link in the foreseeable future. |

I am crying with blood. CCP, you ruined my dream for perfect brain-blowing FPS and made a cheap BF-like arcade named legion...
This is no more one universe. Legion has nothing in common with EVE, it does not use the same mechanics... It's pretty much a clone of planetside 2 or sci-fi BF, nothing more.
It is stupid to expect something from former EA losers.
CCP, you had a chance to make a unique mmo-fps in the limitless universe. You failed. What a shame. |

Ganked!
Great news for those interested in FPS that actually work, FPS from different companies are distinctly more interesting now.
The fact that you are keeping CCP/Shanghai because they are battle hardened vets of video game development is somewhat confusing. Yes they are experience but they still aren't any good. Your current FPS doesn't actually FPS - yet. The bugs are not fixed (of course, now we know why - Dust is dead). Input is ignored and you have been waiting to Gank us from the very beginning.
Well, at least we understand why we have been treated so badly for a game that was allegedly in Release. It was never going to actually hit Release without a name and system change.

Hey CCP you need to go into damage control mode. Alienating players for any reason is never good. That keynote was a fail. Give us great news about the future and then just drop a bomb about only PC and then nothing to soften the blow? No info on Dust iteration? No offer of SP bonuses in Legion for Dust vets? There's a way to do this. Be smart and show the community some love. Don't make enemies. Remember Incarna! |

Another fair point. Valid...totally valid.
Then why did they not spend the next 20 minutes of the Keynote telling us about this 'plan' to improve the game and get it back to a next-gen console? Because there is no plan. Despite the capability of next-gen hardware today we are still static, developing the game on PC means we will always be left behind, without the ability to catch up. We will never play the same game. There will never be parity. It is over on console. Maybe that is what they want now. Sure seems like it.
They wanted to bring in new users to New Eden. That was the ENTIRE argument for developing Dust 514 on a console. That and Free-to-Play made it accessible. They could not deliver a product people wanted to play....at least not enough people to make it worth their while.
So they threw it all out the window. They cut and run. Fine, great, we got screwed. We can deal. But they don't have the balls to stand up and give it to us straight. A lot of smoke and mirrors for months. It's pathetic.

Thanks ccp. I have really enjoyed dust it's social side has been really good, and the game ideas were great, i hope you learned enough from what was obviously just an experiment all along to make your p.c only fps a great game.
In case your unaware though, you just killed valkyrie. Most console players prefer consoles.
I say this because players won't stpp using their consoles for legion, and now they won't trust you enough to buy valkryie on ps4, i certainly won't.
People who are unsure this is what reading between the lines says. Thanks to all our dust bunnies, we learned how to make an fps now we'll take it to the players we actually wanted on pc, We will let you play until this beta for project legion fizzles out until then there's one or two features we're not quite sure about and we hope you will play on the pc game we planned on all along and we now know to make.
I think that sums it up. Let me know if i missed anythin.
So thank you to all the players i've met for makin this game great, i hope to see you all on destiny in the meantime i'll be there through dust's death throes with you. |
