I'm sure Legion will be a lot better on the PC than Dust could ever be on the PS3. I might even play it at some point - although recent events haven't exactly made me less anxious of giving my money to CCP to fund the possible realization of a distant future goal. Also, I don't have a gaming capable PC at home, so that's a definite hurdle. However:
- You really bungled every aspect of the communication about this.
- Why would I continue playing Dust when you've basically admitted that you don't really have any idea how long it will be kept running, what features or improvements will make it into both Dust and Legion, whether you'll be able to do any kind of Dust character migration to Legion (some dev, don't know his name, just said on the stream that you'd really like to facilitate that but you don't know if you'll be able to) etc.
I have about 34 mill or so SP at the moment - a good chunk of that was earned through bhuying boosters, BTW - and am currently spending any extra I earn on luxury upgrades like SMG proficiency for 777000 SP and stuff like that. Some of my Dust sessions I enjoy, some I don't. What has mainly kept me playing has been:
- My in-game friends - of whom I see less and less
- The notion that I'll get to use my upgraded skills etc. in new game modes and contexts some time in the future, perhaps even do more PC matches than the 20-or-so I've done at random times during my 15 months of play.
The hope for fanfest was that there would be some information about what I could reasonably be using my hard earned SP and experience for in the future. The takeaway is: probably nothing.
I sure as hell know I'm not wasting another second playing Dust until there has been some rock solid clarification about what actually will happen to it in the future and whether there will be any kind of transferrability of Dust characters to Legion.
Annoyingly enough, the EVE subscription I started 3 and a half months ago (specifically to have an EVE side presence that would allow me to produce gear for my Dust character) was just billed for another 3 months, so I'll probably keep spending 10 minutes a week on training new skills just in case some positive news emerges. Although the outlook is rather bleak there, too - the guy in the Dust 514: Progression session basically said there would be no production link in the foreseeable future. |
