1.0-0.5 MLT/STD gear. LAV only -10% isk payout
0.4-0.1 MLT/STD/ADV gear. 2 vehicles each side same payout as now
0.0 anything goes 4 vehicles per side. +20% isk payout
that way its lore firendly (DED controlled combat regulations prohibit use of experimental equipment in empire controlled space) and when we get new players in we can gradually build them up. those of us with high skills will still have an advantage over new players but limiting HAV spam and full stomps of higher tier suits would ease the pain up a bit. sure my covenant assault will have 20% more hp but a noob will at least kill me with thier militia/recruit rifle if they catch me off guard whereas in proto i can turn around. pick which testicle i want to take of and then shoot There are several problems with this. The SP, experience, practice and knowledge of the maps, are much bigger differences than the gear. Vets wanting to pad their KD will still stomp new players in "highsec" matches with STD gear. The payout differential is minimal, and if you decrease it enough to disencentivise vets from playing these, you'll be crippling new players from building enough ISK to buy skills and try new things. If you "fracture" the limited playerbase into these gear-based tiers, and again by the 3 existing game modes, the matchmaker will have an even worse time getting balanced matches quickly. It would also decrease the liklihood that CCP could add additional modes in the future, because it would make the matchmaking problem exponentially worse with each new mode.
The better solution (as I stated earlier in the thread) is creating 1 new mode that is only available to players under some SP cap. New players can still join regular pub matches, FW, and even PC (not likely, but still technically possible), but they have a "kiddie pool" option to play against each other, learn the maps, develop tactics, earn enough SP to build a solid fit, etc.

Its the gear that seems to make the difference in my matches. Then again I come from playing the older classic rainbow six games. Like Athena sword, and rogue spear. So my gun game has to be up to snuff as well as positioning and situational awareness.
So it could just be experience on my end but most battles involving the same tier gear I come out on top. Win some and lose some but yeah. I think the idea has some merit. Just needs to be done correctly. |

MINA Longstrike wrote:Overspending in weapons is *awful* advice, you can get by fine with std or adv weapons. Core skills > Suits > Weapons.
That depends largely on the style of play. CORE Skills, yes. Suits, maybe not.
From Beta I've been a sniper. I don't get killed very often, I use terrain, cover, and true scout technicques to avoid getting counter-sniped, and when heavies try to charge my position I just shoot them down. It isn't too hard to stay alive. Now that I have extra SP saved up, I put some SP into vehicles and sidearms.
I do apologize OP, when I think about it this way MINA has a point, I was thinking from my perspective. However, I am aware that you can pilot, and in that case you don't really need a ton of eHP, or suit bonuses for that matter, since you will spend most of your time in a vehicle of some sort.
In this case, Weapons can broadly refer to your Vehicle Module of your choice--railgun, blaster, missile--and specing into those is useful because that decreases CPU/PG usage of vehicle weaponry, meaning that you can fit other useful modules.
So when we put MINA's perspective into view, this is how I see it:
Core > Weapons > Suits
or
Weapon > Core > Suits (Note here, I write "Weapon" because it is singular. First find what you enjoy doing and what you do best, and keep at it. That's the key to success-learning to play your role effectively, to the very best. Once you do that, you become a gem to your corp and to your wallet ))
It helps if you have BPO's too.

A better NPE is something we're taking very seriously, and while I can't share anything with you just at the moment just know that there is currently work being done on improving this. If you ever see me in game, feel free to send me a message or shoot me in the face. I have to say this. Through all the bullshit and everything else Ive experienced tonight and previous mentioned days, that last line somewhat made it worth it. Thank you for responding to this thread, but I have no idea what would truly redeem this game in my eyes currently. Ive tried everything now to have a good game including running free suits. They seem to be the only thing i can get even a single kill with in the last few days. Its ridiculous. This event that is coming up I have a bad feeling about as well. It will mean i can get more experience but at the same time, I feel that every single player will be out in force with their squads jsut to "farm" players like me. And that is really what they are doing currently. Im a little mob in the middle of a field that has no chance against any opposition that has been put in front of it lately...
Hey don't forget you also have allied Corps like Nova Corps Marines, Cosmic Void, Defenders of the Helghast Dream, Battle Survey Group, and Endless Hatred. We often have Alliance squads running that you can easily join by going into the Squad Finder. Alliance and Corporation Squads are always at the top of the Finder. If there isn't one there then go to our Dust side Alliance chat channel and LFS there. We are all there to help each other out.
I do agree, however that the New Players have it bad.. a simple Player vs Environment mode would help significantly on this

True. But it will at least be fair from an equipment standpoint. Then the newberries will be more able to appreciate, "wow. that guy really nailed me.. wonder if I can do the same?"

This is manifestly untrue even within your own company, sure there's some marketing-hoarding prior to fanfest style events but in general across the course of the year look at the difference between just EVE and Dust alone in terms of comms.
Go look at how some other companies like SOE itself and ArenaNet handle comms about upcoming changes if you need some pointers.

to be fair yeah having it broken down into these types just helps even the equipment playign field. sure vets know the maps but as i said. its to have vets run with noobs out of the academy. i've been runnign with 5 recruits recently. they all have around 1-1.5m sp. when we're against people in similar suits to ourselves we can still hold our own. real world experience at FPS gaming accounts for far more than 45m sp. yeah my exile AR will do more damage than his, my suit will have a few more HP but if someone is better at flanking than i am then they can take me, whereas if am sat in my stacked out proto gallente logi he can flank me, shoot me, i turn around giggiling that his militia rifle tickles and then blast him in the face with my duvolle and wait for my complex repper to heal me back up in the time the next one comes along.
i'm not saying vets will try and abuse it but at least in 0.5-1.0 it wont be constant proto and vehicle stomps. it will level the playign field some. look at game sliek BF4 and COD you can jump into them with guys who been playign months but all your guns are similar and you can stand a chance. proto doesnt make you a better player. actual experience does and having coupel of vets with a squad of noobs or even a squad of random noobs together they would stand more chance against a squad of nyains in STD gear than they would in STD vs nyains in proto gear

I don't start with nothing of that no even sp or isk bonus(maybe i get a bug who knows) and i just use for alts to get easy cash nothing more.
I remeber to start like the hard way end the academy and get stomped people must learn using trial and error methodology.

Under my proposal, you wouldn't have a squad of Nyains wearing anything in the academy because they have too many SP to be eligible, so that whole issue goes away completely. If your concern with using the SP cap instead of gear-based tiers is vets not being able to mentor new players, then all you would have to do is use a throwaway alt character. Biomass her when she hits the cap for academy matches. Don't use boosters, and turn off passive SP and you should get decent mileage out of each "mentor alt" before having to convert it to Soylent Green. You'll still have the ISK you earn, and you get to experience a variety of playstyles. I don't see much of a problem.
Also you never addressed the concern about fracturing the concurrent player pool and the resulting matchmaker issues that would result from it. If we had 3 tiers of gear, with 3 types of matches, that's splitting the playerbase into 9 pools for the matchmaker, further split that into regions, and you start to wait for a very long time to get your match, and when you do, it will always be the same people (much worse than it already is).
If you look at it objectively, using an SP capped mode for new players is much simpler, and achieves the same goals, while avoiding most of the problems. Yes, making/biomassing mentor alts will be annoying, but it's a much easier and more manageable downside than those that result from your proposal.
Also, the playing field shouldn't be even. DUST isn't about fair fights (it should have balanced fights though--there's a difference).
Best PvE idea ever!

Roofer Madness wrote:Aika Nakata wrote:Day one: First game was incredibly fun. Player academy put me up against people in the same gear i was wearing and my skill showed. First person shooters give people with some relative skill a good time. 44/9 out the door of the academy and to the bears. Played another six games and went to ask questions on the forums. Was dirrected to find a corp and also to "get gud".
Day two: Joined a corp. Played a few games with them and had a relatively better time in general. Corp logged off after a few matches that we were able to play and I was left solo. So after a few games of getting the **** kicked out of me I said **** it and logged off. I dont need to beat my head into a wall.
Day three: Learned to fly a dropship! I took to these things rather well and have been complimented several times on the way I fly them. However I still lost quite a few ships to av rail tanks sitting back nowhere to be seen. Lost most of my isk this way despite having fun flying around the maps. No points to speak of from flying these ships however as nobody will stay in the guns and I dont have access to anything more advanced than gorgons and vipers.
Day four: met nyan san...all ******* day...Quit out after an hour of playing feeling like I had been barred from the game.
Day five: specced into advanced combat rifles. Still forced to play with lower tier rifles due to cost per fit and lack of steady income in game due to player lockout from even pub matches.
Day six: Realised most of my sp investment was somewhat pointless. Rather depressed about the game in general
Day seven: Learned that I dont like tanks. Or heavies...or anything with over 600 armor in general. Finally hit weekly sp cap.
Start of week two: Swapped my tank modules out for recharge things. Same time until death but could actually pop in and out of cover to at least defend an objective. Cant find squad to play with.
week two day two: find out that the rdv driver is an *******. He drops my dropships three times in a match from at least 50 meters up, killing them each time on impact...then when i get one in the air, comes in carrying another vehicle for someone else and swats me out of the sky. I take his plate number and intend on breaking his ship at some point. Stomped by better gear all day long. Managed to get a few kills here and there. K/d has dropped below levels that are acceptable to me.
Week two day three: log on and notice I dont have enough isk to restock my ten suits i keep in stock. Remember the night before and try and run free kits to get some isk. First three matches are against queue synced corps. Constantly stomped in the face over and over. Log off highly frustrated.
Week two day four: Finally get in a squad with a few players. Have three wonderful games where I was able to support my team with my commando. Got to rep some people. Made enough isk to finish out refits. Squad dispersed after a few matches. Proceeded to get my ass kicked and sent hatemail from teammates telling me to get better. Funny, I was top of the endgame report on that team...400 points total. Yay...
Week two day five: Decided to try tanks for a little while. Rdv driver dropped my tank on the roof of some building...got there after a friendly took it and drove off. Proceeded to run into combat without vehicle and just let the ****** have the vehicle. See my vehicle explode...die a little inside.
Week two day six: Get spawnkilled in the deployment less than 20 seconds into the match by a dropship running xt1 missiles. Wonder how he got there that quickly. This set the tone for the day. Cant find a squad most of the day. Ended up quitting very early, the rest of my experience playing out that this game just doesnt want me in it.
Final day of two weeks: Spec into level 4 combat rifles and gain access to assault combat rifle. Load up a fit with the rifle and see what the thing is all about. First game I got one kill then proceeded to die 5 times in a row without my weapon fireing for some reason despite seeing the animation. Lost money. Tried again and got a few more kills, no support and still lost money. Final match, every player on my team was afking behind our deployment zone running in circles inside the ship with me and a single squad mate out fighting 3 tanks and a boatload of prototype mercs. Most were heavies. No chance to push past the line whatso ever.
The game has barred me pretty much entirely from playing and doesnt seem to get any better. To those that got here early enough to not have to deal with the **** im seeing and feeling every match that i play, your lucky. To those that are feeling the same that i am, go throw things at ccp buildings. (dont actually do that.)
To everyone else, good game...or not...this game doesnt seem to be anyway. That sounds like a pretty accurate rundown of a fresh mercs time in New Eden. All I can say is try Factional Warfare. Use th etime in the warbarge to squad up. You will be facing better players most of the time in FW but at least your team MIGHT be helpful. Good luck.
FW doesn't pay out isk bra, he's pretty damn poor as it is. It's supposed to be the other way around that FW is an isk sync for the vets but not two ***** were given. At this point this game has come down to this:
CCP starting out:
Let's see what happens if we just throw new players in like this was a prison colony. Surely the internet and of course human history has taught us that humans are just inherently good sports and especially when it comes to leisurely activities they will exercise restraint with the newcomers.
CCP Now:

Son I am disappoint. Don't listen to CCP, specializing is a good way to be useless to your team half the time when your skill set isn't needed/gets hard countered/gets nerfed into uselessness. |

Yea, realized that a little later. It's okay, I'm max skilled at the core stuff for the most part now. |

I remember hearing talk about specialization when this game was first being introduced. My question is, how can anyone specialize into a specific type of game play when radical changes are made almost every patch. I have changed my specialization 4 different times. Not to follow the FoTM, to put myself in a place where I felt was the more comfortable for my play style. The only reason I have had to change is because of the changes that were made. Where I was very happy with my choices, those choices were changed for me. When you take something that people have invested their time into and change it to the point it becomes less viable to their play style then you are making the choice for us. And, our choices were impeded upon.
This has happened more then a few times. How can a new player be expected to thrive if they spend a good amount of time finding what play style that fits them only to have everything about their choices changed without their consent, approval or proper testing to see if the changes made will effect the time established choices the player has made. Remember people pay money for boosters. Logicly if you think about it, they are paying for skill points to invest in those choices. So when you CCP make radical changes you change the product people paid money to purchase.
It is like me buying a plate of food and after waiting for the time it took to get prepared and already having paid for the meal up front via my time & money I am served a different meal then what I ordered. If you purchased a product and someone handed you something different or changed what that product was shortly after you purchased it then would you be happy about that purchase?
It doesn't bother me so much because why? Because I have become accustomed to the consistent change that the CCP Dust 514 Dev team has implemented over "release" of the game. New players who have less then 1 million SP feel these type of changes the worst.
Anyway, NPE is an absolute priority. That much isn't even debatable. A lot of people are crossing their fingers for this game to be strong and progressive. Attention spans are short in the FPS community. The longer it take to address the real issues the harder it will be to dig Dust 514 out of the whole it is currently in.

it's all about persistence and cheap suits. CCP won't let me change my name so I create alts all the time. I find that if you're willing to let your k/d ratio drop, than you can get tons of isk running militia stuff. Just stick it out to the end of the match, and as long as you keep pushing yourself, try to take objectives, and hack the crap out of things it doesn't matter if you die 20 times.
cause your militia suit is less than 4,000, and you're going to be making about 100,000 isk on average.
Also, skills really add up. not only that but you will be surprised how versatile a militia suit can be with all militia modules and equipment (except militia nano injectors, never run those unless you also have a rep gun), and only your gun at standard.
here's a cheap fit that will help: militia gallente light frame combat rifle or rail rifle
militia nano injector militia repair gun
as much armor stacking as you can get.
stay close to a group of players and watch the wp roll in.

Maybe I'm a masochist, but I enjoyed starting out in this game. Sure, it wasn't fair, I got my ass kicked a lot. But working my way up from opportunist to slayer was a trip.
Unfortunately, the OP's experience isn't good for the future of this game (because newbs spend the cash!). Which sucks, because I love Dust, even when I'm screaming at invisible ass-hats with rail rifles.
Saberwing, if you're looking for constructive criticism, I think it might be a good idea to introduce a game-mode that puts everyone on a level playing field with militia gear and 0 SP.
Once there are militia variants for all the weapons, this could be a great mode for hardcore competitive play, with separate leaderboards. Unique gear and rewards would be fun for vets
If NPE isn't a priority, for the love of Space Odin, start capitalizing on your veteran players. Sell some bling on the marketplace (character personalization!!!). I'd pitch in if you sold corporate headquarters for all you corp mates to hang out in, instead of our merc quarters. Wouldn't that make players feel more connected to the universe?
Just some ideas.

Fanfest is coming, guys. And I get the distinct feeling it's gonna be a doozy.
We'll be learning about the next named Dust expansion, and more than likely the next Eve one too. Last year, us pod pilots heard the name of our summer expansion in early March (IIRC), and we've heard nothing but a few suggested changes thus far. The fact that CCP is waiting this long to reveal the Eve expansion - in particular, that they're waiting to do it at the same time as the Dust expansion - suggests to me that both games' reveals will contain big news about the Link, which I can't wait to see.
I put trust in the post by CPM Hans from a while ago (can't be bothered to find it) saying that CCP's relative silence about Dust of late does in fact mean large amounts of productivity are going on. We haven't heard a peep from Rouge since his introduction, we know nothing of any advances to vehicles, FW, PC, or anything else. As frustrated as I am at that (like many of you), like Saberwing said, why would they tell us anything big when their biggest event is just weeks away?
CCP wouldn't stay silent for this long without good reason, I know that. Devs and CPM alike who are in the know about things to come seem very excited about it, and I bet they feel a bit like this guy did up until this reveal. I might even go so far as to predict such major announcements as full racial vehicles of all kinds, PC 2.0, FW 3.0, PVE, PVE with an Eve connection, or even Tiericide.
And of course, that's to say nothing of Valkyrie, for which I expect to hear a release date. I'm also curious if CCP has changed their approach to the Oculus version in light of the recent Facebook acquisition (protip CCP, I will not be buying a Rift now).
Just wait, mercs. Wait three more weeks. We waited three months for 1.8, we can wait one more to hear the big plans. I still have hope, at least for those three more weeks.
To Saberwing I say keep up the good work. You community bros are basically scapegoats at times like this, but I and many others appreciate what you do to try and keep the mob orderly. o7

You don't release anything for fear of overhyping/underdelivering/rumour-mongering but the solution is worse than the problem.
Silence = incompetence.
Measured communication = middle ground = good.
To think that any company, gaming or otherwise, would release anything of substance prior to their biggest event and platform is a misguided conception. Silence =/ incompetence, that simply isn't true. I will openly admit that the NPE isn't where we want it to be and that we don't want to be driving new players away from the game. But, I will also quickly rise to defend the talents of those around me where I feel necessary. I see so much experience and "competence" in this studio, and I fully believe they are capable of delivering on this game's vision.
What you need to do is fight for the ability to actually give us, your community, the actual details of what you and the developers are working on. If you actually told us what you were working on we would be able to provide actual constructive feedback before you lock it in thus making you final product FAR BETTER.
You and everyone at CCP working on DUST should be begging the OP and others like him to describe his experiences in detail and tell you exactly what he feels needs to be done to correct the many wrongs you have created while you sit there and listen and then integrate his recommendations into the game. Then you tell him, and the rest of us, your exact plans before you release them so he can tell you if what you created is an accurate reflection of his recommendations. |

I've played a lot of dust and won't like to lose my investment, but this is one of so many points on which this game faceplants that I almost hope CCP gives up already and shuts it all down just to save us the pain for later. |

Preach it brother (or sister, who knows?).
Waiting/Soon (TM)...is what is going to end up costing this game.
I'm a naturally patient person. I'm the kind of guy who doesn't mind my GF taking those extra 30 minutes to do whatever. But Dust, oh Dust, has kept me waiting for many months now. I started this game excited, having watched the E3 2011 Trailer ( featuring integrated dropship/tank combat, thinking perhaps that we would, for once, have an intelligent Sci-Fi themed (and I liked EVE's lore, which made this ten times better) BF4 grade shooter.
Boy was I wrong.

I dont know how much manpower is behind Eve, Dust and Valkyrie, but the relative slow pace of visible progress indicates that it isnt too much. I wouldnt expect crackling fireworks on fanfest, since most of the announced features for 2013 didnt hit yet (its 2nd trimester of 2014). So even IF they announced significant changes in may, backed by real-time gamed presentations, I'd expect a delayed implementation of these features of about a half to full year.
Well whatever it may be they announce. If its not PvE and/or open world exploring ... I wont be psyched. But I made a vow to play dust at least till PvE strikes, so I'll play on.
The answer to your complaint is PvE. Always.

I hate to sound selfish, rude, and self-centered but Aqil Aegivan does make a point. I do recognize the work CCP had put into this game. But with the following problems: PC is dead, new players (once they each 2000 war points) will quit after 7-10 matches when playing with the veterans, horrible balancing mechanics, according to the credits in-game YOU ONLY HAVE 3-6 PEOPLE ON YOUR QUALITY ASSURANCE TEAM FOR DUST (yea I looked there in the credits and 2 of them were interns. btw you might want to redo the copyright since it was on 2013 and it is now 2014), and the unbalance mechanic for ISK payout when it comes to risk and rewards, are you sure we are on track with the vision of the game?
