Hey there. Glad to have you with us, even if it is a somewhat sadistic experience for you at the moment 
I don't agree with the notion that we purposefully make the New Player Experience daunting due to New Eden "being a harsh place". Yes, that is true of the EVE Universe. But there is a balance to be had, and we want to make the game accessible to newbies.
A better NPE is something we're taking very seriously, and while I can't share anything with you just at the moment just know that there is currently work being done on improving this.
If you ever see me in game, feel free to send me a message or shoot me in the face.

Well, unfortunately I can't make you believe me. Nor have I been here since Closed Beta. All I can offer is my word on this, based on the things I see happening within the studio. I assure you we're working very hard on realizing this game's vision and I'll be stoked when I can finally share some cool stuff with all of you.

Regardless of it being what the Community "wants" to read - it is the truth and worth reiterating where I feel it is merited. It is better than silence and failing to acknowledge the issues we see affecting our players would be even worse.
I'm not here trying to provide false hope, only that we're taking steps, even if they are small ones, in trying to push in the right direction. Things have been changing drastically behind the scenes here and in time I look forward to sharing more.

Yes, this is cool stuff, but I'd say a little off the mark when compared to addressing some of the core issues highlighted in this thread.

You don't release anything for fear of overhyping/underdelivering/rumour-mongering but the solution is worse than the problem.

Silence =/ incompetence, that simply isn't true. I will openly admit that the NPE isn't where we want it to be and that we don't want to be driving new players away from the game. But, I will also quickly rise to defend the talents of those around me where I feel necessary. I see so much experience and "competence" in this studio, and I fully believe they are capable of delivering on this game's vision.

We've made many additions recently to the team, including a new Executive Producer who you'll be hearing from come Fanfest. I have complete faith in everyone at CCP Shanghai and I look forward to sharing what they've been working on.
