**** THE WEST. Especially America. They put their nose in where it does not belong.
Go Russia! Granted I am sure you are far from perfect but at least you are not hypocrites like our leaders are in the west.
The west complains about Russia going in to the Crimea to help their own people (Or people who would consider themselves mostly Russian or Russian bias) yet the west invades many other countries over totally false pretexts. Cough # Iraq # cough.
By the way - Over 97% of voters in the Crimea voted to join Russia and now the west does not like that and is calling it illegitimate. If people voting for their own future is not democratic then what is?
I love many parts about my country and what the west stands for but you cannot deny the fact that our leaders are totally corrupt and totally hypocritical.

For those who care to learn a bit before making braindead comments on it, here's some basic info on the situation: Crimea is part of Ukraine which used to be a part of Russia. Crimea has been a largely pro-Russian area of the Ukraine for some years now. It's not like Russia is invading Ireland or anything, they were annexing Crimea to get the Ukrainian military out of it so that Crimea could become a part of Russia again. As of right now, Putin is insisting that they have no intentions to further hassle Ukraine. On the flip side, this action was brash and violated several international laws. Russia did something similar years ago with Georgia (the country, not the state), but I really don't recall what happened with that.... it kinda got fogged out with all of our stupid war bullshit over here in the US. Our news pretty much stopped covering it and we lost interest. Anyway, they pretty much got away with hitting Georgia. That means the international community is taking this latest action very seriously. And that is a VERY basic rundown of the situation. Now, people, please learn about the topic before you post on it.... Ok finland has been part of russian imperium, and also we have russian minority here.So if putinland sorry russia decide invade in finland bcause russian`s here want it will be ok?Or if finland decide invade karelia bcause it was rightly our`s before commies took that away from us

Just to clear things up, my earlier post was simply to inform people of the situation. I personally am leaning towards the anti-Russian side of the argument, though since there was so much animosity towards Russia I felt this thread would be better suited having a middle ground explanation. Don't mistake me for taking Putin's side in all of this just because I understand his side of things.

Damned if we do and damned if we don't. People want America to intervene in world events and others want America to not intervene world events. Not just the people here but around the world. There will be people saying screw America because we're not helping or because we are. If we were to simply just isolate ourselves from the world except our straight-forward allies, people would QQ. If we would act like the world police, like we still do at times, people will QQ.

With the Russian/Ukrainan situation getting out of hand, the only real problem CCP would have would be if the transaction from Russians to U.S currency through aurum hit a dead end with America blocking all transactions from Russians in Russia. Then CCP would have to find a way of getting around it to still make a profit while following the sanctions U.S has put. but I don't think anything major will happen unless Russian players are currently un ukrain or crimea. Like the other guy earlier in this thread said. so ofar the only alliance to get affected by this was the Russian speaking one whos players were majority or primarily in crimea. those outside wont really be affected by this.
This is a war situation of Russia trying to get back its original soviet union territories back into Russia's borders, this is their attempt at making their financial situation better and more powerful than America's

also china and Russia's military power could effectively invade us on our best day and we would struggle to keep dominance on the mainland.

I swear, people read a couple news articles and watch a few videos on CNN and suddenly they're spouting their opinions like they have a ******* Ph.D in geopolitics.

I don't think a draft would be necessary until everything turns to poop. I believe many civilians would throw on their fatigues and even more if they feel like their freedom is threatened because 'Murica. I know I would consider it although my asthma might be a problem for them(I don't know how the screening process works).
Also, I HIGHLY disagree about America struggling with fighting mainland. There's an itch that many people have been waiting to scratch, especially in the South, imo. I mean sure the average civilian wouldn't be as trained as an actual soldier but that lax on gun laws and how people really feel about defending their territory is something to consider.
Let's not forget the fact that there's a surprising amount of people prepping for an invasion or doomsday scenario with bunkers, and plenty more.
Then there's the guerilla warfare aspect. Oh and how fanatical we are, even with America's bad reputation. I mean, the only way I would imagine we would be critically struggling would be if we think that it's okay for them to invade us and I find that extremely unlikely.

Considering that we have the top navy in the world, unless china and russia somehow got all of their tanks and gear across the Bering Strait without us noticing I would say good luck invading the US mainland. And then once you got here there is a gun behind every blade of grass.
And I don't think the sanctions that the US is imposing right now are the kind that would effect CCP. There are no trade embargoes as of yet just freezing of liquid assets held in the US of top government officials. No land seized or the confiscation of said liquidity. Although it does raise tensions a little bit reminiscent of the cold war era, which I am not a fan of returning too. We don't need a third civil war.

I'm just here to shoot nerds in the face. Real world politics has no place in the game unless I'm directly involved and other people bring the topic up. The idea of taking some kind of in-game action in response to a real world politician taking hostile action is just silly.
Realistically the only effect this will have is on in-game "ethnic" politics, if there even are any Dust groups based around the Russian language, or on internet connection stability for players living in that part of the world. Beyond that it isn't relevant to us. |

Russia is such a filthy country, that I can't, with any logic, support them in any way at all.
Have you visited my homeland in the past, Paul? No? Do not, then, insult my homeland without having first seen it. Meanwhile, having lived in both Russia and now, currently in California, perhaps I can enlighten you against what the AP, or "Associated Propaganda" has been trying to brainwash you with.
And by the way, before anyone calls me out about AP being Associated Press and not Associated Propaganda, I'm trying to make a point.
First of all, Paul, I do not know what tier of life you were born into, but I was born into the Russian middle class. I had a sponsored, hard-earned education and while my compatriots often spoke only two languages--Russian and English--I had the chance and did learn English, Russian, French, and German, and since then I have added Chinese and Spanish to the list. I don't know about you, but I will guess that you only read English news. I read four different sets of news, from four different nations. I CHOOSE to be educated, I CHOOSE to know what is truly going on, and I CHOOSE to SEE PAST THE PROPAGANDA the respective nations are allowing their newspresses to release.
I have had the oppurtunity to graduate from MGU with honors,
Please pardon me if I may sound critical of you but perhaps what draws ire against Russian people is our brutally frank attitude--if we see someone acting like an idiot, we point that out to him. But by no means am I calling you one. Instead, far from it. I feel that the term idiot is too good a term, and it would be a misnomer for you.
I do see that you say, "I can't, with any logic, support them in any way at all."
I can't, with any logic, support the fact that you have logic in the first place just noting your illogical statement. If that isn't paradoxical enough, what is?
Here. Just a sample of Putin's speech in adress to Crimea issue. I understand you probably cannot understand Russian, otherwise I would have given you RIA's version. The translation here is good enough: http://rt.com/news/putin-address-ten-quotes-778/
This is the difference between America and Russia, as I have found out while living in California. Here is America, Americans cater to the minority despite the suffering of the majority. This is obvious through the ill-planned-fascist-attempt-at-socialism called Obamacare.
In Russia, we can only be moved by the majority. That is why we help Crimea, because 60% of Crimea is Russian and that is something Putin cannot ignore.
Honestly, this is a good video as well: Ukraine Nationalist Speech
You probably don't understand Russian or Ukrainian, but this "Nationalist" is saying that Russians in Ukraine should die, be shot in the head, and all that jazz. Of course, our Western, "Associated Propaganda" which is trying to portray Ukraine and its Revolutionary Government as the good guys, would not publish such videos.
After watching it is it any surprise that most Russian-speaking and Russian Crimeans would call to Putin for aid?
It is quite simple to illustrate to you and all the Double-Standard taken here by the United Nations and US:
1) Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait wars "against Terrorism." Approved of by the UN. What did America want? Oil. Did we get it? Oh yes.
vs.
Russia enters Dagestan, Chechnya, Georgia "against Terrorism" Draws international IRE and disproval by the UN What were we after? No doubt there was economic interests in this region as well, but let us not forget that these "states" are on OUR Southern Borders. It is that much easier to cross into Southern Russia and carry out Terrorist Activity. Can America say the same about Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait?
Ukrainian DEMOCRATICALLY-ELECTED President Yanukovich overthrown by way of revolution and replaced. New Ukrainian Government and overthrow deemed legal, and New Ukraine is recognized by the UN.
Russia gains Crimea through legal vote, deemed illegal and illegitimate by UN. What about the New Ukraine Government? Is overthrowing legitimate governments legal? No.
Please note several things: Crimea given to Ukraine in 1954 by Nikita Kruschev, a UKRAINIAN-ethnic leader of the USSR. At this time it was ok, because Ukraine was part of the USSR, and the USSR answered to Moscow. But in 1991, Crimeans found themselves suddenly "Ukrainians." Couple that with live video threats and Ukrainian-nationalist speeches to get rid of Russians in Ukraine, if I lived in Crimea I would be calling out to the motherland for help as well.
If you have any more of your "logic" to show me, I welcome it by all means. I know that by speaking my opinion here in America and amongst the English forums I draw the ire of all of the "international community."
I welcome that. I welcome the risks that come with free speech like this.
I await your response.
Until then, I apologize for the hot-bloodedness of my speech and the offense it may have caused any of you who read my speech,
Sincerely, Dmitri Chuikov (axINVICTUSxa)

@axINVICTUSxa
I thank you for your perspective.
I know from many discussions with a good friend of mine from college (she is half russian half sri lankan who grew up there and now lives in Russia again) that what is reported and what is seen on the other side can be quite different.
I remember many discussions when the hunt for WMD's was on and she made the case very clear how things were most likely being slanted. We also had many discussions about how she thought the US would be before she came to school over there.
I know some in the American media have made similar points about Crimea but they have been drowned out by Putin is crazy / testing Obama etc rhetoric.
That said - the move to just seize territory in a foreign country will always go against international law - now what the actual repercussions will be? who knows.
A new Cold War era wont help anybody though imo
