By your logic Britain should be allowed to barge into the US and claim it back by force? But seriously why does any individual person give a **** what bit of land their country is made up of, we should just lock down all land in it's current names and leave it at that, if some ponse calling themselves a leader decides they want more money/power/resources/land they should be ignored & if they try it a second time should just be shot by their own people who should really know better than not to question a politician. |

What is really happening - I thought most stuff was being really targeted. I kind of tuned out the last couple of days because most of the news has been about the missing plane.
Has there been blocking of network traffic or forcing companies to close / bar existing services?
I thought the plan was to hurt the political and corporate elite and not just that sector but specifically the ones close to Putin

I wouldn't worry. As long as people don't call each other idiots for having different views I think this conversation can be quite healthy. I, for one, am very interested in this. Everybody I meet says "I dont want to talk about it" and I am a bit happy that I can finally see what people have to say about it.

You really believe that ???
Or by dissolved you mean spread thin in many conflict areas?
And I dont think Obama is stupid enough to go to war when the precedent has already been set that they dont go head to head. Its basically proxy war fighting.
There was a talking head who laid out all the incursions since world war 2 by Soviet Union and then Russia and no US President used force to combat it.

Which is why they won't. China wouldn't want a winner, because there's tons of money to be made by placing nice to both sides. US and China first ladies just spent the day playing ping-pong together, for cryin' out loud.
I'm sure China will be having pleasant phone calls with Putin in the near future, too.
Their foreign policy is essentially: "Okay, everybody, just calm the hell down and stop screwing with our economic plans."

For the first question, it would be the same if America was attempting to annex Cuba (which we aren't).
The Rus people trace their heritage to the area around Kiev, I want to say the Rus enter the written record around 800-850. The are very deep cultural/political connections between Russia and the Ukraine.
The only similarity between Russia/Ukraine and US/Cuba is the proximity they have to one another (and the use of military bases I guess). |

I can *sort of* understand why Putin would want to annex Crimea, although even when you WANT to do something, if international law states that it's not allowed, then that should be the end of the line. When a country and its president chooses to defy international law, there should be actions taken in response.
And if Russia even tries to annex other cities, it will more than likely immediately lead to war. Hopefully Putin isn't that delusional, but based on what he has done so far, anything is possible at this point.

As far as I know that officer was killed by an agent provokateur, as was a russian soldier in the same incident.
This is not a black and white crisis, it's many shades of gray, especcially on the ukrainian side. There are the people, who just wanted to be part of the EU, to gain better standard of living, and maybe getting help against the rampant corruption in the ukraine. But there are also right wing extremists who want nothing but revenge against russia. And obviously the corrupt politicians caste.
Problem is, if this goes unchallanged, Putin might get more interest in other former CCCP territory.

Russia has every right to be in Crimea. Russian majority, strong cultural ties, and the Crimeans even overwhelmingly voted to be annexed by Russia. Western propoganda is nothing but Western propoganda. Take a look at some videos of what really happened during the riots in Kiev, Ukraine. Riot police forming defensive lines while the protestors throw Molotov cocktails at them, beat them with clubs and metal poles, even threatening to run a bulldozer through one police line. They were even destroying the roads to use their bricks as projectiles to throw at the riot police. Are these protestors civilized people we want in a newly installed government? And don't forget that this was a coup d'+¬tat which is technically illegal under the UN charter and the new government is a "government of the victors," not a democratically chosen government. Russian people in Ukraine have every right to ask Russia for help. And the West has absolutely no right to tell Russia otherwise.
You are correct about Iraq, however you are wrong about Afghanistan( the taliban were protecting bin laden and 911 was his fault). Libya and Syria?, The US has not invaded Libya or Syria. If Crimea wants to join Russia, I say let them. Most of them are ethnic Russians anyway. As far as the Russian players, why on earth would folks punish gamers of any country just because their governments are stupid? Both the West and the East governments are quite capable of doing stupid things. Innocent civilians that had nothing to do with their governments being ********, should not be punished.
