Jitsu wa Watashi wa (Actually, I Am...)
6/10
Comedy/Supernatural/Romance/Harem
Plot: Asahi is a high school student that has earned the nickname "Leaky Basket" due to his inability to hide things from others. Unlucky in love up to this point in life--memorably being "pre-rejected" before he could confess his love to a girl the previous year--Asahi works up the courage to make a confession to Yuoko, a mysterious classmate that always gets to school early and leaves late and rarely talks to other people. As luck would have it, when Asahi goes to talk to Yuoko he stumbles upon her amazing secret...a secret that, if it was ever revealed, would mean that Yuoko's school life would be over. Begging Yuoko to stay in school, Asahi promises to keep her secret safe...and asks if Yuoko would like to be his friend. From here on out, Asahi's life spins wildly out of control as monsters, aliens, gods and demons all begin to meddle in his affairs...and his love life!
Theme: Truth and consequences.
A decent little show, clocking in at 13 episodes. It's a romantic comedy at heart, so it shouldn't be taken very seriously; Asahi is a loveable loser that finds himself caught up in all of the madness going on around him while trying desperately to establish a relationship with Yuoko. The show clings to the genre character trope checklist (innocent damsel-in-distress, tsundere, childhood friend and vixen) while at the same time giving them each a "secret" that makes them unique and serves as the catalyst for drawing them to Asahi. Again, it's fairly basic stuff but by no means bad.
Where the show stumbles is the "winning" candidate; though it's no secret who Asahi is pining for, the show falls into the trap of having the featured pair remain oblivious to the other's feelings until the very end. Unfortunately, this leads to the other characters getting the chance to realize their own feelings for Asahi first and the viewer can't help but be sympathetic towards them. So even though you have the clich+¬d "open ending" staple of harem shows, it's fairly obvious that Asahi has made his choice and you can't help but feel as though it was the wrong one.
Animation is poor. Rather, the characters look down-right odd: the eyes are very weird and at times it looks as though characters are looking in different directions than who they're talking to. That being the case, I can't really go so far as to say that any of the characters rise above "cute" status and even then, only a couple can reach that standard. Music is dull and the opening/ending themes are total crap.
Verdict: A decent romantic comedy, but nothing more. Worth adding to your queue if you're running out of stuff to watch.
For the Record: Team Nagisa.

Re-wind Review:
Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? (Invaders of the Rokujouma)
Original score -- 8/10 Updated score --7/10
When is a harem anime NOT a harem anime? I think it's a bit of a stretch to call this one a harem show, if for no reason other than the fact that the MC only expresses a romantic interest in one girl; a girl that can't even be counted as a member of the harem. Also bucking the norm, it isn't the MC that brings the harem together, but rather the main plot point of the show (the apartment) that does so. It's also refreshing to see the MC reflect back on the events that have lead to his current reality with a sense of warm nostalgia, as he's truly glad to have met the girls that now dominate his life and honestly cares about them as friends and not sex objects.
Watching it again, I'm actually satisfied with the relatively open ending; though the issue of who will get control over the apartment isn't decided, it doesn't need to be. Sanae has found acceptance as a ghost and enjoys sharing the apartment with Koutarou and company; Koutarou hints that he'd be willing to become a servant of Tulip (which is a requirement for her to control the apartment) while she clearly wants to spend more time around her "knight"; Yurika has been recognized as being something more than a cosplayer (even if Koutarou can't remember why) and Kiriha has discovered a peaceful means of completing her mission of invasion. In effect, all characters involved are generally happy with the impasse as it means they can all remain together.
Where the show stumbles is the stereotypical handling of "each character gets a storyline to show why you should care about them" and the fact that the show only hints at what makes Koutarou special--he obviously possesses some sort of unique abilities and, judging by what happens with the girls/the comments they make, it seems as though it's no coincidence that they've all come together around him...and this says nothing of the mysterious woman that Koutarou meets at the start of the show (and her link to Harumi.)
All in all, it's no classic by any means but it does remain highly entertaining and is refreshing take on the harem genre. Have to admit that Sanae became my favorite character with the second viewing.

If anyone can help me out by putting together a decent banner/logo/background it would be pretty major. I plan to get a real character design to get our own female anime character as our representative, I'm just waiting on more content. Guess who just lost a subscriber lol sorry, the more I look at it the less it seems to fit, and since this is what people see when they first come to find out more I think the channel needs to put a stronger foot forward to the match the quality I'm attempting with the videos. The channel gets hit for around 50 - 100 different people a day right now and it's not even a week old. I do appreciate the help, I just need something a bit more professional looking to match the content. EDIT: If you want to give it another shot I'd be more then just willing to try it out, I'm just constantly looking to improve. And of course proper credit will be given.
That was sarcasm.
I honestly don't care, I literally threw that thing together in 15 minutes with zero learning investment.

Re-wind Review:
Mayo Chiki!
Original score -- n/a Updated score -- 6/10
Plot: Sakamachi is your typical high school guy that, as a result of years of being a human punching/training bag for his Pro Wrestler mother and martial arts-obsessed little sister, has developed a severe case of gynophobia. Consequently, physical contact with girls causes severe nose bleeds and prolonged exposure can lead to fainting...or worse! Unfortunately for Sakamachi, a trip to a little-used bathroom at school results in him discovering a massive secret: the immensely popular butler Subaru Konoe is actually a woman in disguise! If Konoe's secret is revealed she'll no longer be able to serve as her dear friend Suzutsuki's butler, so Suzutsuki makes a deal with Sakamachi (that he can't refuse): she'll help cure him of his gynophobia in exchange for keeping Konoe's secret...
Theme: Homosexuality and gender identity.
This one hurt. I remember greatly enjoying this show almost a year ago when I was still relatively inexperienced with anime. But this time around, my enjoyment of the show fizzled out towards the end. The first half of the show shines as Sakamachi plays the role of oft put-upon MC that is constantly tormented by Suzutsuki's schemes that invariably place him and Konoe in potentially embarrassing situations...and yet you can sense the underlying potential of Sakamachi's and Konoe's relationship developing into a great romance story. Unfortunately, the second half of the show takes a nosedive as the show makes a shift towards a more generic harem comedy as Sakamachi finds himself involved with more and more girls (along with all of the requisite misunderstandings/accidents that interfere with his relationship with Konoe) and he becomes little more than an oblivious idiot that can't take advantage of the situations presented to him.
It was during my second viewing that I identified the problem: Suzutsuki. For the first half of the show, she's presented as something of a benevolent antagonist that's constantly stirring up trouble for her own amusement (while also showing how much she cares for Konoe.) It's when the story begins to imply that she might be developing feelings for Sakamachi that she loses interest as a character and moves closer to becoming more of a tsundere trope character. As long as her motives are in doubt, she's wonderful; take that aspect away from her (and make her more one-dimensional) and she becomes little more than a tool to advance the plot.
The show ends on a rather flat note. Actually, let me rephrase that. The final storyline falls flat; the actual show throws in a completely unnecessary thirteenth episode that serves no purpose other than to convert one recurring character into a potential love interest. The culmination of Sakamachi and Konoe's feelings for each other amounts to little more than, "we actually like each other, so let's maybe be together in the future." Even worse, the climax of their story feels incredibly rushed.
Animation is average. Konoe is pretty cute but there's no standout characters. Music is non-distinct. Tons of ecchi humor thrown about while the show follows in the footsteps of B Gata H Kei by restricting actual nudity to a brief glimpse (thankfully, she's cute) towards the end of the show.
Verdict: Watchable. A great first half of the show is nearly ruined by a generic decent into harem-ness in the second half. A shame, really, as this had the potential to be a truly great romance story.

Re-wind Review:
Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara (If Her Flag Breaks)
Original score -- 8/10 Updated score -- 7/10
Despite the overall poor quality of the animation and the ugly characters, I still enjoyed this show. Score is slightly lower this time around as I realized just how much of the first half of the show is basic filler (i.e. the coming together of the harem.) The second half, however, does an excellent job of tying everything together and pulling off the "What would happen if you crossed a harem show with the Matrix?" It's still a great concept at heart, and a few characters (particularly Megumu) are highly entertaining. Comedy attempts remain largely hit-or-miss.

Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers
8/10
Romance/Harem/School Life
Plot: Shingo is in his second year of high school and finds himself as part of an experiment--the integration of his old school with that of a prestigious all-girls academy. Things get off to a rocky start as the most popular girl in school--whom Shingo and his younger sister previously met the day before--publicly declares her opposition to the new students (particularly the boys.) As Shingo works diligently at trying to win support for his fellow students taking part in the experiment, he gradually surrounds himself with a group of girls and dives head-first into matters of school, clubs and love...
Theme: Loving and letting go.
A surprisingly good anime based on an eroge, MS:TCoL does a solid job of actually telling a story without breaking it down into the usual "focus on one character at a time" pacing; you get the sense that time is flowing in one direction and that the various events are running in concert. Shingo is a fairly generic MC in that he is, by nature, a good person and only wants to help those around him. It's for this very reason that his harem is created. What's interesting about this show is that his harem comes together without any initial romantic overtones (indeed, two characters can be described as tsundere) and allows the relationships to develop as a result of Shingo's actions in a gradual (if predictable) process.
A highlight of the show is the fact that Shingo makes his decision of who he wants to be with in episode 10, which allows for two episodes of closure. The show does an incredible job of showing the impact his decision has on the other candidates, with one in particular being absolutely devasted (a shame as she became my favorite candidate.) Not only that, the final episodes also allow for the girls to further come together as a group of friends to comfort and console each other as they try to move forward with their lives (see: Theme.)
Main criticism would be the slow start, as things don't really pick up until the fourth episode when the first potential romantic relationship kicks off. It's also curious to see how one character grows closer to Shingo but then seems to hit a brick wall, with no further advancement in her feelings as the story turns it's attention to others.
Animation is decent with generally cute characters but no one really stands out. Music is functional. Light ecchi humor sprinkled here and there and a few nipples pop up/out, but it's not a dirty show by any means.
Verdict: A rare harem show that not only has the MC make a clear choice but also stays away from comedy. Instead, you have a harem romance that is alternately heartwarming and bittersweet. Make it through the slow start and you'll be well rewarded.
For the Record: Team *heartbroken harem candidate*

There should be a girl playing a guitar. I don't mean the ED either, I mean toward the end of the episode.
So time for the "I Just Watched A Bunch of First Episodes And I'll Tell You About Them" Showcase!!!!!!!!
Yuru Yuri S3: It's Yuru Yuri, 'nuff said.
Lance N' Masques: Our MC is a boy who has "White Knight Syndrome" which basically boils down to he has to help girls in distress. He ends up saving a young girl (6), and learns she lives in a mansion all by herself. This is the one I'm feeling most optimistic about. I'm excited to watch the relationship develop between the MC, and the loli.
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid: A girl gets transported to an island of some sort where she's attacked. Then, another girl shows up, and saves her. Think Soul Eater, except all girls, and they only change into weapon form if they get aroused. Ecchi to the extreme. It wasn't very good, but I'll continue watching it because yuri ecchi.
Beautiful Bones - Sakurako's Investigation: What I'd describe as a crime drama, except in anime form. A boy, and his older friend lady (I don't even know how to describe her), are basically just going to solve crimes through the power of forensic science. I'm really up on this one too. It's fresh (for an anime), and it seems like I could learn a lot.
Anti-Magic Academy: The 35th Test Platoon: The 35th Test Platoon, a squad of four inquisitors-in-training, bust witches, and people dealing in illegal trading of magical items. They work for an academy that uh.... Trains inquisitors. Very clich+¬, and very predictable. It's nothing special, but it handles the clich+¬s well enough, and has an interesting enough setting that I'm willing to give it a few more tries.
Hackadoll: The Animation: Seven minute episodes. The Hackadolls, 3 girls who are supposed to make internet searching easier, are sent out to help people...... To hilarious results. A good one, and easy to watch at only 7 minutes.
Komori-San Can't Decline: Two minute episodes. Amusing enough, and the premise is all in the title. Will keep watching.
Hakone-Chan: Another short series. Like three minute episodes. Fairly predictable. Dropped
JK-MESHI: Might as well be watching a flash animation. Dropped

This moe video will pretty cool, but I'm losing track on doing actual reviews!~!~!~!~
I also want to make AMV's to learn transitions better, there's some neat tricks you can use to make it look like you have a decent editor, lol. |

I've decided on 2 new reviews:
First up, ALDNOAH ZERO Season 1 - expect lots of trolling.
Second is between 2 shows, or maybe i'll make a duet review of Moe now vs Moe then. But Azumanga opened my eyes up to how honestly far moe shows have come. But I want to review a moe show.
EDIT: Brain storm idea: how about a timeline of moe shows and there evolution? |

Adnoah Zero -
Earth, 1972, ancient alien technology was discovered on the moon, enabling man to travel to Mars quickly and easily, they dub this discovered technology, Hypergate, and begin colonizing Mars in haste.
During the colonization more alien technology was discovered, rapidly improving technologyGǪ This leads to the founding of the Vers Empire, who monopolized the new technology and Mars for itself. This does not include technology to cultivate with, leaving Mars still a dry and dead planet with traces of water under the surface.
in 1999, Vers, jealous of Earths natural resources, declares war and launches an attack on the Moon, leading to splintering the moon into several pieces and sending them crashing into the earth in an event called HeavenGÇÖs Fall. Destroying the Hypergate.
This trapped the Vers forces on the Moon, isolating them from Mars. They construct massive fortresses in space, and decide to sit there after a truce with Earth.
ThereGÇÖs so many holes in this setting youGÇÖd of thought it walked infront of a mini-gun. How did the invading Vers survive without food or water being cut off from Mars? How did Mars even get food or water when their technology didnGÇÖt enable them to create either? How did Mars turn into an inhabitable planet in less then 30 years? Why do these modern humans believe technology = god hood. WouldnGÇÖt of Earth only of sent itGÇÖs best and brightest to make colonization on Mars easier and better? Why is the princess even with the Knights if theyGÇÖre cut off from Mars in all ways but communication? What happen to EarthGÇÖs technology? We had an army on the moon? How come we didnGÇÖt have one in Mars? late 1900GÇÖs, I highly doubt countries would of unified to colonize Mars together. And we let Vers control space and moon without issue??
How were they planning on mining earth for resources when they themselves canGÇÖt return to Mars? How come Earth never tells Vers they didnGÇÖt do it? DidnGÇÖt Vers choose to advance there technology over finding ways to cultivate themselves? Air and Water can both be produced and created, youGÇÖre saying they can manipulate gravity and particles, but canGÇÖt mix H2O?
And after episode 1, more questions will come flooding in. if the Princess survive, where was she, and how come no one else knew that a double was used in her entourage? Why was she unable to contact her own people when she was safely somewhere else, and how did she end up on the streets in disguise if she was suppose to be sick from gravities influence?
Reviews on this show praise it for itGÇÖs political and interesting setting backed by a well thought out plot. Only finding problems with the MCGÇÖs emotionless attitude or one of the characters wasnGÇÖt good enough for them or didnGÇÖt realistically behave as they wantedGǪ.
ItGÇÖs time to insert a little truth about this show: Nothing is realistic about this show. YouGÇÖd need to pretend that the average human has the IQ of mud. A group of high schoolers defeat mechs destroying entire countries, simply by using there head and environment a little. Now, thatGÇÖs good fun to watch, certainly, but once you break it down to try to understand the why you start to see problems. Creating a purposefully stupid world to make your MC seem relevant is always a mistake. And thatGÇÖs exactly what this show does. Earth is borderline ********, making every possible wrong call to make things worse, or make sure to make all the wrong calls so the show can get the tragedies it wants. All the while trying to make Earth seem as overly confident as we honestly believe ourselves, even though itGÇÖs very much aware that Vers technology is vastly superior, and has known from the creation of that empire.
LetGÇÖs step away from the setting, for a moment. How are the characters?

The three MCGÇÖs are Slaine, Inaho, and the Princess Asylum (a well suited name, considering her situation, lmao).
Inaho is the shows main MC - he progress all the action and solves all the problems.
Slain is tithe second MC - he progresses the political side of the show, showing the darker side of people and the plot. Because heGÇÖs a martian with earth lineage we get to see a very unique perspective from a Martien who symphotizes with Earth, rather then the constant GÇ£Terran scumGÇ¥ we see from everyone else. Even though heGÇÖs treated like scum, he becomes fiercely loyal to the Princess and Mars.
Princess Asselyum - sheGÇÖs the contrast to SlaineGÇÖs character, where Slaine is Earthborn now living as a Martian, sheGÇÖs a Martian nobility now living among earth*ians?* And she too, becomes fiercely loyal to her new companions, fighting a long side with them and risking her own life.
Then thereGÇÖs Areash, Rayet - crazy martian girl who lost her father for being a treacherous prick
Mario Kouichirou Marito - the character with the most potential that is never utilized. HeGÇÖs going through intense dramatic disorder over the loss of his friend during HeavenGÇÖs Fall - he could of been the GÇÿsenseiGÇÖ to the students, instead, heGÇÖs a useless bum most the show.
Craftman, calm - whose only job is to support InahoGÇÖs bad-assery
Kaizuki Yuki - Older sister to Inaho, she actually sets the shows pace, often creating the atsmosphere the show continues on with. SheGÇÖs possibly my favorite character in the show, althought they flesh her out as much as they fleshed out every other character who tied 10 seconds into the show.
And then the villain himself, Saazbaum, who ties all the events together and attempts to make the show seem coherent. HeGÇÖs a dark intellectual type, and heGÇÖs not actually a villain, rather then a man who sees a problem and no real solution. HeGÇÖs the best character by far in the show.
And the rest of the cast, even the ones with fleshed out background, are pretty much completely unimportant, more versions of Craftsman, Calm. *IGÇÖll flesh this out more later*
For the most part Characters themselves are honestly fine, aside from the MC being emotionless which has itGÇÖs own qualities, itGÇÖs actually how the characters grow and come to terms with themselves and others that really made this show enjoyable for me. Two characters carry the show in this regard, Slaine and the Princess.
Slain himself is the real heart of the show. Remaining fiercely loyal to his one time savior, Princess Assylum, heGÇÖs treated like scum and dirt by the rest of Martian society, but he takes it all if it means he can support his princess. ItGÇÖs through this ideology that he comes out of his shell as a character, quickly going from something closer to a slave into his own man that has earned the respect of the people around him. ItGÇÖs almost fulfilling to watch.
And likewise, the princess goes through a very opposite experience, but just as gratifying. Going from being accepted to be unsure of her surroundings, then finding herself again and choosing her new comrades to fight a long side as she realizes her notions and ideas of the things around her were inaccurate.
Watching these two characters grow is almost exactly why I choose anime as my main form of media enjoyment. You donGÇÖt get growth like this anywhere else, and itGÇÖs through the trouble and tribulations these two face that the show builds something to stand upon, because itGÇÖs weak settings cracks grow bigger the longer the show goes on.
But two characters donGÇÖt make a show, and the rest of the cast is unworthy of mention. Or not fleshed out enough to notice them. ItGÇÖs a shame too, because character design was pretty good.

Found out they can transport between Mars and earth and the moon - the show just never mentions it but once at the very very very start.
it's still an untouched yet important aspect of the show that's at the very core of all actions being taken, sloppy. |
