Does it have a war ridden backstory, riveting plot, or mindless use of giant nude people that mindlessly chew on human victims forced to survive in a half steampunk half medieval society. (Sorry major AoT fan I had to put this in here)
If you could give a brief synopsis on Madoka Magica that'd be great

Not what you expect.
Go in with whatever preconceived notions you have and finish the damn show.

(Sorry major AoT fan I had to put this in here) If you could give a brief synopsis on Madoka Magica that'd be great Ah, I could talk about Madoka Magica vs AoT for days.
You see, Madoka Magica is a magical girl anime that takes the genre and smashes it in the face. Completely redefining how you approach anime in general. What you see isn't what you'll get. The staff from Shaft involved in it's productions were the same people who did Hidmari Sketch which is a very slow slice of life shows about cute girls doing cute things.
But Madoka Magica is the exact opposite, completely story line driven with not a moment wasted in progressing this fast-paced plot. The girls moe character design serve to contradict the stories very dark nature. Not a moment is wasted in the plot continuing the story and mind-******* you endlessly.
Where as AoT is what you see is what you get. Though AoT does a magnificent job in constantly hiring the bar and creating suspense, it fails at creating proper character motivation or growth. So many characters left high, no growth, one dimensional, existing for no purpose other then to push an atmosphere. There's a lot of skipped scenes and untold story. And it's pretty easy to see why when you google the people behind the show - they didn't expect it to succeed, and was designed specifically with the idea of promoting the manga.
It took them by shock how popular the show became, and if they had another shot at it we'd probably get much better story. AoT focus's too much on atmosphere and the gravity of issues rather then the individual points that all shows are built upon - the characters.
But because of how intense AoT is a lot of the holes in the story get glossed over. AoT is damn exciting. But so is Madoka Magica, and in MM I actually know and care about the characters, lol.
Madoka Magica does what AoT either refuses or couldn't do - it fills you in on everything without letting you know there's more to look for. |

also i decided im gonna watch Hunter x Hunter or maybe not... ive heard people say its really good ect but the picture puts me off kinda... would you recommend it? Ignore the art, and you'll be fine. It's certainly an interesting kind of shounen with a lot more focus on the characters, and story than on the action. I'll be starting the third season (hopefully) soon.
AoT = Good. I wasn't really a big AoT fanatic though. I could certainly enjoy the action, but that's about all I could enjoy. Madoka Magica = Extraordinary. Especially that third movie.
Non Non Biyori Repeat: Well, that's it for the second season. I must say, that this right here is quite possibly the greatest slice of life in history. For one, you see slice of life, and that's exactly what you get. No dumb drama. No out-of-left-field supernatural elements. No strained romance plot. Just these girls living in the country being hella funny, and hella enjoyable.
That's the shows strongest point. The characters are all very real, and you it's easy to start thinking of them as real people. The interactions between them really shine. Honestly, you could take the worst character from this show, and it'd probably be better than the best character from 90% of other shows.
The atmosphere also holds up as one of the greatest of all time. Japan's country side is portrayed as so relaxing. You can't help but start relaxing while watching this show. Not to mention the artists do a phenomenal job on the scenery as well as the characters.
My only critique is that a few of the scenes might be held out too long.
Would I Recommend This to Others: Yes Who Would I Recommend it to: Literally everyone. This will get you hooked on slice of life. I'd say that time you watch anime you should end with an episode of Non Non just to bring you down to relaxed after an intense session.

Super Power/Romance/School Life
Plot: 15 year-old Yu possesses the unique ability to control someone else's body for five seconds at a time. Taking advantage of this fact, he cheats his way through testing to get the best scores and enter a prestigious high school; unfortunately for Yu, his tactics are exposed by Nao, the student council president of another school, who then forces Yu (and his little sister, Ayumi) to enroll at her school, where they will be surrounded and protected by others students that have or will possess unique abilities in the future. As Yu learns more about how and why the abilities appear, he must confront danger, tragedy and the reawakening of a forgotten past...
Theme: With great power comes great responsibility.
This show was a delightful surprise. Yu was a surprisingly likeable MC that starts off as a bit of a pretentious d*ck until he meets (and is one-upped) by Nao. The first five episodes are fairly light-hearted and you get a sense of the show being little more than a high school romance show...but all of that changes with episode six. It's at this point that the show drops the pretense of "normal everyday life with super powers thrown in" and starts to tackle the issue of the consequences for using such abilities, and things can get very dark at times. Through it all, however, Yu is surrounded by a wonderful cast of characters: Nao is a wonderful female lead that is both strong and vulnerable, beautiful but never treated as a sex object, intelligent and witty. She is the heart of the show. Jojiro is the dependable male comic relief, and Yusa is a wonderfully tragic idol. Ayumi makes for a great little sister without all of the brother complex issues that typically pop up in anime.
My only real complaint with the show is the final episode: way too much happens in such a short period of time as to be unbelievable, and serves as too much of a Deus Ex Machina to force an ending to the story. Honestly, the happenings of episode 13 easily could have been used to cover an entire second season of the show.
Animation is solid and Nao makes for a beautiful character. Yu's actually a pretty handsome MC (as the show points out several times.) Music is great and plays a major part in the show. No real ecchi moments in the show aside from one bath tub scene, but even then no nudity is shown.
Verdict: Definitely watch. Yu and Nao have a wonderful chemistry between them that develops steadily over the course of the first half of the show, and the second half is all about trying to figure out what's going on as Yu tries to protect those around him.
Mike Patton is the greatest singer in music. Proof

Probably a mistake, considering how much I enjoyed Yuru Yuri and Lucky Star. It even has the Yuri under-tones lol okay im actually jumping onto lucky star right now... I SHALL LEAVE NOTHING UNWATCHED!!! it was entertaining but Nichijou is far suprioior i my opinion... It was funny the whole way through and some sad parts but its something you can see as funny no matter what and you should watch it if you haven't. AoT i gotta watch I already saw eps 18-20 and 2 before those or after (16-17 or 22-23) and magical girls ive seen 1 dubbed ep on tv dont even know what ep but i will watch it eventually subbed of course.. anyway im gonna download eps 8-13 of Kimi and watch it on the TV while finishing lucky start.. As for SAO its a great anime to start with but very different overall opinion on the anime from viewer to viewer. You either hate it or love it pretty much, i for one loved it as it was like my 2nd or 3rd anime i think first was clannad and i might as well share how i got into anime... i saw some hentai that was a 1ep one but dudeeee i pulled up my pants 5mins in and was there for the plot and wanted more and a few google searches later i found clannad and watched that and cried my eyes out and i guess i never knew i could react like that to a anime and i just had to have more and was hooked pretty much... Nichijou takes epic out of no where to a whole new level.
We need more shows like those. Yuru Yuri, Nyon, and the others are fine, but Ordinary Life aka Nichijou was just plain epic. |

by traditional, do you mean by japanese standards, or american? Since you listed Naruto and DBZ on one side, i'll assume you mean Jap, in which you'd be correct for myself, for the most part.
I do adore Fairy Tail. And who could hate darker then black.
But I have issues with long standing shows who don't take the time to fill in the holes in there plots. And on that regard i give One Piece props - but it's too ugly for me. I gave it 100 episodes and dropped it due to that sole reason, and I'm probably a terrible person for it.
DBZ i'm looking forward to the newer episodes. But i wish they'd dub it super quick, the sub counter-parts make the show sound like a joke.
as for Naruto.... love the Ninja Storm series for the story telling on the story - takes out the fillers, gets right to the juicy part. And in that formula - Naruto is a fantastic story.
But as an anime, it's boggled down by poor director choices and more fillers then my plate could handle.
Bleach suffered a worse fate.
and Pokemon isn't worth talking about as a show. There's Pokemon season 1 - then everything else. I suggest checking out Pokemon Origins for a better pokemon experience :3 |

Never would watch the whole series of any of them big long going anime i would rather 'support' high quality short running animes by watching them free online like a baka but what am i meant to do buy it? sure ill just have to get a job oh that will use all my spare time.. oh look i cant watch anime no more ;-; lol see what im getting at lol i wouldnt pay for anime unless ive seen it already and want a hard copy and i would rather by merchandise than a hard copy of the anime. man my posts are pure crap sometimes not even gonna proof read this one Beyblades was ******* cool, just like medabots.
But both shows had the same issue and didn't know when to quit. |

We need more shows like those. Yuru Yuri, Nyon, and the others are fine, but Ordinary Life aka Nichijou was just plain epic.
.........Now I need to watch Nichijou. Let's see if it can get better than Yuyushiki. It really is a toss up between Yuru Yuri, and Yuyushiki in terms of "cute girls doing cute things" most epic level of awesomeness. Yuru Yuri because the random crazy humor is just so great. (Go! Go! Sawako!!!) Yuyushiki because it is the dirtiest thing I've ever seen. This is coming from a guy who's seen hentai.

Second is http://www.anime-planet.com/anime/k-on
Third being http://www.anime-planet.com/anime/ikoku-meiro-no-croisee |

Pretty much everything Shaft does is either going to be perverted or morally indecent in some way. lol
If you guys haven't seen Sayanora Sensei - do so now. Think WW2 comedy mixed with crazy art and direction. |
