I did some cleanup. Please respect the others, no matter who they are. If you are not interested in this matter, do not post here. If you don't know who Sean Smith (Vile Rat) was, please read the first post. Don't mess around with something like that. Thank you. |

Thanks GM Unicorn, i appreciate this post a lot as i'm sure others do.
For those mentioning European soldiers etc, I'm English, Typically i'm anti american when it comes to politics and things like that but this was a little close to home for me as i was talking to last night before this happened.
As people have mentioned, VR was a non-combatant and this shouldn't have happened. |

It could be a dropsuit that lets you do less damage while shooting teammates. Or have no weapon slots and an integrated cloak. |

I like the idea, however this would probably be the only thing in game that I would be willing to spend real money on, and I wouldn't want to buy AUR for it, there would surely be left overs. I say make it a BPO, with a decent price-tag like $5 or $10, and let people purchase it with their debit/credit cards.

Ha-ha. Been a fan since I was kid and my grandfather and I got a copy of Fallout back in 97'-98'. Wasteland is fantastic too though. Also I reccomend watching the 1975 movie -- A Boy and His Dog -- you will not regret it.
When a gamer dies though you can attest that his spirit will live on. We gamers live on extra lives. Ha-ha. Still somewhere in whatever faith your belief's fall into; you can rest assured he will not be forgotten, and will live on. I'd certainly have a drink in his name tonight, but my medication prohibits any consumption of alchohol. Sucks to be sure.. Football season has kicked off, and I'm stuck unable to drink. I'm a dry country. Well I'm sure, Sean, will certainly be having a few drinks wherever he is.

I support this. I can see how some people think this should be done for everyone or no one, I know he's not the first Eve player to be lost on that side of the world, but I think he did have more of an impact (on the game) than most. Those that have been over there also know that not everyone who deserves to be recognized get the credit they deserve, but the effort is made to remember those that make an extraordinary impact.
I didn't know VR, only by reputation, but from the outpouring of posts, the threadnaughts springing up, even the "real world" news picking up on him being a gamer, I'd say he made an unusual impact that should be recognized in some way. I think the legal/moral roadblocks CCP is likely to encounter make having an AUR fundraiser unlikely, I think they'd be better off and we'd be more likely to get this pushed through if it were a simple item, something everyone can use I think would be fitting. If you do want to donate, it looks like there is a fundraiser going up already.

As a recent veteran of all these wars in the Middle East. From what I have read about this man was that he was a diplomatic guy, and this is definitely the time for diplomacy.
I can't wait till the only wars we fight against each other are only in video games. We as an Human race needs to learn to care for one another. |

I'm sorry but I do not like the idea of a Dropsuit being made in his name. I don't want to see players running around being shot at by me as they are wearing something that is a tribute to Sean Smith. I find that to be insulting.
The most appropriate thing to do as an alternative is to place a visible monument as a tribute to him. Preferably located in the Red Zone so that mercs won't use it as a tactical object but still close enough to be visible for anyone wanting to just salute as they pass by. |

In retrospect, I think that this tribute should either be a statue like Maken Tosch said. It can either be an installation that you can buy with Aurum to drop on your districts. Or, it can be an statue that corps/mercs can buy to put in their MQ or warbarge. |

Oh boy.. A statue to pay homage to a guy who helped shape the Eden galaxy for eight years. What interaction. Not trying to be that jerk, but seriously considering how involved the guy was making dropsuits to pay some form of homage to his interactions and helping to shape New Eden is a better way to go. He [Sean Smith] was not just a gamer. He was a hardcore gamer who played EVE. How is making dropsuits to pay homage on our end in anyway insulting? Making a statue in my opinion that has in no way any interaction and just sits there would be insulting. I cannot speak for the guy, or his family, but he was a dedicated gamer. A lot of people knew him in-game, and out. He probably even used his real world skills and experience to his advantage online. This sounds like a guy who wouldn't want to be just another statue taking up space. He'd want to continue shaping New Eden, and playing a role in it's machinations even beyond death. Dropsuits allow that. People in EVE on capsuleer side can do whatever, but what better way to pay homage to such a person then to continue his machinations, and being inspired by his drive to shape a galaxy.
Edit:
For the record the man was a part of GoonSwarm, and had a lot of pull with them too. Just putting it out there. The guy had some sense of humor. |

It seems that the DUST community is a sight better than the EVE community...this would have turned into a flame war by now as have most of the other threads on the EVE forums for similar ideas have today.
I think this is a great idea! AUR profits going to help a charity makes it even better!
@Rorek. I don't think either idea is a bad one. CCP could easily and quickly implement a statue in his honor, one that perhaps also honors all the pod pilots and soon to be drop soldiers that have passed on. It would be easier to implement than drop suits. But the drop suits are a really good idea. |

EDIT:Removing my opinion because in hindsight, as someone else said earlier, i think it's best to leave the decision to CCP. Maybe just post here if you support "something" being done, not necessarily throwing your idea in the ring. I'm sure if CCP chooses to do something it will be appropriate. |

Well whatever does come of it CCP should make sure he's not forgotten. New Eden is a breathing galaxy -- Elbeit digitally breathing -- the man did a lot even though he had strong ties to GoonSwarm, the man should be remembered for his large role. I just feel someone like that should be immortalized in a strong way that represents the humor, but also continues in what diplomats do best continuing their machinations and intergal plans and what GoonSwarm does best. Sending waves of people relentlessly to win at all costs. Atleast that is a gross example, but pretty accurate nonetheless from what I have read about the GS. As long as the community is backing it and the proceeds go to a good cause, education (he was a diplomat) or his family, or some other cause we're good I suppose. I was not trying be a jerk, but really the man did a lot and every article has made that clear. |
