It seems that the DUST community is a sight better than the EVE community...this would have turned into a flame war by now as have most of the other threads on the EVE forums for similar ideas have today.
I think this is a great idea! AUR profits going to help a charity makes it even better!
@Rorek. I don't think either idea is a bad one. CCP could easily and quickly implement a statue in his honor, one that perhaps also honors all the pod pilots and soon to be drop soldiers that have passed on. It would be easier to implement than drop suits. But the drop suits are a really good idea. |

It would be easier to implement than drop suits. But the drop suits are a really good idea. Well whatever does come of it CCP should make sure he's not forgotten. New Eden is a breathing galaxy -- Elbeit digitally breathing -- the man did a lot even though he had strong ties to GoonSwarm, the man should be remembered for his large role. I just feel someone like that should be immortalized in a strong way that represents the humor, but also continues in what diplomats do best continuing their machinations and intergal plans and what GoonSwarm does best. Sending waves of people relentlessly to win at all costs. Atleast that is a gross example, but pretty accurate nonetheless from what I have read about the GS. As long as the community is backing it and the proceeds go to a good cause, education (he was a diplomat) or his family, or some other cause we're good I suppose. I was not trying be a jerk, but really the man did a lot and every article has made that clear. At least from the EVE community the point being voiced a lot is that while he did do a lot of good for EVE, others that have passed should be remembered too. I agree with you whole heartedly and don't think you were being a jerk at all. I was just pointing out that while one idea may be better than the others...it does not mean both or all cannot be done for a collaborated better benefit.
Honestly I have been trying all day to keep his ties to GSF out of any comments I have made. I hate GSF with a passion...but only the characters and roles played in the game...not the people behind them. A game is after all...a game. Vile Rat may have been GSF for life but he did a lot for EVE.
After reading some of the other posts above on this page I do agree that whatever CCP does will be appropriate. Although I think throwing in idea's isn't a bad thing...who knows? Maybe they didn't think of that! Either way...there will likely be a memorial and a moment of silence at next years FanFest as well.
Believe it or not...even though I did not know him personally...this has struck me today in a way I did not expect. The sorrow and anger I feel right now over this loss of a good man in such an insane way over such an ubsurd reason...words cannot describe.
I wish the best to his family and friends. |

Well atleast I was not being a "jerk" then. I understand though the problem with doing something like this -- and then people wanting to remember every person. That happens in real life too, and unfortunetly not everyone can be immortalized by some game item, or statue in real life. However, even if CCP does decide to not do anything the man will not be easily forgotten. That is certain to say the least either way in terms of both real life, and deep in the New Eden galaxy. The man [Sean Smith] has made a name for himself in both respects. That is a truth. Item or no item. Agreed. |

Vile Rat's wife is understandably upset by the situation but she's also very grateful of the support she's getting from our little gaming community in New Eden.
GSF hate mostly stems from the fact that GSF is all about ruining things. They do it in a very obnoxious way to boot. Without going into details I would say that GSF not only earned the rep they have but they are proud of it. Personally I try to keep my distaste of GSF separate from that of the person behind the character. A person can be the biggest **** in the world in a game but be one of the best human beings on the planet. They are not always one and the same. Its a persona
I am glad to hear that GSF is helping his family as a community. I would expect nothing less of them. If GSF sets up an account for others to donate to help his family that is secured and I can be guaranteed that it goes to his family and not anybody else then I will gladly donate.
In fact I am sure there is something out there already whether it be through EVE or a government source. Anybody know of something they mind sharing a link to? |

My suggestion would be to permanently make our fallen comrades NPCs within the game itself. Let their name live on in the game and forever be a part of the game we all love.
Another good idea. |
