I'm sorry but I do not like the idea of a Dropsuit being made in his name. I don't want to see players running around being shot at by me as they are wearing something that is a tribute to Sean Smith. I find that to be insulting.
The most appropriate thing to do as an alternative is to place a visible monument as a tribute to him. Preferably located in the Red Zone so that mercs won't use it as a tactical object but still close enough to be visible for anyone wanting to just salute as they pass by. |

@Nate
Actually CNN reported that Sean Smith died of smoke inhalation while trapped in a safe room in the consulate. But still, he did die in a near violent manner since rocket-propelled grenades and guns were used.
@Rorek
I am still firm in my stance that Sean 'Vile Rat' Smith should be remembered as a diplomat of both the real-world and that of New Eden. Even though New Eden is all about PvP, diplomacy was Smith's strong suit.
Also, technical interaction is not always a requirement. In the real world, there are plenty of memorials that don't have any interaction at all yet they are still effective in their meaning and significance. If you ever played Eve Online for any length of time and stopped by Jita 4 - Moon IV Caldari Navy Assembly Plant, you would notice by now that there is a monument (a wrecked one) that talks about an uprising or riot against the status quo (Google Jita Riots 2010). It is not very interactive at all other than just shooting at it and it never goes 'pop' but the folks in New Eden accept that because it's the message that matters, not the technical interaction the memorial brings.
@Everyone else
I have another thought. What about a holographic image of Vile Rat's avatar as a greeter for whenever I enter a corporate office? This seems more fitting considering his mastering of the corporate room. This seems One that can be bought with AURUM. I do agree with others that the proceeds gained from purchase should go either Sean's family or to a charity of his family's choosing. |

Just because you may be sad from the loss of someone you know does not mean that everyone else needs to see, or care about your loss in any way. There are MANY more relevant achievements that could warrant an in-game item, like the first person to exploit their way to 1 million kills (hahaha see what I did there?).

PhillipFryNotSureIfTrollingOrSerious.jpg Not trolling. I had a much longer original post, but the dust forums decided to troll me and erased it before posting lol. What it comes down to is there are losses all around the world either military or not. Even if this game was US only (which it's not) then you would still have a hard case trying to idolize this death in particular. It all comes down to relevance and perceived importance, and after a week no one will really remember this goonie who died save for the ones who knew him, or saw this article. The reason we have monuments is because it was a game related epic achievement, not because someone died (out of millions) and enough people moaned and pleaded to have him idolized in their favorite game. /hard truth: get over it You are missing a harder truth, some people have a bigger impact (and hence relative importance) than others. Yes the impact was in a virtual world for this individual, but it was also a reportedly a huge impact within that context. So it makes sense that many believe that he should be idolized within the world he was such a big part of.

@Iron
That and confirmed by the US Secretary of State and the President. Can't get any more official than that. |

Vile Rat was one of the staffers killed in the attack. He was also one of the premier diplomats within the EVE online game. so how exactly did he help the game?
This should answer your question.
