Imagine you were trying to take a planet, but your Corporation is on PS4 and you can't touch that planet because everyone who owns it is on PC. Not fun. Hate to break this to you, Mobius, but Eve: Valkyrie is standalone from Eve Online. It shares the same universe, but doesn't interact with New Eden directly. GUNJACK is the same.
CCP has accepted the idea of games set in New Eden, but not "touching" one another.

CCP has accepted the idea of games set in New Eden, but not "touching" one another. I'm well aware of that. However, neither of those games were built with the intention of linking to EVE Online. They were built from the ground up as standalones.
That's not the case with Dust 514. It was meant from the start to link with EVE and have all players sharing the same world the same way EVE does.
Keep in mind that EVR and Gunjack weren't even games initially. EVR was a tech demo made by a small group in their spare time that they decided to take further based on a LOT of tester feeback and all the public events they took it to, and Gunjack was inspired by that project. Especially consider that Gunjack is a mobile game.
If Dust 514 had no link to EVE, or was made by another company, would most of us even still be playing it? Part of why I never really had hope for Project Legion was because they said at the initial announcement that EVE: Legion would launch with NO EVE LINK WHATSOEVER, and that in fact Dust 514 would retain the link to EVE even though it would no longer receive client updates. They didn't even give any estimates on when EVE: Legion would actually be integrated into EVE.

To be quite honest - in three years of playing Dust I never interacted with a capsuleer - I only know what an Eve orbital strike looks like from the Fanfest 2013 presentation and the following trailer.
So if you ask me, I don't need Eve. To be quite honest I'm not sure the tie with Tranquility has done Dust any good so far.
Mind you, the connection to tranquility *could* make Dust a spectacular game. That is undisputed. But as for the past, present or mid term future there's nothing TQ does for Dust. The Eve franchise is a nice marketing pull, but considering that this game hasn't had any marketing in quite a while I'm not even sure the Eve universe is helping the game a lot.
I'd really like to know how many of our newberries are actually aware of the tie in with Eve online. Eve is a nieche game. Dust is even more of a nieche game. I'm not sure the link between them is very important to Dust. |

I'm not sure the link between them is very important to Dust. If nothing else, all of us connecting to the same server is essential for the international focus of Dust 514. Once you get into separate servers you split people up who might otherwise interact and make cool stories happen while playing.
Any other company would have made separate regional servers and instanced everything, and that would take away from the feeling of all of us being in one big world.

Actions > Words
Stop fantasizing/getting your hopes up.
I can say with a great degree of confidence the OP knows about all that. He has been around the game quite a long time. Since well before FF 14. My guess is that his optimism is based on a love for the game as well as being heavily invested in the game on several fronts. I may disagree with his post, but its no reason to assume ignorance or to suggest his optimism has less weight than your pessimism. Since when is it wrong to voice my opinion on this? What's wrong with my post? Did or did not CCP do those things? The only one that seems to suggest to weight anything is you with your post. He can make his believes based on words and I can make mine on previous actions. But if a man can't even voice another view then what's the point of this forum? Circle jerking each other off like most of the people here already do? Here is the thing in other (softer) words: Does DUST get a port? GreatDoesn't DUST get a port? GreatSo yeah I'm a pessimist . If it rains, it rains. I'm no pessimist for saying that it rains. Calling someone's optimism fantasies suggests that your pessimism is somehow more real. That is both a wrong action and an inaccurate statement.
Lets look at what happened post FF14.
We thought the game was over. We had no idea how long they were keeping the lights on, or what would become of Dust.
In comes Rattati, and with merely Hotfixes at his disposal, he does more to balance the game than the entirety of what CCP did prior to his arrival. THEN, at a point when we think we are only getting Hotfixes, and were happy to have them instead of nothing at all, we get updates and new content!
You aren't wrong to say it rains when it rains. But you ARE a pessimist when you ignore the days that it is sunny too.
Then you went so far as to hear someone say its sunny when it is sunny and call it a fantasy. That is hypocritical.
The reality is, there is reason for optimism as well as pessimism, and neither party knows what the future holds. If optimism is a fantasy, its no more or less a fantasy than your pessimism.

When someone talks TO you it is, by definition, direct.
Of course there are people doing things with DUST that we never hear of or from. Hilmar comes to mind.
But these mystery people do not talk to us and any opinion we form of them is founded upon what we know.
So it is surprising to hear from multiple CPM2s about how great and contributory CCP Rouge has been.
And, again, I will gladly suspend and reform my negative opinions if and when someone with DIRECT knowledge and insight lists some of those contributions.
How is my position unreasonable in this matter?
Sorry for being two or three days late. Got lost in my notifications.
I never said your position was unreasonable. I actually agree with you on some points. What you want is a very reasonable request.
(This is the part where I say your post is unreasonable)
I think you're being unreasonable when you say that these "mystery people", I assume the actual programmers, don't talk to us. Why should they? Is it their job to do that? No. Their job is to program, make art, music, etc. It is the job of CCP Frame, as Community Manager (I think he is), and CCP Rattati, as executive producer?, to talk to us about the state of the game.
The " mystery people" do their talking in the Monday meetings when they report to Rattati and Rouge. It would be nice if we got a monthly update, or biweekly update, about some of the things discussed in the Monday meetings.

Obviously the development team at large can't all be on the forums all the time or you end up with Planetside 2.
Getting a small peak into weekly progress on the game would help eliminate the appearance of stagnation, however.

Warframe has hour-ish long streams called devstreams where the community manager and some random people from the staff get on camera and just answer questions, talk about upcoming features, balancing that might happen in the near-term, events, etc. DE also gives away prizes during the stream.
I think they are every 2 weeks.
Imagine if Dust had something similar. Devs posting on the forums is great, and I like the feedback threads, but Rattati never talks about the future of the game beyond the next minor balancing tweak he wants to do... not exactly inspiring to the playerbase.
