An interview with CCP Rouge...
CCP Rouge wrote:GÇ£New Eden deserves a shooter on PCGÇ¥.
CCP Rouge wrote:GÇ£Yes, of course PC is a target because thatGÇÖs our primary platform for Eve Online,GÇ¥
Not saying PS4 isn't a target now, but that PC was Rouge's vision for this game... which is wise. Shame a port will never come to pass. |

Void Echo wrote:So we finally have an answer, ccp is singing a death sentence on their relations with console players.... good to know
I absolutely hate that Playstation is the only gaming system that doesn't have a game like halo... why the hell can't we have our own space/sifi/future/non earth game... why Read the article. He leaves some wiggle room to assume they might develop a PS4 port too. PC gaming is CCP's home field though. If they had to do it all over I'm sure they would have started on the PC then ported to a console like the PS4.

Void Echo wrote:With their reputation on the console, a port or overhaul to pc only, effectively abandoning console players, would pretty much be saying goodbye to consoles forever.
Microsoft wants full control and access to eve online, which is why ccp said no to them.
Sony regrets signing a contract with ccp because it failed to make a profit, not to mention all the bugs and dead ends ccp put Sony through with every update over the years so if they would Sony would say no to porting anything from pc made by ccp, they might say yes to port from ps3 but that's still a long jump. Not to mention the horrible player to ccp relation that has gone on since closed beta.
See what I mean? By going 100% pc, they are effectively saying goodbye to consoles forever. Not at all...
By going PC and PS4 they wouldn't be going "100% PC". If they went "100% PC" they wouldn't have to care about consoles anymore And Sony doesn't have a stake in Dust's profitability. They get a percentage of each PSN transaction whether Dust is making CCP money or not so "Sony regrets" is a bunch of bull.
Anyway, interpret what you want. This game isn't getting ported to either platform. See: complete silence on CCP's part.

Void Echo wrote:If they were to go pc/ps4 that would be a miracle. Actually Sony does regret it, you can look it up all over the net, there was months of fuss over whether or not Sony themselves would pull the plug on dust or not long before the Rouge wedding because dust wasn't profitable. If it is "all over the net" then how about a link?
And CCP went with PC/PS4 for Eve: Valkyrie. Doesn't seem like a sign of regret on Sony's part. |

Mobius Wyvern wrote:Keep in mind that none of the EVE Dev team expressed public opposition to Incarna.
Rouge doesn't write company policy or call the shots on platforms. Pretty sure if he did, even if he liked the idea of a PC port, it would have been announced far better than it was. The Legion announcement and all the nonsense surrounding it was a marketing screw up. Rouge wanted the announcement to go differently because, as stated in his interview, it is something he wants. A New Eden shooter on PC.
Mobius Wyvern wrote:I think that was an admirable goal, and I think it - and we - are worth the effort to make that happen the way both we and CCP wanted. Now we are talking about opinions Hard to debate feelings so I guess I'll just say... that's cool I guess.

Void Echo wrote:I spent $400 once for my ps3 5 years ago. I can't afford to pay $600 for a gaming pc and spend more $$ keeping it updated... Suit yourself. I will say this... after roughly 7 years of PC and console gaming, looking at the cost of the platform + peripherals and games, my console has been just as costly as my PC. Food for thought.
As for FPS being console only... you do know the first FPS was PC, right? CS:GO is a huge competitive FPS and is PC-exclusive. The FPS genre is not for consoles, it's for everyone. |

Void Echo wrote:If you count paying for games as spending money on consoles then that's true. I spent $400 when I bought it, then I spend $98 last year to get it fixed, total over 5 years I have only spend $498 on my ps3 whereas if I get a pc, I would continuously spend money just to keep the pc itself updated Define "continuously" because I upgrade my PC only when I am forced to due to hardware failure or the minimum system requirements of a must-have game make me... and that is highly infrequent.
Yes, if you have more money than sense you can upgrade a PC every month and spend thousands on doing so. It is the norm? NO. Not in the slightest. |

Void Echo wrote:Antivirus software, OS updates, repairs/replacements of current hardware. Updating the software so it's still usable. Subscribing to the manufacturer to get OS stability.
The list goes on and on. Updating the hardware alone costs $100s Anti-virus software? That's free. OS updates happen when you want them. People still have machines that run Windows 7. And as for "repairs/replacements" well that is pretty funny considering that PC components have individual warranties.
If a part on my PC breaks I remove it, ship it to the manufacturer for repair/replacement, I will pop in an old component in the meantime and keep on playing. PS3 breaks? Box it up and send the entire thing to Sony. Oh, and DON'T YOU DARE OPEN IT TO ATTEMPT FIXING IT YOURSELF opps now your warranty is voided. Sowwy console gamer.
This is a pretty tired argument though. I was just offering a suggestion that would, in the long run, open up a world of other games to you.

I don't know your car situation, but if you are willing to drive to other cities sometimes you can travel a bit for nice gear. I drove to a college town about an hour away and had a lady give me her son's school laptop. It wasn't maybe a year old Formatted it and now I have something to watch netflix on when I travel.

Your not giving pc gaming a good enough image for people to adopt if you treat console gamers like that I agree with you, Void. I do believe in PC Master Race, but calling console gamers peasants isn't the way to get people playing the superior platform.
Remember, Jammeh, we hate the consoles, not the gamers.

And don't forget you can connect console controllers to a PC. The xbox controllers have drivers ready on Windows already. The DS4 can be used by downloading one piece of free software.

Murder Medic wrote:Borderlands. Those games were hacked on consoles so bad it was basically unplayable online. Such a drag. I was at a friend's house when he was handed a modded item in BL. It caused his console to freeze and had to be restarted. From that point on, even after dropping the item, his PS would freeze when playing Borderlands. He had to uninstall/reinstall to fix it.
So lol @ only PC has hackers. |

Mobius Wyvern wrote:You can't do that because the game is based in New Eden. The whole point is for all players in New Eden games to share the same world.
Imagine you were trying to take a planet, but your Corporation is on PS4 and you can't touch that planet because everyone who owns it is on PC. Not fun. Hate to break this to you, Mobius, but Eve: Valkyrie is standalone from Eve Online. It shares the same universe, but doesn't interact with New Eden directly. GUNJACK is the same.
CCP has accepted the idea of games set in New Eden, but not "touching" one another.

Mobius Wyvern wrote:Getting a small peak into weekly progress on the game would help eliminate the appearance of stagnation, however. Warframe has hour-ish long streams called devstreams where the community manager and some random people from the staff get on camera and just answer questions, talk about upcoming features, balancing that might happen in the near-term, events, etc. DE also gives away prizes during the stream.
I think they are every 2 weeks.
Imagine if Dust had something similar. Devs posting on the forums is great, and I like the feedback threads, but Rattati never talks about the future of the game beyond the next minor balancing tweak he wants to do... not exactly inspiring to the playerbase.
