I have I actually rather enjoy the magsec, and find it useful on many fits. It is the most equipped weapon accross all of my suits. Its range is the main selling point. Id it had an optic, it'd be perfect.

The only variants of the assault plasma rifle that I enjoy using are the officer ones. While the Kalente has high DPS (nor rof or damage per shot specifically) the Krin and Baloc are the ones that really preform fore me. The krins barely does more...
