When CCP changes skills/bonuses, they need to refund all of the SP that way you can choose to reinvest or change into something else. "FOTM chasers, wah, QQ, wah, blah, blah" |

I don't know that anyone is really against respecs when there are, and this is the important point here, major changes are made to the skill tree. I'm sorry, but, "they made my weapon/suit/whatever worse" is simply not a sufficient argument. I'm not much of an HTFU guy, but I am a strong proponent of the "decisions matter" argument. Trust me, a respec would benefit me substantially, I've made some very poor choices over the past several months, but I live with them.
Example, I got sick of waiting for them to fix the Amarr logi suit so I specced into CalLogi. CCP finally got around to fixing that travesty a few weeks later, fortunately I hedged a little and stopped at lvl 4, but I still wasted a lot of SP and still, despite having 12 mil lifetime SP, don't have a proto suit. I don't beatch about it because I knew ahead of time what I was getting into.

Yea well I went full on dedicated logistics dropship pilot with Uprising and was mortified with how horrific of a choice that was, and was basically strongarmed into the respec by not wanting to smash my controller and uninstall DUST permanently. I'm sorry I wanted to actually play the game for X amount of months before dropships were ******* fixed (going on 4 right now, not counting the fact that they've been garbage most of beta as well).

There are so many good ideas for how to do respecs in a way that is fair. In my mind, "fair" is equal to it costing something; not necessarily real dollars, or isk. One of the best ideas I saw was it cost a percentage of your sp to do the respec (so removing the points was something like 20% more than the cost of putting it in there).
It's genuinely more fun to allow people to do things that ARE fun, regardless of if your argument is FOTM, or "it took me a freaking month to find out this is useless".

I moved to a second post to keep it from being a wall of text. My personal CalLogi story is a nice segue into the very fine counter-argument to the concept that somehow a respec is going to level the playing field. I don't remember who first made this point, but it was not me, so I apologize for plagiarizing it. The argument that somehow a newer player with, say 5-8 mil SP would benefit more than a vet who has probably wasted that much SP is specious at best.
What's the new player going to do with that 5 mil? focus more on core skills, and maybe get themselves an ADV suit of their choice? I'm sure that will be nice for them, but guess what they will be facing on the battlefield? Legions of vets with maxed out duvolles on proto caldari assault suits. That or the return of squads of face melting viziams on proto Amarr assaults.
That's why it's a failed argument. The newer player can only make so much improvement with a respec. Most of the vets probably redid their core skills with the uprising do-over or have enough SP that they finished them anyway. On the other hand, all those CalLogis you see out there still? That's the big SP sink for a lot of them, maybe that and flaylocks(or vehicles?). Proto-Ing those out cost almost as many SP as the people you think you are allegedly going to help have. A respec for them means they can instantly go full proto with maxed-out proficiency in the weapon AND suit of their choice. You can argue whether or not that's wise or game breaking, but it sure as hell ain't helping out the noobs! (The people it actually might help the most are those in the mid-range like me)
That said, I can get behind respecs in 2 situations:
1) all the racial suits or weapons get released. So much SP would be getting refunded from the modified tree anyway that they may as well just go all the way.
2) I can also see the wisdom of a one-time respec once you hit 5 mil (as an example, you can pick a number), but it would have to cost you something, whether it be AUR or some small % of your total SP. Not a lot, but just enough to make you think about whether you want to do it or not. This serves the altruistic purpose of helping new players even things out by using their precious SP more wisely without simultaneously feeding the protobears. |

I have gone through multiple stages of beta. On the last respec I went full proto sniper and AV, and part heavy. *as most went AR. would I like another respec? yes I wouldn't change the sniper or AV .. it be the aspect of having to go amarr to wear heavy armour, the option of wearing race heavy armour wasn't an option. *still isn't but release is planned.
I believe the offer of respecs should happen when CCP release the rest of the race dropsuits

NNNNGGG I need a respec on my mass driver alt.
Why didn't you all tell me I should have specced MIN assault instead of CAL assault?
I will need many PG/CPU upgrades but will eventually have 3x complex dmg mod, 2x enhanced kin cat on an advanced minmatar assault due to the high pg/cpu VS caldari ADV assault.
oh and it moves faster :)
