2 things,
Firstly, an apology, lately I've been writing some terrible half assed reviews filled incomplete thoughts and bitter out-look versus shows of obvious higher quality.
I'm going to put a bit more thought into what I write concerning them, and go back to the basics of review: Story, Character, Plot, Design, and Music with an Over-all summary.
That being said, I'm half way through A Lul in the Sea, Dub. And I've found this version of the show easier to watch then the sub counter-part.
2 reasons: 1) The two protagnist don't sound like whiney bitches at the start of the show. Hiki sounds a lot more likable in the dub, and his VA brings out the rough-confused child out while still maintaining enough maturity to sound competent. It's a nice difference from the jap VA who made him sound like a punk. Like-wise, the female voice also keeps that child-confusion-cutesy appeal, but also sounds like she's a lot more competent of a person.
But on the opposite end, Chitari, the purple hair girl, VA sounds like she needs to take a full breath when she talks, it's almost like loud whispers, but she's cute and does the character well.
2) like most dubs, it allow you to enjoy the visual much more, and this show is absolutely, without a doubt, gorgeous. |

Gratuitous nudity was a red herring, replaced by listening to a woman scream in pain for 15 minutes of every episode. They're actually treating this like wrestling is real. My God, it's awful...but I will--nay, MUST--persevere for the sake of anime lovers so that I can give a full review in the future! Gods, grant me patience!!! I already wrote a short review on why you would never want to watch it. Its basically voice ****. and yet, I re-watched it in dub, I never learn, lol. It wasn't that bad. Still, I knew exactly what I was gonna get when I started watching it. By no means is it really good, but I don't think it's bad either. Sure it's stupid. Sure they pretend wrestling is real. Sure it's basically just listening to women scream a lot, but I actually ended up being able to enjoy myself while watching it. Though, my memory of it is a little hazy. lol I had a hard time getting past the first 10 episodes because it's nothing but her getting her ass kicked xD Well I have a special set of fetishes that allowed me to not mind it so much.

Summer fun time first eps gooo!
Gakkou Gurashi - 01
Really interesting! Having read the synopsis for the show before seeing the actual first episode I found myself actively looking for clues throughout the first episode that betrayed the reality of their situation. I think the only that stuck out to me from the get go was the random barricade of desks and some misplaced boxes but aside from that the first episode played itself out in a surprisingly straight fashion. If you knew nothing about this going into it it'd be easy to think that it's your typical 'cute girls doing cute things' type of show with surprisingly decent production values (seriously I love how bright and pretty everything is).
That said, I think how decidedly 'normal' everything is for 90% of the episode is a bit of a double edged sword. If I didn't know the twist here I'm unsure whether or not there'd have been enough to draw me in and keep me interested during the course of events. Certainly that everything stays bright and pretty amplified the ending scene in which you find how truly warped the main character's view of reality is but it didn't make for a wholly entertaining 30 minutes. There were some funny bits with the dog ignoring the funny girl gag but I think it'd have been nice to have peppered in more decidedly "odd" moments and bits of dialogue that clashed with the main character's world view before getting to that point of tonal shift. If for nothing more than to give a little more credibility to the bleakness of their situation. There's a lot of different avenues a show like this could take and, though the show doesn't really give much inkling into the format for the rest of the series, I'm certainly interested enough so far to see where it's going. Label me as cautiously optimistic.
Wish Upon a Pleiades - 01
Because why not pick up a Spring show? I saw some mentions of the show being both pretty good and it having been criminally ignored by the majority of animeGAF and this, coupled with some mentions that the show explores some of the neater side of space, was enough for me to give the first episode a shot. I liked it! While they were far from what I'd call "subtle" about the direction some of the character development is going to take I'm glad that a feel good show about magical girls is going further than just taking on an enemy of the week and being cute and fluffy. My only exposure to the genre being Madoka and Yuki Yuna up until this point that was probably one of my bigger concerns while knowing that there wasn't going to be any grim dark subplot to go along with it. Whether it's able to successfully incorporate the drama without making me hate myself is the real question. There'll always be space **** to fall back on I guess.
Things I didn't like though? I guess the obvious one is the really distractingly bad CG. Like it's clear after having watched Show by Rock and Etotama that good CG in anime isn't just a pipe dream so to go into this after having checked out those shows is definitely a jarring experience. That and the fact that their magical broom sticks sound like cars. Bit odd.
Gangsta GÇô 01
I think after my first go through my thoughts were that the series was a bit crude in some key scenes, that in an effort to show how nitty gritty and dark the setting was the scenes with prostitution and sexual violence were just a bit much for me. I'm not sure if that initial reaction was justified though, the scenes themselves never took up much screentime, weren't the focus of the episode, nor were they framed in a way that I felt like they were trying to titillate the viewer. They go on to serve a purpose in making the scene in which female protagonist taking the gun to be just that much more impactful. I guess we'll see how the story deals with the subject matter later on but, in and of itself, I don't believe that those scenes were tooo out there (though random blowjob may have been a bit excessive).
On a second watch I think I was able to appreciate the other aspects of the show. Tsutchie being on board for the music gives everything that distinctive Champloo flair and it's definitely one of the highlights of the series thus far. The action's on point as well. I like it.
Gate GÇô 01
I'll be honest, I'm not thrilled that the MCs defining trait seems to be GÇ£loves anime/manga to the point of becoming a ridiculous on the fly field commander in order to save the con he was attending.GÇ¥ Which is a shame because there's definitely some interesting story telling fodder to be explored with sudden parallel universe coming in contact with normal modern day setting. I'll give it the ol' 3 episode rule on the basis that the second half was decidedly more tolerable than the first half.
Chaos Dragon GÇô 01
This was trash. I'll keep watching.
Things I still need to check out : Charlotte .. ? Classroom Crisis (because space maybe?) Laplace (probably ****) Monster Nichijou (obligatory) Fate/Kaleid S3 (obligatory) Himouto! Umaru-chan Overlord Rokka no Yuusha That-StudioBones-Show

And about A Lul In the Sea - episode 14 changes everything for this show. It's now done something I've only seen Clannad do - tell a story that spans years, letting us see for ourselves how some of these characters grew. Chisaki skyrockets up my list of favorite characters as a result.
Very glad i saved this show up to now.

So, I was watching Clannad, and they were working on a garden. It made me think about Harvest Moon. Y'all ever played that? Those games were really good. Then I thought Harvest Moon Anime. Sure it could be boring af, but done right it'd be so awesome. I'm thinking a 12 episode series where it focuses more on the protagonist's efforts to fix up a run down farm, or a 24 episode series where we get more in depth character relationships and our protagonist gets married at the end. I think I'd watch that. Would you?

They already have an anime for farming simulator 2014
But yes I think a Harvest Moon anime would be fantastic. The real question is if you make it chibi or not (I say no chibi)

First try was a swing and a miss: watched the first episode of Shining Hearts and just couldn't get into it. Looks to be way too much of a generic story.
Instead, it's time for High School DxD Born. Oddly enough, on watchcartoononline it's the dubbed version that's censored and not the subbed version. This is the first time I've watched the subbed version and I have to admit...I like the dubbed voices better. Especially Rias. There's just so much raw potential for an incredible storyline to emerge in this series (particularly if you've read American Gods by Neil Gaiman or seen the Prophecy movies) that I'd be willing to sacrifice the gratuitous T&A for some real depth. Currently on episode 3 and plan on watching it all tonight!

Is that you Sota? I saw you reply in another thread saying it was.
Either way you should tell me what you think of Wolf Girl and Black Prince
It's one of those shows that isn't super amazing, but takes a different spin on the idea of romantic comedy (I feel like you might have already told me your opinions about this show at one point but I must have forgot)

It should of been a lot better of a show then it was, it had the Kaichou-Wa-Maid-Sama feel and character design, but it's hard to support or build relationship with characters who do the wrong thing knowingly.

Just finished season 3 of High School DxD. Good stuff, as usual. There's still so much untapped potential in terms of storylines that this show could go on for years if they wanted it to. That said, changes will need to be made to shake things up if they want us to remain interested--things are still too "happy" in the sense that everything will work out in the end. There just doesn't seem to be enough at risk here other than a schism amongst the harem; Vali, as one of the main antagonists, is presented too sympathetically in this season to be thought of as an outright villain. Indeed, the main characters of the actual conflict (Azazel, Vali, etc.) all come off as being "too cool" and that the impending war is something to be viewed with polite curiosity rather than actual conviction.
That said, the true story of the show should be coming from Issei and the Occult Club; how long can he maintain the status quo? How long can he keep the harem happy? Let's not forget that a new season will likely result in Irina and Rossweisse becoming yet more potential love interests, or (potentially) the "free bishop" of the Phoenix family that only briefly appeared this season. Season 3 continues to make subtle hints at further conflicts down the road; can Issei find peace with the death of Yuuma/Raynare? Will their affection for Issei drive a wedge between Rias and Akeno? And does Issei's ultimate goal of becoming a harem king put him directly at odds with Rias' role as leader of the Occult Club?
Like I said, there's still so much raw potential still lurking in this show that they could take it in a myriad of directions...but first, they need to figure out just what kind of show this will be. Does it remain as more of a harem comedy with plenty of gratuitous fan service? Does it become a hero myth and follow the trials and triumphs of a solitary character (of particular interest would be an exploration of how Rias must come to terms with leading and endangering the lives of those she cares about as she balances the roles of being a woman and a leader) or an examination of the trappings of the male power fantasy (Issei) wherein his choices (or his inability to make them) directly impacts the very people he cares so much about?
Oh, and I'm still with Team Akeno...even though the budding "pure" romance of Asia is posing a serious threat.

14 episodes into Clannad, and y'know what? I think that's enough. I finished the Fuko and the Kotomi arcs and boy was I bored. The MC they could've replaced with literally any other anime protagonist and everything would've been done the exact same except twice as interesting. Nagisa, Ryou, Tomoyo, and Kotomi are just meh. I don't like Sunohara. They should've just called him punching bag for all he does. Kyou earns some points, but only because she might be a siscon. Fuko was cute, but of course they got rid of her. Nagisa's parents however I actually genuinely enjoyed, but they're just side characters.
The show is also a mess. The first few episodes had very weird jump cuts, and the balance between drama and comedy wasn't very well executed. The comedy on it's own was fine, though nothing earth shattering. The feels were there, but nothing like I expected them to be. The highest point is the Dango song. I love the Dango song.
Clannad can go sit in the corner of shows I didn't finish along with Watamote and Gurren Lagann.
After Review: Yea, I know I was harsh, but chances are I'm going to end up finishing all of these shows at some point. Who knows, maybe I'll learn to appreciate them. Next is... (Drumroll Please) KANCOLLE!!!

First season of clannad is just 'decent' if barely, it's season 2 that really brings light to that show. You're missing out.
Same with Gurren Lagenn... except I've no idea why you dropped this show, it's so epic epic isn't even epic enough of a word to describe it.

Finished the series!
Ladies versus Butlers! 8/10 A nice, humorous story that is only held back by the open ending (which obviously leaves room for more seasons.) Was expecting a rather typical harem comedy and was surprised not to see it really go in that direction (as of yet) by keeping the main focus on a pair of rivals...though even that much doesn't really come into play until the latter half of the show. Liked Saikyo better when she was presented as more of a troublesome prankster than as a (supposed) love interest, while Selenia is your basic tsundere character. Could have done without the loli-but-wait-she's-actually-19 character, but oh well. Akiharu is funny as a protagonist but disappears when the focus shifts to Saikyo v Selenia.
And the T&A flows freely, which is always a plus!
