Here's a question. If you had someone who wasn't into anime, but you think they'd like it, which show would you recommend?
Personally, I'd go with Shirobako. It's a nice paced, and very good anime that 1) Is about creating anime so the viewer gets a little bit of knowledge, and more respect for the creators, 2) Doesn't go overboard on anime tropes while still having them so the viewer can get used to anime, and 3) Is in a realistic setting that would be more familiar to people who don't watch cartoons.

Each persons different so the show that may get them hooked will be.
Shirobako isn't going to be a show many Westerners will like, it requires too much invested interest to begin with to make there problems and angst have any meaning. The show itself isn't actually all that good, but since it gives us insight, wisdom, and a new perspective on smething we're interested in - it hooks us, and makes the cast shine all the brighter.
But it would fail to anyone not half-way already a full blown Otaku, imo.
The best shows to get people hooked are either going to shock, amaze, or give them feelings.
You want to shock them? Attack on Titans, Steins Gate, Prison School, Future Dairies.
You want to amaze them? Guilty Crown, K, Madoka Magica, Cannan
You want to give them feelings? Clannad, Your Lie In April, Toradora, Blue Spirng Ride, etc.
What originally hooked me was character intensity in Gundam Wing - I had never experienced or seen such complicated, daring, and interesting characters. Western shows don't go into detail with so many plots at once, giving shows like Gundam a real feel for a universe that we're exploring with the show.
But what got me addicted was Toradora and the feeling Romance shows gave. |

PRISON SCHOOL!!!!! -
8/10
I know there's an episode or 2 left - but let me start with a LOLOLOLOLOL!
I love a good perverted show, the other one this season isn't nearly as funny, well put together, interesting, or well animated. Prison School blows most comedies out of the water.
with insane visuals, harsh language, and incredible pacing - Prison School is one of this seasons must watch for Comedy fans. |

Woot woot! Final two uncensored episodes of Shimai Maou no Testament are out!!!
Shinmai Maou no Testament (Testament of Sister New Devil)
8/10
Power Fantasy/Ecchi/Harem
Plot: Basara's life is turned upside-down when his father informs him that he'll be getting a new family--namely, two cute sisters. Things get off to a rough start for Basara as a result of some unfortunate ecchi accidents...and only get worse when the sisters reveal themselves to be demons! Entrusted with caring for his new family in his father's stead, Basara must protect them from outside forces while coming to grips with his own tragic past...and learn how to survive the complicated reality of juggling a harem full of beautiful women.
Theme: Pure male power fantasy: Basara is the unyielding hero who will do anything to protect those around him. Coincidentally, such bravery naturally results in women swooning for him at nearly every pass. Women who also just so happen to become sexual slaves of his. Also, the incest taboo is a major aspect of the show, along with domination. Revenge is a recurring theme throughout the show, as well.
Okay, so the show is entirely predictable in that events play out pretty much exactly as predicted; fortunately, the show is strong enough to remain entertaining. Basara is a solid--if generic--MC. Mio serves as a good damsel-in-distress and Maria is the driving force behind much of the show, including the comedy moments. Yuki adds the requisite childhood friend/romantic rival and Yahiro serves the role of friend/foe to Basara. All fairly standard stuff.
With a second season preparing to start next month, I'm interested to see which direction the show will go in--namely, do we dig deeper into the conflict amongst the rival factions of demons/heroes, or do we focus on building up Basara's harem? I'm hoping for the former as it would provide (potentially) more character development and hopefully include some twists to break up the storyline (the final scene of this season definitely brings up some interesting questions.)
Animation is standard fare. Mio and Yuki are pretty enough but not truly noteworthy. Music is forgettable. Loads of ecchi/nudity abound.
Verdict: Definitely watchable if you're a fan of power fantasy/harem shows.
For the Record: Team Maria, purely for the entertainment value.

Re-wind Review:
To Love-Ru Darkness -- 10/10 Look at my corp name. Was there any question as to what the show's score would be? Honestly, I'm amazed at how this show can throw in so many harem candidates and yet still find a way of making you feel as though any one of them would be the "correct" one. This third season focuses mainly on the emergence of Momo and Yami as true characters, with the plot mainly revolving around Momo's implementation of the Harem Plan and Yami's struggle to accept her newfound happiness. Truth be told, I think what makes this show succeed to the extent that it does is the fact that Rito is never truly the MC; rather, it is the various harem candidates that move the story along with Rito serving as the common bond between them. Dying to catch the new season once it's finished (and uncensored.)

For some reason I keep coming back to Kotegawa...I don't know if it's because of how much she struggles with her feelings towards Rito or the simple fact that she's gorgeous.
Side note...what does Sairenji's future hold? She almost disappears as a character in the third season, despite being one of the two "leading" candidates.

First episode of the season is heavy in Sairenji - she's definitely going to have a bright future. She's the only character with real famine charms, too.
And Kotegawa would of been my third pick - I agree, I love watching her struggle, it's that Tsundere with an extra bit of Dere that gets me with her. She's very rough, yet gentle and warm. Her Voice Actor really knows how to bring it to life.
Actually, every character in this show is pretty good, Momo's sister, the blonde assassin, everyone. |

My PS3 is pretty much dead; can't even use it to browse the web or anything as it crashes every time. May get adventurous and replace the thermal paste and pads again to see if it'll work.
Bought a PS4 for Father's Day along with FIFA 15 and Far Cry 4. Played about 70 games of FIFA and haven't even tried FC4...anime has completely taken over my life. Getting sick of all the "not enough free system memory" errors when I watch via the PS4 browser.

To those who use PS4 browser: Moetube.net has been the best site so far, and then there's several european dub sites that have Dubs I didn't even knew existed, which is where I found Hayate the Combat Butlers all 4 seasons dubbed (9/10)

If it's a show I want to give all my attention too - it goes on my 65inch in all it's Theater set up glory.
Otherwise, I look for a dub to throw on for background so I can enjoy it while playing Dust, MGS5, Rocket League, ESO, etc.

Re-wind Review: Is This A Zombie? (Season 1) -- 8/10
Hilarious show. Didn't like the subs as much this time around as he's gone from being a "Magic Garment Girl" to a "Magiclad Girl." Sera's put-downs of him, however, have gone from "filthy maggot" to "vile piece of sh*t," so I guess it's a wash. Eu is such a fascinating, tragic character that you can't help but hope for things to go well for her. I also really like Tomonori and her struggle to become the best wife she can be by forcing herself to like the MC. Main villain is also a wonderfully tragic figure, and the show does a great job of explaining why Eu is so reluctant to grant him his wish.
Am I the only person that thinks the theme of this first season is centered around gender identity?

Spend my time switching between Kissanime and Anilinkz. I think Anilinkz has something like 96 episodes of Hayate dubbed and 104 subbed. Problem with Anilinkz is that some shows are given separate links for the censored/uncensored versions while others only inform you that you're watching the uncensored version when you actually go to watch an episode. Was thinking of giving Pupa a shot but Anilinkz has the uncensored version as one giant file that runs like a movie...

After watching Prison in Dub I am now convinced - Comedies are funnier in Dub then in Sub, and the Dub versions take more risk with crude language.
And I'd say that gender identity was the most common themed joke in the show, it continues heavy into S2, as well. The jokes, trolling, whatever you want to view it as in that show follow a progression along with he plot - it's what makes the jokes funny, they're relevant to the plot. |

Let me start off with the bad--I couldn't stand the character of Chris, and the ending is far too open-ended to be satisfactory. That said, the show continues to introduce harem candidates including the sweet Taeko and my personal fave, Savasvati. This season definitely focuses more on Ayumu instead of Eu, which is a bit of a shame as Eu is by far the most interesting character in the show. Also find Seraphim's character to be too tsundere to be likeable and she's pretty much reduced to a background role in this season. Humor remains strong, which is the saving grace of this season.
... 99.9% agreed.
