I'll probably give up Amarr logi and other medium suits for core skills and such. Maybe try to focus my spending this time round instead of having SP everywhere.

There have been so many times I wanted to pull the trigger since 1.2 and get the proto commando, but I use the AUR versions and don't see that much difference from my advanced commandos I run 90% of the time. Still, I almost think it'd be worth it just to see how stupidly fast you can reload weapons

As for your question, I imagine their weakness will still be pretty much the same weakness as it is currently, CQC and enclosed areas. Commandos are slow like Sentinels but don't have nearly the same EHP. This results in them going down pretty fast in these situations. particularly in the Gallente Research Facility the Commando has many challenges. The Commando also suffers in one-on-one combat, but I'm not too sure how this will change with the new racial bonuses.
Ideally, the Commando thrives in open areas within clusters of players as it is able to reload through ammunition quickly and pick the proper weapon to engage the many enemies on a more individual basis, if that makes sense. A map that works great in the Commando's strengths is Manus Peak.

Especially since you are losing the Melee bonus I believe. It's going to 150 instead of 250. I will be able to knive you guys with impunity.
Also, the the gist of the suit seems to be "Mid-Long range Area Denial' due to their ability to quickly put rounds downrange and always use the best weapon for the situation. Combine this with the damage buffs, and I see these guys being able to pin down groups trying to move between objectives. Maybe LAV's will get some more use lol.
However, I do see a scout being able to circumvent this with a cloak. If you can get point blank, Commando's will be done for.
I feel a rivalry being made here.

Tiger vs. Lion.
Scout vs. Commando.

Don't even get me started, I am very upset that we will no longer have the "Fist of God," it was like a third weapon to me, but I can understand why it is being done. And you nailed the hammer on the head there, there is nothing more I'm fearing than scouts using stealth to get upclose and abuse our poor CQC ability, but it is a counter that needs to exist. I am looking forward to how this scout-commando relationship pans out in 1.8.

But Yeah, I learned quickly not to fight a commando head on with that 250 melee.
I got OHK'd a LOT. Kinda funny in hindsight.

If you go to post #288 on page 15 I did some speculation on potential fits. It's honestly looking like the Gallente Commando will be the most dangerous, but still too early to tell.

Anyone planning to go minmatar commando with CR and Swarms? Seems like the best configuration to me. Fastest speed, fast reload speed good for both CR and swarms, DMG bonus to both AV and Infantry weapon (CR is very very good mid/short range, where you will be most of the time). CR has low fitting costs, which is awesome (commando bit gimped on those stats TBH).
What equipment would be best for a Commando? Ammo hives would naturally be good to supply the CR and swarms with ammo (cover up their weaknesses of bursting out so many rounds/few carried rounds). What about REs? Would you gimp your ammo pool then? |

Because the Commando works in a sort of area-of-denial/perimeter patrol style, I tend to stick with the active scanner. I used to run it with a Wirkykomi triage hive which made the suit very good at defense, but it was getting very costly.
If you are planning on running swarm launchers, a nanohive is practically a requirement.

That Minmatar heavy definitely looks pretty cool, but the Gallente heavy probably looks the scariest.
Good fits, mainly based around the scanner, but I like em! Kind of sad most fits can only use advanced weaponry. But with Proficiency 4, theres not a big diff between them in practice I guess.
Imagine the minmatar commando with 2 kincats.. hahaha people would soil their pants seeing that beast run uber fast. |

This fitting should be called RAMBO.
It should cost something like 16M SP I think (Assuming only 1 equipment unlocked). |

Another cool role (not one I am interested in playing) is caldari commando with sniper and RR.
Roughly: Range amplifier. Damage amplifier. Shield Recharger.
Kinetic cat. whatever in last slot (regulator?)
Nanohive.
You will be a supressor from long range. Either by following behind your squad with RR or finding a sniper position and supporting from ultra range. |

Lots of cool potential roles, and I know that a lot of people like to make the Commando some very niche/situational weapon role tagged with an assault style weapon as their "sidearm," which is cool and all but I don't personally want to run around my commando with a sniper or even a swarm, I want to run my commandos with two assault style weapons.
That's part of the fun of Commandos though, so many possibilities.

I see the frame to be equivalent to the heavy assault in Planetside 2: http://planetside.wikia.com/wiki/Heavy_Assault Weapons:Light Machine Guns, Rocket Launchers, Specialized Weaponry, Shotguns, Submachine Guns Special Abilities: Shields, Anti-Vehicle Grenade, Concussion Grenade, C4
Its pretty much the "Light AV" role, but it can fill other roles too.
Would love to spec MD, Swarms, CR on the Commando mk.0. MD is kind of situational, but if you also carry a CR you-Śre gonna be able to quickly adapt to the situation when entering city environments (for example) and spam the crap out of indoor objectives. |
