another option is to make the base gallante suit a bit slower than the others, so they have to put a speed mod in a slot to compensate.

I like the idea, but then again.... You wouldn't need team orientated game modes if you were running solo...... an ffa match would be the best choice. No squads, every man for himself. Just imagine, an ambush, without teams. :)
