Keep changing the distance at which you are fighting. Move out then in, then out. Unlike other guns, left and right strafing do little to help.

Hilarious, I have similar core stats to you and I also enjoy running the plasma cannon. It's fun to use since its so impractical. Nothing is a s satisfying as a plasma cannon kill. They get so mad!! Seriously though, its a terrible gun, just awful.

Ferroscale is the best option, and its still worse than shields. Double the armour amount of plates and things would be fine. Or cut the speed penalty down to a reasonable level.
