Right now, infantry-dropships combat feels balanced right now. I've had forge gunners kill me. Proto swarms kill me, and a PLC has killed me. Only tanks are mismatched right now.

I imagine a flashbang-like grenade that does actual damage. It should do the least damage, but have the widest AOE If you've ever seen Stargate SG-1, the Goauld's grenades would be a good example.
