I am also saddened by the (albeit temporary) removal of my ADS. I have gotten to the point where 1 in 4 losses is due to enemy fire...with the rest being me and being stupid, like carefully backing into a building and then scraaaaaping my way along until I hit a roof...)
I wanna fly, I wanna shoot, I wanna work with my team, I wanna scrape those bastard snipers off the tower.
Looking forward to the new setups, will miss it for the 6 weeks it's gone. (miss it badly!) |

Its going in 1.7 and I am very sure it will be longer than 6 weeks.

I thought you may be interested to see a screenshot of the video creation process. here is the edit window for my newest video, 1.6.1 on the cameras since 1.3. Each of those small bits is a video segment with edits, keys and FX in.
That's nothing compared to the one for the training videos though. Thats a single video from the 5 in the series. Each of those yellow and blue bits is the effects for the little controller you see on screen.
I try my best to make the videos as good as I can for you guys.

Judge, although you have posted some great suggestions on pick-up and drop-off requests, there is one subject I have yet to see you cover, cooperative play with a dedicated squad, i.e. air assault operations. I don't know if this is a case of you wisely sticking to your area of expertise, or if you find it too varied a subject to cover with your usual thoroughness. Still, I'd like to see your take on joint operations, especially since we now get a transport bonus (albeit a very modest one). If it's simply a matter of having a squad to record with, I'm sure enough people would volunteer for such an endeavor. It could be especially useful for illustrating just how modest the transport bonus currently is. Thoughts?

It's one on the list Lanius, but i am holding off till 1.7 in the big venture videos like that. I need to know how the new ships will be against AV, flight characteristics etc before I get stuck in. It would be a big project and I want the ships and tactics to have havd a chance to bed in first.
Like you said, i will need a squad to do it. which means a script, that you have in advance so we can get the correct footage to make training videos useful.

Judge, I was reading your response and opinion about the new stabilizer for militia dropships, and I have to say you're completely wrong about this feature.
First of all, you're over exaggerating its capabilities. Comparing it to an auto-aim, or even an aim-assist, for ARs is ridiculous and dishonest. It does not make noob pilots great pilots. It's not training wheels. All it aids with is leveling out if you need to stay still and landing, which are of the lowest levelskills (though one of the most frustrating even for veteran pilots). It cannot aide in virtually any of your videos' maneuvers; it's limited to hovering and slow moving, and if you think that's what should separate great pilots from neophytes, your mistaken.
It cannot prevent crashes from bad piloting because it takes time to engage and you maintain velocity afterward, meaning that the pilot still must maneuver and evade collisions (which should happen right away rather than waiting the 1-2secs for it to level out). It cannot aide with ADS aiming because you must constantly track your enemies, leaving little to no time for the stabilizing to engage. It hasn't interfered with any maneuver I have ever attempted thus far.
The only thing it does do is what's it's supposed to: help stabilize the dropship when hovering, which very annoying to do effectively because of the difficulty in gauging the tilt of the dropship. I see this feature as simple and non-invasive (such as a new symbol on the HUD would be) and would not mind seeing this on my future LDS and perhaps my ADS as well.
I will support the ability to toggle it on and off as some may find it off-putting.

HAH what a coincidence. I wish I had seen this earlier! I agree with Lanius Judge, not many understand much about Torque. Would make an interesting mini video if you have the time for it. |

I had and idea for a new piece of equipment relevent to dropship pilots.
^Here's the thread: A 'Sky Hook' Extraction Device. Basically a fast, relatively simple way to pickup troops. I'd love to hear what you lot think.

each class of ship has a different height ceiling. 400m is a medium amount above the MCC

I did some number crunching on the new 1.7 Dropship skill tree to see how many SP you will need to max out one of the racial dropships. I took the defence skills to level 5, skipped turret rotation and remote repping, CRUs and anything not related to defense or assault. I maxed one weapon type, Missiles in this case.
16, 975, 960 Skill Points
This will give you a 1.6 equivalent of a python in terms of maxed trees. Im not talking about the same level of operational effectiveness, just maxing those skills that you will want to keep you alive longer and kill faster.
Want to get a Gallente ADS too? : another 2, 039, 600 SP to level 5 it for the turret max bonus. Although you can fly it at level 1. Want to max blasters too? another 3, 793, 180 SP
So to max out blasters, missiles and both available dropship to ADS level :
22, 298, 840 Skill Points

A viable fit should only be about 4mil. After that it just optimization. Seriously look at the fitting tool stickied in GD and find a fit that you like, calculate the needed skills and SP requirements, and see what you can manage.

amazingly helpful videos, and by half-way through the second one I could tell I was never going to be a pilot. Even though the video was partially covered by other windows, the spinning exercises made me a bit ill!

I think a 4 mil fit is more workable than viable. I think 10-12 mil is more like it. A 4 mil fit is more like getting a proto suit and wearing that before you get you cores and gun skills to a point to match it. You will be able to function but with much more care and skill needed to make an impact on the battle.
3.5 Mil gets you good shields, gun and the ship. But none of the skills to boost your active module duration or rgen times. OIr missile damage. If you run that fit be very careful not to linger and expect to spend some time in recovery with limited attack windows

please reserve my spot on that squad whenever it may be. I would of given up on trying to be a pilot in this game without your training it is invaluable and i'm a true Han Solo in my other life. So thanks and thanks again for what you've done and whats to come!

I just want to say thank you again for the videos. I watched them all again this past week as I'm now going all in on the Python with a bit of testing of everything else. I've only spent about 3 mil SP in the new vehicle tree but that has given me a fit with all enhanced modules but no supporting skills. Other than redline rail tanks taking me out in one hit the maneuvers you presented have allowed my ships to live decent lives. My best match so far is 10/0. Not fantastic but it also included two tank assists and numerous uplinks.
My current main fit is:
Python
AT-1 Missile Launcher
Enhanced Heavy Shield Extender Enhanced Shield Hardener Complex Afterburner Complex PG Upgrade
I was thinking of working on the turret and it's skills next. I used a fitting tool and I'm not sure I can fit a complex heavy extender so I figured killing faster would be a good idea.

Just an update that I have been doing a lot of game mechanic testing so have not added a new video for a while. The next one is about the redline. Ready in about 3 days. I hope to release it on the 21st Jan 2014.
