amazing thread!
This guide will help pilots quickly understand how to handle their dropships without the horrible crashing and burning! All the information beta pilots had to learn through fire and blood and tears passed down for the new pilots of dust. In a very clear, well made video with controls displayed on the screen and nice diagrams to boot.
I would love to fly with you and share some thoughts on combat maneuvers and multiple dropship tactics.
+1 for you good sir! fly safe |

I thought it would be nice to add in a useable dropship to the corp. I am not looking to run it full time just having it when benifical would be nice. Also what would you suggest I put those points into. thank you for your time 2 million SP in this build is not much. Getting an ADS to level 3 costs more than that alone. Let me pop in tomorrow and see what 2 mill will get you. With the state of AV keeping a 2 mill ship alive and useful will be difficult. Is it really worth it though to put the points into that until you have litterally nothing else to get? The benefits for most of the vehicle tree look like a joke to me Yeah the vehicle tree has a lot of small % numbers that make people think this. Just remember that you are dealing with a larger amount of HP and EHP so its still quite significant. Remember that in this universe people will spend over 50 mil isk for 2% :) |

Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:Thanks Operative 1171 Aajli. If i'm on i'll always be in condor squad or 1st airborne. If you are going to gun make sure to tell your pilot your prefered weapon - blaster, missile or if you have no idea what your are doing; rail.
Also remember that the changes in 1.4 and the vehicle to AV imbalance we have makes gunning hard. Pilots have to move round a lot these days, and with the lack of markers spotting 2 pixel tall black dots is tricky; so you may find that you don't get many kills. Also you have to be on mic to gun and always shoot at the target your pilot asks you to. Always. Pilots know the field and the risks on it and balance that against the module they have running, the damage incoming and what modules are on cooldown and the state of the ships shields and armour.
If you are 1 shot from killing a proto assault caldari and the pilot says "forge gunner front left" you forget the caldari assualt, no matter if he is 1 hp from death. What the pilot says is priority; is priority - immediately, not when you you get done with what you are doing at that moment.
Condor squad is very welcoming of new pilots, but at the same time remember that the best pilots in the game hang their and they expect a level of professionalism (except they let me off 2 nights ago when i was playing after getting home from a funeral and was rather drunk - MCCs it turns out, are not soft.)
I'll happily gun for you in your shiny new ADS. Couldn't have said it better myself! Loving the 5th video, very good instructions on how to use altitude to your advantage! As a veteran pilot I have used everything in this video to gain the advantage on my enemy, to all up and coming pilots heed this mans wisdom. Sometimes taking fire for a shock trooper team gives them the edge in battle. One of the most useful advantages to the Assault dropship is forcing the enemy to get into cover where your assault dropship cant hit without undo risk, effectively denying positions that might hinder a friendly ground advance . This allows your ground assets to dictate the terms of the engagement.
Well disciplined and skilled gunners bring out the full damage dealing potential of the dropship. I'm glad you stressed having a mic to communicate with the pilot. One of the reasons why pilots don't want blueberries in their ship is they shoot anything and everything, aggroing turrets, tanks, dropship, AV or just plain shooting at the MCC. Assault dropships aren't cheap and if I'm going for a low attack run I cannot afford having a red rail gun aggro me. For taking out tanks, especially red line rail tanks, an order I typically give to my gunners is "hold fire on the tank until I give the word" Allowing me to get into a good position behind the tank. Tanks are very meaty and require consecutive hits to break its reps/tank. Since the tank probably doesn't know I'm getting into position I don't want my gunners to alert him to our presence prematurely and risk having him run into his red line or under cover of a building. Once I feel I am In a good position, and level enough to have my gunners score as many hits as possible I give the word to my gunners to start hitting the tank. Comms are key to any sort of dropship related venture!
I'm very excited to see more videos going into dropship combat strategy, if there is anything I can do to help please don't hesitate to ask!
also you didn't tell me you had gone to a funeral! my condolences. I thought you were just having a drunk dust night! fly safe o7 |

Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:Once 1.5 is out Pvt Numnutz I'll need gunners for my tactics video and pilots for a stunt video to show what real pilots can make a dropship do. I'll also have plans that involve showing mistakes and how easy it ti to get killed in certain situations. That is a project that will involve millions of ISK in lost ships. If you still want to help then I'd be so grateful to have you along. Sure ill fly a few dropships for the cause, ill just make them as cheap as possible! I have a gunner I've been flying with since beta, we make really short work of enemies, ill talk to him about getting on board. I'm happy to help out the rookies, Beta pilots had to learn everything the hard way. These videos really give all the information a new pilot needs to start flying! Ill join 1st airborne tomorrow |

Agreed, AV is almost impossible to see now. With the new camera angle and this rendering problem swarms are almost impossible for me to find unless they happen to be right infront of me and they fire a volly. Don't even get me started with forge guns..... Good video judge, I hope someone at ccp sees this! |

Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:They way i saw it : You have 6 seats so can accept 6 requests. You could give people making the request an order number. If they know they are 5th on the list they may decide to cancel. Each request gives you a different colour when you accept so a pilot might have 6 plane icons on his screen at once.
In the passenger seat you can use the overhead map. This is easier when you are not so vulnerable as you are on the ground. You could also lock the seats. Say the ship is empty. If i accept 6 requests but at spot 1 the requester and 5 others get in. What then? We could lock it to only the requesters, like reserving a seat. or to account for this only allow 2 requests max. This also stops 1 pilot taking all requests when there are two in the battle.
The logic tree would be quite deep. But the top level is simple. Choose transport from the weapon wheel, point where you want to go or use the map view, ship turns up and takes you there. Not too many fussy menus. yes! a thousand times yes! brillant idea judge! for streamline sake maybe have it be a squad leader order, that way instead of every individual mer asking for pick up squad leaders can assemble their squads and ask for pickup. once placed all dropships can see the icon, maybe a modified rally icon? anyway loving this train of thought. I'm begining to think the best thing they can do to help dropships is improve our UI haha! |

AV things this is going to be the end of the world. Its as though they have no idea that we are only getting standard dropships. Things will be balanced, but they have to rip up the old floor to put in a new one. I have come to terms with this and so should they. Thank you for the reality check judge, ill be directing doom saying swarmers to your video.
If you ask me its about time they required some skill, actual player skill that is. Instead of lock fire, lock fire, etc etc. Now they have to really think about their positioning. Very good move CCP |
