Would you quit if everyone's Sp was reset back to 500K?
If yes then doesn't that tell you that the SP leveling system is broken?
If yes doesn't that tell you game play is really not all that fun anymore with the update?
If yes then how do you think a new player feels when they come here and not only start with 500K Sp but have to go up against people with 8 million SP? What chance is there that if you were them that you would stay for very long? |

On update day i ran around in starter gear and spent no SP....it was passably fun not hitting anyone and them not really hitting me....if everyone was equal i imagine it would have been even more fun. |

This. It's pretty strange that people seem to take it for granted there's no reset at launch. Every beta has a reset at launch. As if it's not enough of an advantage that beta players know the game inside and out, now CCP is giving us up to 10m SP on top of that. |

Because it's the only way they can truly unkitten the clusterkitten of their Mercenary Pack debacle they got themselves into.

I would be gone faster than you can say GÇ£Lickety SplitGÇ¥
I have spent a significant amount of time and money building my character(s) to the point they are at now. I played during the closed Beta and watched for the time that CCP announced that there would be no more resets. (Barring disaster) Then once that statement was made I diligently played each and every day, and each and every week as needed to maximize my SP. I made that commitment because I saw the GÇ£PotentialGÇ¥ of what the game could be even if it is not to that point yet.
This does not mean that I have no compassion for the plight of new and inexperienced players. But I EARNED what I have by my time, my diligence, and my money. Simply put there are better ways to facilitate a new player experience than to punish me.

I do well for my SP and gear i think...hard to judge really.
I got games where i got 25+ kills and 5 or so deaths get the top chart spot and basically solo win the game for my team...i also got games where all i did was die. Of course those are games usually where we are red lined and everyone on my team has basically quit and i am just going to keep going....sometimes you just need to pound your head against the wall...plus also sometimes you actually get some kills in take a base and inspire the team to come back and win. And i have otehr games where we have red lined the enemy and i only got 3 or 4 kills at the start and then over the course of the next ten min that we red line them i get killed 3-4 times by snipers.
Also i do worse on Ambush then i do on Skirmish...so if Skirmish was actually counted i think i would be in the 1.5 to 2.0 K/D ratio....again this is with crap Sp and crap gear.
Yeah i am good and i am new and i am quitting the game even though i am good. The crap game play combined with the leveling/sp system that rewards seniority rather then FPS skills is just too much to put up with. |

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it is quite uncommon for a Beta-tester's progression earned during a Beta to carry over after the final release of a game.
In most cases, there is a full stat-wipe/reset at launch, and everyone starts from scratch, at square one.
Although I do feel that a full refund for Aurum spent would only be fair. |

I completely agree with you. A corp member and I have been doing great with even just the militia drop ship. I'm not getting any kills, but I am getting people to objectives. Sorta sucks my stats are ******, but still I know my team members know the value I am to my team.
With that said, I'm a little indecisive with a reset. I enjoy having my skill points, but playing with mostly militia gear till the full release on the 14th. I have noticed a very imbalanced play when it comes to the players with proto suits/weapons to players with std gear. I've had the drop on many of players, but because they were in a "magical suit," they had the time to turn around and put several rounds into me, while I'm reloading, yet still killing me.
Not for me, but for my friends that I want to invite to this game, and for the new players that join so we're not always going up against the same people. So with that... Please CCP, make skill capped matches. |

Technically, you haven't been "playing this game", you've been voluntarily testing an unfinished product in order to evaluate it and provide feedback.
It's supposed to be a Beta Test, not a head start.
As far as I'm concerned, keeping what you've earned up to this point is just CCP's way of saying "thank you for your service". |

I would not quit playing if they did a reset. Still if they did ccp must refund ALL aur spent on sp boosters. Also they would have to leave anything already purchased with aur or event items in the account. This does not include used items like modules and dropsuits. These may have helped gain aur for the player. But they are an indirect contribution at best unlike boosters.
I personally can't see why they would not reset. New players are going to be on a semi-level playing field. Us that have been playing will still have an advantage. We know how the game works they don't. We know how far x weapon shoots. We know the exatct effect of putting sp into x stat. We know how x vehicle handles/controls. We know the maps and all the best spots on them. We know how effective x module on x dropsuits or vehicle will be. Heck we even if it will fit on there before we buy it. On top of all this we will have items that a new player can't get at all. Well unless one of us trades or sells it to them.(whenever we get that ability)

I have been in the closed beta since May 2012, this game is in constant improvement, I call it an everlasting beta, because even 4 years from now, they will keep improving it, so it doesen't matter wheter this game is called beta or final, it will always be beta to me. In the past years we've had about (hard to remember) 3-4 resets, and we all timers still stucked with it. This "beta" has been opened to the public now for 3-4 months, meaning the game has been opened (released) for anyone to play for 3-4 months. 10 points if you can name one game that resets after 3-4 months of release. If someone wanted to be on the same playing field, no one stopped anyone from joining when the "beta" went open several months ago, if they are just discovering the game, well it is the same as any MMO they are not going to reset just because someone joined in late. Anyway that is the way I see it. When the beta went public, CCP promised the folks who were in closed beta that this was the last time their SP was being reset, and they are holding true to their promise.
And to answer the question posted for the topic, no I would not leave even if they did a reset, this is an awesome game in constant improvement, those complaining in the forums about game issues did not see how the game was a year ago, or have any ideas of the improvements since then. |

Open beta =/= released.
Not everyone wants to play a stripped-down, unfinished, unpolished beta version and all the bugs and problems associated with it, and choose to wait for us beta testers to deal with and find the problems, so they can enjoy the (more) finished game upon it's official release.
Despite the fact that it's been in open beta for 3-4 months, a beta is still a beta, the "official" full release of the game is not until the 14th, and I still cannot think of a single game that has not reset upon it's official release, whether it be from a closed, private, or public beta. |

You do understand the point of a beta right?
It isn't for you to grind like crazy and get a head start...
Its to provide feedback on all elements of the game and to report bugs should you come across them...
If they had said from the start that all progression is being reset at launch would you still have played as much? |

Well, betas typically don't have real money transactions, including ones that only exist to speed progress. It would be a huge breach of trust considering that. |

I wouldn't expect a reset to include real money items without a full-value refund (in Aurum, for example).
That would be unreasonable, and I don't think anyone is suggesting that it should. |

My only gripe with CCP right now is the issue with the BPO and them not keeping their promise. If I want my money back, I need to fully reset my character... that is total BS. Might be okay with it if everyone was reset never the less, would even the playing fields for everyone. Or a simple BPO refund based on time of purchase would do the trick too. |

A reset would only **** off every old players and bring in a couple new ones for some fancy 'release' event.
But then the new players quit anyways. The old players now have quit. Anyone who started at the fresh reset after two months would have tons more SP than anyone and we're back to square one
No reset. It's a stupid idea. It solves nothing, postpones a "problem". Realize that anyone who would want to play this game will. And anyone who would not, won't stick around very long if they even try it.

People have to remember the SP they "earned" was during Beta. Sure I would expect some (aur) reimbursement of the boosters I've used/bought, but yes I would support a total wipe of the SP accrued so far.
I've been playing for just over 10 days, have about 2.4m SP between 2 characters, those "new" players that "could" arrive on the 14th will be in for a shock when the meet up with the proto boys (and girls).
Many games wipe SP once they come out of beta to ensure there is a level playing field. The beta phase was for testing not grinding SP, so don't QQ if CCP decides to wipe your "hard work" overnight |

Yes, I would definitely quit. I have been through complete resets that I put a lot of effort into.
This SP Reset was nearly as bad because they removed many skills and made many functions nearly impossible to get back. Logi Bro takes ~2M SP to enable using my existing Sever which is now Mimmatar. To get back to where I was there needs to be ~20M more SP in my account. That is a lot of grinding and Uprising is mostly grinding without the fun of being able to try out different things as we are forced into specialization.
Another reset would just flat do me in. Of course, I would be able to turn my PS3 off and never turn it on again.

Beta is for mass testing, simple, how many of you have actually submitted bug reports instead of bleating on the forums? Beta isn't for grinding and getting ahead, its for finding issues and reporting them correctly so they can be fixed.
The game isn't released yet so CCP can do as they wish. I really do doubt those people that have abused the Beta phased in the hopes to get ahead will actually leave and if they do, so what, this game is going to be around for a while. |

is irrelevant they could take away the cap, and i still wouldn't continue playing this game its to unbalanced every build there is a new fav wep and suit that trumps everything else and im sick of it. have are destroyed all vehicles are ruined th balance has gone from bad to worse with the transition from chromosome to uprising. the only thing devs got right in uprising was the name and thats prollu because it would take a complete fool not to recognize the uproar that would result from this ****** build. assuming this game were balanced your express issue wouldnt matter becuase come the 14th all the pros would leave pub matches. but as is most people who have been seriously playing this game for the past year have already left or they are just waiting for a miracle on the fourteenth as i am. and will leave as soon as disappointment hits again. which if based on ccp's record it will end in disappointment |

So true. Being a free game, it is very important that the new players' VERY FIRST impression be an enjoyable one.
If they hop into their first match and are completely outmatched by better-geared, more experienced players, there is absolutely nothing preventing them from just deleting the game and moving on.
"Dust? Yeah, I tried it, got my ass kicked, didn't like it. Oh well, at least it didn't cost me anything."
If they enjoy themselves, they'll be more likely to stick around and, hopefully, some will spend money.
They don't even have to win, they only have to feel like they have the potential to win. This won't happen if they're thrown to the wolves, against seemingly unfair, unsurmountable odds, the very first time they play.
Any game needs new players, especially at launch, in order to thrive and survive. You cannot have a successful game by only catering to a handful of hardcore players. People need to stop thinking in selfish terms of how a reset would affect them personally, and start thinking about what is good for the game itself, and it's future.
There's a reason nearly every other game in existence has reset their players at the end of the beta. |

your going to be getting lots of things, very important things like:
-critical game/map knowledge, including weapons and where to use them, which vehicles to use on certain maps, and which loadout to go with. -experience with multiple weapon types, and strategies, including modules and equipment usage and combinations as well. -experience with dropsuits and which one suits your playstyle best.
the list could actually probably more than double in length, unfortunately I'm too azy right now. |

Aditional: Everyone who invested their hard earned cash on any type of AUR purchases should be given (opinion) :
1- 500k (example of starter SP, like its a new account) + Additional SP whereby X Amount of Aur = X Amount Additional SP (could be 10; 5000; 50,000 whatever)
and/or
2- Increased SP Earned per match and/or Increased ISK earned per match, during X Amount of Time (according to AUR spent).
I don't think that would even be necessary, just refunding spent aurum and used items, would be enough. |

Could care less been playing since closed beta, the trick i found with dust is to passive skill. Dust was made for casul gamers thiswhole time i played dust twice a month. Just to check how many sp accured in that time period. This allowed me to play other games.
Dust is a grind and then some but the passive skilling is awesome. I don't have to play more than once or twice a month. Plus i believe we will have double xp next week.

No I would not quit So true. Oh well, at least it didn't cost me anything." If they enjoy themselves, they'll be more likely to stick around and, hopefully, some will spend money.
This, 1000x times this.
We need to understand that attracting and retaining new players is the key to Dust's success and survival. It is a F2P game, so there is practically zero investment on the part of the new player - this means they have zero loss if they just delete the game in disgust after getting pubstomped by a 6-man squad which wipes everyone away in their protogear and two HAVs.
Us vets get a huge headstart by knowing the game, maps, and skill system already. We don't need up to 15m SP headstart by the 14th to make the disparity even wider.
Reset for everyone all the way. |

The question is: Would you quit if everyone's SP was reset.
You've already quit, so it is essentially a non-issue for you, since you are no longer playing anyway.
Would YOU or wouldn't YOU quit, is a moot point. |

Noobs will get stumped on, reset or not, that simply is a fact. Skills and weapons aren't the only things that makes a corp dangerous. Teamwork, communication, gungame and routine is what should scare them... not the fact one equipped an advanced or proto suit.
The matchmaking problems have already been pointed out numerous times, and that IS the only solution for this. Make 'noob' only matches. ANY other solution will NOT prevent them from being bulldozered by squads that know how to play - since they have been doing so for almost a year.

No, I wouldn't quit. In fact, I think it's a valid suggestion and consideration. I think everyone needs to take a step back and take a look at this from a high level point of view. Think of this from a business perspective. What is the purpose of any true business? It's to make money. There can be billions of different ways to make that money, but the goal at the end of the day is to make money.
CCP has to constantly think about this while we gamers don't. Yes, they want to put out a great product in order to retain the current customers. But a major key is to also attract new ones. As long as there is a gain in customers, that is a win for CCP. I'm more than positive they've had these discussions. They have to weigh out the positives and negatives of doing a full reset. How many players will they lose? And then they compare that to how many new customers will start this game on the 14th and retain this game after getting stomped repeatedly, if there isn't a reset.
My personal opinion is that a large majority of new players will not stick with this game. It might appeal to them in concept and play style and potential, but they will get very tired of going up against us veterans with proto gear and leveled out skills. As has been stated before, new players have no reason to stick with this game; they don't pay anything for it, and they can easily delete it from their HD. So, what will retain a large majority of these players and incentivize them to spend real money?
If CCP doesn't make money with this game, then there won't be a game to play. There has to be sacrifice in order for the game to continue and evolve.
I wouldn't be pleased with a full reset, but I would completely understand it. And I truly feel that most players--even based on this post--would stick around and still play. Yes, CCP would lose some of the veterans, but in comparison to how many new players would pick up the game and then stick with it (and spend tons of $$$$), I think it's a no brainer.
I think there are other ways to solve these issues, but this thread is intended for discussion on a full reset.

There aren't enough players for any matchmaking system to work properly, unless you and many others are willing to wait for minutes if not tens of minutes to get matched with players of similar skill/gear. N00bs are even less likely to do that than vets. |

No, why ? I invested my time playing for that SP, maybe the new guys should do that too? What do you wanna do reset SP every 2-3 months to keep it fair to people who are gonna quit anyways ?
I used to test from time to time and run my 0 sp spend alt inbetween stacked teams and i could run 17/3 with basic fittings & militia AR with no skills.
Though right now with how aiming works (or doesnt work) i won't be around if they cannot fix this, no matter how much SP i got. |

While I agree that a proper matchmaking system would solve the problem, it is a solution planned for the future.
Unless they plan on implementing this matchmaking system in the next 5 days, it won't do anything to prevent the new players who will inevitably become discouraged by being thrown against high-level, over-geared, experienced players RIGHT NOW.
At least with a full reset, when they DO get beat by a better player, it will be evident that they lost to a more SKILLED opponent, and not just a better-geared one, who happened to have head-start prior to launch. |

By then, hopefully, they'll have a proper matchmaking system in place.
But first things first: they have to get past launch without new players feeling that they don't stand a chance against the more experienced, better skilled, and far better equipped Beta vets. |

You obviously didn't pay attention to anything that CCP stated pre-Chromosome, including the fact that "bar something catastrophic, no more resets."
I put more time and money into this game because of the incentive promised by CCP. I don't have much free time, working across two jobs 6 days a week. If I knew that all that I expended would be removed from me in a puff of smoke guaranteed, I would not nearly have put this much effort in, and played much more casually and critically like i did in previous builds. Service?? I assume you guys are smart. A couple points you need to know.
-launch is just a term(nothing has actually changed)
- sp gap will open again just a matter of time
- the only sure way to fix the issue is improve match making( easiest for fewest heartbreak all around)
- resetting sp is too much of a risk meaning ccp has no idea how many players will remain
-also ccp has nointention of advertising this release(yet)
They won't reset sp but if they did and the game is like it is now? Yes in a heartbeat |

Another person who obviously is blind and using a common definition of beta test to ignore direct statements from the developers. CCP stated that as a gift for being beta testers we would get a 2 week headstart on open beta members and that bar something catastrophic there would be no reset. That is an incentive statement to encourage people to spend even more of their time playing this game in beta with the expectation that they will keep the progress they earned upon "commercial release" (which as Nikia already pointed out, isn't going to change much other than 3 guns and PC unless CCP does some rampant fixing in the next 5 days). Please get some actual logic to use in this debate. |

If they did a reset.......it wouldn't bother me in the leaste, I've been through my fair share of resets, it's water off a ducks back. No I won't leave.
Well if its so... think its gnna be bored 4 u as a hardcore fanboy, after killing urself 80 times every match cuz theres no one to shoot at, beside working ur ass off in real life to buy aur ingame to keep dust alive by urself ;p cuz most people CARE about de money/time they have spendd in dust514 |

I would quit. EVEN with an AUR or BOOSTER refund, the time invested is something you cant give me back. |

Giving feedback on bugs/glitches/exploits etc, played with some cool people, took part in events etc, endured reset after reset after reset on each new build, gone through 2 ps3's (fatties) I like the connection it has with eve. Unfortunately I have no time to play eve and this is a way for me to be part of new eden without having to become a recluse. For no reason. Sp reset is a bandage to the issue at hand think long term not ur current butthurt.
If nothing else if ur even capable think about dust as a whole. What does a reset do for any of the current issues? Not only that talking about this pointless **** takes away from the issues let fix them not waste time. |

I'm in this for the long run, if we lose 4 months of beta skill points that's not such a bad thing. This must be your first beta. This is the first beta that I have ever seen let you keep what you got during beta, in the release. This. It's pretty strange that people seem to take it for granted there's no reset at launch, when this is the only game which doesn't have a reset. Every beta has a reset at launch. As if it's not enough of an advantage that beta players know the game inside and out, now CCP is giving us up to 10m SP on top of that.
First off this game is a marathon, not a sprint. So if we were all reset tomorrow then oh freakin' well. Here we go again.
That being said, why is keeping SP from an Open Beta, that anyone with a PS3 could have downloaded an played since January 22nd, that big a deal? Everyone who can play the game at "release" could have been playing for the last 3 1/2 months just like me. So their loss I guess. It is not like someone six months from now is not going to download Dust 514 for the first time and expect everyone to be reset because he/she was late to the party. So it is a moot point.
Besides, I get killed by people in Militia Gear every day I play. Someone can always get the drop on you. This game is about 25% Skill Points and 75% actual FPS skill. |

I think the best solution to the 'problems' would be to use the same systems 'roughly' put into place in EvE into Dust.
By this I mean something similar to having different 'locations' for battles.
High sec - low isk reward - low chance for high end loot - after a total of X mil (5?) sp for combatants you gain no active sp from the match
Low sec - medium isk rewards - medium chance for high end loot - after X (10) mil, no active
Null sec - high isk rewards - high chance for high end loot - no caps
This would offer the same risk reward present in EvE but would also allow for the the noobs to have a place in the sandbox to cut their teeth and freedom but a time waisting deterent for vets to pubstomp.
CCP, you're welcome. I expect the check is in the mail? |

As a new player i wouldn't mind.
I don't know if its a common thing, as i have seen a lot about the assault rifle being OP.
But I have had to resort to sniper tactics just to feel like I'm doing something and not getting smashed.
I hope something happens before the release date or I'll have to play something that is meant for grinding...

No.
However, CCP needs to bump up the starting SP to be commensurate with their increase in SP multipliers. 500k SP is jack sh*t compared to the SP inflation.
Dust514 is the only MMO I know that wont reset skills right before release and that boggles my mind. If players complain about time wasted, well,
1. That's beta. You signed a Eula that allows CCP to reset at their whim once release comes. Acting like a self-absorbed, elitist, thinks-who-deserves-everything pr*ck doesn't change what you agreed to. Plain and simple 2. If CCP wants to cater to both new players and old - increase the starting SP to 1 million and if they're feeling extra generous do another x3 SP event to celebrate the release
Anyway, reset is a solution to a lot of issues with the game, the new vs old sp gap, the merc pack refund debate, the BPO debate, the skills not working right debate. Honestly, if CCP is being bullied by elitist closed/open beta people then the game will just get worse and worse. Listen to reasonable discussions and not people who demand entitlement for playing a free game.
Players who actually stay despite the bugs, resets and what-nots are the people who truly see the potential of this game and will be the driving force in making the game successful.

No it doesn't. What it tells me is that I have already had to start from 500k twice now and I am not willing to go a third round.

The chances are pretty much absolute, if this were my first time around, that I would stay with it, seeing as how I've done it twice now. Not interested in going for a third though. |

tbh i dont have that much of SP but i am just fine that beta testers keep their sp for the valuable time spent on a glitchy and buggy beta game.
New players have to adapt. That is the world of New Eden. It is the same in EVE and new players do succeed to survive. Only worry is that in EVE new players have lots of free room. In dust new guys will run a lot into the proto suits if the matchmaking is not done right.
A hope is that CCP also does FW more meaningful. A nice lp store for example so it drives away protosuits from highsec battles.
Good thing is that PC will be out for the launch and it will keep busy quite a few protosuit guys. |

Not sure. As a logibro it would take an awful while to get myself back into my bumblebee suit with the skill tree as it is not to mention the equipment. I like the support play-style so just running as militia with one equipment slot would hamper my enjoyment of the game. Introduction of militia logi suits would help, but it would still take some time to get equipment and core skills up to something halfway decent.
edit: I started playing in February and I have a little over 5 million SP. And I play games in bursts so it would take me months to get back to that. |

If you have been around for awhile and quit now over a reset , your just being a baby because you can't pwn noobs on release.. we all got reset several times throughout this beta. I for one believe a reset is needed just for the fact of how crap the matchmaking still is, and low player count can not be the factor for this.. with several thousand playing and still getting guys in games with 1.5 mil sp vs guys with 12+ mil sp. Like the op mentioned, those who will most likely quit will be those who are new and starting out by getting thier k/d ruined all day by guys who far exceed their skill limits. of course scrubs will still get pwnd no matter what... but atleast they will know it's because they just suck and can get better not because the guys they going against have a major game launch sp crutch. so as for a rest.. hell yeh we need one, and I wouldn't mind one |

Part of a full char reset would be that it also fixes Mercenary Pack refund issues and general AUR refund issues if implemented correctly - ie. you get AUR refunded for the boosters you used.
In fact, full char reset is the only option which would enable CCP to clear their name, as the current non-solution offered by CCP for Merc Pack refund and other compromises on the table still leave CCP being in breach of contract. |
