If I'm not mistaken, I believe it is quite uncommon for a Beta-tester's progression earned during a Beta to carry over after the final release of a game.
In most cases, there is a full stat-wipe/reset at launch, and everyone starts from scratch, at square one.
Although I do feel that a full refund for Aurum spent would only be fair. |

If yes then doesn't that tell you that the SP leveling system is broken?
If yes doesn't that tell you game play is really not all that fun anymore with the update?
If yes then how do you think a new player feels when they come here and not only start with 500K Sp but have to go up against people with 8 million SP? What chance is there that if you were them that you would stay for very long? Yes I would. And thats there problem for playing the game late. We played since closed beta, and earned out SP. How would you feel if you been playing this game trying to get 10mil sp, then all of a sudden they say restart from 500,000 sp... Dafuq.... - Geth
Technically, you haven't been "playing this game", you've been voluntarily testing an unfinished product in order to evaluate it and provide feedback.
It's supposed to be a Beta Test, not a head start.
As far as I'm concerned, keeping what you've earned up to this point is just CCP's way of saying "thank you for your service". |

Full reset on launch.
Anyone that has bought AUR or the packs will get it as if they had never spent it.
Out of interest can anyone here name a game that was released and the progress for beta testers was rolled over to give them an unfair advantage against new players?
10 points for the person that can!
I've been trying, but I can't think of any.
If there is one, it is the rare exception to the rule. |

Eventually, but the weekly SP Cap would prolong this, and it wouldn't be nearly as bad as people having a full year head start on launch day. |

LuckyLuke Wargan wrote:I have been in the closed beta since May 2012, this game is in constant improvement, I call it an everlasting beta, because even 4 years from now, they will keep improving it, so it doesen't matter wheter this game is called beta or final, it will always be beta to me. In the past years we've had about (hard to remember) 3-4 resets, and we all timers still stucked with it. This "beta" has been opened to the public now for 3-4 months, meaning the game has been opened (released) for anyone to play for 3-4 months. 10 points if you can name one game that resets after 3-4 months of release. If someone wanted to be on the same playing field, no one stopped anyone from joining when the "beta" went open several months ago, if they are just discovering the game, well it is the same as any MMO they are not going to reset just because someone joined in late. Anyway that is the way I see it. When the beta went public, CCP promised the folks who were in closed beta that this was the last time their SP was being reset, and they are holding true to their promise.
And to answer the question posted for the topic, no I would not leave even if they did a reset, this is an awesome game in constant improvement, those complaining in the forums about game issues did not see how the game was a year ago, or have any ideas of the improvements since then.
Open beta =/= released.
Not everyone wants to play a stripped-down, unfinished, unpolished beta version and all the bugs and problems associated with it, and choose to wait for us beta testers to deal with and find the problems, so they can enjoy the (more) finished game upon it's official release.
Despite the fact that it's been in open beta for 3-4 months, a beta is still a beta, the "official" full release of the game is not until the 14th, and I still cannot think of a single game that has not reset upon it's official release, whether it be from a closed, private, or public beta. |

I didn't grind away these last 3 months to watch all that SP saved up disappear. You do understand the point of a beta right? It isn't for you to grind like crazy and get a head start... Its to provide feedback on all elements of the game and to report bugs should you come across them... If they had said from the start that all progression is being reset at launch would you still have played as much? Well, betas typically don't have real money transactions, including ones that only exist to speed progress. It would be a huge breach of trust considering that.
I wouldn't expect a reset to include real money items without a full-value refund (in Aurum, for example).
That would be unreasonable, and I don't think anyone is suggesting that it should. |

Eventually, yes, but to nowhere near the same degree as would be caused by people having a gazillion SP head-start on launch day. |

Vane Arcadia wrote:They should reset - fully on release. How do CCP,expect to encourage new players to stay. As a free game there isn't any financial encouragement to play more than a couple of rounds when they start. The only way to get people to stay is too make it fun. There is a real danger that the game will be stuck with a corp of old players which will diminish over time.
No I would not quit
So true. Being a free game, it is very important that the new players' VERY FIRST impression be an enjoyable one.
If they hop into their first match and are completely outmatched by better-geared, more experienced players, there is absolutely nothing preventing them from just deleting the game and moving on.
"Dust? Yeah, I tried it, got my ass kicked, didn't like it. Oh well, at least it didn't cost me anything."
If they enjoy themselves, they'll be more likely to stick around and, hopefully, some will spend money.
They don't even have to win, they only have to feel like they have the potential to win. This won't happen if they're thrown to the wolves, against seemingly unfair, unsurmountable odds, the very first time they play.
Any game needs new players, especially at launch, in order to thrive and survive. You cannot have a successful game by only catering to a handful of hardcore players. People need to stop thinking in selfish terms of how a reset would affect them personally, and start thinking about what is good for the game itself, and it's future.
There's a reason nearly every other game in existence has reset their players at the end of the beta. |

The question is: Would you quit if everyone's SP was reset.
You've already quit, so it is essentially a non-issue for you, since you are no longer playing anyway.
Would YOU or wouldn't YOU quit, is a moot point. |

ANY other solution will NOT prevent them from being bulldozered by squads that know how to play - since they have been doing so for almost a year. There aren't enough players for any matchmaking system to work properly, unless you and many others are willing to wait for minutes if not tens of minutes to get matched with players of similar skill/gear. N00bs are even less likely to do that than vets.
While I agree that a proper matchmaking system would solve the problem, it is a solution planned for the future.
Unless they plan on implementing this matchmaking system in the next 5 days, it won't do anything to prevent the new players who will inevitably become discouraged by being thrown against high-level, over-geared, experienced players RIGHT NOW.
At least with a full reset, when they DO get beat by a better player, it will be evident that they lost to a more SKILLED opponent, and not just a better-geared one, who happened to have head-start prior to launch. |

Sgt Buttscratch wrote:No, but i would only play to cap, then go play games where I make constant progress.
But the idea would be good for the game, until 4 months after release when everyone starts saying how hard it is for newer players...
By then, hopefully, they'll have a proper matchmaking system in place.
But first things first: they have to get past launch without new players feeling that they don't stand a chance against the more experienced, better skilled, and far better equipped Beta vets. |
