Ok guys so after surfing the forums since I started playing the beta I have noticed a lot of players that are new the EVE Universe are struggling to get their heads about all of this stuff(tm) that comes so naturally to us EVE players. So I am making this thread to help them out. I will be adding more as the days go by.
I would also like to ask devs to maybe if this thread proves useful to maybe sticky it so all new players can see it.
As well I would like any of you EVE players that notice something that I have missed or want to add something please post and I will edit in the things that look good to add. Also players that are new and have more questions I will look at those as well and try and help you out!
Disclaimer: initially typed late at night, please forgive grammar/spelling!
First some EVE lore:
Timeline of eve online lore thank you Miles Alari for suggesting this
The game is set thousands of years in the future in a distant galaxy. This galaxy is populated by a group of humans that were descendants of Earth colonizers that left earth and departed through A wormhole to this new universe they called New Eden. Things were all good for awhile until the Wormhole closed cutting off the inhabitants from the milky way. None of the worlds where developed enough to sutain the technology brought with the colonist. Many died centuries passed humanity survived. Technology did not. After thousands of years 4 main factions emerged and took to the skies once more and New Eden became sprawling with civilization. The main factions being Caldari, Amarr, Gallente, and Minmatar. There is a whole life time worth of history and lore surrounding each race so I will just TL;DR it.
Amarr are all very devoted to religion and believe they are the beacon of light in the universe and everyone should be like them. They are the most powerful faction in New Eden. They are usually associated with gold painted ships based around armor and lasers usually in a phallus shape.
The Caldari are a hyper sort of capitalistic society, very utilitarian, their government is mostly an oligarchy with a Caldari State banner but mostly ran by a few major corporations. They are usually associated with ships that use missiles lotsa shields and a very annoying battlecruiser class ship.
The Gallente are a very freedom oriented society, hedonistic, democratic, will spill their own blood to attain the freedom of others. They are associated with blasters, railguns, and armored ships. The Gallente are also known to use Drones as main armaments to their ships.
The Minmatar use to be enslaved to the Amarr Empire until the Gallente helped them fight a war to free themselves. The Minmatar are a tribal society and very well barbaric. They are larger than most other races and tend to not play well with others. They are the freedom fighters, the brutes, the bar fighters. They are associated with a mix of projectile and missile weapons (mostly projectile) a mix of armor and shield tanking ships (mostly shield). A lot of their ships are very good at fast hit and run tactics using kiting, overwhelming damage and speed to defeat opponents. By far my favorite race of ships to use in EVE
The galaxy in eve is divided into 3 main areas, High sec in this area players are GÇ£mostlyGÇ¥ safe. I say mostly because EVE is a game based on brutality, trust, breaking of trust, and spaceships. It is a very dark world filled with many dangers the main of which is other players. While in high sec you feel the presence of a police force that will enforce the basic laws. As well as the looming sentry guns. But this will not save you from other players killing you in quick brutal ways. High sec will be where the GÇ£pubGÇ¥ games in Dust will occur. Low sec is another area in EVE it is a GÇ£lessGÇ¥ safe area. You still have sentry guns but the police are not present to save you. This is where pirates live and thrive. They like to kill noobs. 0.0/null sec is the final frontier of eve so to speak. Kind of like the GÇ£endgameGÇ¥ it is where the alliances and corporations of eve go to do battle over resources and space. Many MLP spacedongs have met their end here. This is completely lawless and controlled almost entirely by players. There are a few regions where NPC Pirate factions hold territory but these are mostly considered pvp zones where anyone can go to pewpew. Low sec and 0.0 is where the clan/corporation battles will happen in dust.
FITTING/DROP SUITS
The fitting window is a lot of the time the scariest thing a non EVE player will see. I will try and dispel some of the magic and spreadsheet behind this thing.
Ok some fitting FAQ:
1. Each drop suit will have different over-arching non specific play style associated with it. 2. Each player will tailor their skills to their own play style which they will then use to select and fit a drop suit or many suits. 3. You are BY NO MEANS restricted to one play style or one suit or one fit for a type of suit. 4. Each suit has different slot layouts, these slots are where you fit modules/equipment. 5. EACH ITEM/MODULE/SUIT/VEHICLE/EVERYTHING needs skills to be fitted/used with the exception of militia items.
SLOTS:
( - - ) = High-Powered Module's - Usually shield tank mods/ damage mods ( ' ) = Grenades not to be confused with low powered slots - put nads h'rr ( S ) = side arm slot GÇô (currently) put pistols/ SMGs here ( ' ) = Low-Powered Module's - Usually Armor mods/drugs ( L ) = Light weapons - (currently) Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Snipers, Swarm Launchers ( H ) = Heavy weapons GÇô (currently) HMG, Forge Gun as well as any light weapons ( box thing) = equipment - here you put things like Drop Uplinks (mobile spawn points), Remote Explosives, Nanite In |

PowerGrid/CPU:
Each module in the game requires powergrid and CPU. You only have so much in each suit and it can be modified by certain skills, to increase the suits total amount/reduce module need. You cannot go over this amount when fitting your suit so weigh the pros/cons of each mod to fit your play style.
Drop suits: These are you and they are your weapons they are your armor and they are you. When you die your mind will be downloaded and will be deployed in another drop suit.
Now for a quick overview of the currently available suits:
I will overview each type of suit because I assume each race will get its variant. Then I will specify each currently available suit to maybe help you make a choice =)
Assault Suits: If you prefer run and gun, want to be able to take a few hits and fit a decent tank/damage modifier. But still have some versatility and ability to lay down support such as mobile spawn points or nano hives. This might be your choice. It is a moderate base speed suit that packs a punch. Do not take this however as you are invincible. A heavy can still chew you up in just a few hits. But don't sweat it because your heavy hitting assault rifles can light him up like a Christmas tree.
Caldari Assualt: You have more high powered module slots ( - - ) than most other suits, this allows you to fit more shield tanking modules or more damage mods if you desire. You will however not have many low slots ( ' )for armor tanking or other low slot oriented modules. You have a L slot which is a light weapon slot which you can fit light weapons (shotguns,assault-rifles, snipers, swarmlaunchers, etc) You cannot fit things that require a H slot or a heavy weapon slot (HMG,Forge gun, etc). You get 1 infantry equipment slot until the higher level variants of this suit.
Scout Suits: If you want to be that sneaky fast tweaky bastard that no one can hit, or afford to be hit by. This suit might be for you. You are paper thin but fast as lightning. You specialize in flanking the enemy or just downright making them spin right round baby. You are the king of hit and run. Future releases promise the ability to cloak for this suit, Mostly associated with shotguns, and snipers due to the maneuverability and common conception of the name of the suit. If you take hits you will die. If you keep moving and play smart you will come out on top of any battle.
Gallente Scout: You have an even number of High-Powered and Low-Powered module slots, for great diversity in fittings and to compensate for your very minimal tank. However beware when fitting armor mods in those lows. These modules induce a speed and mobility penalty!! You also get to utilize 1 equipment slot for some very nice possibilities of flanking the enemy and causing havoc in the rear maybe with a mobile spawn point to drop your team from behind or maybe high explosives to take out a tank. You have around the same PG and CPU of a Caldari Assault suit and can outrun any one on the battlefield. Get out there and race to victory. |

Heavy Suits: You are the terror of the battlefield. The sight of you induces panic among the enemy ranks. You are a slow but heavily armored beast. You provide cover for your friendly suits and take the hits so they don't have to. Do not mistake this tank like behavior to mean a lack of firepower. You can carry Heavy Weapons which will tear apart the ranks of your enemy. Whether you carry a heavy machine gun to mow down enemy suits or a forge gun to defeat vehicles and enemy installations you are a very tough target. Do not mistake this for a win button. You can be destroyed in seconds by a well placed grenade a sneaky scout with explosives, team tactics, or even a very skilled player who will circle around you faster than you can turn. Do not despair at these flaws because you are a welcomed sight for friendlies and a sight of despair for any enemy.
Amarr Heavy: This suit has a slot layout that caters to a heavy hitting armor tanked behemoth. You do however lack the slot for equipment but this is not a huge deal because you sport the H slot. In this slot you can fit weapons that will wreck havoc on the battlefield. You have a good amount of High-Powered module slots to fill with damage mods or even shield mods if you think that is right. You have more Low-Powered slots than most suits so you can armor tank your suit. The Amarr suit stays true to the lore when it comes to tanking. This suit Has ARMOR OF ARMOR, use it but do not use it lightly. You can take a lot of hits from most foes. But a few sniper rounds or grenades or even a high tier assault rifle in the hands of a marksman and you will be taken out very easily. So beware of your speed and positioning and you will kill at a whim and lead your team to victory.
Logistics Suits: Akin to the medics and engineers of other games but rolled into one suit. You are the hero of the battlefield. You keep your team moving. You heal teammates, revive the dead, repair the vehicles, supply the ammo, plant the demo, make mobile spawn points. You are a Swiss army knife of a drop suite. You are not as paper thin as many will think. They will quickly pay for this with the right amount of gunfire. Not very utilized in the current stage of the beta with the lack of squad tactics but it is easy to see how essential this suit will be on the battlefields of null and low sec. It will take a special tactically team oriented player to suit up as logistics. Commanders will love you, enemies will loath you. Is the logistics suit right for you?
Minmatar Logistics: This suit by far I think has the nicest yet puzzling slot layout. You have more High-Powered and Low-Powered slots than most other suits, you have MANY more equipment slots and your CPU rivals that of the heavy suit. I can see that some very interesting fits will come out of this suit. It is however focused on helping your team achieve victory. Most of this variant of suits has 3 equipment slots providing a lot of options to achieve your goal. Being Minmatar could maybe explain the even number of High-Powered and Low-Powered slots seeing as Minmatar can generally either armor or shield tank. You only have a Light Weapon and grenade slot as far as armament goes so keep a careful eye on your clip level. I have yet to play this suit so I do not have many play style tips or awesome hook lines, neither have I seen many people using it. It is so far a very under utilized suit due to not many mechanics in place to promote its use on a team level. Though I bet in a very team oriented environment this suit will be worth its weight in gold. Future patches will include a remote armor repairer to help repair your teammates armor actively during a fight. See where this is going? I look forward to many hours in this suit. It will cater to a very specific and small group of players just as the logistics ship in eve online does. Will you be a part of this close knit community of versatile players?
FITS:
Ok all well and good but how does this help me know what to fit, what setup I should use? Well there are currently x number of fits you can come up with because of the number of mods available. What is the fun of the beta though if you can't just figure it out yourself. When the game goes live there will be THOUSANDS of different load outs you will be able to create and customize. The best way to come up with a fit if you are completely lost is to decide. OK what is it I want to specialize in with this fit. Do I want to be a awesome flanker? Do I want to be a heavy hitter with a lot of tank? Do I want to be mobile and versatile? Do I want to perform a niche role? From here you will pick a suit. After you choose a suit that will best allow you to complete this goal you will fit it with the modules you will need. A weapon that will best suit you for this role you want. You will then decide....do I want to armor tank? Shield tank? Or both? Then you will decide how much of it you want to do. Bare in mind each will have its own draw backs. You will then decide on which of the many different modules, which will help me complete my goal? And that is the most I can help you with specific fits. Play with it mess around this is what the beta is for! make sure if you make fits to keep them stocked (see market info) |

MARKET:
OMG SCARY is what some will say. It is a very confusing thing if you are not from a game like EVE. Basically the market in dust will be the same as the market in EVE. Players will harvest resources in EVE and build things like tanks weapons modules etc. They will then put these items on the market for us grunts to buy and kill each other with. Here you will buy these items with ISK, which you gain from completing contracts or very generous eve/dust players, or with Aurum which is a currency you can buy WITH REAL MONEY to get side-grade weapons/items (not better than normal weapons but usually easier to access with lower skills). IT IS NOT PAY TO WIN BY ANY MEANS.
When you first open the market you will see it is made up of many different tabs, some of which will seem familiar, weapons, drop suits, vehicles etc. Each tab when opened will open another subgroup of tabs. From here you will narrow down your search until you find the desired list of items. Once you find it you will see a list of many different items at different tiers. Militia (lowest tier) Standard (getting alittle better tier) Advanced (pretty good tier) Prototype (The best Tier right now). As you go up in tiers of items they will get progressively better and usually more expensive. Suits will have more slots/hp/speed etc, Weapons will do more damage or become more accurate. And Modules will become overall more useful. To discover how much better or what the skill requirements of each item is press the triangle button when highlighting the item.
When you want to buy an item press x to confirm and it will ask you how many you want to buy. Now at first you might think. ???! Well don't be alarmed but Dust is a game of consequence. When you die (with the exception of militia items) YOU LOSE WHATEVER WAS FIT ON THAT SUIT/VEHICLE. It is gone forever. So everything needs to be stocked that you use. As you use your drop suits they will be destroyed when you are killed. SO MAKE SURE TO RESTOCK THEM VIA THE MARKET, THE FITTING WINDOW VIA RESTOCK (INCREASE ABOVE THE AMOUNT YOU ALREADY HAVE TO RESTOCK TO THAT AMOUNT), OR EVEN IN GAME VIA THE FITTING WINDOW.
You can also buy/search through skills on the market, here you can see all of the skills currently in the game, more to be added soon. You can buy skill books here or via the available skills window on your skills tab in your character sheet.
SKILLS:
Dust is very different when it comes to skills. In Dust you gain skills by allocating sp (skill points). You gain a static amount every day/hour/minute/second this is a relatively low amount. You gain even more by playing the game and doing things in a match. After each match you will see you have gained X Sp and X Isk. This SP then gets added to your unallocated SP and your total SP. In your character sheet window under the skill tab you have two different tabs you can go between. The Current Skills tab which is a list of all skills that have been injected into your brain so to speak. These skills you can spend SP on to level up. Each skills can go from level 1-5 each progressively costing more SP. These skills are what make your character GÇ£betterGÇ¥. They improve the stats on your weapons. Reduce recoil/sway. Add HP to your suits, increase damage output of weapons. And UNLOCK NEW EQUIPMENT OR ITEMS. By training certain base skills such as engineering, drop suit command or vehicle command, you unlock the ability to train more skills. To see these skills you can currently buy and train you tab over to the Available skills tab. This tab will show your current skills and the skills you can buy and train. TO SEE A FULL LIST OF SKILLS AND TO SEE WHAT THEY REQUIRE TO BE TRAINED BEFORE GETTING ACCESS TO THEM CHECK THE MARKET TAB FOR SKILLS. Like I said before Every skills has a purpose. Whether it unlocks an item or improves your stats or improves the usefulness or ease of use of other items to give you AN EDGE NOT A GARUNTEED VICTORY.
For example I want to use snipers a lot. I join a game drop into the match in that cool recon suit with the sniper. AND WOW DOES IT SUCK. I can't hit anything, the sway is so outrageous. This is something a lot of newer players complain about on the forums. They do this because they do not know that there is a skill that actually reduces the sway of the sniper rifle. By training the Sniper Operation to V and then training the Sniper Proficiency skill you can reduce the sway of the sniper rifle. These kind of things are done intentionally by CCP so Dust dose not turn into just another FPS where anyone can pick up a sniper and drop shot a bunch of noobs. The same goes for any other weapon. The weapons/modules/suits/vehicles will become more effective statistically the more you train skills. REMEMBER THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU TRAIN THE SKILLS DOES NOT MEAN YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY DO BETTER. How well you do depends on your fps skill in complement with the skills you have trained. Also remember that just because some dude has more SP than you doesn't mean he is a better player than you. |

VEHICLES AND DROPS:
You may be wondering, wow that tank just decimated my face and killed everyone in the room I am in. How do I get one? Well first you will want to train vehicle operation up and train for one of the vehicles. Then you will want to buy the vehicle via the market and fit it up just like you would a drop suit via the fitting tab on the main menu. Remember that just like drop suits you can run out of vehicles or modules for your vehicles if you don't keep them stocked.
There are 3 main forms of vehicles:
Air Ships: assault and logistics varients, operate similarly to helicopters
HAV: Heavy Assault Vehicles, These are tanks.
LAV: Light Assault vehicles, these are your jeeps.
Now to get your vehicle in game, all you need to do is press the right button on the d-pad. This will bring up a options menu listing vehicles. Choose your vehicle and confirm. A transport will then drop off your vehicle at your current location. BEWARE as soon as it lands it is fair game to hop into. So make sure you are there to get in it so an ally doesn't steal it. Also be aware of where you are dropping it relative to the enemy. I say this not only because the enemy can hack it and steal it/blow it up, but because the drop ship bringing you your vehicle CAN BE SHOT DOWN. If this happens you just lost your vehicle. So beware if you like vehicle play and want to use your own vehicles on the battlefield. Use them carefully and stick with your team to be most effective on the battlefield!
In future patches there will be installation drops, these will however only be available to commanders aboard the MCC!
For Further Info as well as networking and chatting with other dust players, check out this post by Grideris who set us dust players up a nice IRC and C3 server to chat on without breaking the NDA. Here you can even find CCP GMs and DEVS some times!Post *thank you to nova knife for suggesting to add this* |

Some EVE online History. Now some of you may find this uninteresting. But when EVE online and DUST514 become interconnected, this is very important information to know when dealing with the EVE online community. These are memories seared into the minds of EVE online players and events that will be remember long after EVE online is gone. These events involved thousands of players, battles spanned hundreds of star systems. Hundreds of Billions of isk lost in single battles, and still effect EVE politics today.
Current events: http://evenews24.com/ <--I will probably get flamed for linking this
The First Great War: The First Great War of eve online also known as the Great Northern War, saw the creation of BOB. The first great war Another event considered important that happened after this war was the creation of Goonswarm the early days of goonswarm
The Second Great War: This to some is considered the single most devestating war of New Eden and would cause end of the at the time most hated alliance in eve BoB. It is the greatest player conflict of video game history. Shattered groups of thousands of players, trillions of isk was destroyed. Hundreds of systems BURNED as a consequence of this war. It also caused the victorious alliances to ironically become ultimately what they set out to destroy, becoming the new incarnation of BoB. The Second Great War part 1 The Second Great War part 2 Tortuga This is considered one of the early turning points of the war and to some considered the beginning of the end of BoB. It is one of the most important political and military events in EVE online's history.
The First Drone Region Wars: Youtube playlist of the war I think this is ONE of the most important conflicts in the games history, it has great storyline. An alliance is betrayed by its allys and fights an impossible battle against unwinnable odds to show the rest of EVE, you may be outnumbered and outgunned but you cannot kill an alliance's will to live, and any attempt to will cost you dearly. (ED was the first 0.0 alliance I was ever apart of)
EVE bank scandal: EVE bank Scandal Easily one of the Biggest heist in gaming history real money and in game money wise. A tale of betrayal on levels hard to imagine even in the real world.
I really wanted to include the recent DRF vs NC (to some considered the third great war) but I cannot find an overall account of the war. If someone could post it or make a credible account or detailed recap of the war I will add it to this post.
Ok so I know many EVE players will disagree with what I have included mostly because there is MUCH I left out, If you think there is a major war or event I should have included please post it, also please remember that I only have about 2800 characters left on this post haha. So links to other sources would be nice instead of just a huge post on this forum. Also some may disagree with me or my sources, if you do please post that you do in a civil manner and also include a link to a more credible source so I can fix it!
Also if you go to this forummy eve there are many eve online players who post amazing videos here for you to watch and download, beware some of these are large files.my personal favorite not because its PL but because its just a very well put together and fun to watch vid =) This video also very well represents the scale of the average to large 0.0 engagements, the kind that will rage over your heads in DUST 514 =)
And the biggest event in EVE-online's history. JITA RIOTS.
: outrage
: more overview of outrage
the result: CCP restructured the company, came out with a full apology to the community and fixed what was broken and promised to focus on the players not their pocket books. We got a great EVE online expansion and a refocused CCP that I am very proud of. |

Corporations and Alliances:
As it stands right now in the DUST 514 beta there are no player ran corporations or alliances like there are in EVE online. As the beta progresses and the game gets more near full release Corps and Alliances will be introduced into the game. A corp is the WoW, Guild Wars, MAG, CoD versions of clans and guilds. A group of players who like to do the same stuff, get together and have fun! An Alliances is this but on a corp level.
corps
alliances
Read those wiki's about corps and alliances and you will get a good idea of what they are in EVE. They will operate in the same manner with all the same mechanics in DUST. Your corp will be able to start wars, take contracts, work together, make money together, etc. You can also join an alliance that will have similar goals. EVE and DUST corps will be able to be in the same alliance.
Right now everyone is put into an NPC corp (default corps you will be in on character creation) based on region. However at game launch, your characters ethnicity will determine which NPC corp you are placed in. Now it is not required that you join a player corp, but it is generally accepted in EVE that if you don't join a player corp you will not have much fun at all. (subjective of course)
The size of these corps and alliances are determined by the corporations and alliance management skills a CEO must train in order to allow players into his or her corp.
While other games may have corps/guild/clans with members numbering in the hundreds. EVE online well... I'll let this do the talking. |

Gotta say Counter, kudos on the information. This'll help a lot of the incoming players that aren't familiar with the EVE universe or DUST's base concepts (10K or so in the next few weeks alone). I also liked the fact that you gave Minmatar a whole paragraph and the other races have just a few sentences, heh. Going Sebiestor with my merc and hoping the other Minmatar racial gear has strong ties to the their building habits when it finally hits the market.

Thanks, I hope it will do exactly as you say.
And the minmatar thing wasn't intentional I guess I just got wrapped up in my love for the play style they entail. I also forgot to mention Gallente rely a lot on Drones for damage >.<

As a suggestion counter logic, putting a link to this thread in your OP might help. The beta IRC channel is the best place for people to get answers to their questions in real time, and sometimes chat with the devs that are there, maybe catch some cool new info that is not yet released on the forums!

IGÇÖll keep an eye on this thread as there is a lot to take in. A LOT. IGÇÖm not versed in Eve, bar reading articles that pop up on a few sites detailing the odd goings on here and there. I found it fascinating, the large scale readthrough I read of how some guys managed to engineer a televised tournament win, but effectively filed it in my GÇ£I will never be able to penetrate thisGÇ¥ folder. Then this came along.
SO. I forged through Home and got myself in, and quickly dropped into a fight to have a look at what things were like. It reminded me of my first forays into Warhawk... 32 people being dumped into an arena and no idea what is going on, not knowing which bit of the map belongs to who, what the icons on the map are, where my base is, where my fellow man is. I THINK I was part of a GÇ£defend the A / B / CGÇ¥ markers effort, but to be truthful, I was rushed and not paying attention particularly well. I killed someone, hacked a turret, and then logged off as I needed to sleep.
Hopefully will get a bit more time on this later, trying to figure out how things like vehicles figure into this, dropships, tactics, suit setup, the whole works. Also I am hoping to create a character in the near future which doesnGÇÖt have this diabolical name.

Thanks for the information. I'm also new to the lore and that helped. Just a question. When I signed up last night I just created one class and I chose the Gallente as my preference. However when I sign in to these forums I'm part of the Amarr Empire? Unless these are just bugs of the closed beta.
Anyway for the other two classes can I choose to join other federations or am I just stuck with one? |

You are just randomly assigned a faction in the beta as of now. It is intentional. |

Nicely done there man.. Quick question for the floor.. Anyone know how the logi suit stacks up against the scout/assault in terms of armor? (not armor armor, but in survivability and hit taking?) Wondering if it's a better alternative to my assault suits as I like the support role. (It's what I always play in FPS) |

Dust is very different when it comes to skills. In Dust you gain skills by allocating sp (skill points). You gain a static amount every day/hour/minute/second this is a relatively low amount. You gain even more by playing the game and doing things in a match.
Only true in the BETA right now. The multiplier for active skilling is 4X atm. The primary source of skill points will be passive skilling.
EDIT:
Also, I vote for sticky as well.

Hey there, Great question. On the last night of this weekends beta I was able to talk to an avid logi player, and I picked his brain about the suit.
Basically as it stands right now in the beta, the logi suit is a little slower and not that much more durable than the assault suit so mobility is a pain, and you drop almost as fast. You have a lot more slots to work with however with the logi suit, but are hard to fit with a lot of high end mods because most of your cpu/pg is taken up by equipment.
So to answer your end question there, no I do not think it would be a good alternative to the assault suit for DIRECT combat with other assault suits. STATS WISE. Anyone could easily prove me wrong with sheer skill and a nice assault rifle. Just take eve for an example, the amount of theory crafting and weird fits that come up making previously uncommon ships omgwtfbbqamaing is pretty awesome. EDIT: forgot to mention that I do think that once remote repairers are introduced Logistics will be an awesome suit to use, and I intend on specializing in it =)
If you can come up with a fit that makes it a direct engagement option. Please share it!!! |

I am considering it, I have about 6 years of experience in EVE, as well as typical pc player fps experience and really like how DUST 514 is shaping up to be.
If enough interest is shown I shall indeed do it. |

This is great, Counter. I am new to the un'EVE'rse and have been having a hard time in decision making for suits and weapons. I haven't even touched on vehicles yet.
But this simple guide is great to reference now. I am very much a team player and I wasn't even sure what equipment would contribute to my team's efforts. (Mind you, the Beta has not encouraged much teamwork as yet, but that will change dramatically soon, I'm sure).
This thread should ABSOLUTELY be stickied! Keep updating, Counter. We are hanging on your every word! |

Maybe worth adding information about some EVE politics and major players as i expect groups like NCdot and the CFC and GSF are going to outsourcing a lot of work to start with it wouldn't do the dust bunnies any harm at all to be getting involved in with the metagame and the politics and picking sides and potential clients as early as this.. |

lol, no it won't. without the 4x multiplier, you get around 24k a day passive and 3k per match on your lowest, most empty, hack only match with the lowest possible "I've been playing for 24 hours straight" multiplier.
In light of that, I vote there should be a "current WP to SP multiplier" displayed at the close of each match so we can see if our time is worth it - it might keep the server a bit less crowded during peak hours if players can see if continued grinding is worth their time. |

I believe this is because all Militia items are BPO - Blueprint Originals as opposed to everything else which is BPC - Blueprint Copy. BPOs never run out, BPCs do. I'm not sure if there are any other BPO items on the market other than militia gear, but I'm interested to see how they handle BPOs for other items. I'm imagining they will be much more pricey than a regular BPC since a BPO is more a costly, but cheaper long-term investment. |

I dont think we'll see BPOs at all other than militia gear.
CCP hate the fact that BPOs are in EVE as its a fixed point in the economy. Hence why they don't reseed them when accounts with them go inactive or they get blown up in transport etc. |

Well, if we truly believe that CCP wants to integrate EVE/DUST economy fully, which I believe CCP has stated that they want to do so sometime after launch - then some of our items will be manufactured by EVE players (or possibly even DUST players). I can imagine CCP would introduce some BPOs in game for those that do inventing using the BPCs of the DUST items. But, I don't know that much about how inventing/manufacturing works within EVE other than the basics. |

I was thinking about this today, and I will add something. Please post any sources you may have that have over arching examples of some major historical events in EVE. I know there are a lot of things that happen in EVE that are considered "historical" to some players but not to "most" players. I will go through youtube and some other places where I know there are some nice things to add, but please do post here with some sources or stories you guys think are good to add to kind of, give dust players an idea of the history and impact EVE players have in EVE.

TBH, I don't actually do anything with my active accounts these years beyond fly around in T2-fit Velators* and check every week or two to make sure all of our POS have fuel blocks. But I so love watching what's happening among the player factions that I keep the accounts going even while focusing on raiding / whatever in other games. (*Rookie ships FTW -- in addition to two Warrior IIs, you can now fit two 150mm Railgun IIs with a MAPC... no wonder I'm hooked on militia gear in DUST 514. )

Believe it or not many people prefer using militia gear than isk gear. This is because militia gear is easy to make money in, this is important especially when you run around in 10k+ drop suits like me >.<
Well you can do a couple things to increase your effectiveness:
1. aim for the torso (head if you can) I say torso because you want to land as many shots as you can, the worst thing ever is dying between reloads. Head if you can beucase it does more damage but only if your confident you can hit it, I recommend it if you are fighting a heavy suit because it is slow and has a big head but against assault and scout suits they will be moving much faster so aim for their bodies.
2. Stick with teammates, even if you aren't able to talk to them directly stick with them and try and work together, safety in numbers. On the flip side of this, if you see them blindly run into a gun fight.....do not directly follow their footsteps often you will be the one who will die. If you see this flank or sit back and cover fire, essentially use them as bait.
3. Avoid open terrain or areas where the enemy can shoot DOWN on you. You will die a lot if you do not heed this warning.
4. upgrade your weapon skills before you upgrade your defense skills, this is because no matter what especially in a assault suit, you are going to get mowed down very easily in a gun fight. So best utilize your time alive by trying to hit harder than the opponent. This technique is a very popular one in EVE online, DPS tanking, dead enemies do no damage. so very simply put, a safe way to play is by playing smart by using cover, sticking with teammates, helping teammates, maximize your damage
Thank you for the question and I hope this helped =) |

Will this be tweaked in the final game? It feels so much like Halo and I thought this game was gonna be like M.A.G . I don't like games where it takes forever to kill someone it annoys me. Thats my main disappointment with this game right now is with the bullet damage here. I trust that all the graphics and lag problems will be fixed.
This game looks so promising!!! The fact that its taking forever to kill someone is making me extremely angry and disappointed with the game i was gonna give up on this game, but being one of the few ps3 shooters with big battles and the first shooter that links with another mmorpg i hope that they fix all the problems and balance everything.
Are the developers intentionally giving everyone lots of health because this game is supposed to be like a halo, resistance 2, type with lots of health or is this just for testing. |

The simple reason for this is, it isn't MAG, it also isn't halo or resistance. The reason people can take so much punishment in this game is because we are in super futuristic space battle suits ie dropsuits. Similar in a way to Spartans in Halo. These dropsuits (if read a few EVE chronicles you will know) are all that separate us from taking a few hits and well being obliterated into tiny bits from a single assault rifle round.
So to answer your question/concerns very bluntly, you are going to have to work for your kills not just shoot someone 2 times, lucky or not, like in MAG or CoD. |

So its gonna be meant to be like a halo/resistance type game. Where you're gonna have to aim for the head and put some shots into that person before they're going down.
that kind of disappoints me but still I cant step away from the fact that this game sounds awesome. How we're going to be influencing what goes in EVE. I guess I'll have to get used to it then. |

that kind of disappoints me but still I cant step away from the fact that this game sounds awesome. How we're going to be influencing what goes in EVE. I guess I'll have to get used to it then.
It isn't I guess (i am not a dev so I don't know) suppose to be a copy of ANY game, but yes you can definitely compare killing players in halo to killing players in dust. It might be tough to get use to for players use to the games similar to the ones you have experience playing. But hey never hurts trying it eh?
I agree with you completely on your second point about the potential of the game =) |

I played a couple more matches and I literally got like 1 kill per match. 0_0. I'm still horrible at this game. I can't seem to kill the other person before they run away or they get me first.
What skills do i have to upgrade so i can kill people easier? And how many shots should it normally take to kill someone. One clip? I just wanna know if I'm missing all my shots lol. |

From the sound of it, I think you might be haha. I find it odd you are only getting 1 kill per match, make sure you are doing the same thing they are when they kill you. Like move around, hit and run, strafe etc. There are skills that upgrade your weapon damage, increase reload speed, etc etc. Almost anything you can do in game there is a skill that modifies that action.
It is hard to say what YOU individually need. Id say if you want more survivability train up Mechanics to IV and Shield augmentation I think it is to IV whichever one you need to increase your shield hp. |

Ever thought about getting a heavy suit with an HMG, Bamboo? Could be it's more your style, and your survivability will certainly go up a little bit.
The militia heavy dropsuit has no skill requirement I think so you only need to train up for the HMG (weaponry 3, heavy machine gun operation 1) and you're good to go. Perhaps it will be easier to hit people if you're spewing out 30 bullets per second... just saying.

I'm gonna finish up my training for assault rifle then move on to the hmg. I don't know whats with me but i've gotten a tiny bit better. Still, I can't seem to make kills I usually get assists and even if i do its a long marathon of hopping around and reloading while the other guy unloads. |

You can't change corp as far as I know, and you have been assigned to one randomly when you made the char. (although all the blood raiders seem to be coming from europe according to a thread on our corp forum)
But there is no difference between them, they don't have different skills or anything. Just some backstory if yer interested. |

This seems like a good place to post this as it may assist new players and more experianced players as well. I am pretty much a full on assault trooper that assist his buddies and throws down some nanohives for the heavies and such. I WANT to wear full proto, full complex armor/shield, and top of the line equipment BUT, that **** costs crazy amounts of cashe. Currently with just full proto and complex shield and armor repair I am at near 35k or so. With top end nanohives, grenades, ect ect I will easily hit 40k.
In a match I get anywhere between 60-120k, and 120k being a VERY lucky match. How does this work? I read that it depends on the other players dropsuits and stuff? Whats that about. I played a match with the full proto and such and ensured I didn't die, I did great, got like 20 kills a no deaths, hacked the **** out of everything, it was awesome. But when the match was over I barely got 70k? If I died 2 times I would have pretty much gained nothing...that kinda sucks? I want to be able to get in a tank and maybe try out a dropship, but im not going to do it if I can barely afford my damn suit. Do I just have to not use proto suits and proto gear?
How is everyone else doing on the money factor, any tips and such on how to increase money flow? I could really use some advice and assistance on this and I think everyone could benefit on some money tips. |

Very reasonable concern. Right now the income levels are skewed for two reasons. One is that the modifier for the current reward equation is 4x to accelerate testing of higher end mods. Two there are no corporation battles aka contracts to take so the amount of overall ISK we have is very small in comparison to the Trillions of ISK in the EVE online economy.
So it is hard to say what will earn you the most money, I can have games where I use my expensive 30k a suit heavy and get like 30-40 kills and only die once or twice and only get 20-40k isk and on the flip side I can also earn upwards of 150k in a similar situation. Also using an assault militia suit (all free gear) I can earn the same amounts I do in my expensive suit. More in practicality because I don't lost ISK from dying with all free gear.
The best way to MAKE ISK right now is to use militia gear and just play well. Then when you have a good buffer of money just play your expensive toys and then maybe play some games with militia stuff to recoup any losses etc. That is your best bet right now until corp contracts are made a feature in the game and you can start racking up serious ISK. |

I was thinking maybe something to teach some of the new players about why it takes forever to kill somebody in the game or something similar to that idk. Maybe some tips for them to get past the first couple of matches so they could level up skills.
The reason I'm saying this is because when I first played this game the thing that got to me most was the health. I was furious at how long it would take to kill ONE dude and since I was new I didn't know ANYTHING about skills, different tiers of guns, and how they would help me kill people easier.
If I was one of those BF3 or COD guys I would've probably just gave up on this game by then. The only thing that stopped me was the fact this game had so much potential and me being a M.A.G guy its one of the few games I know of on the ps3 market that has huge player battles.
Bottom line, let the noobs know that the misery does end and once you learn how to play the game its gonna be a great game! |

Thank goodness this exists. I'm a complete noob and this universe is as daunting is as it is intriguing. Couple that with my lack of experience with FPS games, if it wasn't for the rich background and seemingly endless customization and development, I probably would be too intimidated to get involved.
As a beginner, I'm curious about if player organized teams form. If so, how can I go about joining such a group. If I were an experienced player, I surely wouldn't want to have dead weight like myself as a member. What's the best way to go about getting better? The few times I've tried my hand at online shooters, I couldn't survive long enough to even become accustomed to the controls.
Can't believe this thread hasn't reached sticky status yet.

Hi!
I am squeeing about the mention of destroyers being used for orbital bombardment (then found someone else had beat me here on mentioning it! ^_^ ). I can fly larger ships -- I'm currently considering finishing Amarr Battleship-V for the sole purpose of adding Amarr to the races where I can fly the carrier and dreadnought (Gallente and Caldari), as I already have all of the capital weapons skills -- but I really do spend most of my time in rookie ships and frigates. If destroyers get a DUST 514 role, I may just spend a lot of time in them -- assuming that all of my game play isn't boots on the ground! :D
For those wondering about what planets do in EVE Online, a lot of the EVE manufacturing (and a lot of the starbase (POS) fuel) uses stuff from Planetary Interaction: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Planetary_interaction

The best way to get better is to be around experienced players willing to help you improve. From my experience in FPS, having familiar people watching your back makes things a lot easier. You know what their habits and style of play are and you can compliment each other better and shield each others weaknesses.
And of course, practice and LOTS of it! No one got any better without taking their hits like a good sport. Even if your Kill/Death Ratio starts off lopsided as hell, there is always ways to contribute towards your friends. Heck even a Kill/Death Ratio that yields more assists then kills is vital because it's more bullets taking down a target. Support characters are perhaps even more vital then guys like me who constantly attack and shoot the enemy because they keep guys like me at full strength and full on ammo.
In short do not get discouraged by your kill/death ratio. Ultimately what matters is completing the objective by any means. If your team does that alone then you have done well. |

Good advice for new players who still have to find their place in the overall picture. You don't need to be a infantry killing machine, a big tank will make you feel as powerful as any proto heavy. And till you can afford one of those juggernauts, what about all those turrets standing around, you can get kills with those as well, indeed even win the match by shooting at the enemy MCC. It all depends on being in the right spot at the right time, and that is a talent altogether.
Also, bump. Back to the first page with you. |

Those descriptions of the suits are there to make them sound interesting and outline weaknesses and strengths, a weakness of any heavy suit is facing snipers.
A non-militia heavy takes more than a clip of anything short of a forge gun, or an HMG to take down.
If you are a sniper and a non-militia or militia heavy wanders into your sights, it is a very easy target, and possibly an easy kill depending on how long he sticks around. You can maximize your damage against him by getting head shots if you are good, from what I can tell headshots do more than 100% extra damage to drop suits. So comparatively a sniper only needs to shoot a few rounds compared to the close to a hundred someone with an AR would have to use on average to take one down.
It will take you a lot less bullets to take down a amarr heavy suit with a proto sniper than pretty much any other light weapon in the game, barring swarm launchers because they are broken pos.
A few is subjective/situational in a quantitative sense. =) I hope this post cleared up the "few sniper rounds" for anyone thinking it was incorrect. |

This may be true, but even on the militia heavy it still takes 3 headshots for me to kill them with my Ishukone sniper. I know he's heavily armored, but seriously, how much of that armor is actually on his HEAD? |

Then it should only take 4 or 5 to take down a non militia suit, as it stands right now the militia one has just around 100 less hp than the advanced or proto suits can't remember which one. Which isn't much for a proto sniper to get through.
And do not fear because in the next build militia heavy suits will only have 600 armor. =)
As for proto's and heavies I think they deserve to be able to take 4-5 sniper shots, you have to dump more SP into just drop suit command and amarr heavy suit than you do to get gallente scout suit to IV, sniper operation to V and sniper proficiency to IV combined, and thats just to wear the damn suit. |

Word. I've been skilling amarr heavy dropsuit to level 4 to get the advanced suit, but it's taking a long time with the diminishing returns. To get to level 4 I need 1,43 million skillpoints, level 3 was half that amount I think. But I'm not complaining, it should take that long. The heavy suit, when used right, is a near unstoppable killing machine, but only when operating in team, solo its just a hard cookie to crack.

Yeah the amarr heavies are def working as intended, they are hard to skill for and even harder to use effectively considering their extreme cost compared to the other suits.
If you stick with teammates you are almost unbeatable =) very scary thing to come up against a proto heavy is haha. |

As a merc, you shouldn't have to care about New Eden's history. You should only care about your job, you don't need to know the drama behind the contract, only the price the contractor is willing to pay.
I'm not saying EVE's history is stupid, mercs can indulge them selves in it all they want. But it wont really affect you. if a major war breaks out, then there will be more jobs for you on the contract market.
I for one wont care about the drama behind a contract, it has nothing to do with me. The job is my only priority.
Need to know basis, I don't need to know the history.

HOW DARE YOU WRITE ABOUT EVE and make such a....a.....well written and informative article. No, really - it's well written, clear and concise. Might want to put in some links to the Annual Alliance Tourney though - I'm willing to bet CCP gives dust a similar event, possibly even with similar prize types.

I just wanted to say thanks for this great thread and for the advice everyone else has given for Dust. It's my 2nd day playing the beta and it's one of the best shooters I've played. Currently I've been playing using a simple assault class I built but the information you've given with the dropsuits makes it so much more exciting to try out some of the other classes and builds. |

unfortunately I cannot edit my original post due to the fact that I am no longer counter logic, I am now counter logic.
I know right?
Anyways I shall post up an edited version of this in the next few days including info on the new things that have been added that will hopefully clear up any confusion, including the star map.
But to help you a little now, I can tell you the star map is a well map. That shows all of the star systems in New Eden aka EVE online, aka where everything happens. Every one of those stars on that map (over 5000) has planets, and moons, and stuff. It is really mostly there to give you an idea of where you are and how big EVE is
Any other suggestions of what I should add in the upcoming re edit of this?
(once NDA drops I shall be doing a blog/tutorial site for DUST 514, any help with doing this would be nice seeing as it is something I have never done. I like teaching and telling people what to do so I figure I'll give it a try )

First off - counter logic, this really is a BRILLIANT thread. Thank you for that.
Second - we too would like to help those not familiar with the concepts and workings of Dust 514 become excited and knwledgeable about the endeavor they are pursuing. In that light, we have created a DUST 514 COMMUNITY COLLEGE. With an emphasis on community, at this point it is a forum for Q&A about any aspect of the Dust Universe, but we plan on expanding what services it offers as the game matures (and the NDA restrictions become null)
The forum does exist on my corporations website, but you are in no way obligated or expected to join us. YOU WILL NOT BE RECRUITED WHEN VISITING THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SITE.
We hope one day to seperate it from our Corp site completely, as to make it it's own independant resource for gamers. We are hoping this truly becomes a resource for those seeking information on Dust 514. For now, you do have to register with our site in order to post a question (a restriction of enjin, i would turn it off if i could) but you will also be able to browse through threads and questions without registering, and in time, we hope answers to all the "frequently asked questions" will exist and be easy to find.
Any suggestions on improving the resource forums would be appreciated, and please understand that it is in it's "baby" form and we are just now getting the word out to the public about it.
Please Note: due to the NDA, not all questions wil be able to be answered right away, i apologize for that, but we do not want to violate any of CCP's rules for the beta.
Here is the link: Dust 514 Community College Forum
Finally- counter logic, i cannot wait to see what future help and information you continue to provide to those new to Dust, EVE, and New Eden. Please keep up the great work. |

I would add vehicle controls still do not know how to fly dropship . How to activate active modules and that active modules exists.
Right D-Pad for calling vehicles and that you will see your request queued and then delivered after some time.
That holding R1 is for locking on target for Swarm launchers.
Maybe some useful skills descriptions. Some of them are quite cryptic.

OK, with regards to the Vehicle request part of the game. I am a Noob on this, and the skill/ISK/Dropsuit fitting is taking a while to sink in (it could be an age thing, as I'm in my late 30's and not as quick as I used to be picking up games).
When I request a tank for instance, is this being taken from my inventory (haven't seen that yet), or is this paid for as and when it is requested.
Also is there a class that is better suited to utilizing vehicles (ie like Battlefield using Engineers for vehicles)?
Lastly what skill do I need to increase (and to what level) to be able to use better Dropsuits?
Great thread btw!!! :D |

@sake It is good to see that there are more taking an interest in teaching people about dust!
As for the questions about vehicles and their control. It is tough to show someone how to drive a vehicle through forum posts without being able to really SHOW them how to fly or drive. I can provide some basic tactics and things like that. I am currently working on some follow ups to this thread, so bear with me!!
As for vehicles coming out of your inventory. If the vehicle you are dropping is not militia and you paid for it, or for modules on it. Yes it is coming out of your inventory just like a drop suit + modules would. You pay for it and everything. I currently run 70k isk drop ships, and thankfully I haven't lost one yet! :)
Like I said, I am working as fast as I can on a follow up thread, so stay tuned!! |

Ok, so if I understand the question correctly you are asking where to buy the skill book. There are two ways to buy skill books in dust currently. One way is through Market > skills > "skill you want" in this case it may be vehicles. Another way is to go to your character sheet. Go to skills then tab over to the available skills section. This will show your current skills in white and available skills in grey. Available skills are skills you either own and haven't trained or skills that you can train but do not own. You must buy these skills and use them to be able to upgrade them.
It is good to check the available skills section from time to time to see what new skills you have the prerequisites for!
It is either vehicle command or vehicle operation I forget which. I think you actually start with it at level 1. If not you can go to your available skills and scroll all the way down to the bottom and it should be there grayed out if you do not already have it.
If anyone has any more questions about DUST or EVE feel free to post here, or message me in EVE Counterlogicman. |

EDIT: I have a updated version of this ready, it should fall easily within the character limits of the original posts. It includes some grammatical errors being fixed as well as fixed missing and updated features information. I decided to leave out guides on specific things such assault rifles, mass drivers, specific ways to fit things, use things. Mainly because they are either obvious to the average FPSer or need to be figured out on your own.
So GM Unicorn or anyone else that can edit the original post how can I get the updated version directly to you? |

I want to know that my employer pays his mercs well, and doesn't leave them hanging in the breeze if planetside starts to go belly up. That the employer has a history of sharing tech and bonuses with the boots on the ground. Whether they are ambitious and daring, over-daring and biting off more than they can handle (leading to wipes of their hired mercs), or safe as kittens and only doing milk-run jobs.
If your Corp or other team keeps accepting contracts that get your team wiped, time to replace leadership or find another employer. The accountants are gonna love this game for the cost-benefit analyses.
If the Eve-Dust integration goes like some posts are hinting/hoping, the contracting part of the game is going to be interesting. You don't have to care, but you should keep an eye on what's going on. |

I got watching through some of the old Eve Online intro videos, and stumbled across the original one. I'm not sure if anyone has linked it, but it does an amazing job of explaining the nature of the Eve universe and the NPC factions / conflict within it.
Original intro video
It should almost be required viewing I think, with how it sounds like Dust is going to be heavily focused on faction war for the first little while. |

Need some help? Still lost even after reading this. Way to many menus, way to many stats. way to much everything. The history can wait I'm still trying to figure out how to restock and mod a dropsuit. The online guide just talks about dropsuits and this post just says oh yeah refill via the marketplace or suit fitting, but for some reason the restock menu does nothing but say invalid fitting on everything I do if I can do anything at all, most of the time there's nothing to click on. How do you restock a suit? Under the restock menu nothing happens when I confirm the restock.
As of now I guess I'm done cause I got no more dropsuit to use and can't buy anymore. I hope the UI gets more user friendly.

question about the skills that are in the market place. The ones that have a red x if I purchase those then will I learn those skills or can I only learn skills with a green check? and after I purchase said skill is it automaticaly learned or do I have to place skill points into that skill? |

You can only learn the skills with a green check, you must put skill points in after you buy the book (the two actions are separate), and if you press triangle on the books with the red X it will tell you what skills you will need before you can use them. |

great info, I now somewhat understand, Just wondering if it is all worth all the trouble to get heavily involved in a game like this instead of maybe practice BF3 to get ready for Bf4, I think ppl like ending's to things that come with the serial number like cod4, mw3, so they know that improvements to the game before has been made so maybe they have a chance to be good at the next one.

Ok, here's my question: On the Assault Rifles, some of them say they can fire auto OR semi-auto, depending on the ammo loaded.... Is there any assault rifle that actually does that? I couldnt change the type of fire in battle. Or are they seperate rifles, like breach vs. tactical or something...........
The semi-auto assault rifles seem to suck....

Sorry about my absence, I have been very busy at college the last few weeks. I have submitted an updated version of this thread in the replies here as requested by unicorn. I don't know what will happen with that but hopefully an updated guide with the inclusion of other great guides out there will come out of it.
When the NDA goes down, I may start a blog of sorts dedicated to helping new players and discussing aspects of the game. Anyone that has experience in this or has ideas feel free to message me on my PSN evaius . I am completely knew to the whole blog thing so any help or guidance would be appreciated and credited. :)

Q: hey I have a question about the "radar". what is the difference between blue and turquoise ones? A: The colors on the radar are as follows. Blue = On team but not in squad. Green = In Squad. Tannish = neutral. Red = enemies.
Q: its the battles i get lost in sometimes... where is everybody sometimes?? A: You could either be in an empty match, on a big map, or everyone is on the other end of the map. Try opening the map and looking for blues and reds and head that way!
Q: how do you command your squad & what buttons are the commands? A: Ok to command your squad you can do it two different ways. One way is to hold R2 click the right stick move the stick to the command and make sure the command stays highlighted and release R2. The command will show up on your screen and you then pull the trigger on whatever you would like to set the command on, whether it be an enemy or a teammate. You can only set certain commands on certain objects so keep that in mind. The second way to set commands is via the map, this usually only works on objects like installations and objectives, hold x and use the right stick to select the command.
Q: why dont i see orbital strike in 'off map support' when i've been informed by the info box i have access to it? A: Only squad commanders can call in the strike.
Q: whats the circle for on my map? (down button) i can move it around... but.....???? A: you use this to issue commands.
Q: how do i score more than a few thousand points? A: make sure your squad is using commands, the best way to gain points with a squad is to put a defend order on a fellow squad mate, stick together and kill and do various things that get wp.

Apologies if this was requested already. A link to the Eve influence map in full color would give Dust Players a better understanding of the constantly changing power structure of the eve universe. So when they eventually fight in 0.0 they know who is in the area and if it is a heavily contested zone.
Don't forget the day Skynet went online and all of the player owned structures in eve shot at everything both friend and foe. Many tears were shed that day.
Awesome Job. As an eve veteran I approve of this message.

yeah i made mistake of buy 50, instead of just 1 since they do NOT run out. Hence why they don't reseed them when accounts with them go inactive or they get blown up in transport etc.
not exactly true....
They hate ( sorta) Tech 2 bpos...there are many normal items that are t1..its the rarirty of t2 bpos that skew the market ..... |

I never played EVE so the whole "Keeping **** in stock thing" was pretty difficult for me. I now buy things in bulk when needed. Just recently decided to skip the gear i was aiming for and going after the best gear my skills allow me to use. Simply switched from the Militia AR to the GEK and i sorta did better in battle. Sadly the Militia gear in the current build is just cheap and the blueprint ones can only be purchased with Aurum.
Are there some sorta bonuses to the races? I mean am I gonna be a better Logistics player if I remake my guy as a Minmatar? Or are they simply preferential? |

I have just completed reading every single post, from page 1 all the way to 11. And I must say, Counter Logic, you have done an impressively outstanding job. It was a tiresome task, but I did it for all the newer/confused players out there (like me).
Seeing as anyone can respond to the questions below. And also realizing how long this post is. Please, it'll help by just answer without quoting. Just say, "Referring to Post# whatever this post number is (located in the upper left-hand corner of the post; in red) , question number whatever number is next to the question that you are answering.
My PSN: Passport PSN: evaius Message in EVE Counterlogicman --á
In response to request as stated in the following posts: Attach to quote post#133 & #159.-á
1) Can I set up a messaging account on EVE via the internet?
2) How do I focus on "training" certain specific skills such as engineering? How do I "train" the skills?
3) Is there an excel spreadsheet or a diagram of sort, like a tree of skill levels/augmentation that you need to get better at the basic roles they have currently provided? I know there's thousands of ways to critique your dropsuit via skill, proficiency and items; but what I'm asking here is, are there any guides so that you can be the the best at the basic, cookie-cutter roles that they have provided?
4A) When I was starting off I already knew I wanted to be: that fast sneaky scout support logistics that gets behind enemy lines undetected, create spawn points and shuts the opponents whole defense system down. Is there like a "tree-build" to find out what skills and augmentations I need for scout logistics support? It was told to me to not use my skill points at all yet, because they are hard to gather. Especially if I want to be a scout, because CCP have yet to make that drop suit invisible.
5) Can someone post a glossary of acronyms, abbreviations and colloquials for the noobs? And please go layman terms with it; all the way down to FPS, MMO, RPG, CCP, MMS, OP.
6) How about using YouTube to show vehicles and their controls? Then you can just add the link here. If it helps, you can send me the video, and I could post it on my YouTube channel; then send you the link. My channel is "Ruine27"
7) Is there any way to collaborate this thread so that all the 3 pages worth of good info is together and not saturated across 11 pages of all the thank yous, this is greats, bumps and salutations? ie, post a collaboration everything 3 pages in, or so. I would be willing to do this, but I'm afraid that it'll be beyond the post character limit. So if you can get the GM or OP to waived the limit, I'll collaborate and re-edit so that makes sense altogether, then post it all at once.
4B) I'm asking from these key specific players- I need help for "first week" role advice for a Scout Logistics Support (ie. tips on better SP by doing certain things from my role):-á Veteran_soko99,-á Veteran_counter logic,-á Gleiphnir-Bragian Order-Amarr Empire,-á Jamie deveroux-Sanmatar Kelkoons-Minmatar Republic
The following are posts to which I really feel Noobs need you to elaborate on. If you're not sure how to answer or don't know; please provide a link to somewhere we can find out the answer:-á 8) Post#125, from OMC-MUMBLES of Villore Sec Ops-Gallente Federation,-á 9) Post#136, from Sergeant Wiznowski-Seraphim Initiative.,-á 10) Post#168,-á 11) Post#198,-á
Thank you, in advance, for struggling yet forging through reading this ever-so elongated inquiry post. And may you have the energy to answer it all.

Some questions:
I assume the player rankings on the in-game lobby screen mean something, can anyone confirm this?
What does a light blue nametag mean? I've noticed some people have that
HOW DO YOU CHANGE THE DROPSUIT FOR THE LOBBY? Even though I use heavy militia, I still see myself with generic non-dropsuit
Will we be able to customize our lobby/room dropsuit in the same way EVE characters are customizable?
Will we always be gaining this standard 2-300,000 ISK per battle?
Will there be wars waged by players? Do they have any kind of effect in the universe?
Thanks. I'm looking forward to getting more involved in this |

great thread
as an Eve player of nearly 10 years, it bought back a lot of fond memories.
Even though the GNW (great northern war) was nothing like the 1000 vs 1000 Cap blobs we see today, it was an amazing time to be in 0.0 and fighting a complex and at times desperate conflict.
were I in a movie now, the camera would shake, picture go wobbly and i'd suddenly find myself in deep 0.0,before outposts, before jump bridges, cap ship and logistic cruisers... spamming an alignment in a rail fitted gank mega, as incoming fire rips though my shield and armour, waiting for the flame as the ships starts to burn, hands shaking as i get to warp with 50% of my hull intact.
ahhh what heady days.

This is my first day on Dust and I'm completely frightened out of my mind. A simple look at the stat bars just made me zone out.
I just want to play medic... so I spec'd as an arbiter... I spent all my skill points pretty evenly although I don't know what the heck the skills do. (None of the description reads like lament english to me)
I just bought a combat engineer skill and all the items have x1 and x2 next to it. ... that's the other thing I'm not sure of... what items are 1 time use and which are permanent. ... I don't want to spend no cash on a beta, so I want to use my points smartly. ...
So in my first game I'm completely lost. ... they should put some kind of play-through tutorial for this or something... So in the first game I just ended up messing with the controller to see what each button did. I got to admit the R2 button to bring out the syringe or the repair tool is very clunky... I found out that the repair tool can target your own team... so I ASSUME that it would repair their armor or something... problem is that I see 2 bars and I'm not sure which one am I repairing... Than I saw someone dead and ran over to him to pick him up with the syringe. That worked a few times and I picked up pretty quickly on the reviving system in this game... but then it glitched on me one time when I tried to pull out the syringe and I ended up having nothing in my hand. ... I know I sound like I'm rambling... but that is just how confused I am with this game. |

Heya, Alli! Don't worry about the rough start-- even those of us who knew what to expect have had a lot of getting-used-to to do. CCP is good at depth; they're not fantastic at clarity. You're in the right place to find your feet, at least.
The two bars you are seeing are shield (self-repairs, repels explosives well, wilts under lasers) and armor (does not ordinarily self-repair, repels lasers well, wilts under explosives). They look like they're equal, but what you're seeing is a total value of whatever they've got, and whatever fraction of it remains.
It's the second bar, armor, that I believe you're repairing, assuming you've got the right module-- a service your teammates, especially heavies, will bless you for. In fact, if you see a fat guy waddle by with a huge gun, you might consider following along: nobody has more armor, or needs it more.
On that glitch: you might have run out of syringes, or ... well, yeah, there's also a bug that causes things to fail to appear. Try using them anyway; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't, at least lately, you probably lost connection to the server.
Welcome to Dust. Be patient, die a lot, learn well. |

Thanks Tarquin. Yeah I did follow around the fat guy lol. I assumed it was similar to team fortress 2, so I used my ray gun and latched myself to the nearest big gun wielding friendly lol.
Oh and what I said earlier about being an arbiter, I was wrong, it's the... err... darn I forgot the name already. The other class that starts with ar... ... hmmm... but yeah, it's taking a bit to level up and figure out what works for my setup. I'm trying to build a engineer/supply/medic class and I guess I'm going off on the right foot by using the logistic armor... can't figure out what would make my support class carry even more stuff though... nor what is one time use and what is perm... I assumed that all militia items were permanent... but I just used one of those militia supply ammo drop boxes and now I don't have it anymore... :( |

Ah, that. Far as I can tell, militia items are permanent if and only if they are part of one of your starting sets (and even then, they don't seem to reappear if you modify the set).
Very odd, but you can think of those as "training wheels."
The other militia stuff is just very cheap. Happily, it's cheap enough that you can buy in bulk and come out ahead-- so give it a go!
In general, items are "permanent" (blueprints) if they've got a blue mesh behind the picture-- not on the fitting screen, but in the item description, the market, or your "assets" menu. Otherwise, they're expendable, and your supplies will diminish each time you die.
Happily, they're not consumed by getting "reloaded" at supply depots and such. As long as you don't die, you can resupply to your heart's content (though you should check what the max number of any droppables that you can have active at once). |

Hello New to the eve universe and dust itself, i think i got over the skill sheet but seem to run into a snag but this may be more personal if anything but like to see what others think.
Does it really matter on what class specialization i choose at the start? Or should i choose something will suit me? I know for a fact at some point i'll turn that character into the ultimate war guy that is able to use everything, but i read somewhere that will take 4 years to do so.
Anywho should i choose something that will fit me and my play style in the long run or does that not matter? If i opt to go for my play style thats where i hit my 'snag' I'm the kind of person who like to fill a variety of roles or play the ones the team needs at that moment and at this point it would literally be everything, anti-armor(tanks and LAV's run rampant no one takes them out) Medic, i don't think anyone knows how to use logi's well enough nor is there really any information about them and role in a squad/team i recently just figured out that the repair tool also affects people around you not just the tank(the more you know) Scout by this i mean the tf2 iteration of the word that fast guy who gets behind enemy lines and is able to cause some minor chaos.
I could go on and on but point is i like to be the guy who can fill a variety of roles for few reasons 1) It rocks 2) Gives more to do rather than just run and gun 3) No one likes to play medic or throw their nanohives(ammo) for anyone other than themselves 4) No one is willing to adapt to the situation(From what i seen anyways)
In this case and point what would be a good option to opt for and stick with? |

Hello there. I'm fairly new to Dust as well, but I have been perusing the forums for tips and general gameplay approaches for some time.
The best advise I have found was in reference to bad heavy's. Since you are going to be relegated to a fairly small portion of the skill tree for an unknown length of time, you should buy Militia versions of whatever other styles you were going for. As it has been pointed out, the Militia variants are dirt cheap, so you aren't investing much. Using this format, just determine the needs of your squad on the battlefield, and hit up a friendly Supply Depot to change fittings. If the reds rolled out a Tank, fit up a Militia Heavy with a militia Forge Gun, and some shield extenders. While you may not do enough damage by yourself in a militia fit, you may be able to create an opening for someone with AV nades.
To really work out your best play-style, you should browse the Training Grounds forum pages. Most of it is logis helping logis, but there are a lot of valid fitting discussions and play-styles for people that want to multi-spec.
As a direct response to #3, it seems that you've had the misfortune to not squad up with a proper logi player. While most assault guys tend to be stingy with their nano-hives (understandable, they spec to deal damage), a good log will either find a defensible position to lay out a hive, or will lay one out in a well traveled path. This is both a product of altruism, and because a logi knows they will get a Team Resupply bonus for every team-mate that steps on the hive.
I hope you find some of this helpful.

Hello thanks for the reply, getting around the whole thing and messing with the suits and see what fits or how i can tinker with it to make it work to my personal style. Just coming from different FPS's and then coming to this is very different, never played a FPS where all your best gear are 'taken'(lost) when you die, its like a combination of a RPG with battlefield in it. Just scared me is all, now to continue to mess with all these drop suits and determine whats for me though i think Assault is going to be me as its a jack of all trades kinda suit. |

They're consumed because the body wearing/carrying them is dead-- and more or less disintegrated, if the graphics tell true. Every time you die, that's a set of equipment gone. The only thing that survives is the mind.
You need to restock unless you own blueprints-- and probably that blueprint will eventually be what the name suggests (a schematic for building your own), so you'll need to restock that item, too, just by other means. |

Don't forget that the starter fittings are completely free, and never run out of any item that is pre-loaded into them. You can copy the Starter fits, and replace any module/weapon and so long as you have a fund of that specific module/weapon to replace with upon each death; you can load drastically reduced fits, as the rest of the fitting never runs out.
Once you have replaced/removed one of the original starter fitting modules, you cannot go back to the endless module. Everything in that slot will have to be purchased going forward. The only way to get that back would be to re-copy the original fit and tweak as necessary.
This is helpful to remember if you are getting stomped and don't want to waste ISK on higher cost fits. |

I think the above is a bit of a mis-conception as i have found that if i remove an item i added (rather than replace) it retores the slot to its original unlimited item.
I hope you can understand that sentence... |

I've been waiting for someone to say this. I was the same way when I first started... The best way to quickly upgrade is to keep trying.. BUT ALSO. an important thing to try...
If you cant seem to get kills, also throw nanohives / nanite injectors to ur dropsuit... this will also seemingly give u sp and stuff like it... once you find your ideal suits and skills, you will tart honing in on the kills.. i suggest you either get good with expl or grenandes (i chose 'nades) bc when theyre upgraded, they are extremely devaastating in close range environments... if you spawn in front of 100 enemies and know u are dead, try getting off a grenade or two, accidental kills are kills just the same... its not truly about how many kills but how much you assist your team, every kill assist, team resupply, kill, helps... |

that doesnt seem to happen for me unless im editing a starter suit i think... any other suit n it just turns red incompatible... one question i have tho, is how to tell when a module is necessary... for instance.. on some suits you Require a pistol, for assault suit A series i ditched my pistol to save dough... any thoughts? |

Hrmrmr guys I tried this game last weekend, I walked thru all the tutorials and I think I understand the basics of fittings etc. What I am really struggling with is how exactly to play this game and have fun doing it.
Started as an engineer/medic with SMG/medtool/repair tool
First game queued for TDM ran around the map tried some grenades and ended up getting spawn camped, like where i spawned and died 1 second later... I was looking around for a way to spawn somewhere else? The minimap implied that I could spawn somewhere else but I never figured it out and so just stopped spawning. Good times
Queued up for another game this time my team was better as I was able to spawn successfully and move around. Syringes are popping up all over the place and I finally figure out to hold R2 and jiggle my stick to select medtool (any shortcut to this?) HOWEVER for the life of me I cannot figure out how to use it I must have tilted the crap out of one guy standing directly above him with my medtool out unable to use it WTF.
I did manage to get an ASSIST +25 this game so COOL but I notice my SMG doesn't work on anything outside like 10m even if I aim down sights I just spin my clip and nothing hits. HRMRMRMR so I finally sneak up on a guy, he's sniping up high I get right behind him and hold R1 like a boss with my 64 shot SMG. I must have scared the crap out of him but then he turned around and killed me after absorbing my clip and I felt like a chump.
I have been playing FPS since the first Doom and had 400+ hours of MAG so I feel qualified to say this game is probably just not good however I wanted to see if I could get any guidance or tips from the community. I am willing to give it another try however if the gameplay is just going to suck I won't ever bother. Basic understanding of how to use my controls and what fittings I can use to like hurt people would be great. |

I'm no pro and I don't feel or saw a need to buy aurum. CCP stated that DUST will not be pay to win, and I have yet seen as such.
The reason is actually due to Eve players if you didn't know. There was a massive ingame protest on that very issue more or less.
I also played f2p mmo in the past and did play DCUO (which is very much pay to win) And nothing you buy from aur you can get from isk later on. The aur items don;t give ppl an edge. And you can have a complete aur bought set of gear and still fail.
Thats the beauty if fps. No matter how geared to the teeth you are a sniper can still head shot you. |

All of this information should be shown in the game. maybe in a patch. but SOON. i recently started a new character on DUST 514 and found that alot of new players have no clue about what to do. they either get too frustrated and quit playing and give up before they even get out of the academy. My newly made ,eddard starch, character has been doing his best to train these new potentialees for readiness of what they are about to dive into. ITS SO DIFFICULT TO DO BY 5 PEOPLE AT A TIME. i think, no... i KNOW that there should be a more in depth but even more simpler than now explanation to the new comers before they even hit the ground. STARTING with how to turn their microphones on and how to activate voice chat in other channels. i will continue to do my best to train these new recruits as best as i can. please let me know if theres more to add.
Ps. they get kicked out way too early out of they academy. its still pub stomps. maybe give them trial runs on building dropsuits and using skill points or THE MICROPHONES. before they actually use their own skill point and items. i know its there already, but its a little tobreif i think.
also, new players wont know to come to dust forums from the beginning of their start of the game. the should also be implmented early on in their game.the prove to be very useful. |

Ah yes, I like this thread. I'm new to EVE, though I do have some knowledge of the EVEverse. I've never actually participated in EVE Online, though. I just liked to follow it from time to time. This thread is a big help to people like me who were confused about the different numbers and colors on the screen and what they meant. That market scared the crap out of me at first site. I also love the player-created history. Only with EVE do you see this kind of stuff happen. |

I have a question if I may and if it's been addressed already I'm sorry but I've searched and came up empty. I'm still learning about this game and have a corp going and things are going smoothly for the most part. Now the question is, an EVE player donated money to my corp and its sitting in the master wallet, the question is how do I use that money? It is not registering in my corp's funds, just sitting in the master wallet section. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I prefer Dust still. Thanks to Vet for compiling all this information for newcomers. EVE/Dust lore is just interesting. I have followed the story of EVE and when Dust 514 came along, I instantly jumped at a chance to get into it (my PC can't handle EVE). I look forward to the future with Dust as CCP works to expand and better the game. |

No, actually not brief at all, I started playing DUST yesterday, and I keep getting r@pd in Academy battles by ppl with named guns that need a butt load of skills to fit...
I think, if you have the skills to fit ANYTHING above a tier 1 (FULL) set, (Dropsuit AND Guns/Mods...NOT Militia Gear) then you should be banned from Academy battles altogether...
I find myself being the only 'noob' there in militia/starter gear tryin to build up skill points... Hell, last game I was in, I kept gettin pwnd by ppl with the GRU-5 Assault Rifle. Req.: Lv 3 Weapon, Lv 1 Light Weapon, Lv 5 Assault Rifle......

The whole point of my post is that DUST is NOT new player friendly.
SP and WP are based on how well ppl do, and their contribution to the match... how well do you expect ppl to do against those with proto guns AND the suits to fit them???
Yes you get 500k SP to start, BUT, if you skill up enough to get a proto gun, it makes the rest of the fit useless because there are no points left over to use it effectively...or for modules for that matter...you end up with a damn good gun, a suit to put it on (maybe)...and then what? All the sp got used in getting the gun, what else you gonna use...militia gear only goes so far, it doesn't make you able to tank very well. And the guys runnin the proto guns had more than just militia gear.
These guys are goin 16-2 or better and you can't do that without tankin alot of dmg from multiple ppl.
I just don't see how they can do it if Academy kicks ppl out early...I have just about 1Mil SP and I'm still in academy...if it goes by WP, then that don't make sense either...ppl who do THAT well get alot of WP and they are STILL in Academy. |

The OP should be updated. A lot has changed over the years. |

I'm currently stuck trying to recruit new players to DUST514, as I have only managed to recruit 2 people using my link, and only one of which has reached 25,000 WP.
So I'm turning to the forums for help. I'm offering a 100 Million ISK incentive to any 'new' recruits who reach 100,000 WP, along with the standard benefits all New recruits earn.
You see I play with all BPO dropsuit loadouts and accrue in excess of 1,500 WP a game, so as you can imagine my ISK builds up pretty quick. For those of you who don't believe me I invite you to play a game against me and I'll prove that I am all BPO, as I have purchased the Mercenary, Veteran and Elite packs as well as every BPO that was available on the market up to 1.5
Im appealing to 'ALL' forum members who may know of a person with a PSN account who doesn't play DUST514, but may be enticed to join up as a 'new' recruit, for an eye watering sum of ISK. I will provide all recruits who reach 100,000WP with a 100 Million ISK reward as soon as they email me a picture of their progress.
My recruit link is available below, so please, get sharing. https://dust514.com/recruit/psgkk4/ |

Heh, I just had a read through the original post, brings back memories it does. If only someone ran with the original format and made a new thread. Hmm I wonder who that could be?
