Wow.
Just found this thread and unfortunately read all of it.
It would be a mistake for CCP not to do SOMETHING Dust/Legion related at Fanfest, precisely because of the results of the last two.
They F'd up majorly, and they need to take the time, even if it is just a little, to make it right.
So far, Fanfest and to Dust has been synonymous with deception, intended or not, and flat out disrespect to the community.
If they don't take the time to have some sort of panel, it doesn't have to be big, just something small but positive with no promises or exaggerations, then they only cement the view of those within this community that believe we are thought of as a second class of gamers/customers.
Rattati, Logibro, Frame and CCP Shanghai have done a lot for Dust lately, but even then it feels like they are fighting an uphill battle within CCP.
If CCP as a whole can't take the time to carve out even the smallest of portions of time for Dust, then their silence really says all that can be said about how CCP views Dust/Legion.

Reading all this, it just asserts my decision to not touch DUST 514 ever again even further.
There's still a glimmer of hope for me that Legion is ever going to see the light of day, though. Maybe.

There are severall things EVE capsuleers have always wanted and have been crying for for years; first the foundations which is EVE itself offcourse an economic driven world that can be fought for or explored to its fullest, a form of planetary interaction, along with station and ship interaction and beeing able to fly fighters. When ccp showed a little screen at fanfest last year, where all three games where under one menu. To me it just confirmed how much they want it them selfs aswell. However as much fun as dust could be, the limits of the ps3 are holding the proper development back. When ccp made the promises of cool new stuff back in the days of BETA, i do believe they had the intention of progressing the game like with EVE on a seasonall base with major leaps, But due to the limitations of the ps3 and sony, they just got knocked down to many times. And these same limitations will still be there on ps4/ps5/ps6 etc, no matter how one looks at it. If they had made Dust514 for pc straight from the gekko, Dust would be a hole different game, for we would have had skirmish 1.0, beeing able to go into proper buildings and interact with them, we would have our Mtac's, MAV, and fighters. And we would have our own interactive world(s). Ccp rouge predecessors never really failed Dust514, Dust514 just spitted them out saying hey i'm on a console, not on a pc.
Legion and Valkyrie are the answer for ccp's nightmare, aslong as they can develop them in a way they know best and that is on the pc, (i'm not saying it should never port over to a console, but the proper foundations need to be there first). There are simply no limitations as to what one could do, but most of all it atracts the one group it was actually meant for and that is EVE Capsuleers/ EVE Fans. So no i do not believe Legion is dead. The fact that CCP is not talking is proberly due to there own NDA and that something big is coming, the question is only when they will announce it and when can we start playing it. And aslong as Valkyrie learns from Dust514's mistaked by porting a pc game to console, it will do just aswell as EVE. If not then Valkyrie will end up like dust514 and that is i'm sorry to say a sinking ship. |

Two years in a row and ccp has nothing new to say or give to you on a game you waste time on for reasons im not sure of. I do give them props for basically telling you "you're not getting anything" rather than last years flop of " stay tuned we have some exciting announcements for dust 514" but its not much better. I doubt anyone from dust 514 community will go or watch fanfest because it would be nothing but a big waste of time.

They are going to have some Dust/Legion stuff, just not big, official presentations. It's been said that they'll be talking about both games at roundtables and stuff, so as long as we have people there reporting what's said (hint: we will), we'll get some info out of fanfest. I remain cautiously optimistic.

Dear CCP Frame,
Here I give me honest thoughts about last fanfest.
I was very hyped about Legion. I sold me ps3 when hearing everything. I was very exited to hear more info about Legion at next fanfest until I stepped on this message.
I don't wanna destroy dreams but http://eve-offline.net/?server=dust Look to past year dust players are slowly decreasing each month. People are moving to the ps4. Whats next? Saying nothing this fanfest would by very very bad for the Dust and Legion IP.
I was even thinking that this was a trolling post. Sorry about that but I believe legion is very importent for the EVE ip to evolve to the next step titan boarding etc. I want something just as emmersive as star citizen is becoming but then better.
While I agreed I am a part off the PC master race I bought a ps3 because dust 514 in the first place. Promises were that it would become involved with EVE greatly. Legion for pc is something I am waiting for long time.
Atm I am unsubbed at eve and waiting whats gonna happen NEXT so also the FPS part. Have played eve on and off for 7 years.
Of course stuff can still change fanfest is a few months away. But this is my thinking the big why you should talk about legion in a official presentation and have a plan ready.
Anyway I watch next fanfest and see what happends.

Unless Legion is going PS4 instead of PC, or they abandoned Legion and DUST is going PS4 (both of which are highly unlikely) they have nothing to do at E3 in regards to Legion/DUST.
Better yet, why would they have anything to say at all if not at Fanfest?

Really?
It's like that?
Well, if CCP has no plans to announce ANYTHING about Dust or Legion... that can be translated as them not caring about Dust/Legion, besides it being a passive income source feeding off gamer hopes.

/sigh Iterating on a game on a dead (dying) platform is not getting the game anywhere, at least not with such a small development team. Also, more cash grabs incoming?
But keep trying to defend not having anything to announce at Fanfest.

I will keep defending it. Because holding stuff to announce at Fanfest is a stupid idea, and I'm glad CCP is posting stuff as soon as it's possible, like announcing the next release and such, rather than waiting for a marketing event that has backfired two years in a row.

Well, it would've been hard to announce the next releases at Fanfest considering they're being deployed before, so nothing surprising or new with that process.
Having nothing to say about either game's future (DUST/Legion) at their own event is hilariously stupid, and nothing has or is indicating such information will come in other ways, so i can't see the point in trying to defend what they're doing in any way.
Edit: Saying last years Fanfest backfired depends on your view. Legion is to make their EVE players happy, and I believe Fanfest didn't backfire in regards to that.

Last Fanfest definitely backfired. Nuking their existing product's playerbase for a demo of improved graphics that didn't even show any new gameplay? Um... yeah, that's what you call a backfire.

Not saying anything about Legion at Fanfest wouldn't have changed the result very much, as DUST would've been doomed either way.

I would say it nuked a lot of the core playerbase/community. DUST gets a lot of new players, and particularly there's been a huge uptick in South America, which I think is pretty noticeable in-game. But a lot of the core community seems to have moved on. And yeah, Fanfest is kinda the number one cause there.

Announced Legion earlier? That would've made people quit sooner.
Announced Legion later? People would've quit anyway due to no development on DUST, plus CCP would have had nothing to say at Fanfest.
CCP had to announce Legion at Fanfest, and I firmly believe not announcing it there wouldn't have changed anything, as people would've quit anyway (because as I said earlier, DUST was doomed no matter what).

The salvage process for DUST didn't start until after Fanfest when they realised they needed to keep working on DUST, so there wasn't anything for DUST to talk about. Pretty much all focus and work had been on Legion up to Fanfest.
I also don't know what that would've really changed. Announcing another game dooms DUST, no matter what.

I would have thought having a presentation at fanfest regarding the direction of dust and the new road map would have been appropriate.
I find it hilarious that last year they had nothing to say about dust, and they still had a presentation. Whereas this year they actually have something to say about dust, but there will be no presentation.
They've made some steps forward for dust, they should talk about it at fanfest. |

Soraya, it's not an announcement that's a bad idea, it's what you announce and how. Dust was already dying, and Legion was not announced well. Giving full thought on how to treat the Dust playerbase should have been a priority, because us PC people aren't going anywhere, and would play Legion regardless of what happened with Dust.
I got the surveys and heard the Legion announcement, and came back to play Dust, just to see the game evolve. The current Dust team has done a good job making Dust something remotely enjoyable again. But the game cannot evolve here. You can polish and fine tune all day long, but evolve it will not. EVE was able to evolve over time, because it not only had a dedicated fanbase and dev team (as Dust also does), but it also had a platform with which it could evolve, the PC.
Dust does not have this.
Someone can't go out and say, 'let me improve my PS3' so I can enjoy Dust better. Dust is a console online multiplayer exclusive. Such an exclusive dies with its system. How many people still play Killzone 1 multiplayer? How about Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo 2? http://www.bungie.net/en-US/Forum/Post/2139032/0/0
But you can easily find those games on PC today.
Even if CCP just straight up ports it raw to PC, that immortalizes it. And brings them more money. And if they really really want to, they can make it great. But to leave a game like this, which has far more potential than Killzone or Halo ever had, on this one platform that cannot grow, and not even announce something like, "We will move it to PC eventually, don't sweat." leaves me speechless. So for me and some others, it doesn't matter how healthy Dust may get on the PS3, if nothing is announced, and no plans for its future success are considered, it's a waste. It's like having a party on the Titanic.
Killzone made numerous iterations of itself, as did Halo. Why should Dust die? Why can't something long term be considered? It's an excellent product? What am I overlooking?
WoW is still around. Everquest is still around. Mechwarrior is still around. Ancient games. Alive because of both a dedicated playerbase and platform that will never grow old. Why is Dust being denied this still? Because people got mad over an announcement that was made improperly?
I'm done with Dust for now. I set the timetable that I would stop playing Dust, if they don't show any interests in porting it or making it evolve, namely if they don't say what they want to work on by FF. But they are on their timetable, not mine.
If they get going in a direction that I agree with again, then I will come back. I'm not deleting my character or anything drastic like that. I am just not going to play Dust or buy anything from them, for it.
