I will keep defending it. Because holding stuff to announce at Fanfest is a stupid idea, and I'm glad CCP is posting stuff as soon as it's possible, like announcing the next release and such, rather than waiting for a marketing event that has backfired two years in a row.
Soraya, it's not an announcement that's a bad idea, it's what you announce and how. Dust was already dying, and Legion was not announced well.
Giving full thought on how to treat the Dust playerbase should have been a priority, because us PC people aren't going anywhere, and would play Legion regardless of what happened with Dust.
I got the surveys and heard the Legion announcement, and came back to play Dust, just to see the game evolve. The current Dust team has done a good job making Dust something remotely enjoyable again. But the game cannot evolve here.
You can polish and fine tune all day long, but evolve it will not.
EVE was able to evolve over time, because it not only had a dedicated fanbase and dev team (as Dust also does), but it also had a platform with which it could evolve, the PC.
Dust does not have this.
Someone can't go out and say, 'let me improve my PS3' so I can enjoy Dust better.
Dust is a console online multiplayer exclusive. Such an exclusive dies with its system.
How many people still play Killzone 1 multiplayer? How about Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo 2?
http://www.bungie.net/en-US/Forum/Post/2139032/0/0But you can easily find those games on PC today.
Even if CCP just straight up ports it raw to PC, that immortalizes it. And brings them more money. And if they really really want to, they can make it great.
But to leave a game like this, which has far more potential than Killzone or Halo ever had, on this one platform that cannot grow, and not even announce something like, "We will move it to PC eventually, don't sweat." leaves me speechless. So for me and some others, it doesn't matter how healthy Dust may get on the PS3, if nothing is announced, and no plans for its future success are considered, it's a waste. It's like having a party on the Titanic.
Killzone made numerous iterations of itself, as did Halo.
Why should Dust die? Why can't something long term be considered? It's an excellent product? What am I overlooking?
WoW is still around. Everquest is still around. Mechwarrior is still around. Ancient games. Alive because of both a dedicated playerbase and platform that will never grow old.
Why is Dust being denied this still? Because people got mad over an announcement that was made improperly?
I'm done with Dust for now. I set the timetable that I would stop playing Dust, if they don't show any interests in porting it or making it evolve, namely if they don't say what they want to work on by FF. But they are on their timetable, not mine.
If they get going in a direction that I agree with again, then I will come back. I'm not deleting my character or anything drastic like that. I am just not going to play Dust or buy anything from them, for it.
