Ya so i was looking at the video and noticed that they were talking about Project Legion for half the video. the other half, or 1/4 of the video, you guys said that your focus atm is keeping a balance of the game. I been hearing lots of people talk about how legion is killing dust 514 and all that **** (I don't believe that because the players online numbers are the same).
It seems that you guys are giving up on dust 514. That CEO dude said that "the only way to realize that vision, is to go on PC".
Whats going on?

In short what Dust was meant to be will be Legion on PC.
Legion is not green lit yet, so it might not ever get to see the light of day. If it does, there is no guarantee that it will ever come back to a console, and what will or will not make the transition from your Dust to Legion accounts is up in the air.
Dust has a limited life span and will see limited improvement going forward.

Short answer yes they will. but that will just be console players.
however they are hoping that eve players will also play on legion, given that they were so upset when dust was released on the console market.
they assume that those who pay for subscription to eve will spend more on legion and they need a more powerful platform for the pve and extra graphics etc.
they won't go with ps4, some say for the "home ground" benefits of the pc others that its due to differences between them and sony. there also seems to be a large underestimation of what the ps4 can handle. probably as they overestimated the ps3. |

EVE players will NEVER allow ANYONE outside of EVE to have a real impact on their universe. It doesn't matter what system DUST/LEGION is on, the EVE universe is not for anyone else, only the people in EVE. I would suggest tracking down some posts regarding DUST on the EVE forums. Go see what they think of anyone not in a space ship. Its not PCMasterRace, its SpaceShipMasterRace. This attitude is amplified by the fact that the Devs themselves feel this way.
Tranquility is not for you, its not for me, its not for anyone who is not already involved in EVE.
Of course, CCP has no problems proping up CCP Ratatooi as a puppet dictator. Keep telling him you appreciate his hard work. He is simply here to keep sucking you idiots dry. When the money stops flowing, DUST shuts down. And no amount of money coming into DUST will result in anything more than some silly hotfixes that could have been done years ago over the course of 10minutes. Everything after 1.8 is pure profit. Keep chasing that carrot. |

Very good. yet you still waste time and effort writing embittered statements on the forums.
of course your right about the money, we've known this for a while. but anything being kept running will stop once the money is gone.
so you think that rattati is doing a bad job? you don't think that dust has improved through the last two hotfixes?
I could be wrong but I think you're on your own there.
I'm chasing nothing. but as I said a while ago i'll keep playing until the guys I play the game with stop.
at the end of the day this was a FREE game. not even just a game, a FREE one!

Not bitter, and if you want to feel like my comment was directed squarely at you, then thats your choice. As i'm sure you have seen. I would say Ratatooi is doing a great job. The servers are still up, so people are still paying money. Which is sad, since a quick look over these forums shows that people think CCP is "doing their best" to provide for the present and future of Dust/Legion. In reality, they are running what is far less than a skeleton crew (they were running a skeleton crew 8 months ago), and bysiply having a blue tag actually give "feedback" people take this as some amazing sign that a turn around is coming, and maybe numbered patches will return, and maybe Legion will come to PS4. To continue to make money, CCP has removed pretty much everyone from Dust development, fudge a hand full of numbers here and there, and from time to time make a post.
If you aren't paying, more power to you. Please continue to enjoy the game. Now, if you (a general you, not you specifically) are paying and wondering about asset and grind transfer and whether Legion will hit PS4 and all this other stuff, well then that is funny, and to hope the current situation isn't an obvious cash grab after the behavior CCP has displayed is naive. Legion is not green lit, will not be green lit, and more than likely CCP will ride EVE into the dirt at which point the company will fold.
If people want to spend money for what is available now, thats one thing (pretty sad as the game is still pretty rough), but if people are spending money based on lies and trickery about "the future of Dust", then I think the things I say need to be heard. Though I know nobody is listening.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him stop spending money on a failed game. My heart goes out to you all, even though i'm the bad guy.........for now.
If this all was 2 and a half years ago, id say Ratatooi was doing a decent job. Seeing as how Dust is 2 and a half years into pre beta, id say Ratatooi is a criminal just like the rest of CCP.
Of course, he COULD be one of the few survivors from CCPs Atlanta office, in which case he was probably an accountant thrown into his current job due to company cheapness. I which case I do feel for him. |

no I don't think that you were aiming it at me, I just replied.
as to people still paying, in a world where people will waste over -ú100 just on drink on a single night out, when they could throw parties for similar amounts.. or spend stupid amounts of cash on smoking, or magazines that they throw away, or any other multitude of ways they enjoy, I won't be condemning anybody for spending money on a dead end game, if they enjoy it.
can't say that personally I'm even slightly interested in legion I'm not a pc gamer either way, but if people chose to believe it will be out on the p.c that's their choice, as for ps4 versions.. ccp already said that they wouldn't even look into til they perfected the p.c version given how much improvement has happened following small hotfixes, compared to the mess being made during the uprising period, if you do believe they will perfect the p.c game you have much more faith than I do (again not specifically you.) in other words I'm kinda in agreement with you about data transfer
as for ccp rattati, people believe he's doing a good job, understandable the game has gotten better and is still improving. he has been replying to people on here which is more than can be said for rouge, et al (maybe it is a cash grab, but then all games are) doesn't really mean the overall impression of ccp has improved though.
out of curiosity.. do you still play the game? |

Basically CCP jumped the gun with the Legion announcement.
The problem was there was Sony exec's in the Audience that here there for the Valkyrie project advancement as Project Morpheus is depending on CCP to deliver a game for their platform.
When CCP mismanaged their words at the conference and keynote speech about DUST and how Legion is their main focus, Sony withdrew their generous discount for PSN updates.
So that's it, it's no longer cheaper for CCP to update everyone's Playstation. So now they have to pay a bit AND go through the whole Sony Q&A process..
This prompted CCP Shanghai to make the announcement that they had no more plans for client side Updates. They will commit to server side Updates that do not require to go through the PSN process.
Which is what we are getting in the Hotfixes.
I HOPE CCP isn't that silly.. Content is money for them in a F2p model.. I Hope they are thinking about some dumbed down Legion maps for DUST(seeing how they are using the same engine) SO we can battle test them now.
Heavy weapon variants.. Again so they can be tested. AND GET PAID NOW FOR IT's DEVELOPMENT. Rattati can balance it later.
And Most we are hoping CCP is actually willing to MARKET their game to new players... By developing a PROPER NPE. and PROPER advertisement rather then a banner add here or there...

Glass Bowtie I think that you have hit a lot of nails on the head with what you spoke of .
Rattati has been doing the job that he's paid to do and with the given environment , meaning some of the Dev's who have left the game for unknown and numerous reasons ... he will not slack on his job or else he just might be next .
Most of the community favorites as far as in the dev department are gone from CCP all together where only one is left .
Rattati is basically damage control . The president of CCP and rouge himself seem too big to apologize for FF and it seems like they just don't believe that the community warrant an apology .
They did mislead the community and also I just don't believe that demo at FF took as short of time as was told because development for Dust has struggled for a while now and to have someone just come in and in a few months address issues that have been a problem for sometime , shows that attention has lacked for the same .
It's sad really if you think about it , to mislead the same consumers that YOU as a business relies on and at the same time still try to garner the same consumers support .
We are living in an age where most do not pay attention to detail and have short selective memories and that's what's sad because , problems will not get the attention deserved or cease to be problems .
I don't spend money on the game because I just don't enjoy it like I use to and I see how CCP treats it's customers .
They are slowly making this game as vanilla as they can and taking away most of the options that created many to enjoy this game to begin with , to me they are holding the " fun factor " hostage by not allowing a skill point refund and at least infantry that should have been done in 1.8 ... only to keep people paying for boosters but what they fail to realize is that , if people are enjoying themselves ... they will pay but when you limit their options and other options arise that offer what Dust doesn't , then the same people will leave or just play less and that gets CCP zero in the monetary department .
If the game was fun they would get money , for me and a few others ... this game is just not fun anymore , at least not like it use to be and that was before Rattati .
The things that he is doing should have been done , so while he is doing a great job ... lets not forget that .
You can also tell that they are under stress , you can tell how Rattati has a shorter fuse now and when you deal with the public ... one can not let the public get to them no matter what , you have to have a thick skin but it seems that most at CCP don't .
You would think that CCP would have given the infantry refund that should have been in 1.8.

They never agreed to anything like that...
Pretty much they said the "Mark you left in the sand will carry over to Legion".. Referring to the sandbox.
We don't know if SP, ISK.. much of anything will be transferred to Legion. just a vague promise. Which equates to nothing from CCP.
But let's detach our personal emotions and feelings about our hard earned SP and think from CCP's shoes trying to build and develop a balanced persistent FPS game... How do you transfer players over with 60-80 million skillpoints+ over without causing HUGE MASSIVE issues. Personally I can't think of a way to do it without nerfing them somehow or saying SCREW YOU to everyone joining in to the brand new game.
Next is... Dust 514 is on PS3... A completely unique platform.. No matter if Legion is a success on the PC and get's ported to the PS4... DUST still is a product that is in it's own market, not directly competing with any of their products.
PS3 is being supported by SOny for next 3 years with new titles comming out for each of those years.. there are 90 million playstation 3's in the world.. They just don't get thrown in the garbage..
DUST as a business decision will be on the ps3 for a while... If they market it in Emerging markets that are now accepting the PS3 technology as a more standard entertainment system as it is affordable now(A PS4 in Brazil is 1800 dollars) ... I don't see DUST going anywhere for a year or two.
So what would you do with all the character data on DUST, when legion started... How could you fulfill your promise of keeping the "Marks in the sand" that players have made. Realistically I Don't see them transferring 60m skillpoint+ characters over to Legion. and then trying to make them fit into their new game.
They will give you something.. From DUST.. And probably some other bonuses... because it makes sense as a business to give incentives.. specially digital ones that cost you minimal capital. |

We have all said and heard the same arguements. To put it simply they are just giving us the hotfixes to quell most (if not all) of the angry people after that Legion announcement fiasco and to try and generate as much revenue as possible for Legion. Honestly i have no hopes for Legion nor do i care about Legion. I care about the current state of the current game i am playing which is Dust514. And since Rattatui and other developers have already stated that development on Dust514 is stopped and that they will do hotfixes here and there than that is all i will ever expect (if even that). I will also plan for Dust 514 to "be killed off" at some point since thats how most game companies operate. Create a game, get bored with game, create new game, watch old game slowly die off, put in hotfixes to keep players buying goodies til new game gets more players, shut down servers of old game.
I let my sniper rifle bullet to your face do all the talking :P

Basically, CCP told Dust players that were never going to get the game that they were promised on PS3. Hence, they made the announcement that they were developing Legion which basically brought about two problems: 1. In effect, this signaled Dust was living on borrowed time, and 2. They did this while promoting a project (Legion) as the replacement for Dust...but did so before Legion is an actual product.
With focus now shifting to a project that may or may not ever come to fruition, resources and talent have been diverted away from Dust and into Legion, with CCP making the decision to abandon the patch updating strategy with Dust (I don't know the details if this was entirely CCP-made or a fall-out with Sony) and instead focus on smaller tweaks that can impact the game's balance. In essence, CCP has now gone from over-promising and under-delivering to actually trying to make Dust an enjoyable game by working with what is actually in the game instead of trying to introduce more and more items/features to paper over the game's deficiencies.
So long as you're willing to simply enjoy playing a free game with friends--and not worried about what the future holds for Dust--the game has been greatly improved from where it was just two months ago.

Best guess is that the population of players on dust will dwindle due to destiny and about 5/6 other good looking games coming out around September-October, player migration to ps4, etc
then I believe dust will close.

Whats going on? There was no Dust514 keynote on the fanfest. And Yes they gave up Dust514 cause there wont be anymore client updates which translates to "no new content ever again". Rattati and the CPM's are just there to motivate AUR sales. Just look at the caldari scout for example and its scan precision bonus:
-scan precision bonus gets moved from the caldari scout to the amarr scout -amarr scout is the least used scout cause of its useless bonus -lots of veteran players specced into them for competetive reasons/FOTM
Alone by announcing this CCP pushed the veteran players to buy AUR boosters to get the needed SP in time to spec into the amarr scout (roughly 2.8 mil SP required) when the "hotfix hits the server. Ya know tripple SP events are not just the only way to get people buying AUR/boosters. You can aswell use the tool to flip the balance upside down. |

It seems that you guys are giving up on dust 514. That CEO dude said that "the only way to realize that vision, is to go on PC".
Whats going on? There was no Dust514 keynote on the fanfest. And Yes they gave up Dust514 cause there wont be anymore client updates which translates to "no new content ever again". Rattati and the CPM's are just there to motivate AUR sales. Just look at the caldari scout for example and its scan precision bonus: -scan precision bonus gets moved from the caldari scout to the amarr scout -amarr scout is the least used scout cause of its useless bonus -lots of veteran players specced into them for competetive reasons/FOTM Alone by announcing this CCP pushed the veteran players to buy AUR boosters to get the needed SP in time to spec into the amarr scout (roughly 2.8 mil SP required) when the "hotfix hits the server. Ya know tripple SP events are not just the only way to get people buying AUR/boosters. You can aswell use the tool to flip the balance upside down.
Or we just want to level the playing field, make the game enjoyable with as few OP suits as possible so players enjoy the game and aren't forced into FOTM fits because their preferred fit simple isn't viable.
Those tinfoil hats may come in handy one day...

I hope that's what your doing because right now everything seems so boring and fustrating. Everyone in their heavies and caldari scouts with RR and CR. I have seen countless amarr heavies and caldari scouts they 're so annoying

Bethhy wrote:... How do you transfer players over with 60-80 million skillpoints+ over without causing HUGE MASSIVE issues. Personally I can't think of a way to do it without nerfing them somehow or saying SCREW YOU to everyone joining in to the brand new game.
Too easy. New Legion characters start with 50,000,000SP and skills start at 1,500,000SP to learn. That way all of us silly console players that threw money at dust will get to keep our SP and may also get a slight advantage if we grind from here on out. Also a perceived benefit to "low" SP (<20m SP) dust players would be getting 10's of millions of SP just for moving to legion. Sure they would be starting over, but perception is everything... |
