Basically CCP jumped the gun with the Legion announcement.
The problem was there was Sony exec's in the Audience that here there for the Valkyrie project advancement as Project Morpheus is depending on CCP to deliver a game for their platform.
When CCP mismanaged their words at the conference and keynote speech about DUST and how Legion is their main focus, Sony withdrew their generous discount for PSN updates.
So that's it, it's no longer cheaper for CCP to update everyone's Playstation. So now they have to pay a bit AND go through the whole Sony Q&A process..
This prompted CCP Shanghai to make the announcement that they had no more plans for client side Updates. They will commit to server side Updates that do not require to go through the PSN process.
Which is what we are getting in the Hotfixes.
I HOPE CCP isn't that silly.. Content is money for them in a F2p model.. I Hope they are thinking about some dumbed down Legion maps for DUST(seeing how they are using the same engine) SO we can battle test them now.
Heavy weapon variants.. Again so they can be tested. AND GET PAID NOW FOR IT's DEVELOPMENT. Rattati can balance it later.
And Most we are hoping CCP is actually willing to MARKET their game to new players... By developing a PROPER NPE. and PROPER advertisement rather then a banner add here or there...
No one knows about this product, and if they do? it's all 3rd person info. which never bodes well. |

They never agreed to anything like that...
Pretty much they said the "Mark you left in the sand will carry over to Legion".. Referring to the sandbox.
We don't know if SP, ISK.. much of anything will be transferred to Legion. just a vague promise. Which equates to nothing from CCP.
But let's detach our personal emotions and feelings about our hard earned SP and think from CCP's shoes trying to build and develop a balanced persistent FPS game... How do you transfer players over with 60-80 million skillpoints+ over without causing HUGE MASSIVE issues. Personally I can't think of a way to do it without nerfing them somehow or saying SCREW YOU to everyone joining in to the brand new game.
Next is... Dust 514 is on PS3... A completely unique platform.. No matter if Legion is a success on the PC and get's ported to the PS4... DUST still is a product that is in it's own market, not directly competing with any of their products.
PS3 is being supported by SOny for next 3 years with new titles comming out for each of those years.. there are 90 million playstation 3's in the world.. They just don't get thrown in the garbage..
DUST as a business decision will be on the ps3 for a while... If they market it in Emerging markets that are now accepting the PS3 technology as a more standard entertainment system as it is affordable now(A PS4 in Brazil is 1800 dollars) ... I don't see DUST going anywhere for a year or two.
So what would you do with all the character data on DUST, when legion started... How could you fulfill your promise of keeping the "Marks in the sand" that players have made. Realistically I Don't see them transferring 60m skillpoint+ characters over to Legion. and then trying to make them fit into their new game.
They will give you something.. From DUST.. And probably some other bonuses... because it makes sense as a business to give incentives.. specially digital ones that cost you minimal capital. |

Too easy. New Legion characters start with 50,000,000SP and skills start at 1,500,000SP to learn. That way all of us silly console players that threw money at dust will get to keep our SP and may also get a slight advantage if we grind from here on out. Also a perceived benefit to "low" SP (<20m SP) dust players would be getting 10's of millions of SP just for moving to legion. Sure they would be starting over, but perception is everything...
Your a real person?
You can't... be.. ...No one could look at that problem with that many complex variables.. and just be like.. Well lets give EVERYONE s.hit tons of SP then.
Easy fix right? (Sarcasim)
LIke WooooooooooooooW.
DUST's forum discussions about balance in a nuttshell right there. Like my gawd...
*P.S* and if your goal is to make a shark pool for only sharks... This creates a much bigger problem then characters that simply have alot of SP.... it creates a player skill gap that you could never balance. And having a group of players that perpetually play each other will drop all of their stats and eventually leave the walls of the pool pointless, as sharks will start to make their way into kiddie pools. |

If a new legion character starts with 50m SP instead of the current 1m (or whatever it is now) and the cheapest skill to get to lvl 1 is 1.5m SP instead of 12k (or so), letting dust characters bring over their dust SP (60 mil using your example) would allow new legion players to be competitive from the get go yet give dust players a very slight advantage whilst still sticking to their word "all SP will be retained". A "sh.t ton of SP" it is not a lot if skills cost a "sh.t ton of SP" to purchase.
I mentioned nothing of item/suit balance and there is no way to balance player skill (nor should there be).
Also, there is more than one "your" and they have different meanings, so if you must try to insult me, please take the time use the correct one. Thanks.
Thanks for making my brain hurt trying to even get into your world.
Now I have to go and eat some aspirin just to look at my screen in a non blurred state.
