I am doing some research before spending my skill points. It looks like I can get 168,000-210,000 from passive skill points every week. If I am understanding how the login bonus works this should be accurate. I cant find an exact number for the active cap. 185,000? Roughly 400,000 a week. It doesn't seem too bad. What is the best class and weapons for making experience? Which game mode allows me to get the most training?
Do any of you purchase boosters? Is the gain worth the money? I was reading about faction boosters but it seems the faction warfare game mode is an extra layer to buying gear that I don't need yet. Is it important?
I have a million questions but I don't want people to skip over an intimidating block of text.
Any help that you can give would be appreciated.

Never. Ever. Spend one thin dime on this game. Go Gal Logi proto as soon as possible and get a rail rifle. Then you will have won this game and you can then move on to something else.

This character came with 10,000,000 Skill points. After a few hours examining the skill tree I don't think it will be enough.

It takes more SP to fill out all that equipment, but even just using all standard gear you can pull in good WP each match doing this.
Use a MLT dropship at the start of matches to place your uplinks in hard to reach places, and put your nanohives up there so your team can camp them and you get more WP. You might lose the match since your team just ends up camping on towers, but what do you care? You soak up the WP, and don't earn anything extra for a win as opposed to a loss.
Reps give you TONS of WP since they removed the WP cap, just follow a heavy around. Scanners will give you oodles of points in a squad, particularly from orbitals, and 60 WP every time someone dies and doesn't bleed out is just money in the bank.

It's a real strategy, but it usually only works if your team is the losing one. If your team is doing the stomping then you won't get as many points.
Also, uplinks are only good if they don't get destroyed, so learn which maps benefit from uplinks in dropship access only areas. And learn to fly. |

After a few hours examining the skill tree I don't think it will be enough. 10,000,000 is plenty to have 1 thoroughly badass build. Max out your 4 main dropsuit upgrades (armor, shields, biotics, and CPU/PG) Light Weapons Operations and Sidearms Operations to level 5 Handheld Weapons Upgrades to level 5 Your favorite weapon to level 5, and level 5 Proficiency Favorite dropsuit level 3 on basic frame and level 5 on the racial variant
That should leave you with about 1.5 million left to invest in a couple of ADV trinkets.

Which core skills will help the most? It seems like people recommend militia stuff. The basic seems so cheap and it has better fitting requirements. What is the reason for running inferior gear?

Dust community, why haven't you given this guy a straight answer yet? Goregasm Elite, the answer to your question is that no play style allows the fastest character progression to any significant degree. The reason behind this is that there are three ways to gain skill points,
1. Passively 2. Daily log-ins 3. Actively
Obviously no matter what play style you choose, the amount of points you gain passively and through logging in are the same. Now the thing to consider with actively gaining skill points how those points are rewarded. The answer is simple
Active skill points rewarded = (Seconds spent in battle x 5) + (warpoints earned x 1)
Now let's say your typical skirmish match lasts 15 minutes. That is 900 seconds, meaning 4500 SP just from that part of of the equation alone. Now as you can see quite clearly, whether you gain 500 WP, 1000 WP, or 2000 WP a match, most your points are coming from simply participating (unfortunately, depending on who you ask). So my advice to you is don't pick a role based on how fast you can gain SP, but rather pick a role on what you think is fun.
P.S. Passive points are rewarded 1,000 an hour, so 24,000 a day and 168,000 a week. Login in at max is 6,000 a day so 42,000 a week. Active points are rewarded up to 190,400 a week. After you hit the active cap for the week you can still earn up to 1,000 WP.
Ignoring any points gained after hitting the cap, you gain 400,400 SP a week.

Highly educational. After the cap those WP = SP? Also there are two other slots for creating characters, I notice they do not receive passive skill point gain. Can I use these for something or are they just for show?

Though doing passive things (CPU, PG, Armor, Shields, and Biotics) never really hurt anyone, unless they didn't do them.
Re-Specialization? I heard you can not do that. Was I misinformed? With how complicated everything is, it would be a nice feature.

Can I use these for something or are they just for show? Yes sorry I should of been more clear. After you hit the cap for the week you get as much SP per match as your WP, with a cap of 1000. So if you gain 852 WP in a match after cap, you'll get 852 more SP. If you get 1000 WP in a match after cap, you'll get 1000 more SP. And if you get 3000 WP in a match after cap, you'll still get just 1000 more SP. Weekly cap resets every Wednesday on downtime (so to use right now as an example, after the next downtime the cap will be reset).
You can create a second and third character as an alt and I believe back in the closed beta CCP allowed them to gain passive points as well, but currently you cannot. You can still log into them every day to get the log in bonus, but that is a very slow progression if its your only source of SP. If there is another account on your PS3 however and that account has a character on Dust then it will receive passive skill points (one of the many reason people suggest that CCP simply allow our two given alts to receive passive SP).

A lot of people will tell you to go for the FoTM.
Don't listen.
Save your SP till we find out about the next update. We should be getting a blog in a week or so and the update shortly after.
I believe the system goes:
Cores to 3
Suit
Weapon
There is no right suit to use(though most will say to go for a Cal or Gal Logi) or right weapon(though most people will say RR/CR/ScR or some jerks will say the AR)
Stick with MLT suits and throw a point or two into a few weapons to test the waters. With the login bonus I think you get a extra 42,000 sp a week(after maxing it out in the 7th day) so consider that a little bonus to you around with some weapons.
Give us a idea of what your play style is, what you have tried and what you wanna try to do overall.
Do you intend to stick to the ground?
Vehicles?
Are you a fan of armour?
Shields?
Reps?
Would you rather sneak around?
Defend a point?
Be a force multiplier?

My advice, listen to Aero Yassavi and don't spend your sp on weapons and dropsuits yet. The best thing is to get your dropsuit upgrades done(Shield, Armor, core, electronics, and engineering) these will be you most important in survivability and fitting you dropsuits with good gear when you chose your dropsuit, weapons, equipment. Now under you armor and shield upgrades are you choices of armor plates/repairs, shield extenders/regulators/and energizers. you don't want to skill those till you decide what suit you want., well maybe not the armour reps because I use one on every suit
I disagree with Ryno(?) I would not worry about handheld weapon upgrades( gives you damage modules) to start with depending on your suit I would worry about what I listed above Just my opinion.
