Whoa... OSG had a squad in FW 2 days ago that carried a bunch of AV nades. I haven't been stomped on that hard in a while. My poor car - <\3 Two days ago I was still part of D-UNI But honestly, to contribute to this post rather than derailing it. This whole spit-spat was started and pushed by the Learning Coalition, all because a couple of their 'leading members' have a bitter taste in their mouths when they were part of Dust University. It's not rocket science, especially with Mister O'Dell making these sort of posts. On top of that, PC has nothing to contribute for our communities new members. Seriously... what benefit does PC have? Sure at the moment it's the only game mode that has friendly fire enabled, but once FW 2.0 comes out... PC won't really have any benefits for training corporations. The directors of D-UNI decided to pull out of PC because it was too stressful, and members inside the corporation weren't actually interested in it. Honestly - the only way to train is trial by fire. But there's a down-side to how Dust Uni does it - or so I would assume. Part of the training is learning cohesion with your fellow mates to better match them and work together. If you're always training with different people then the cohesion can become unstable. Though if you run all of them enough using the same strategies I'm sure they'd pick up on the dos and don'ts. But after being in PC for half a year now - it's just my opinion that the best way to train is to get your best suit possible and join a real team and practice with them constantly. But - again - just my opinion. I have no idea how Dust Uni actually trains people.
this is great advice, and the leadership does realize that coming to PC with slapped together squads of players who don't know each others playstyle is a disaster waiting to happen.
but this is where I think we may be misunderstood....
the very nature of our corp is to train the basics and some advanced level mechanics.... but its mostly basics.
we are a neutral training corp with no desire of being a player in PC. getting into PC was all thanks to Truexer0z who just wanted to show new players what they are training towards and to give those corps on the brink of being ready for competitive PC a chance to get their feet wet in it before facing the big dogs.
purely charitable. that's it.
we BELIEVE in this game and its future and we just want to do our part in cultivating the community.
we love dust and eve.
having squads that always play together would be great ( we have plans to do this) but our staff is to small to serve our large corp in this manner at this time.
but we do squad up with our players often, answer their questions, and show them squad tactics. we hold lectures, even have members of CCP come in to talk with our members.
we try to prepare a merc to join a competitive corp or to start their own.
we want our players to move on.
so cohesive squads becomes a conundrum:
how do you have a dedicated squad of mercs in a corp that wants you to go to another corp?

Not jumping at you, you're opinion is certainly correct. Not everyone is going to learn the same way as everyone else. Some will learn by reading guides, others will learn by seeing - then doing - and still others will learn by throwing themselves at the fray to figure out the do's and don'ts of DUST 514.
D-UNI has a lot of ways they train people, lectures happen to be one of our known avenues. So if you're up to it, Sota, you can contact their Director of Education (Sherrad Ventonii) about doing a guest lecture in whatever it is you specialize in. Lectures are typically 45 minutes with a 15 minute Q&A session at the end. |

I understand better now, thanks for taking the time to explain. Sounds like the best solution for you guys on the squad issue is to handle it like military drills - it only takes a few times seeing it done before you catch on. "Go here, make sure this spot is clear, scan, set up links in spots here for these reasons. Move to this point, clear it, and see how your team is pushing. Keep close, never leaving each other more then shooting distance." sort of thing. It helps create cohesion quicker - and is a method both STB and Imps used in the past on new recruits to catch them up quickly to be PC ready.
Just an idea though - you probably already do this.

I'll get them to join the channel so then can help on there free time as well. No promises though, a lot of people are frustrated with the game.
But I definitely want to contribute a bit more. I even plan to make my own corp eventually who won't be just vets, but people of like minded agendas of improving themselves.

Honestly, we've all gotten to that frustration bit. Those of us who are still around (at least in terms of veteran players) are here either because they like inflicting pain on themselves, or because they actually care for the potential this game has. Sticking through it, and helping newer players based on our experiences is really a good way to retain players, in my opinion.
But either way, good luck on your endeavor to create a corporation that's focused on improving themselves. Honestly, people like destroying things that can benefit others, and it would not surprise me if you had a few enemies quietly plotting, especially now with this particular statement you came forwards with. Don't want to be that guy, but I'll be that guy for the sake of it being four in the morning (at the time of this post.) The meta-game is alive, and well. |

We decided to opt out of PC due to some political bull$#!+ from another corp.
As many of you are aware, we do meta 2 PC matches and "all out" PC matches wich have a no limits rule.
As many of you also know, we are a training corp, not many people other than our fine staff have the ability to field proto gear/modules and weapons etc. this results in the no limits matches being mostly a proto stomp by the other team (unless it was decided otherwise that adv & below was the thresh-hold).
We informed our "students"/members that we are abandoning PC for the time being. Many of our members were outraged at this and as a result, we had a frenzy of people join in our last match.......wich I got dced from (stupid internet). We still hold training events and Q-syncs so our members aren't completely in the dark. As far as I'm concerned FW is a suitable replacement for PC.
We will not stop training with other corps and as such if you wish to set up a training match on your corps own turf (not to mention the fact we don't have any turf anymore) simply mail one of our directors.
But that's just my side of the story.

also when you are done with the useless flaming war the university would be happy to work with your corp in furthering our mutual goal of providing a new player experience and training ground for mercs.

lol this thread was an enjoyable read.
PC was fun, but was too much work. So we pulled out. Simple as that. Anyone who attacked our districts next was going to get them really.
We will be continuing to do PC matches, but by dropping clone packs on districts with friendly corps who are interested in our training match programs.
We have been very recluse up to this point because we have been trying to develop a solid foundation for our corporation to stand on. With programs that will help new players learn the fundamentals of the game at the same time allowing them to branch out into more focused avenues of game play. This takes time. Eve University has had almost 10 years to prefect and refine their programs. We have had less then a year, but are doing the best that we can provided the limitations of Dust 514.
We encourage our members to move on once they feel they have learned enough to start participating in competitive matches. Considering that every corporation has different ways of doing things we feel that it is our goal to provide information that would be expected from those organizations. This is accomplished by our certification programs which ensure that those who are able to pass the evaluations have a higher understanding what might be expected of them within competitive corporations.
We are just starting to reach out to the community by doing public lectures, orientations, & joint operations with supportive organizations. We ask that those of you with experience in certain fields please contact our management staff so we can hold guest lectures or events to help our new players learn and be ready for such things as PC.
It is sad that their are people out there who blindly hate an organization that is only focus is to help the game's community grow. Good people volunteer their time to help others and people in our community insult, smear and try to derail their efforts. Be it for personal interests or ambition, or just to troll for laughs. These people deserve much more credit then our community has given them recently.

As has already been stated, about 2 weeks ago I brought up the issue that I believed it was time to pull from PC.
With the upcoming changes to FW and the possible increase in squad size to 16 that may be coming, I consider FW to be a more efficient use of our time. We could very quickly get a full squad of 16 together have a brief tactical rundown and an AAR after the battle, with none of it being time restricted to just one battle every 24 hours. We can organise this no matter the time zone.
With lectures and the semi regular Q&A's I do in Lecture.D-UNI (thank you to CCP FoxFour for joining us last night by the way) we can serve our stated mission to help and be an interactive version of the tutorial.
PC was a fun adventure and we made back our investment plus a bit more but in its current iteration it's a ball breaker to arrange matches and the time spent in negotiation by our staff can be better spent elsewhere.
I'm not ruling out a return to PC at some point in the future but until we know the mechanics of PC 2.0 and we've also left Molden Heath I don't see us going back to it anytime soon.
