Tanks are pretty damn good man. They can already be pretty damn unkillable. The respect is because of the skill changes, not because ccp doesn't want you to use vehicles.

Woah easy there fella. The gallente assault rifles kick should build up as more shots are fired. Not instant uncontrollable kick from the get go. Firing in bursts should be encoouraged, rather than not firing the weapon at all.
