Honestly dropships should be a 4th of their price , and on top of that, there should be a weak bpo dropship so that we can get some pilots in this game. |

Funny, I've seen DS last all match long while taking out tanks, installations, other DS, all the little bunnys running around on the ground. Pilot gets tons of SP cause hes SQ lead and has the defend order on the DS.
The real problem is they can be difficult to learn, so there aren't many good pilots. And you NEED gunners who can shoot. |

Despite the best efforts by the OP, this thread holds some very valid points. Seems to me that whenever I try using a dropship, blueberries never get in, but it seems to be priority 1 to destroy. Maybe we can use the hate for dropships as a distraction on the battlefield! |

As do I. I've flown so many dropships, mostly fully tanked ones, and all it takes is a little coordination from militia guys, or one dedicated AV guy, and you're toast. Unless of course you were using the old boosters, flying around in circles all match, not contributing to anything.
Dropships are easy to learn now, just expensive. In the current state of the game, they have very little use aside from being a novelty. Here's hoping they FINALLY give us some love in Uprising, but considering the trends, I anticipate more nerfs on the horizon. |

Allow me to educate you. When you crash a Lav into a tank, it does a very minimal and finite amount of damage. A good tank could shrug off an entire team of constant lav battery. BUT
A drop-ship colliding with a drop-ship is an instant 1 hit KO through all shields and armor for both parties. And not only does it bring the armor to zero but triggers the "death spiral" from which if you use a repair unit, no repair will happen. And full control is lost of the vehicle till it plummets to the earth for explosive impact.
Do you now see the difference? The problem?
Additionally a viper crashing into a tank does as much damage to the tank as a Lav. Except it cost 150k ISK and the viper will die instantly upon impact. |

Dropships aren't overpriced. Maps are simply undersized. Bigger maps with objectives that are a sniper's shot apart, and then we can talk about pricing. |

Maps and squad sizes are both too small to properly employ a dropship.
It's like using a Huey to move you and your friends around the schoolyard. Complete and utter overkill when you can walk almost as fast.
The DS requires a coordinated force of seven to be fully effective. The pilot and three infantry are not enough of an assault force to take a defended objective by air. It's not immediately obvious given the sixteen mercs per side, but pub matches don't contain the required "ammo" needed by a dropship.

Copy left is talking out of his ***, Don't take my word for it. Just go spend the 300k and see for yourself.
Viper+Dropship(any type) collision = both will die.
Viper+ tank(any) collision = tank will hardly notice the cash you just threw at it. Unless it was like a militia shield tank with 200 armor and it's shield had already been ripped off or something.

Okay, a couple points and a long story. Dropships are not overpriced. Simple as that. When used properly a dropship can provide a constant flow of friendlies into the weakest parts of enemy territory. I have been in a dozen games where this alone has turned the tides of an entire battle. If you don't see how that is possible I can detail exactly how hard it is for an enemy to hold ground in their own territory when they are having heavy machine-gunners dropping in around them from every direction and snipers suddenly sprouting from their own roofs. Yes, dropships are NOT the easiest things to fly, but with minimal practice you ought to be able to figure it out. To expand on both this and the distraction factor: occasionally for fun I will call in a simple militia dropship. I used to pilot a lot in the first builds so I enjoy taking these things to their limits, I have crashed a couple by doing stupid (but crazy cool!!) stunts but I have also caused such a huge distraction in some matches just with my presence that my team has won the game. A prime example of this is a game a couple months ago on manus peak. The enemy sniper coverage was insane. They had heavys rolling my team on the ground, I was running solo for once and as usual the blue-dots weren't doing ****. I decided I would have some fun rather than waste my isk and efforts on them so I called in a dropship. I began doing aerial manouvres for fun, getting as close to the ground as fast as possible and flying up the gentral road from a-c-b at top speed about two feet above the ground. This TERRIFIED the other team, every single player was suddenly armed with swarms and forges but nobody could hit me because I was putting everything I had into flying. I was squishing snipers on hills with the tip of my dropship, dodging an OB, tauntinglr flying by a foot in front of an armed railgun at top speed and generally just having an extremely enjoyable time. While I was doing this my bluedots finally took some initiative and hacked EVERYTHING. Suddenly the game that we were losing by about 75% swings around for a solid victory. This is with an un-edited militia dropship, solo on a bored night people, imagine if I'd had gunners and an uplink! Or had even practiced flying the new mechanics more than once before this? Overpriced? I don't think so. I have never laughed so hard while playing a videogame, maybe try Priceless. As for bpo, this was done in the earlier builds and was removed for MANY reasons, we've moved past this. And finally, OP: TaLkInG lIkE ThIs PiSsEs EvErYoNe OfF. It's not clever and if you want any kind of future in New Eden I'd suggest you cut it now. |

Sorry but nobody is or ever has been terrified of a dropship. The fact that they all switched to AV is because they just wanted a free kill and to knock you out of 150k.
Furthermore if a single one of those players had a militia forge gun, and two opposable thumbs they could have knocked you right out of the air within the span of 4 seconds or less.
The only way for a cheap drop-ship to survive a map where one player has a militia FG is to hide behind a hill or building the entire game. FG are incredibly easy to aim too. Any player half trying could nail you at max range, first shot, no problem.

PS: A dropship is only as good as it's pilot, I don't care how much money you spent on it or if it is fully maxed out, if you suck at flying it it won't make a difference. I am by no means a pro pliot, not a even a great one, but I have seen some who are. There are some pilots out there that will blow your mind with their ability to effortlessly dodge everything you throw at em while STILL providing full support for their team |

Like I said, just about every player on the map was firing at me, WITH forge guns and swarms, I'm pretty sure I recognized them by the massive rounds of blue plasma zipping by me. And as far as "hiding behind a building"? As I just said I was flying DIRECTLY THROUGH the burnzones. At ground level. I don't think it's possible to get any further from hiding. If I recall I went behind the tower a single time to recharge my shield from a couple lucky swarms. And as far as a terror factor? You try running a heavy or assault, shooting at the reddots to turn around to see an honest to dust dropship bearing down on you at full speed. Or maybe sniping from a mountaintop to suddenly hear the rapidly approaching engine of my ship just to be squished before you can even comprehend what is going on.From some of the messages I have recieved from the victims after these kinds of games I have gathered it can be RATHER disconcerting to say the very least. |

Then why didn't they?
You were playing against an inordinately stupid team of monkeys is why. That's like asking how it's possible that I managed to walk around the map killing 15 people by punching them to death. It's not because dropsuits with no ammo are overpowered or invisible
The team was oblivious, horrible, and stupid. You just said it yourself, if you were at ground level and people couldn't kill you then there's something else going on. 1-2 AV nades would have done you in just the same. Dropships can no longer out run swarms and a militia one as you say could never have the EHP to survive the inevitable hits of several players swarms. Unless they were too lazy to move around a pole and kept aiming directly into walls rather than a practical position.
There is no way even a player of average skill would miss you with a forge gun for a whole match, nor that a team of swarms would fail to knock you out of a low level dropship. Therefore we conclude that this was a team of incredibly less than average skill. Seriously teetering on the edge of basic mental functioning. I wonder if they could also feed themselves.

If this were an isolated incident then I might tend to agree especially considering most bluedots performance. However, as I mentioned earlier, I have done this multiple times. And there are still the other pilots I have watched that were about a hundred times better. A dropship doesn't need to OUTRUN a swarm shot, if the pilot knows the map well enough he/she has plenty of time to dodge around a tower or drop to ground level and have them explode harmlessly off hills. Dodging a forge gun is like dodging sniper fire, if you run in a predictable line or pattern for too long then yeah, you'll get shot down. Clearly you think very strongly that this is impossible while I have seen it not to be and I don't see any point in continuing this topic. The only point here is that I believe, for what it is CAPABLE of in the right hands, the dropship is not overpriced. Though now that I think of it, if you can't fly it and think it is so weak then why on earth do you care about it's price? If anything you should be happy if you really believe they are all so easy to shoot down, more money for you. Really, with that logic this whole thread is rather pointless is it not? |

As do you with yours : / That's fine. I'm no crack shot but when I'm playing and a ds comes out it lasts on average as long as it takes till I have line of sight for >3 seconds. Usually I'm the first or only one to try killing it but it's easy cheesey and I know if I can do it, virtually anyone who wants to can. Fully skilled and fitted DS (costing between 7-900k) can take some hits from a militia fg and bug out but they're toast to anything better.
It is my strong opinion that it's nearly impossible to MISS with a fg given line of sight. And that it's easy to put yourself in a good vantage point if they person pilot is being more erratic. The ship is huge and the shot is near instant. Least it by nearly a reticule off from it's trajectory, and just let go of the trigger. It's harder to jump and miss the ground than fail a fg shot.
That being said I wish you the best of luck, and hope it keeps up as well as it has been. Lastly, for you and anyone who hasn't tried it I'd highly suggest making a militia FG fit and just swapping right to it anytime you see a DS called in. It's both fun and will demonstrate through experience just how far a little determination and a forge gun can go against any DS. |

That's a very valid point because the devs did say they intend there to be so many maps you'll virtually never play the same one twice lol.
Good luck memorizing the terrain safe-spots for thousands of planets... And if that's the premise by which DS are currently balanced then it's broken and will be more broken. However I think the problem goes far deeper than this alone. |

Lulz at flux readers stories of the DS...
If this was a couple months ago then ya maybe this would happen. But today? Ya your militia DS will get insta popped. Not only that but a month ago nobody was afraid of a DS. People weren't skilled into them enough so most vets (also the better players) never even bothered to shoot it down because it was doing no harm and also took 1-3 players off the enemy team.
Now there are better ships and more skilled pilots but still a DS that is to be feared is still yet to be seen. There are those that can take the damage but the day has.still.to come where they are anywhere near as dangerous as a tank or well fitted LAV. |

Um, you don't need to be skilled into forge guns at all to use the militias. They're dirt cheap, basically free. And they will tear up a shield ds with that 150% damage to shield (I heard it has). Either way once they get the shield down (probably one shot, maybe 2) then the next one spells a death sentence. Shield ships don't like burning |

There will be a variant with a pilot controlled turret. No telling what if any trade offs there will be. And there's been no mention of balance tweaks to vehicles in the next build. Cloaking was mentioned as possible in the next build but DS cloaking (as per the 3 year old dev blog) has not been addressed. They seemed to only directly mention scout drop suits and by omission probably not ships. |

LOL if you get a squad in any vehicle frago and destroy installations of course your going to get SP, but a tank could get that no frago no squad, DSes as supporting vehicles ment for SP rather then KDR needs more, heres my thread made yesterday specificly saying what and why: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=68183&find=unread |

railguns?..... *sighs* yea if they have 1600 HP total, missles as the meduim between blasters and railguns do better then railguns against tanks, wich is why S railgun turrets are getting buffed, i would assume in direct damage while S missles are possibly getting an update and more splash damage rather then direct damage. |

yes, 5 pasasangers total, turret [s] for the pilot (please note that it didn`t mention additinal turrets so it could be: you get 1 additinal turret then ussual for the pilot, 2 there is an S, S and SS turret modules for the Assualt DSes, 3 only the pilot gets to controll the turrets on the side, as for #3 it could be fixed on 1 location (in front of you) or you controll them like sheild transporters). its faster and weaker and is geniral the gunship class of the DS.
so salution to the pilot/DS SP issue? NO! NOT AT ALL you can`t through in mroe guns just for the pilot and say there, its fixed, you would have to be a fool to beleive that thuogh (not saying you are, you never said it was the salution) becuse its just 1 varient and it doesn`t do enough AND its still ignoring triage and transport, the biggest parts of DSes. |

Then why didn't they? See the problem here is that real dropship pilots want to support their team. I can survive a whole match by just doing fancy flying, but I want two of my corpmates to hop into these proto blasters that I skilled into and shoot some things on the ground. To do that, I have to slow down and give them a stable platform to fire from. When a forge gun begins firing on me, I have to build inertia to get out of there, and I don't always make it. If a railgun starts firing on me, I generally don't have time to even begin moving before the second shot lands. My Myron has like 4.6K shields these days, and I'm getting 2-shotted by rails.

Halador Osiris wrote:Flux Raeder wrote:Nguruthos IX wrote:Flux Raeder wrote:Okay, a couple points and a long story. Then why didn't they? TL;DR Real pilots like war points, not your ballerina sh*t.
YES! YES! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finally commen sense here! (hard to find in a forum that has a higher poplulation of trolls). DSes/ pilots need more SP for there stuff (https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=68183&find=unread). I got alot to say but I would feel like a broken record.
Also for the following comment of the 1 I quoted, yes you can even take out the best geared Madrouger 9that wa sbefore people got the Suryas and Sagerieses skills to the neccisary lvs) out even if he is a good tanker with 1 Ion scattered blaster turret, takes about 5 minutes though and he needs a useless team backing him up. well we don`t have proto anything when it comes to vehicles except the tueets, the modules go up to advance and the DSes and LAVs only have advance logi and standard normal vehicle types, tanks having advance Marouder and standard norrmal.... + they all have militia but that doesn`t really matter.
taking that into consideration where you saying the Logi DSes are proto and the best? (if so) they arn`t inless your going for transport rather then guns followed by transportation. in currebt status the Myron (Cladari standard normal DS) is the favored. |

I believe he meant that a dropship with two gunners could solo a proto tank, which is possible because i've done it before. I was one of gunners on a dropship and we took out a sagaris, I even got the kill shot on the tank and the driver when he jumped out. It's possible, it was just extremely hard even with proto accelerated missle turrets. |

Actually (so I've heard) the prototype one can't do a thing. It's got less CPU and PG because of the onboard CRU. I'm not speaking from experience, but I've heard you can't quite tank it as hard.
I just never dumped the SP into it after hearing that, because I don't see much value in an onboard CRU. They fill your ship up with clueless blueberries, and your turrets are more effective when they're filled by squad/corp members. Communication is key between a pilot and his gunners as they can inform you about incoming swarms, charging forges, enemy tanks, and you can tell them about shots you've lined up for them, who to focus on, or when to jump out to cap an objective. |

I`ll clear the info for you, comparing the myron to the advance logi DS.
Logi adacanceCaldari DS / Ehyx: has a built in CRU, 4 H power slots, 2 L power slots and the normal stuff.
Caldari standard normal DS / Myron: no CRU 4 H power slots and 2 L power slots
so when it comes to spawn in transportation it appears the logis better, but no, you can put a CRU inot the Myron and have more PG/CPU then the Eryhx does with a allready built in CRU but at the cost of 1 H power slot. so if you get really good though at piloting and spec alt nito it it will switch and the Eryhx will be ebtter at the cost of... well cost itself, both ISK and SP, but considering that theres a few newer pilots here I would assume the Myron is the way to go for you guys. |

The real problem is they can be difficult to learn, so there aren't many good pilots. And you NEED gunners who can shoot.
Anyone who is semi-competent at AV will be able to take care of a dropship. The only way I could see them living is on some very specific maps that have a lot of convenient places to hide behind, but if the dropship is hiding all match it might as well not be there in the first place.
Dropships are viewed as UP because of how early in the games development there in. Idealy dropships should be used in the big 24 v24 man teams as an easy entry and escape vessel. "WHERE CUT OFF AT B WE NEED AN EVAC NOW" and so god (the mcc commander) sends his angel (the dropship) to rescue them. On route back to base they find out another area is getting overwhelmed so they go and reinforce that place instead.
That's how dropships should be used. Not as the gunships that everyone expects them to behave like. Believe me when I say that good dropship pilots are going to be very valuable when the game modes get a little bit bigger. |

I've been pretty much exclusively using Forge Guns lately and there's no way in hell anybody can convince me that Dropship prices make a lick of sense. They're like flying LAVs, with some extra functions, nice if they allow team members to spawn in. But here's the problem in their price-versus-functionality... they're like flying LAVs.
Let that sink in for a moment before you respond with further rhetoric or war stories about how amazing Dropships currently are or could be. |

I agree in general with this but currently they are our only Gunship atm. But they should not be expected to be flying tanks which is what people seem to keep wanting. It looks like some more variants are on the way that could be filling the role people want.
But currently with good piloting and vigilance you can zoom in, support squads on the ground, zoom out again when needed. Pop out somewhere else to take out a tank or AV then disappear again. The larger battles to come would make this roll much more useful, but for now its basically experimenting with what you can do.
