Idk, I don't think he's too serious about wanting tanks nerfed and everything. He's just mad about the sagaris loss. I understand his frustration. They are expensive, and it's hard to come up with a good fit for them without losing many millions of isk ;( I got super annoyed when I first started tanking, but I've gotten better now so it's not too bad. I can afford to lose a 2mil+ tank now and then.
It does help to be in a corp with an experienced tanker who can help me out. That saved a lot of $. I still lost a large # of tanks, but it's better now. Everyone focuses on tanks and high Alpha is all shield tanks have against armor. Shield has bad boosters, a ten second hardener with a 30sec CD (armor is 60 sec active and a 10 sec CD), and less EHP. |

broken mechanic is still broken trying to justify the broken mechanic instead of trying to fix the other shortcomings of shields is not helping the game.
read my 4 part series on fixing tank play. 2 of which go specifically for buffin shield tanks and the other 2 are just general tank fixes which include fixing the currently ******** broken dmg mods that everyone loves to abuse for months and CCP still hasnt fixed which has turned tank play from something that required skill and strategy to simply drop rail tank with dmg mods since it wins at all ranges

I only have two problems with railguns:
1. They do the same amount of damage whether close or far away. Do not complain about turret rotation speed being a downfall in close quarters tank vs tank engagements. Plenty of turret upgrades to remedy their slowness.
2. One mountain climbing, redlining, camping, wiener roasting railgun tank isnt too bad. I can usually avoid them the whole match. It's when two or three of em get to sitting on mountains, pin you behind cover, and whittle away at your tank with splash that bothers me. |

lol you want falloff on railguns? Are you nuts? The railgun is equal to the frogegun/sniper rifle in terms of that. Dont even dare to touch that. I saw last time what happend to large missiles when they got a range limitation of 40 meters and then vanish in mid air. Railguns are high damage AV weapons and work as intended. |

I'm not saying negate close range damage, I'm saying add a limitation. What that would be I have no clue. Time to think creatively.
Maybe I'd be happy with a nerf on turret roation modules or even shortening of the gap between active and passive. Something just doesn't seem right. How often snipers successfully snipe from 10m away comes to mind, but you can't really put a sway on railguns without making zero sense.
Also you could further increase zoom fidelity and remove dumb fire altogether or... maybe just the crosshairs.
Another idea would be to add heat if the charges hit something close to simulate some sort of back fire. Idk the ideas seem limitless.
Note: I'm not against railguns. I just think they need a tweak. |

Anyways, fit and tactics matter a lot. If you're a blaster, CQC is your friend. Rushing a tank on an open field =/= optimal tactics. If a tank is in a position so that you cannot get to him without getting shot, you need to rely on infantry to help, change tactics, or just leave him alone. Leaving the enemy tank alone is fine if the only thing he's doing is waiting for you in his redline, because 99% of the time he's doing nothing to help his team win.
I spent a ton of time practicing my approach towards certain areas and situations, and it has helped a lot. I know it's expensive, but you need to figure out the breaking point of your tank, and the only way you can do that is by getting your tank blown up. There were times that I thought I was 100% dead, but found out that I could sometimes survive in those situations. Had I tried another tactic (like running, charging forward, etc, etc.) I found I would die all the time. I am now better able to judge the probability and likely outcome of different situations. I combined that knowledge with what I would have thought had I not done the other tests, and make the other tanker think or feel like he was at a disadvantage when I was actually in the worst position. If I can get the other tanker to make a mistake and deviate from his planned course of action, I can usually use that to my advantage.
I really enjoy tanking because it involves so many tactics. The thing that amazed me the most is how tankers play in almost the exact opposite way, even though they have the same SP and fit. It's crazy!
Also, playing World of Tanks is supposed to greatly improve your tanking ability. It teaches tactics that you can bring over to Dust. |

I can see why people are so protective of railguns, joined a manus peak skirmish the other day because its so open and lacking in cover I don't bother using my blaster tank so I pull out my rail madruger, the 2 tanks running around didn't know what hit them, the rail surya up on the hill went down in 4 shots would have been 3 if i wasn't terrible with rails, the madruger went down in 3.
Awesome fun but i can just imagine how they felt about it. |

A counter to tanks? HOW ABOUT THAT.
So take out the railgun tank with a squad of nanohives and AV grenades. Remote mines work well too in mass. Railgun tanks can't kill dudes on the ground at close range it's a sitting duck. You can deal with the small turrets. Not like when missle turrets were good.
God would it kill you people to use tactics.
If he has a proto tanks take out a character with prototype AV gernades. If it's not a proto type tanks use normal packed gernades. |

Discussion is pretty much over, the playing field will resemble something close to even when CCP fixes the way dmg modifiers from skills and modules are applied. |
