I get what you're saying, my apologies if I did not clearly respond to your post. While I agree with you, that certain players should not say certain things on these forums as it comes across badly for STB or any corp for that matter. But my point Cerebral, was that I can not tell a player not to post. I am not an officer of STB, I am not Quickgloves and a leader of my corp.
May I ask to whom you are referring to at STB that makes posts that are not showing us off in a good way?
What I can do though, is speak to those players and have an open discussion with them on forums posting and maybe I can help them. Again I want to encourage players to post. I want more and more players to post in the forums. But with that I must take the good and the bad. Not everything even I say, is always good. But I try and I know they are all trying as well.
I have no issue, I am simply pointing out that this is game, games are meant to be fun. So no matter the politics or what ever that New Eden will present in the coming months and years that I and STB play Dust, I will always see this as just a game to make me happy.
Ty, I know your just trying to be helpful in your own way. So +1 from me for being honest and civil about this.
I didn't think your post was unclear, quite the opposite, i actually felt that you didn't like the fact i replied on topic and gave my opinion. I know you can't tell people to post or not to post, that's impossible to moderate, even as an "officer" in a corp. People will alway rebel and not pay attention and do what they want, that's just the way things are. What i'd propose is making sure that the community knows who the important people are making sure they know not to view individual posters as the views of STB. Making people like Quickgloves much more high profile, making sure he speaks in an official capacity at all times for example means people will take him seriously all the time and look at him for official stances on issues etc rather than listening to your average member. As for people who i think don't give you guys much credibility on the forums, i'd have to say all of them except yourselves, Quickgloves maybe the boss, but even his posting is terrible and looks like a 12 year old wrote them. You all need to remember that Corps in New Eden are a business, not a social club, if you want to win contracts you need to act and behave to a certain way, a certain level of maturity and professionalism is expected, avin sum1 talk leik dis will get dem ignored innit and they won't win any contracts because people will see them as idiots and judge them based on that. Forum presence and presentation is a big part of your corp and has to be dealt with well. Even large corps like Goonwaffe expect a certain level of behavior and if that's not met or someone makes a massive idiot of themselves they have to do something to make sure they learn their lesson, such as a fine, giving someone a tank or whatever, In EVE we actually make people write something like an apology note, go to the nearest hardware store, stick a plunger on their head on the middle of the store, hold the note up and have a friend take a photo for us, it gets the message across very well and ensures people learn and don't continue to make a tit of themselves and of the corp. Encouraging people to post is always good, it's the foundation of a lot of corps, personally we always say "Never not post" or something like that to remind people to keep up to date and chat with people etc etc. I know it's a game, i know it's meant to be fun, there is a certain degree of seriousness needed and expected in EVE though, certainly when you want to secure large contracts, make powerful allies and play the political game as it all requires a level of commitment that is going to take more than just "playing the game for fun". If you want to be the best, you have to balance having fun and being serious. Somethings take months or even years in EVE, it took us Years to destroy BoB and took a lot of seriousness as well as fun.
I didn't think your post was unclear, quite the opposite, i actually felt that you didn't like the fact i replied on topic and gave my opinion Oh nothing could be further from the truth, I love a great discussion. I am very glad you both posted and we are having an intelligent conversation about these matters. I have +1 liked everyone of your post that both of you have done.
On Quickgloves, he is a good guy and becoming a good friend as time goes on. But I learned something a few weeks ago, that changed my opinion on his posts that are "creatively written with booze" I can't go into it, its not my place. But if you knew the real, real truth (ill talk to him about telling you all) then I think you would all back off of him and not harass him about it.
Look I was given PR for STB along with a few other members. I think we are doing a better job of that then we have been in the past, can we agree it is getting better and that I am a good choice for PR to do what you are both saying. Becoming more serious about our impression on these forums that in the long run represents us to the EVE corps that will become our future business partners. Im taking a lot from you are both saying here and taking notes on it, things I will bring up to STB and EV in this weeks meetings. Again I am grateful to you both for your responses and I will do my best to bring these to others.
But the most striking comment is your last one, "took a lot of seriousness as well as fun." good to see we are both wanting the same thing and it can be done in New Eden. |

Forum presence and presentation is a big part of your corp and has to be dealt with well. I had a big post right after Quickgloves earlier, but the Draft saved feature ate it and I gave up, but since you brought it up:
The EVE community is not the same kind of community as other MMOs or FPS communities. It formed around a radically different MMO with radically different requirements to be successful. I don't play EVE. I tried to play it but I didn't have the patience, however, my experience in trying to learn the game and the discussions from my friends who still do does give me some insight into the EVE community. The EVE community has an air of seriousness about it, even when we include the goofy hijinks of many parts of the Clusterfuck Coalition, because learning to play EVE for many was a serious endeavor., but while the learning curve may not be that steep any longer and certainly isn't in Dust, that is the community we are to become a part of.
The expectations for clans in other MMOs and FPS games just don't apply to the denizens of New Eden thanks to the community formed. For example in many MMO or FPS clans it's expected for a clan leader to be at the forefront of anything the clan does, be it raiding to PVP. That doesn't apply to the New Eden corps, alliances, and coalitions. As an example the CEO of Goonswarm Federation, The Mittani, was banned for a month earlier this year due to regrettable actions at this year's Fanfest. However, Goonswarm was unaffected because, at least at the time and this may be outdated info, the Mittani was just an administrator for the alliance and the coalition. He rarely logged on and when he did it was only fix his skill training, he didn't take part in his Alliance on the operational level and left it to the individual directors.
Part of that culture is the way you present yourself on the forums. In the text chat it's fine, but on the forums you have all the time in the world to compose a proper, legible post and you're expected to do so. When you talk in 1337 it lends an air of amateurishness to you and when corp officials like Quickgloves do it extends to your entire corporation as well. If you don't write well that's okay just sit down, plug your post into a word processor and fix as needed.
STB DEADPOOL5241 EV wrote:Also not everyone will play that style of game, in fact VERY few of the corps here are going to go that way. Do you really see COD, BF3 etc, players taking Dust on the PS3 that seriously? This is a console FPSMMO working with a PC MMO. The first of its kind, so while you see it through EVE eyes as a player of that game, most if not ALL of the console gamers won't give two ***** about that and take contracts and jobs because they can, not because of some dictatorship from another corp. Then they'll either stick to arenas and high-sec or get walked over by the ones that learn to adapt to their new home and the expectations of them
Quote:I now get what you both are getting at, your Eve players and you have had years of working in Eve and you know a lot more then I know. I give you that much for sure guys. But what we are about to do with CCP and Dust has never been tried before. So your expectations of the future is only one of many futures this game has. I don't play EVE, I've just got friends who do and am enamored by the player driven politics, so I have an understanding of what is expected from Dusters who are coming into New Eden. |

STB is a large fun group that try to win at any cost, if you hate on that then we can never b friends but if you read this an know i am bieng sincere i hope to meet with Corp leaders an discuss a bright futuer in Dust were STb isnt the target of annomsity an MAG rascisim
Dev's i understand if you lock this thread, but as one of the larger Dust corps an ur piggy banks i implore you to leave it here in generla discussion until somone breaks your rules. an hence its a general discussion forum i have not broken any yet an this thread is for helping STB move foprward in your baby an awsome world in NEw eden
Played a few rounds with you and Lurch and you were ok. The problem is a lot of other STB are looking for the easy win like three builds ago spamming the OHK glitch that was the swarm launcher then next build the OHK easy button was the RE then this build the easy button was four tanks.
The constant search for an easy win builds resentment towards you. And all it takes is ONE guy or gal that decides to betray you and your KDR means nothing if your assets in Dust/EvE reach zero in a few minutes right before an important Corporate War.

Deadpool,
This is turning into a really good thread and a very good discussion that's touching on things much deeper than just STB and i think it's safe to say we'll all take away things from this, it's nice to have a conversation without it turning into a flamefest.
I do think STB has a Hierarchy, in fact i know a lot more of STB and EV that 99% of the forum users here and possibly even more than some STB/EV members due to the resources we have available and i did touch on this with Quickgloves earlier to give him a little insight into what he's going to have to start and consider when i emailed him earlier.
I don't think the BF3, CoD and Halo players will play Dust the same way as we will at all, but at the same time i think they won't get the same forum coverage or even bother with the meta gaming and the forum posting so it's kinda a moot point there suggesting that their style of play will be a regular part of the Dust community. The players who are reading this and the players who are interested in this sort of thing are the exact people what will make a difference and will be a part of the community.
I know Quickgloves is a good guy, I've been chatting to him via Email and I've seen a lot of his posts on the forums, I'm not criticizing anything about him at all, i like him and he is exactly the sort of player that's going to make an impact here. I was just commenting on how his posts could come over and that a little extra effort here and there would make a huge impact on his and STB's reputation. Goons can be serious too sometimes and i am actually trying to help and not troll here. :D
I do think you being PR was a great call by STB and you've already done a great deal to improve the image, this thread alone has done you a massive amount of good as it's shown you're all willing to learn and take a little constructive criticism and that's something to be respected.
Wolf Ritter,
I totally agree with you about the community, it's very different to anywhere else, The vast majority of EVE forum posters are the scum of the earth but if you really do want to get noticed and stand out you'll see from the members of the community that already stand out and are held with a lot of respect that they tend to approach things very differently to in other MMO's, it may even be worth the STB guys spending some time on the EVE-O forums and in COAD too or even on Kugu.com getting to grips with what's expected, what's frowned upon and what makes people who are respected so successful in New Eden.
You're exactly right in what you said about Mittens being banned not effecting us at all either, We do a lot of our communication out of the game using things like Jabber/Mumble and our own forums and as such we don't even really need to log in to play the game which is ironic really. We log in to fight and make money but the game is much, much deeper than that and requires much more of a time commitment than you'd ever thing if you want to be a part of something special. |

Ok at work still and very little time this afternoon to do responses, so if I don't get back to you guys Im not ignoring you.
Yes, this has been a great conversation today, again to both of you I say TY TY
Between you and me, I wondered where some of the ideas for the changes we are doing were coming from. So if you and Quick are responsible then I thank you again for reaching out to us at STB. Thats just really cool of you IMO.
Agreed a majority of players will never step into the meta game, some just can't because they are Console players and don't have PC's or web access like you and the rest of us do. Its going to be rough for them and actually that will be my next thread, ways to help smaller corps and players get into meta game and the rest of Dust on New Eden. I may need your help in that for ideas, if you don't mind. I also agree we the beta forum posters are the ones that will influence the rest of New Eden better then a very large chunk of the players.
Quick is a great guy, he is the backbone of STB and we would follow that bastard into hell if it meant we got some kills along the way. He will have an impact on this community and threads like this are a prime example of just that. I think he is seeing, heck we all are seeing the difference between here and MAG/DCUO/COD/BF3 and we will have to change to get what we want out of New Eden or New Eden won't work with us. We are joining their game, but in a unique way.
Thanks, I appreciate that very much. But there is others who will be doing the same work if not more and better. But they will make themselves known in the next few weeks. Again thanks to suggestions like yours and others we are working on a few things in house to change from MAG to Dust and all that goes with that change.
In our ventrillo weekly meetings, It maybe time for me to finally speak. I have let Quick and Hivemind do all the talking, while I sit back and listen. I needed to know more before I spoke up to the group. But now, I know what I need to do and with some more discussions with good folks like you and then talking to my corp, I'm sure things will change for the better.
STB is #10 in the Corp list. Good, that gives me motivation to get to #1. That gives me something to work towards with STB.
Please add me to your PSN if you would like. Deadpool5241 and we can group up sometime and kill some players or just sit back and chat about everything. I look forward to speaking to you.

I like STB for generating whine from the loosers who cant find a way to fight you.
Try to cave in for a good image and you lost to them. The Top players will always get hate so learn to like it. |

Ok STB is working on presenting the true chain of command within STB.
We operate as a syndicate an model our leadership after it. |

STB doesn't seem to bother me much as my 4 man crew rolls all av, I maxed out my forge guns so I have my own tank wrecking crew I love tank spammers they give me the most sp/isk over anything. Bring them on I say I look at STB as a blessing my skillbooks would be low if not for them. :D |

Yea I have my AR deterent aswell maxed out burst hmg with sharpshooter, thankfully the 1mill made that possible. I think I destroyed you personally quite a few times made you dance on air, I always have backup I can't remember but your name looks familiar is hmg fails me I tend to switch to forge and smg to destroy at all ranges. Though lately snipers have become my biggest issue :( But dropships tend to sort them out. |
