In today's society, selfishness, pride and greed are hammered into our heads since we were little kids. Only when we become adults do we realise it's what benefits us the best. (Dare I say this is the key point of capitalist societies?)
The game is about scarcity, because of scarcity, people who hold the cards, call the shots. Look at the corporate world. The leaders of all the major resource corporations are cutthroat businessmen who look out for their business interests. They don't care that there's poverty in Africa, or homelessness in the streets, they want to profit for themselves, their company and their family.
Just like in any other game, or even reality for that matter, we always strive to prove ourselves, to be better than the next person. If that means kicking them down to bring yourself up or get what you want, so be it.
This game just lets you do that, unlike most who give everyone a fair go and show a giant no no for anything that's not remotely rainbows and happy times.
We play games for escapism, some of us just prefer more of the harsh reality that we can play in, before we do the same in real reality, than a completely different world that lulls our senses.
Anyway, this is getting off topic |

anyways, back on topic, i think vehicles will see a huge decrease in use once EWAR is implemented, things like a stasis web to keep the armor from running and things is going to be nice, imagine a dropship that can no longer move fast enough to dodge the swarm after it. |

I agree milk. And I don't hold it against them except when they ran it down my throat via a beta forum. Someone needs to explain in game to me wtf happened with BoB. I understand the defection, but I don't understand why CCP made the decisions they did. Anyway, let's keep this on topic. Having 1 HAV per 3 players seems sensible. Full tank crews. Depends on the player count though. At 32v32 I'd say 8. Leaves 8 infantry. |

LOL. Have you ever played EVE? Go ahead, go mine the materials to build a carrier and see how that takes ya. No. Not a part of failswarm, never will be.
120 man hour reducable with command links and improved mining skills of the fleet. This only account for mining and not manufacturing, fueling, tranportation, logistics, and aquisition.
On average a battleship is about 8 man hours to mine for.
Mind you my numbers are a bit off since they added items since I last done this and need to look about at all the possible bonuses a 'super hulk' can mine to redetermine and adjust man hours and give it a 15% spread downwards for unskilled peoples.
One major difference between new eden and dsut 514 so far (subject to change though) is that when you die in eve online you have the chance to undo a month's worth of skill points easily if you dont pay a small kings ransom for a new replacement body strong enough to replace you.
Dust 514 currently has no such issue. |

10 vehicles in a match = target practise. Most are bound to be militia, so you can rest happily knowing that your hatred tank drivers have a fairly high chance of losing their expensive vehicles, not to your fire, but because of a bug that means they don't always get delivered, yet are still taken from our inventory. |

Just to extend on point 2
2. If your clone isnt upto date you lose so many SP, ie clone is upgraded to 5mil SP but you have 7mil in SP, when you die you lose 2mil in SP and also the skills you learned and also implants if you had any
So really you could lose the ability to fly a certain ship or use mods and the implants if you had any tht you lose means that your queue time will be longer and also may lose some bonus implants to gunnery or missiles etc |

That is where I get confused. I've heard conflicting rumours about this mechanic, and I did expect it to be as you described. However others have said that you "only" lose 5% of the difference, or something like that. I am not about to test which theory is the right one :P
Of course, if you have a 100M SP char, and forget to renew your clone after being podded, you lose about 5 million SP. That is about 3 months worth of training. |

Basically, you pay ISK for your respawn and if you don't pay enough (or often enough) you lose stuff. Like I say, D2HC, you died, game over. GG, new character. Because your last one is dead. EvE ain't that harsh. Tbh if it was, I don't think many people would play (look at HC game modes on any game. Far fewer players) Also doing that in a pay to play game would be somewhere between crazy and insane. |

I do not believe that arbitrary limits on the number of XX you want to use has any place in a sandbox game.
If your team wants to bring in a separate tank for each player and have all tanks versus the other team, then go for it. Its your ISK, its your loss.
This is not an Arena game where the game modes are supposed to be balanced by arbitrary rule sets that limit gameplay to the restrictive vision of the developers. It is a virtual war where the participants are free to risk it all if they so choose.
In Eve online there are battles where 10v10 turns into 10v10+100 super carriers and there are no rules to prevent it. Why should there be any arbitrary limit to the number of vehicles you can deploy at once?
Lots of vehicles just means your team should all switch to AV fits and enjoy the target rich environment and drink the tears of the opposition as they watch millions of ISK go down the drain for no reason.
Furthermore, limits lead to things like "OMG, heavy machine guns are kinda OP cause my team got camped by a full team of heavies with HMGs yesterday....there should be a limit to the number of heavies you can bring!" which leads to "WTF?!?! why can the other team bring all scouts and run away from us all the time? There should be a limit!" which eventually leads to "CCP announces today that all DUST battles will have quotas for each drop suit type, just to make things fair for all. Now you can only deploy one of five pre-determined setups for your team, each of which has a paper-rock-scissors hard counter in another setup. Hope you pick the right one." The end state is "DUST servers offline, so long and thanks for all the fish."
If you want a game that has fair arena matches there are plenty of them out there.
This game is about a war...war has no rules except one: He who has the power makes the rules. |

You totally missed the point.
Go look up the difference between a sandbox game and everything else.
In game design, a sandbox means you refrain from making design decisions based on a desired outcome and instead focus on making design decisions based on the desired environment.
What you want is a pure FPS which DUST is not in any sense. Its an FPS core within the largest and most flexible sandbox game world ever created, and that is a good thing. |

By then it's too late, their force is multiplied. At the appearance of the first real vehicle, there should be at least 2 good, skilled AV players ready to take it down.
1 guy with a basic swarm vs even 1 Marauder holding 2 gunners isn't ever a realistic situation. But when you're outnumbered 3:2.. and technically that could be 9:2, you should lose most of the time.
I think the change in AV grenades will help regular infantry assist in killing vehicles without expecting them to actually put down their AR and do real AV. We need them to cap points, anyways.
Personally, as an AV guy, I love all the vehicles out there. I hate it when I've either killed them all and they don't want to risk another, or they do pure gun game. Most of my skill points are in AV and vehicles. If I wanted pure gun game I'd play CoD. |

Then there wouldn't be small battles with player limits just open an battlefield where millions could just be in the EXACT same battle. This however is NOT a sandbox game, it will consist of small battles WITH player limits and therefore there NEEDS be a balanced vehicle limit.

CCP (Crowd Control Productions) are famous for SANDBOX games. This game is a sandbox.
How could you possibly think otherwise?
I can take nothing you say from here on out seriously. You have lost all credibility.
STB-stlcarlos989 EV wrote:blah blah blah...NEEDS Balance.... blah blah blah
CCP have stated several times that there is no such thing as "balance" in a multiplayer PVP game. Not in the sense that you are referring to.
You can have prototype gear and I can have militia and that is not balanced, but what makes it "balanced" for the purposes of CCP is that you are I are equally capable of using the same gear or tactics.
So for tanks, if there is no limit to the number you can bring into a match, there is balance because both sides can be dumb and call in a tank for everyone.
The thing that makes it ok is that tanks have counters and I guarantee that the minute there are twelve tanks on the field there will be more swarmers and forge guns than you can count.
Stop asking for arbitrary rules that support your preferred gameplay style. It has no place in an open ended, player driven, emergent gameplay, sandbox MMOFPS game.
Where your ideas would have merit are when relegated to the Arena (E-Sports) portion of the game where mercs are gladiators and fight in bracketed matches.

These are typically as large of engagements as you can have, as one time when 6000 players back in 2004 decided to duke it out in one spot, it played hell with lag on the servers, and CCP forced a temporary 700 player limit in one system in another battle in 2007 back when two thousand players tried to do the same to avoid crashing the server.
There is no "exact" limit, especially since the servers are beefier now then before.
You basically won't see more then two thousand people in one spot, consider that your limit. |

I play FPS games to first person shoot people but I guess others do it to use vehicles but to each his own. With 24 people and the potential of 10 tanks in 1 game there needs to be a change. A good change would br.switching to something that can take down a tank.. its called heavy.dropsuits.. check it out. Adapt or die herp a derp. Carlos is right. If there are 10 vehicles in a 12 vs 12 that means there will 100 vehicles in a 120 vs 120. That is way to many.
Sorry, I should have been more articulate. If you hate vehicles and you find that you are going up against an extraordinary amount of vehicles (which you should have known wont happen for very much longer if you had bothered doing research on the subject what with the super fast sp gain and dirt cheap everything) you need to plan your strategy around the situation.
-Go as a sniper - you cant hurt the tanks but you can track them and relay the info to your squad and hey, the guys gotta get out to cap at some point right?
-Switch to a heavy - if you don't have one you should put points into it or better yet make another character you DO have 3 slots
-Call your own tank! because you know.. its a TANK!
these are just a few very basic ideas off the top of my head. So yeah. Adapt or die.
