Full proto matches are fun as hell.
I verbally harass anyone who tries to delude themselves that proto suits are the cause of their problems. Its a minute factor in a much larger scheme.
What you really want is SP and skill based matchmaking. Not meta locking.
Nobody ever complains about the dude who goes 0-11 in proto. Nobody.
Gee, I wonder why they're boring as hell.
I'm in favor of raising payouts because the people getting their d!cks kicked in can barely afford to run advanced. But I'm not in favor of everyone running proto all the time. It was supposed to be rare, something you'd only pull out in matches that mattered and officer even more so.
It's not the full proto matches that are fun, it's the equally matched matches that are fun.
You're right the proto ain't the problem but all those lvl 5 bonuses are less of an advantage on adv and less than they are on proto so locking it out helps alleviate the problem. The real problem is the bag of d!cks that is people like you.
No, what I want is for Concord to attack anyone that spawns in proto/officer in pubs. That's not going to happen and we'll never get a proper matchmaker because people like you keep the player base from growing; so something else has got to be done
Nobody ever complains about the militia/standard/advanced stompers either, nobody.

All I wanted to hear.
I'm all on board with SP and Skill based matchmaking. There is a reason why I play mainly PC nowadays and don't play pubs.
But every time I hear someone whine about proto suits, I see a person deluding themselves.
Its not the suit, its the person and character behind it.
You're getting up in arms about the wrong issue.
And don't even try to play the "You're trying to ruin the community and stomp the new players".
B*tch, I've written several fitting and tactics guides for new players. I've given countless threads and posts of feedback and advice. I've done more than just complain and whine endlessly, I've actually tried to identify and fix problems in whatever way I can.
So don't try and pull this stupid villain card on me. Anyone who has actually played with me, talked with me, or even seen my countless forum posts have known me to be a few things; and that's hard, fair, and helpful. You might not like the way I word things or the views I hold, but I've always been this way. My posts and ideals are by far the things least likely to kill this game and drive away the players.

Yeah, great good those have done for new players. You can act like you care and really trying to help but your actions in game speak for themselves. I've seen what you and yours do and have done for years which is mercilessly stomp those that can't compete and sometimes go against against those that can but most of the time one side or the other stops trying or leaves if they didn't do it at the start of the match. People like you are why I've seen long time players finally get tired of the bs, leave and never return; the reason I'll play a few matches with countless new players before they get fet up and turn the game of never to be seen again.
You might not be willing to admit it but you balls to the walls players are the reason Dust failed. Even with all that is wrong with Dust itself, you people are what drives players away.

People running off players ruins the game for me. CCP isn't to blame for these people doing so, it's a choice they have made. Sure there are things CCP can do to mitigate it (such as locking proto/officer out of pubs) but there's only so much they're willing to do and can do. But again you can't blame CCP for these people choosing to do what they do.

It's part of DUSTs comprehensive player retention strategy. Didn't you get the memo? Show us on the doll where the big mean squad touched you. They touched me right there Mr. Attorney General *SOBS* It's not fair! I'm totally in the same league as them, they're not better than me at all! Its the suits I tell you, THE SUITS. I can't compete with suits that have the same number of slots, bonuses when leveled, coupled with my core skills that apply no matter what suit I run! They're ruining the game! Lets just remove those suits from normal matches! They're obviously the sole factor in why these guys are getting stomped! I know you are speaking sarcastically but you are right. Yesterday I did a test where I created a secondary account and a new toon. Basically its not so much the proto suits but the skill point investmen as well as the higher cpu and pg. New players can't compete because they dont have level 5 in x skill or dont know how to skill or skilled into the wrong thing. There is no guiding hand for them or a safe place for them to train. Instant battle academy doesn't work. OK, all of this is true, but it's been said before. How do we get CCP to do something about it, or are they so completely enthralled by CPM as to think everything is fine?
Or do they simply not care? Either way, I want something done about it and nothing is happening. If CCP wanted to do something about it they would have by now. Which means either we just have to get used to it or leave.

I had one game where the top scores on one team were:

and the bottom 3 scores on the losing team were: 3/7 0/12 0/12
Now regardless of what ever factors caused this, there should be no way these players should be even remotely fighting each other, or even fighting people that could fight the other group. There is such a large skill / gear / whatever gap here that it's terrible players like this are in the same match.
Ideally in a "balanced" match players should never be going more than 10 KDR as anything beyond that indicates an -extreme- mismatch in skill levels. To be honest, it's not really skill or such, it's the ganking. I went 44/9 yesterday in a minmando because I was squadded up with my mates, and we traveled in a pack. If squadding and traveling in groups was encouraged, many players would feel less "stomped" Some players simply can't squad for one reason or another. It should not be necessary to squad to get a game. Where's the solo mode? |

Why? There are so few new players even trying the game so what's the point? You'd quite literally be wasting development resources and pathetic checks that do not actually help "new" players because we don't have any "new" players at all. Without a true new player audience, which the game will never have on the PS3 again, it's just a waste.

Yes, I agree that the droves of players just sitting on hills (snipers, presumably) and loafing around in the background behind the redline, just waiting out the match, are a problem. I used to snipe, but it was boring. Now I change into a sniper fit pretty much just to countersnipe, or if my team is redlined, and I can see no other way to be useful. It's always amazing to me, though to see how many are just loafing around. |

I didn't get stomped; I joined at the end of the match. And it wasn't Romulus Hex, it was Jera13 (or something like that). I caught him camping and taking out newberries from a distance so I killed him. |

The solo mode is right out the door.
If you actually want to play this game by yourself I would like to ask why?
Matchmaking in every game is horrible. You can never know, without inventing a time machine how a player will do in a specific match. The skill gap, which cannot be balanced in a 16v16 team environment without making que times absurdly long, is far too wide and it has nothing to do with suits. Skills, sure but not individual suits but even then actual skill will always win.
In a no squad, 16v16 match, you will still have the issues that we have now. There will still be better players then you ready to kick your **** in the dirt until you come back to the forums crying "Hurrr durr nerf da photon suits" because THEY'RE BETTER THAN YOU. I know, it's hard to imagine that someone is better than you and didn't win a gunfight because of their proto crutch.
The only difference from DUST to other FPS games is that bad players have the excuse "But they're running proto" which in the end is nothing but an excuse. Just like your "Some players simply can't squad for one reason or another."

If you are, as you say a new player then you are a very small minority in the game.
If you're constantly making it out of the redline and to objectives regardless of how much you get done when you get there then you're doing better than the majority of the playerbase.

I don't agree, but see where it gets you.
It's a video game. I doubt CCP could have expected so many would be scared of getting killed in a video game. It's just not logical.
The only ones who get scared are vets who quit matches when they see they are facing a challenge. Newberries simply say "**** it" and move on to a new game. |

Are there people dumb enough to think that 75% of the players in matches are new?
I have been playing a lot of matches recently where 75% of the players on my team are part of one of those generic corps that people are assigned to when they first start. |

Just like your "Some players simply can't squad for one reason or another." Ridiculous.
I'm not saying that there aren't players better than me or that I shouldn't have to deal with them. I'm saying that it's the death of the game that new players have to deal with them, and choose not to. |

I'm sure there are plenty like me that decide to leave rather than stick it out like me, to see if it eventually gets any better. Yes, I'm sick of being stomped and I'm always making choices about whether to stay in a match or leave when I get stomped, including playing FW where I EXPECT to be stomped. But for the moment, I can actually see a way forward to a time when maybe I won't. I'm pretty tenacious. The problem is, most noobs would have given up long ago, and it's the noobs that try Dust and leave because it's too ridiculously hard that is the real issue.
If you are, as you say a new player then you are a very small minority in the game. If you're constantly making it out of the redline and to objectives regardless of how much you get done when you get there then you're doing better than the majority of the playerbase. If I'm constantly making it out of the redline and to objectives? Where did I say that? No, I'm not. I'm a noob, and usually when my team is redlined, I find myself having to change to a cloaky scout or a sniper to do anything at all to benefit my team. Other than the fact that I'm resourceful enough to think laterally, I'd say I'm pretty typical of most noobs. And I'm sure most of them wouldn't stick it out for the long run. |

And he will quickly get better than the majority of the playerbase if he keeps the right attitude.
I had a few clan mates from BF3 join me here. Most quit because they wanted the easy life, and they went to go and q-sync into BF4 with their own server kicking anyone who gave a fight.
The best players shine in adversity with their tenacity. If you keep trying to play hard and improve, it WILL happen.
EDIT: I'd offer to squad with you, but I sadly do not have my PS3 at the moment

Take a guess as to which team was running Proto Gear.
Got stomped by EB and Turd Rock lol. I also spy a Romulus Hex on that team as well I think. EDIT: Proto isn't the real problem here. Teamwork, matchmaking, and overall co-ordination are to blame. I didn't get stomped; I joined at the end of the match. And it wasn't Romulus Hex, it was Jera13 (or something like that). I caught him camping and taking out newberries from a distance so I killed him.
You personally might have done well, but the team failed. I know you can't do much in that scenario, but this game would be far better off if people PTFO'd rather than worried about how well they personally did.
Please note again that I said that there wasn't much you could do in that scenario.
Still, The goal is to win. Not to look good losing.

Yeah I'm not sure there's a way to fix this problem without a lot of changes to npe. It's not the protogear that's the problem and usually in a pub nowadays the people that go 0/20 leave before that point making a lopsided match. I see these boards in fw a lot though, but at least those people stay for the fight.
I feel like a lot of these players are just out of loop of hidden changes on the forums and believe in the misconception that high scores can only be earned with better gear.
Dust is also a very different shooter with high hp, or movement making each individual fight feel really different. Like you can be shooting behind cover at a commando and suddenly a jumping mass driver minassault appears.
But yeah I feel sorry for the newberries that get killed for 20 minutes at a time. |
