Theoretically, yes. If promoted properly, even better. Stiff competition though against the coming of PS2 that is ahead of Dust in execution. Definitely doesn't hurt to try but CCP aren't willing to hedge their bets. They have plenty of PS3 paying for a low end experience now.

If you think that PS4 has a larger player base, you need to learn some basic math.
While I support some form of Dust/Legion on the PS4, Dust can still be viable on the PS3. In fact, it was just recently announced that FFXI is JUST NOW finally going to have an end date. On the PS2.
This game still has a long life span given the player base, and many other parts of the world using older gen consoles.
Don' let your wants cloud real analysis.
But how do you see those sales numbers in Jan 2017? Just announcing a PS4 port would boost current Dust numbers substantially. How can someone argue that? I don't think you get the same bump today by doubling down on Dust/Legion to PC. |

I just think the port to PS4 first is a better business decision. Eventually consoles retire. After the PS4 will be the PS5, and so on. Each time we will have to jump the hurdle of porting to the next gen. Why do that when you can port to PC, that has existed and will exist for the foreseeable future, and be done with it? Why port to a console when CCP has been developing on PC for over a decade? Why port to a console when venues like Steam promote your game to massive markets of gamers? Bringing Dust 514 to a console at this point would be one of the least intelligent business decisions CCP could make.

This community has shown that its intolerant to the idea of growing the playerbase on this platform. Why would they try the same problem on a new platform? You guys dont want more players, you want more KDR.
How do I say this so people can understand? Games that you have to pay 50$ to play have more population than our free to play.
Go check Kijiji. "Used PS3, used PS3 used PS3" This game can be played for free by the new owners of any of those used PS3. And yet its not. 5 year old titles you have to pay 40$ for still have more people.
One day the community will have its moment of reckoning. You cant have your cake and eat it too.
Either, you have boosted stats that you earned on the backs of new players, and the game doesn't last long, or you have reasonable stats that you can keep building over a long term lifespan. You dont get both. You dont get to farm new players for a 10 KDR, AND get to keep it for 10 years.
The community chose big stats, short lifespan instead of short stats, big lifespan. This is the consequence. You watch your port chances fade away. |

Put it on PC and be done with it? They would still have to constantly update the game to make sure it was viable on newly released operating systems, graphics cards and drivers. That is a never ending battle for PC. There is actually far less work in doing a port every ten years for console on the business end, and its far less costly on the consumer end as well given the costs of PC upgrades as typically far higher than simply buying a new console once a decade.
Flawed argument.
And again, hackers. Don't care to to deal with it. PC can keep that crap.
Usually banned for being too awesome.

PC is by far a much more optimum option for Dust. It's still in its growing phase I think. PC provides bigger opportunitis for growing games, for example, back when warframe was new it was only on PC but as it grew they ported it onto the ps4. Why can't dust do this as well? Start on PC THEN ps4. Sony is a bit of an obstacle here since they may not be able to see dust making profit due to its reputation in the past years and on PC,CCP can do whatever they want. Hackers will be on PC you say? Eve doesn't seem to have that problem. PC for Dust will be expensive for people? For the same price as a ps4 you can get a PC that can run crisis 3 fairly smoothly on high graphics setting.
Besides, CCP has been developing EVE on PC. I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing. At least better than any of us

Last week my friend came by my house, and I had been playing the game so it was still on my living room TV. He asked about it, I explained it a little, he seemed pretty interested, so since I dont care about my KDR and could afford the ISK of my friend playing a little, i let him play a match on my account.
He got fed up after 2 matches and said "dont you have any actual games, like COD or BF , something where you can actually play?"
its too much man. There is a huge learning curve just on the game mechanics. Shields vs Armor or Reps vs Armor or damage mods or this or that. Just building and using fits appropriately. Using a AR against a Caldari suit works alot differently than using a Rail rifle against it.
None of the other **** you do in other games works in this one. Even aiming is all relative. At one point my friend was trading fire with another guy behind cover, a proto guy. The ADV fitting i was letting him use can be successful, and my friend was actually close to killing the guy when 2 of his proto friends showed up and killed him.
It takes long enough as it is to learn the game. The community policy of wielding proto vs milita. it gives no time for people to learn how to use fittings, so they just get frustrated and quit.
How do you expect a PS4 port to work? Tons of people will join on opening day, make their way through the academy, and then proto squads will be waiting for them. After a few weeks it will be back to low population. Its not a sustainable system.
If you want a port tomorrow, people should focus on achieving growth on THIS platform today. Its not impossible, summer is coming up, alot of PS3s are hitting the secondary market, which means people without large game libraries will be buying them...... |

PC makes more sense and will allow more freedom for CCP to develop it in the long run. Developing for consoles can be a pain whereas with a PC pretty much anyone with half decent coding experience can release a game and distribute it You've got it backwards. The console is where Dust has a playerbase. Also, I see you are still prone to pulling stuff wayyyyyyyyy out of your arse. PC makes more sense. On a console DUST is limited, can't run it's intended engine, lag and graphic issues abound. PC is limitless. Some games aren't for PC. This game is dying on a console. Just because a game has a player base on a console, doesn't mean squat. The playerbase know this game is dying numb nuts. I would say start thinking more, but your corp says it all. yeah because someone's corp = the validity of someone. Gtfo kid.

again though. it comes down to the simple things like
Why would sony want DUST on the PS4 considering it was deemed a failure by most of the industry? The decision to put DUST on PS4 isn't just CCPs. they need licensing permission to use unreal Engine on the console and SOny have to allow them to publish it. we can all b**ch and whine about how awesome it might be to have DUST/Legion on the console but the truth is, is that in everyone elses but our eyes its a s**t game and only us few die hard fans stick with it.
the best move for CCP would be PC first where they can build the game with relative ease on a platform they're familiar with and which is simple to work with.
They have a very dedicated playerbase on EVE that would far exceed players on a console. Many of my EVE buddies either don't have a PS3/PS4 or wouldn't even dream of buying it becuase "PCmasterraceBS"
With being on PC CCP could put adverts in the EVE splash loader for DUST514/Legion that they get exclusive gear in both games if they sign up for free.
EVE players usually have multi monitor play so they can sit AFK mining on eve while playing DUST/Legion on another monitor. they don't need to mess about with another console.
Once they've built up a reasonable playerbase and many in the industry have forgotten the bad patch CCP had (DUST and World of darkness) they can appraoch Sony/MS with the PC version, show them what they've built and look at re-selling it to consoles in 2yrs time when they've had more chance get things running better between EVE and DUST/Legion.

The desperation some people have for a PC version of this game despite all logic is funny.
PC market is over saturated, it would have no success. PS has always been weak on the scifi shooter front, with Killzone front and center with mediocrity. There is a bigger market on PS4 for this game then there ever will be on PC.
And again, screw hackers. That alone is reason to never put this thing on PC. Hackers + F2P + slow reactionary GM force = dead game.

Probably because it makes them money and they don't even have to maintain the game servers, as those are run by CCP. Sony doesn't care what people in "the industry" think. Doing business in the gaming industry isn't some elementary school social situation where a few people make snarky comments and you get kicked out of the clubhouse as a result. Money is what matters, and Dust has been making it. You don't understand. Reputation DOES matter to Sony. Dust is rather infamous which will deter sony's confidence in it. Sony is a money making industry after all as you said and to put a game the supposedly makes "profits" at the very end of the PS3 life cycle isn't a very attractive idea business-wise.
And again EVE doesn't have problems with hackers I'm sure they have counter measures against them. It isn't fair to assume CCP can't due **** about a fat guy with a few .exe files.

Problem with announce supporting PC over PS4 as we saw quite clearly with FF 2014 was that you decimate your own current community, which is now currently making Dust 514 money.
The best solution is either going PS4 first or announcing dual PC/PS4 support.
In a perfect world we could have a period of PS3/PS4/PC cross play.
